The name "English" in relation to architecture is associated with the word "classical". The unity of sophistication, restraint, splendor, luxury is the reason for the identification of these two concepts. To acquire not a newfangled housing construction, which will surely lose its aesthetic relevance, but a solid housing, not subject to the trends of the times, is the desire of people striving for stability. An English-style house can be an excellent choice.

The English style, like no other, requires at least a slight digression into history for its correct and complete perception. This architectural epic is at least four centuries long (XV-XVIII centuries are the years of official recognition: formation takes much longer). The era is characterized by a change ruling dynasties, rapid processes of development of society, industry and, as a result, the active construction of secular buildings.

If we omit the division into early and late periods, the following main varieties of the English style in architecture stand out:

  • Tudor;
  • Georgian;
  • Victorian.

Despite the sequence of appearance of styles, one cannot talk about their continuity, find elements of improvement in later directions, look for common fundamental or unifying features. These are styles that have different architectural traditions.

If you still try to find generalizing definitions, without touching on the comparison of shapes, shades, the material used, then they will be as follows:

  • conservatism;
  • strength and solidity;
  • massiveness.

English architecture still has many admirers today. There are more and more people wishing to buy a European-style house, namely in the classic English genre, with an increase in the level of well-being.

Tudor era in the English style: brick house designs

Many modern country villages are built up with brick houses in the English style. It is the Tudor era that is characterized by the appearance of such houses. Brick was brought in the 15th century by Dutch emigrants and immediately began to be actively used not only as the main building material, but also as a way to decorate facades.

Characteristic features of the buildings of the Tudor era are:

  • numerous asymmetries in the architecture of buildings;
  • roofs with steep slopes;
  • high gables;
  • fachwerk;
  • chimney, visually representing a separate part of the building and having decorative trim from stone or a special type of brickwork;
  • main windows rectangular shape, with small squares of glazing, swinging open;
  • dormer windows, often round;
  • bright, distinguished by stone finishes large size or additional decorative brickwork, decoration of the central entrance.

The Tudor era lasted over a hundred years. The style has undergone many changes, rather, even additions. If you look at the offered construction companies photo of English-style houses belonging to the neo-Tudor direction, it can be noted that the main distinguishing elements and characteristic features are also present in modern houses: high roofs (tiling only); chimneys, which are the decoration of the facade of the building; obligatory fachwerk (often used imitation); asymmetry, giving the building originality and mystery.

Helpful advice! This style involves the use of natural materials in construction. If preference is still given plastic windows, it is better to install window blocks Brown or imitated natural wood. White products will bring a certain stereotype, will contribute to the departure from style.

Projects of houses in the English styleGeorgian era

Georgian style is both understated and majestic. Houses look presentable, solid. It is thanks to the above advantages that the Georgian type of construction is in demand. Modern architects have developed many different projects country houses this architectural trend.

The main features of this style are:

  • rectangular shape of the building;

  • strict symmetry of its various parts;
  • brick walls with discreet decor;
  • overlap at the entrance, supported by columns (portico);
  • paneled front door with decorative elements;
  • pitched roof, practically not overhanging the building.

The proposed photos of the facades of houses in the English style of the Georgian era clearly demonstrate the paired, symmetrical arrangement of windows and even chimneys. A significant part of the interior is the door. The decorated door leaf can be framed on top and on both sides (necessarily symmetrically) with blocks of small windows, which are sometimes opening structures, but more often are intended only for natural light corridor. Modern designers Quite often, windows are replaced with glass blocks, which adds additional decorative effect.

The facade is decorated with various small stucco elements, arches, pilasters, which are either made of white material or painted in White color.

White windows and the same decor give the building elegance and completeness.

The roof of Georgian buildings is also a symmetrical structure. To follow the rules of style modern houses covered with a material of gray shades, similar to the slate used in the eighteenth century.

The buildings of this direction of the English style are built on a high plinth, which is lined with stone or is distinguished by plastering and painting.

Architectural features of houses in the Victorian style

"Victorian style" sounds status, pretentious. It was formed against the backdrop of the industrial rise of Great Britain. In parallel with the rich houses of the bourgeois, who wanted to emphasize their position, there were buildings of representatives of the prosperous middle class. The sizes of households of the latter were somewhat smaller, but the main traditions were observed. Although it should also be noted that the Construction Materials often replaced by cheaper ones.

Looking through photos of English houses built in the Victorian style, even with today's typical set of building and finishing materials it is impossible to find two objects that are very similar. Eclecticism is the basis of this architectural direction, which does not put forward restrictions for creative fantasies.

