Xiaomi Yeelight Smart Light Strip review. Review of Xiaomi Yeelight Smart Light Strip - decorative lighting controlled via smartphone

It's easier to specify where the tape is not used - only where you do not want the presence of a backlight. Because the universal product can be marked in almost any area of the room: by the bed, near the desktop, in the kitchen, along the steps, on interior items. And also bend as much as possible, if necessary. The atmosphere of the room will sparkle with new colors in the truest sense of the word thanks to a special piece of decor. You can set it up in your own way, like all Xiaomi smart gadgets.

Technical elements

Made of plastic innovative material based on soft safe polyurethane, does not contain mercury, has antioxidant properties.

Adhesive layer securely holds LED backlight at the location, leaves no traces, allows you to change the location. Convenient, easy-to-use control panel. The device is equipped with RGB LEDs that can give any color of glow.

Color selection

Millions of colors - in the case of Xiaomi Mijia Yeelight LED, this is not a figurative-abstract expression, but a concrete-real one. Available in 16 million colors and shades. It is easy to change the color with the remote control with one long press. But you will get more options for customizing functions by connecting the device to your phone using Wi-Fi.

Smartphone control

To regulate the behavior of a "smart" novelty, you need to install special application YeelightAPP. Then a number of attractive and useful functions will be available to you: 1. Alarm clock. The new invention is able to turn on and off at a certain time on the days of the week. 2. A variety of "games" with color: changing the shade, brightness of lighting, adjusting the color temperature - from cold white to warm orange. 3. Settings that provide for independent switching of colors. 4. One-touch selection of ready-made preset glow options. 5. Using a video camera, you can create a shade identical to the color of the interior item on which the tape is located. A handy idea in order to quickly get the right color.

There is another unique customization option. Thanks to Ambilight backlight technology, the color can change to the beat of your favorite music.

✔ PACKAGING AND APPEARANCE

In a pimply bag there was an ordinary cardboard box.

Inside, the already familiar white cardboard box, in a minimalist design.

On the back, as on all Xiaomi products, specifications and information are in Chinese.

Under the lid is an instruction manual, which is generally useless, as it is entirely in Chinese.

Oink oink.

The controller and power supply are located at the bottom of the box in their compartments.

There is nothing remarkable in the tape itself, an ordinary LED tape, of which there are a lot in the vastness of Ali.

On the tape there are 60 RGB LEDs of 0.2 W each, filled with transparent silicone. Thanks to this silicone protection, the LED strip can be used, for example, in the bathroom. The manufacturer claims IP-65.

On the back side of Xiaomi's flexible LED strip, 3M adhesive tape was placed for attaching the strip to almost any surface.

The end of the two-meter tape is sealed in a plastic cap.

From the control unit to the tape goes 1.5 meters of wire.

Thanks to the presence of a button on the control unit, you can turn the tape on or off without a smartphone, as well as change the color of the glow of the LED tape.

Power supply, with a Chinese plug characteristic of Xiaomi. The output is 12V and 1A.

The total length of the LED strip is 2 meters, the cable from the power supply to the remote control is 1.5 meters, from the remote control to the LED strip is 1.5 meters.
The thickness is 3.4 mm.

In the off state, the power consumption is 0.6 W.

With different colors - different power consumption.
Blue - 5.8W.

Red - 6.2W.

The maximum came out on the green color - 8.1W.

At a distance of about 50 centimeters in green light - 110 lux.

If you bring it closer, it gave out a maximum of 3900 lux, but this is right above the sensor.

50 centimeters above the sensor in violet light - 80 lux.

And 15 centimeters from the sensor in bright white light - 518 lux.

You can create different shapes.

More than 16 million colors are declared, but I will highlight the main ones in GIF

✔ Software

Initially, the MiHome application downloads the plug-in for managing the tape in Chinese, but you can change the apk and the application will be in Russian.

The main screen for working with an LED lamp is to control the brightness and color temperature of white.

In the color selection mode, you can select one of 16 million colors and set its brightness.

You can choose from preset color solutions or create to your liking.

In addition, you can set the color and brightness using the smartphone's camera or even thanks to the smartphone's microphone, the lamp will pulse or change colors depending on the surrounding sounds.

In the off state, the LED strips are celestial bodies on the smartphone screen.

In addition, you can set various timers for turning on or off the LED strip.

Or set a countdown timer when the light is off.

The firmware, as in most Xiaomi products, is updated quite often and in one click.

In addition, there are no more special settings, if you do not take into account various scenarios for automating smart home systems.