The main features that characterize Victorian architecture are:

  • deep, but soft colors of the facade of the house;
  • the use of almost all possible finishing materials;
  • a variety of types of decoration on the facade of one building;
  • large elongated main and small dormers;
  • bay windows, turrets, balconies, verandas;
  • complex roof structure: broken, multi-stage.

Helpful advice! The architecture of the Victorian building is interesting, but quite complex. When ordering or designing such a model of a house, special attention must be paid to the heating system so that remote rooms do not remain cold.

Modern house designs in a classic style

Not every potential buyer of a private building is trying to understand the features of English architectural eras. He wants to buy or build a house in classical style. In this case, managers of construction companies provide a huge choice to his attention.

To express many architectural styles there are restrictions in the use of materials and construction technologies. For English classics this is completely uncharacteristic. The house can be laid out of natural stone, foam concrete, aerated concrete, cinder block, brick, etc. Ok can be wireframe with wooden paneling or made from timber. Only forms matter.

The design of a house in a classic style requires good taste and considerable investment. The English structure is characterized by the following generalized characteristics:

  • steep roof;
  • thick walls;

  • high ceilings;
  • solid foundation;
  • the need to design each element of the facade of the building.

My home is my fortress, reliable, beautiful and comfortable. On the proposed photos - houses in a classic style. The buildings mainly have two floors, but one-story, one and a half tier, three-story buildings are also offered. There are typical buildings, as well as many exclusive options. The facades of country houses impress with a variety of ideas. The price range of projects is quite wide - from 6 million rubles. for a house of 120 m² in a restrained Georgian style up to 60 million rubles. for a 520 m² Victorian mansion.

Helpful advice! When choosing a house in the English style, be sure to consider the size of the site as a whole. If the land for construction is less than 5 acres, a solid house in the classical style will be “crowded” here.

English architectural traditions in American style houses

Even a cursory examination of the designs of American-style houses, one can note their great similarity with English buildings. The United States as a state was formed on the site of the English colonies, so the mutual influence on the development of architecture was inevitable.

With some shift in time relative to Britain, architectural styles have consistently emerged in America:

  • colonial;

  • Tudor;
  • Victorian.

The colonial style, which experienced a revival in the 19th century, is characterized by the symmetry of the facade elements, a massive porch with columns, windows divided into small square glazed fragments, and decorative details in the form of carvings.

Tudor-style houses resemble buildings medieval England. These are half-timbered structures with massive mansards, high gable roof. For the design of modern facades of houses of this style, plaster of various shades, wooden elements, natural stone are used.

The designs of the facades of houses of the Victorian era in America are distinguished by the presence of towers of various shapes, balconies, bay windows. Many features of design elements given American style borrowed from the French: color shades, design of columns, basement.

Modern ways of facing the facades of houses in the English style

Along with architectural features, the decoration of the facade of the house is important for expressing style. Photos on the Internet show various options lining. It makes sense to dwell on the main ways of decorating the facades of buildings. This information can be especially useful for those who independently design their future structure.

The main materials used for decoration are:

  • natural stone;
  • brick;
  • plaster;
  • board, wooden facade panels;
  • siding.

Materials for the facade of the house can be used in various combinations: wood and brick, siding and plaster, facade wooden panels and natural stone, etc. It should be borne in mind that a significant part of the walls should be flat. Decorative types of masonry of certain elements of the building, even occupying a significant area, are designed to complement and decorate.

Quite often, facing of the facades of houses with stone is used. This a win-win giving the structure solidity. When using this versatile material for finishing structural elements, it should be remembered that it does not combine with red at all. brickwork and siding.

Are there differences in the design of facades one-story houses and facades two-storey houses? From the point of view of the use of materials and technique of execution, there is no difference. However, in order for the one-story building not to lose its discreet English grandeur, a number of recommendations must be followed:

  • decorative fragmentary wall cladding is best done with a medium-sized stone, since a large one will visually expand, but at the same time reduce the actual height of the house;
  • it is desirable that the windows have two hinged sashes, consisting of one row of vertically arranged glazed square sections;
  • siding is not recommended for finishing one-story houses, since it is not worth combining in a small area, and full cladding with this material looks rustic for the facade of an English-style house.

When decorating the facades of two-story houses, there are no restrictions. The main rule is to follow the laws of style.

Projects of one-story houses in the English style

One-story English-style houses are a fairly popular option, as they have a reasonable price. Modern architects are trying to give them all the features inherent in this architectural direction. Houses are built on large foundations. This makes the building as a whole tall and makes it possible to decorate the entrance in an interesting way, equipping the porch with columns, pilasters, high and wide steps and original railings. The inability to make a balcony is replaced by the design of a veranda along one of the walls.

Quite often, one-story English houses are erected in a frame way. This somewhat reduces the cost of construction and makes it as environmentally friendly as possible.

To maintain the overall solid appearance of the building, special attention is paid to the roof. Viewing windows in its slopes serve not only as a decoration, but also as a means of illuminating the attic area.

Photos of projects of one-story houses in the English style, proposed by various construction companies, demonstrate the possibility of expanding the useful area of \u200b\u200bthe house through the use of the basement (for technical needs) and the attic (to accommodate a living room) floors. The elegance of the exterior contributes to a positive perception of buildings of this type.

Helpful advice! Choosing a project storey building in the English style, be sure to ask about the composition roofing cake. Moisture insulation and heat saving are very important for houses of this type.

Projects of modern cottages in the English style

Speaking of true English cottage, then it is necessary to imagine a low one-story building covered with straw, or a material that imitates it. The house is almost buried in randomly planted flowers, bushes, climbing plants. The architecture is made in accordance with the style: symmetrical windows, chimneys, viewing windows, etc.

Quite far from the building described above is a modern cottage in the English style. The desire to a certain extent for convenience, practicality, expediency has led to significant changes.

Cottages are considered exclusively country houses. More often these are settlements where buildings are created according to standard designs. It is the flow of construction that makes this housing affordable, and therefore in demand. The main distinguishing features of modern English-style cottages are:

  • striving for compactness;
  • the presence of at least two floors;
  • maximum use of the area of the basement tier.

The desire to place all rooms under one roof requires a rational layout. small size land plots do not allow building houses of complex design. It is quite rare to find columns, pilasters in the architecture of the proposed cottage projects.

In the photo, the facade decoration of a private country house is made of brick or various kinds plasters. brick walls complemented by white cornices, moldings, arches. The plastered surfaces have pleasant color shades. The ground floor is lined with stone. Interesting are the options for cottages, where the decoration is made of panels of artificial stone, - the buildings look solid, they exude historical romance.

English style in landscape design:naturalism and imitation of nature

English landscape design requires considerable space. These should be landscapes that have a pristine natural basis and embellished by a human hand. However, few homeowners can have a large free area. The adjoining plot averages 4-7 acres.

Based on real conditions, a third adjoining territory should be set aside for a neatly trimmed English lawn. It is the only design element that looks "correct" in all respects. It acts as a background against which the rest of the plantings will seem to be elements of untouched wildlife.

The facades of brick houses are covered with ivy, the flower beds are randomly scattered around the site, the shrubs adjacent to the trees merge into a green oasis - these are the characteristic features of the design.

Helpful advice! When arranging personal plot unevenness in the form of hills, curved banks and slopes should not be removed. English landscape design does not accept straight lines.

Mixborders can be an excellent element in the design of the site. These are constantly flowering flower beds, where plants are selected according to the growing season and color scheme. This is not just a flower bed with colorful flowers. Mixborders do not have clear boundaries. Looking at them, one should get the impression that the flowers in this place have grown by themselves.

Photos of the facades of houses in a classical style, immersed in greenery, benches with openwork metal backs, swings, arbors covered with ivy, bridges reflect the true content of English landscape design. The paths are paved with gravel, sandstone, in the depths of the garden, natural stones form a composition with ancient sculptures. Addition to the natural landscape is the main rule that must be observed when designing the site.

If the local area has at least small size a pond, it must have aquatic plants. It is necessary that everything is in English landscape design subordinated to the admiration of nature.

English style house:housing should not be a burden

So that the house does not get tired over time, first of all you need to take care of it.

However, there are still some points that should be considered before acquiring a classic English building:

  1. Even a small English house is an impressive building. Be sure to calculate your capabilities to keep it clean.
  2. A large number of structures and decorative elements on the facade of the building also require maintenance, cosmetic repairs or even updates.
  3. Significant funds will need to be allocated for heating and lighting. Austerity will lead to discomfort.
  4. A lot of time and physical costs will require the arrangement of the backyard territory.
  5. You should know that a classic house is a rather expensive pleasure.