✔ TOTAL

Like other products from Xiaomi, a two-meter tape with a pre-applied adhesive base can fit well into a smart home system. Thanks to the presence of WIFI, lighting can be controlled using a smartphone, and it is not at all necessary to be in the same house with the LED strip, only the presence of the Internet on the smartphone and at home is important. You can change not only the color of the glow, but also the brightness by simply swiping your finger across the screen. For quick on or off, there is a physical button with which you can turn the LED strip on or off, and set the desired glow color. The disadvantages include the power discrepancy (I could not squeeze out more than 8 W, but 12 W is declared) the overpriced price, the LED strip and the controller can be purchased separately, but this is when viewed from the "ecosystem" of building a smart home from Xiaomi.

RGB ribbons have long been used to decorate rooms and create a special atmosphere. There is nothing innovative or unusual about standard RGB strips. It is difficult to surprise the modern consumer today with something. Today the site has prepared a review of the smart led strip Xiaomi Yeelight Smart Light Strip, which surprised us and pleased us with its functionality. Unlike standard ribbons, which are controlled via a controller or remote control, the Xiaomi Yeelight ribbon is controlled via mobile applications. Two mobile applications MiHome and Yeelight are available, through which you can control the tape and other smart lighting from Xiaomi Yeelight. The only drawback is that Xiaomi Yeelight products do not support devices running Windows 10.

You can control the color through a small controller by pressing a button. The functionality of the feed is maximized in mobile applications. Directly from your smartphone, you can control various functions of the tape: brightness control, selection pre-made themes lighting (romance, party, watching a movie), creating a composition of your favorite colors with adjustable switching smoothness, setting an on and off timer.

The build quality is to be commended. Wires, tape and controller are made of quality materials. The LEDs are hidden under a transparent laminated film that protects them from moisture, dampness, damage, etc. The tape can be attached to any surface as the back is covered with double sided tape. For installation, a protective durable film is removed from the back and the tape is glued to any place.

Equipment

The tape is packaged in a stylish snow-white package under the Yeelight brand. You should not worry about transportation, as the tape is securely fixed in the package using a round foam insert. For the quality of packaging, I want to rate "excellent". The package consists of a controller (wire length 1.5 meters), a socket with a power supply (wire length 1.5 meters) and the tape itself (2 meters). All materials are made in a single white color. The power supply has an American plug. Some Chinese suppliers, for a small fee, additionally glue an adapter with a European socket to the package. Such an adapter can be purchased at any electronics store for mere pennies.

Functionality

The small controller has only one large button. With this button, you can control the main functions of the tape: a short press activates the on and off mode, and a long press switches colors. If you need to reset the Xiaomi Yeelight Smart Light Strip, then the tape must be turned off from the network, and then reinserted into the outlet while holding the button on the controller. When the settings are reset, the ribbon will begin to change colors, and the yellow button on the controller will flash.

It is not suitable as the main lighting. Still, 2 meters is not enough. Ideal for night lighting. The mobile app features an impressive color palette (16 million colors in total).

The product is worth its money. At the start of sales, the tape cost $50, but now it can be purchased for $30-40 (depending on the store). We purchased the tape at a discount for $29 along with a European socket. We will test other Xiaomi Yeelight products soon, including a huge RGB living room lamp.

Xiaomi Yeelight LED smart bulb review Smart bulb E27 Smart Night Lamp Review: Xiaomi Yeelight Bedside Lamp

Xiaomi Yeelight colored LED strip is able to decorate any room, adding a festive or romantic atmosphere. But it is interesting not only for this, because RGB tapes have been on sale for a long time and there is nothing unusual here. And it is interesting primarily for its smart functions and integration into the smart home system - you can control the tape via WiFi directly from your smartphone, choose one of the many lighting scenarios, adjust the brightness, operating mode, set a timer, etc.

First of all, let's get acquainted with the main characteristics of the tape:

Video version of the review

They did not save on the packaging of the tape - a stylish snow-white box with the image of products under the YEELIGHT brand.

On reverse side the main characteristics are given in Chinese.

Opening it, you can find instructions and a tape neatly placed in a special niche.

The instructions are all in Chinese, but we are more interested in qr codes, which can be used to tell the application for managing the tape. Applications are Russified, it will not be difficult to figure it out.

Recesses are provided in the upper part so that you can remove the part with the tape and get to the rest of the components.

Here you can find the controller and power supply. Everything was neatly placed in separate compartments.

The power supply is quite bulky, and even with an American plug, so an adapter for European sockets is additionally needed. The maximum power supply can deliver 1A at 12V.

The power supply is connected to the connector that comes out of the controller. If you want to extend the tape, you will need a more powerful power supply.

The controller has a large physical button. With it, you can quickly enable / disable the ribbon and change the color. Short press - turns on / off the tape, long press changes colors (if you like it, just release the button and it remains). Also, using this button, you can make a complete reset of the device, which can be useful when reconnecting to another network or having problems. To do this, we pull out the power from the network, hold down the button for a few seconds and, without releasing, connect it to the network. We continue to hold the button until the ribbon begins to shimmer in different colors.

There is a small LED on the controller that shows the connection status. It does not shine brightly, but if it is not needed, then in the application you can turn it off altogether.

On the reverse side of the controller there are “feet”, but which are pasted with 3M double-sided tape to fix it on a flat surface. There is also information on nutrition, serial number and poppy address.

On inside tape, along the entire length you can find an adhesive strip (3M double-sided tape) with which it can be easily attached to a smooth surface. On the reverse side are LEDs that are covered with silicone, which makes it possible to use the tape in rooms with high humidity, such as a bathroom.

The LEDs are divided into 4 in a group, and if the tape needs to be shortened, then you can simply cut it along the marked lines. If you need to lengthen it, then it's more difficult. You will need a more powerful power supply, and if the length is more than 5 meters, then also an RGB amplifier. But usually such tapes are taken for decorative purposes where 2 meters is enough.

But for decorative purposes, the tape is ideal. The colors are bright, saturated and look great. Another positive point is the lack of flicker, for which your eyes will thank you.

The number of possible shades of colors is 16 million, even if you randomly poke your finger into the palette, it is unlikely that you will be able to choose the same color twice. At least a little, but the shade will be different, it all depends on the brightness of a particular LED. Moreover, at different brightness settings, the same colors look different and the effect is also different.

By and large, the Xiaomi tape is not particularly different in terms of light performance from other LED strips on the SMD 5050. The main trump card is software. And now I mean the YEELIGHT application. When installing and first turning on, I was immediately offered to update the software. Stunned, I have not changed the firmware in the LED strips yet. Soon we will reflash kettles and microwaves. Although, probably already ... Okay, let's continue - the firmware was installed automatically, after which you can use it.

Let's go through the main features. There are 10 preset patterns on the "recommended" screen, for example: romance, night light, candle or fireplace light, and even a party. Each template executes a specific program. There are dynamic scenes, such as sunrise - smoothly raises the brightness, simulating a sunrise. By analogy, there is a sunset. I liked the Candle Flicker scene, which simulates the burning of a candle, very cozy. And there are static scenes, like a night light.

The "White" section allows you to simply turn on bright lighting. You can choose the shade you like by adding warmth with yellow shades or chill with blue, or you can choose the most neutral. White color, as far as possible in RGB tape. Similarly, in the "Color" section, just choose any shade you like. On any of the screens, you can adjust the brightness on a scale from 1 to 100. The “Stream” section is responsible for the transfusion of colors in a given range, you can select shades and speed.

There are no less interesting things in the additional screens, for example, you can quickly select one of the primary colors or enter the “eyedropper” mode, when you can determine any color in the selected area. real world(via camera) and enable it on the ribbon. Of course, there is also a timer here - they set the child in the nursery for 30 minutes, so that it would not be scary to fall asleep and do not worry that the light will be on all night.

In addition to the timer, a full-fledged schedule is also available, you can program the on, off time and the corresponding mode. In the morning you wake up to the "sunrise" and fall asleep to the "sunset". Good idea! There are many useful things in the settings, for example, you can make it so that when the power goes out, the light will automatically turn on after it appears. You can turn off the LED on the controller so that it does not interfere at night, etc.

What can be interesting in the LED strip? Nothing. But if she can connect to home Wi-Fi, her LEDs light up in 16 million colors and the whole thing is controlled from a smartphone via the Internet? Quite another matter! In general, in today's Xiaomi Yeelight Lightstrip Review I will tell you how you can bring comfort to your home in a smart way.

What it is?

Never bothered with this kind of thing like home lighting. There is a chandelier hanging from the ceiling and a lamp on the table. All these devices shine and thanks for that. However, after the Xiaomi Yeelight Lightstrip test, I got itchy. I would like to heap up houses of all sorts of such things on every corner. Smart stuff!

I bought Yeelight Lightstrip at the Gearbest online store for $32. The current price for today is $28.99. It’s a little expensive for an LED strip, but if it can shine with 16 million lights, is configured using a smartphone, and is generally controlled via the Internet, then yes. You can understand the price tag.

Specifications of Xiaomi Yeelight Lightstrip (Model YLDD02YL):

  • 60 RGB LEDs (Support 16 million colors)
  • brightness range: 1 - 100%
  • WiFi support (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz)
  • app for Android 4.4 and up / iOS 7.0 and up
  • power supply: 12 V, 1 A
  • power consumption: 12 W
  • connection to a 100-240 V socket (flat plug)
  • service life 25,000 hours
  • tape length - 2 meters
  • cable length only - 3 meters
  • weight 400 g

Installation and setup

Yeelight Lightstrip attaches to any flat surface. We detach the protective film and carefully glue the tape in the right place, having previously degreased the surface.