The value of the classics lies in the inviolability of its canons of beauty and perfection. That is why the English style of architecture does not become less admirers. The solidity and grandeur of the house, which makes it possible to retire behind reliable walls and temporarily renounce the outside world, completely devoting oneself to the family, is a feature of English buildings. When viewing pictures of country houses, the imagination involuntarily draws an unusual way of life, solemn and friendly receptions for guests, interesting traditions - an atmosphere of comfort, coziness, fullness of life.

Each of us, sooner or later, thinks about settling down and settling down somewhere outside the city, having our own plot and our own family nest. When planning a future place of residence, we involuntarily follow the famous proverb - "My home is my fortress." As a rule, families want to live in large and impregnable houses on the outside, but elegant and cozy inside. It is these qualities that meet the buildings in the English style.

Peculiarities

Traditional English architecture developed in the 17th century, when England occupied a dominant position among European countries. She personified, first of all, power and strength, but with the restraint and conservatism inherent in the British. It should also be noted that the British, three hundred years ago, tried to combine beauty and comfort in their home.

Country buildings in the spirit of old England often look like castles, feature which is a combination of conciseness and luxury.

The following features of buildings in the English style can be distinguished:

  • the predominance of natural materials;
  • windows are most often located at the bottom of the wall;
  • panoramic windows to create a room filled with light;
  • the roof, as a rule, is high, has a sharp shape and several slopes;
  • use of canopies as an architectural detail;
  • simplicity of forms, clear and restrained lines;
  • the presence of small terraces and adjacent lawns.

Dimensions

The classic two-story castle in the spirit of the Tudor era is characterized by brutality and impressiveness; such a house can be safely called an impregnable fortress. The construction of houses in the Gregorian style relies on simplicity and sophistication. Small one-story buildings in a rustic spirit with a porch or terrace are common. The Victorian mansion can be recognized from all the rest by its impressive size and abundance of decor. Such a country house looks luxurious and pompous.

Exterior Options

The exterior of the Tudor mansion has a rather gloomy look - thick and impregnable walls, lancet windows and majestic pediments and buttresses. There must be a chimney towering above the house. The windows are small but there are many. The roof has steep slopes, so the overall appearance is slightly asymmetrical.

Gregorian houses are symmetrical; here you can see many elongated windows decorated with arches. Brick is the main material for the construction of such houses. Mandatory detail is a pediment in the central part and pilasters on the sides.

Victorian country houses are richly decorated with carvings and consoles on the facade. The general view is slightly asymmetrical, this is due to a large number of turrets and outbuildings, as well as an acute-angled roof of a broken shape.

Particular attention should be paid to the general appearance of the house and the area adjacent to it. A small rustic house will perfectly complement a modest fence and a small garden in front of the house. A prerequisite is the observance of landscape traditions and the creation of the effect of nature untouched by man. Large country mansions are perfectly complemented by a flat paving slabs, built-in garage and neatly trimmed trees.

Facade

When building an English-style mansion, several types of materials are often used, such as clinker bricks and stone. Special zest country house they will give high gables and walls lined with uneven stone or hand-made bricks. Finished projects modern houses amaze with their diversity, architects skillfully combine natural materials, traditional canons and new innovations in construction. Thus, they create a functional and meaningful classic.

Gregorian buildings lack decoration, but the greenery and ivy that wraps around the brick facade of the house perfectly saves the situation. The façade acquires a neat appearance thanks to the low foundation, discreet shades, as well as the tiled roof. But the graceful chimney is usually made of stone, in this contrast lies an unsurpassed feature of English architecture. As for the color, the preference is given to a dark gray roof and light gray walls. Would be a great addition wooden terrace around the house, which will offer a wonderful view of the lawn or pond. The buildings made of red brick look spectacular, which remind us of the castles of fairy-tale heroes.

Roof

The intricate and prominent roof dominates the entire exterior of the English mansion. As a rule, in each house it is unique, and this is remarkable. Sharp slopes are not a whim at all English aristocracy. First of all, such a layout was created based on the harsh natural conditions of England, it is necessary to protect the facade of a private mansion from adverse humidity and dampness.

The roof occupies most of the building, but there are no attics, so it is quite common to find small attic-type rooms for old knick-knacks and tools.

Window

An important point in the design are large panoramic windows. In addition to panoramic windows, multi-leaf windows with weaves are often found. As a rule, traditional window openings, they are placed a little lower than usual. If the project allows, then the creation of a second light will be an excellent architectural technique.

Interior decoration

The English interior is rightfully considered one of the most complex and difficult to recreate. It's all this fault salient feature, like eclecticism, or, in another way, a mixture of styles. The traditional English interior is associated with the name of Queen Victoria. During this era, Asian motifs, romantic plots, and appeal to the details of the Baroque and Gothic periods were especially popular. Thanks to the thoughtful plans of the architects, all these contrasting elements perfectly merged into a solemn British interior.

This includes dark wood doors, flooring, skirting boards, cornices, and wall cladding. wood paneling which goes well with the wallpaper.

Modern technologies make it possible to use panels that imitate wood, which has a positive effect on the wallet.

Ceiling

The ceiling is usually painted white, with a cornice running along the edges. Often there are decorations of walls and ceilings with stucco. The ceiling painting is often very skillfully done, which is a distinctive technique for decorating an English interior. In the kitchen and in the bedroom, wooden beams imitating old ceilings will look appropriate. Sometimes instead wooden beams plastic counterparts are used.

Walls

In addition to wall cladding with panels, wallpaper is widespread in the interiors of English houses. The winning options will be wallpaper with a Scottish cage color, wallpaper with wide stripes. Preferred colors are dark red and dark green. Do not forget about the rustic style. For decorating the kitchen and living room, wallpaper in a small flower, with rosebuds or with simple ornaments - Indian motifs, birds, exotic flowers is perfect.

Quite often there is a combination of two favorite elements - wallpaper on top, and wooden panels below.

Floor

The floor is covered with light-colored tiles. Parquet made of dark wood species is typical for offices and living rooms. You can often find carpets and small rugs, this detail creates comfort and warmth. hearth. The British pay much more attention to the cleanliness of the floor, but do not forget that flooring should fit into the interior and not spoil the overall look of the room and the whole house.

Furniture

Traditional English interior is hard to imagine without a sofa. English quilted sofas are produced using a special Chesterfield technology - this name is generally accepted for this type of sofas and is known all over the world. Also, the British interior is impossible to imagine without a large fireplace in the living room. The interior of the kitchen is subordinate household appliances which is located there. But main feature kitchen in the English style is that the technique must be hidden from the gaze of the incoming if possible. This can be achieved by masking the refrigerator or stove by cladding, and making the dishwasher and sink built-in. Vintage household appliances are especially popular in the modern market.

Lighting

From decorative lighting in the British interior there are candles in candlesticks and candelabra, crystal candlesticks, table lamps and sconces. Mention should be made of large panoramic windows, which let in much more light than ordinary windows, so the rooms look much lighter and more spacious.

In terms of architecture, the UK is perhaps the most diverse, as it has always been influenced by the traditions of not only neighboring Ireland, Wales, Scotland, but also by many emigrants from all over Europe. In this country, you can see a variety of buildings, built both in medieval traditions and in the classical style. For more than three hundred years (from 1180 to 1548), Gothic architecture flourished in England, first borrowed from the French, and then overgrown with its own details.

How it all looks today, and what projects of houses in the English style are offered to the attention of developers, we will tell in this article.

Tudor style - one of the directions of the English style

The architecture of any country is closely connected with its history, which is very clearly seen in the example of England. All military and political initiatives came from its regions, but the country could not but reckon with the cultures of the peoples living nearby.

In England, and now you can see the medieval mansions of special beauty

It took centuries for England to unite them and unite them into one kingdom, and during this time it acquired a mass of traditions that joined the existing ones. In general, English architecture developed something like this.

How it was

Even before N.E. Celtic (Franco-Germanic) tribes settled in the British Isles, but their purely country style with decor in the theme of fauna, did not have any significant impact on local architecture.

Historians and archaeologists believe that it's all about the materials: the Celts built mainly from wood and straw, and the British - from stone. Although in some places picturesque houses in a similar style can be seen now.

Mite of ancient tribes

Later, the southern outskirts of Britain fell under the heel of Ancient Rome - the Romans failed to capture the entire island due to the fierce resistance of local tribes.

Interesting! This colonization turned out to be beneficial for the island, since the Romans not only used natural stone in construction, but also knew how to make bricks and set up its production in England. After that, brick became a priority material, and the masters actively mastered the techniques of artistic masonry.

  • IN early middle ages the island was chosen by the Anglo-Saxon and Jutish tribes who sailed from Germany, mixed with the Celts. It was this mixture that formed the nationality, which today is commonly called English.
  • Primitive wooden huts gradually turned into spacious houses with a hall - an elongated structure under gable roof(read in the article), where all working family members gathered in the mornings and evenings. A prototype of a modern living room.