Pasted, connected to the outlet, press one single button on the built-in remote control and turn on the gadget. The remote, by the way, can be attached anywhere - there is an adhesive base on the back.

After turning it on, download the Yeelight application from the Google or Apple store. I was pleasantly surprised that it is completely in Russian. Moreover, the translation is very high quality. By the way, the tape can also be controlled through a proprietary utility from Xiaomi - Mi Home, but everything will be either in English or in Chinese.

Ideally, the connection goes like this: you launched the application, it immediately saw the desired gadget nearby and offered you to connect it. I was not lucky, I had to do everything manually. It's not difficult, just the gadget for some reason refused to do everything automatically.

Possibilities

Through a proprietary application, you can literally do everything: from remotely turning on the backlight, to setting up your own profiles, combining one tape with another or with Yeelight bulbs.

If there are suddenly several branded light bulbs at home, then you can group their profiles with each other and create combinations of collaboration. In general, you can set up this whole thing for an entire evening, and maybe longer.

We return specifically to our tape. There are several job profiles:

  • glow in one color (intensity is adjustable)
  • transition from color to another (both brightness and transition speed are adjusted)
  • choice from preset profiles (sunset, romance, birthday and so on)
  • choice of absolutely any shade (according to the built-in color wheel, via smartphone camera or by uploading your image)
  • schedule and sleep timer settings

You can once and for all set the same backlight that you like the most. And you can change the lighting depending on the time of day or mood. Setting the work schedule is also present, but I liked the other one the most. In the morning and during the day, the bulbs can shine in one color, in the evening another, and at night go to dim lighting, emergency lighting. And all this will change automatically.

Minimum brightness

Maximum brightness

The only pity is that the utility cannot determine itself when you crossed the threshold of the house or, for example, entered the room. However, you can add this feature yourself. The only condition is that you need to be friends with the code. In the parameters, we open access for developers, and at the same time download the necessary APIs from the official website of the manufacturer.

By the way, you can bring the key settings directly to the desktop of your smartphone and not even go into the application itself. The developers have even thought of that.

What is it for?

You can, of course, buy an ordinary LED stretcher at a construction site, install it in the right place and it will shine about the same. But where is the magic? Where?!

What is the Yeelight Lightstrip for? I will explain on one simple example. Invited a girl on a date. I met her near the subway and you walk home together. On the way, through the application, I activated the desired backlight (“Romance” profile), for which Xiaomi Yeelight Lightstrip is responsible. I turned on relaxing music in advance - the Xiaomi Mi Smart Power Plug ($13) is responsible for this. Upon arrival home, when you were already seated on the sofa, I ordered a smart vacuum cleaner to bring glasses and wine to you ($340). The lady's heart is conquered, and the geek's evening was a success.

If you suddenly want to dance, then the tape can switch to light music mode. We make the sound of the speakers louder, and Yeelight Lightstrip begins to play along with colors. In this case, the “ears” are the smartphone, because the LED backlight does not have a built-in microphone.

Energy consumption

The issue of electricity consumption is extremely important. Is it possible to afford to leave the tape on all the time, or is it worth turning on the backlight only at certain moments?

The answer is very simple. Yeelight Lightstrip consumes very little power - 12W. This is much less than the simplest 60 W incandescent lamp, from which, by the way, the cat cried light. So you can score, and always leave the tape on. Planet Earth is safe!

Outcome

Now a smart home is not something from the world of fantasy and is available only to wealthy citizens. Today, this is a very feasible solution. You take two or three hundred dollars, order all kinds of Xiaomi devices for them and equip your home in Hi-Tech style.

The company has a whole arsenal of smart sensors and sockets in its arsenal, there is a kettle that boils with one click in the application, and recently sliding blinds were introduced. The best part about this is that all these bells and whistles are not that expensive, and installation is not some complicated commissioning process, but an exciting adventure. First, you enter your account into the app, connect your smart devices to your home Wi-Fi, and then customize these little electronic fighters to suit your needs.

Xiaomi Yeelight Lightstrip LED Strip is something special. Firstly, it creates a certain atmosphere in the room. It can do this on a schedule or when activated manually in the application. Secondly, I never would have thought that I would experience so much delight from setting up some kind of LED strip. It seems like a boring accessory for home lighting, but in fact a smart and very cool gadget.

I remind you that Xiaomi Yeelight Lightstrip price currently $29. Buy here.