  • European emigrants brought Christianity with them. They destroyed ancient Roman and Celtic houses, and from these building materials they built churches, some of which have survived.
  • For more than two centuries (IX-XI centuries), the British lands were ruled by Denmark, which also contributed to English architecture. Complex configurations on the facades then became a tradition and were developed during the Gothic period.

An abundance of architectural details - Gothic traditions
  • In the 11th century, England was again invaded - now it was the Normans who created a feudal state structure. It was organized by William the Conqueror, who openly supported the construction of churches and castles in the Romanesque style.
  • Military detachments built towers of wood for themselves, later it was everywhere replaced by stone. Castles grow in size, improve and become a characteristic feature of medieval Britain.

English manor

closer to early XIII century, the concept of a manor house arose. It was built either from wood or using fachwerk technology, which was already widespread throughout Europe at that time (offered on our resource).

Fachwerks are a sign of purely European architecture
  • On the ground floor of such a house, barns and a hall were arranged, living rooms were located upstairs, where a spacious staircase led. By and large, it is on this principle that modern houses and cottages are designed (learn from the article).

Hall downstairs and bedrooms upstairs
  • Norman traditions very quickly came into use, as the conquerors forcibly drove the local population to construction sites to build cathedrals.
  • The realities of the local climate forced us to adapt, to provide tiers of numerous windows on the upper floors. French windows, characteristic of Franco-Norman architecture, did not take root here.

Enfilade of windows on the upper floor and beamed ceiling
  • The walls are thick, the volumes of the rooms are rectangular. The ceilings were made flat with large geometric details, but sometimes like tented roofs.
  • From those times, the fashion for beamed and coffered ceilings came to us, which has survived to this day. It’s just that then they were built in this style, but today they are simply designed visually.

Gothic

The Gothic style reigned in England for quite a long time, until the 16th century (the era of the reign of the Tudor dynasty), because endless internecine wars and the poor development of European fleets contributed to a reduction in construction. And the one that was, more adhered to French architecture.

Gothic style houses in England can still be seen today.
  • But the English version was dominated by elongated and geometric forms filled with decor. It could be an unusual shape of windows (including due to curtains) or internal partitions, which immediately caught the eye. It was with changes in decor that the whole evolution of English Gothic was connected.

English style in a modern living room
  • The main emphasis in the English architecture of the XVI-XVII centuries was placed on the ceilings. Up to the point that the masters compete in the invention of ever new ornaments and complicated patterns. Because of this, the interiors very often turned out to be overly congested.
  • When trading and industrial companies gained power, built workshop buildings and houses, attached chapels to cathedrals, the appearance of the premises began to change, halls appeared with large windows and vaulted ceilings, decorated with geometric, star-shaped or fan-shaped patterns.

Complicated ceilings came to us from English architecture
  • Secular construction, which replaced the church, coincided with the Renaissance, which England entered with some delay. Italy was at the forefront in this regard. Therefore, British nobles often invited Italian masters to build, but not architects, but decorators, or, as they are commonly called today, designers.

The structure of English buildings, along with high roofs and bay windows (available on our resource), often with several chimneys, did not correlate with the Italian concept of architecture in general. Therefore, in England, it turned out to be so conservative and slowed down even more after the expulsion of Italians who professed Catholicism from the island.

Fachwerks

Germany and Holland had a much greater influence on the order (compositional) architecture. In the buildings they did not leave English traditions, but they made their contribution to the design of buildings. Maximum attention was paid to half-timbered timber, which had previously been used only occasionally, but now began to be used everywhere.

Fachwerk style is actively used now
  • Initially, the principle of mass half-timbered construction was prompted by the need to conserve forest resources, because ordinary people did not have the opportunity to build from stone, but mercilessly cut down trees.

Picturesque country house
  • In the half-timbered house, only the spatial frame was wooden, and the gaps between the uprights and beams were filled with brick, stone, wattle, smeared with clay. Such buildings, which prevailed in the south and northwest of the island, were very picturesque, although they learned to cover them with plaster and whitewash.

Note: today this technology has been transformed into a frame technology, when the frame spans are filled with finished panels (shields), or sheathed right on the spot with rigid sheets filled with insulation.

  • Most often, typical designs of English-style houses are framed, as this is the most profitable. As for the half-timbered house, today it is not the design of the house as such, but simply beautiful style design, which is used not only on facades, but also in interiors.
