The best flooring for kids. Making the floor in the children's room: a comparative overview of suitable flooring. Prices for "Wonder Toys"

How to choose the right flooring for a child's room? Which is better - cork, parquet or laminate? Or maybe you should put a practical linoleum or a soft and comfortable carpet? We will answer these and many other questions.

Floor covering for a children's playroom: what should be the material

When choosing flooring for a nursery, parents should forget about such evaluation criteria as price and ease of installation. You need to focus on other characteristics, namely the following:

  1. Environmental friendliness. The material must be natural or at least not emit toxins and carcinogens.
  2. Safety. The coating should not be too hard or slippery, have irregularities, protruding metal elements (corners, screws, nails).
  3. Hypoallergenic.
  4. High wear resistant properties. Children not only crawl and run on the floor, but also roll cars with metal wheels on it, scratch with different toys.
  5. Moisture resistance. The floor covering for the children's playroom should not have absolute protection against water, as, for example, is required in the bathroom, but still, children constantly spill something, which means that you need to make sure that the child's mistake does not become a disaster.
  6. Sun fade resistance. As a rule, they try to make the children's room as light as possible, which means that the floors will also be exposed to ultraviolet radiation.
  7. Ease of care and resistance to stains. These characteristics are more important for parents, as kids often draw with paints and felt-tip pens on the floor, and mothers have to clean the room several times a day.

Laminate

Although it contains synthetic components, it is considered an environmentally friendly and safe coating. It is resistant to damage, easy to clean and retains heat well. Another plus is the fact that recently the price of high-quality laminate has decreased somewhat due to high competition, it also looks quite modern.

This children's room flooring is the perfect option for those who want to install a "warm floor" system.

There are also disadvantages: the laminate can be very “noisy” if it is incorrectly placed or a substrate that is too thin is used, in addition, plasticine is poorly peeled off from it, it is rather slippery and often fades in the sun. And low-quality laminate emits formaldehyde and harmful resins, so you must definitely require a quality certificate in the store.

PVC tiles

The floor covering for the children's room should not be made of PVC tiles. This simple rule used to be based on the characteristics of the material: the floor turned out to be slippery, cold, in addition, synthetics inspired concerns in terms of the safety and health of children.

Everything has changed today. Modern PVC tile is a high-quality, comfortable, warm, wear-resistant material with shock-absorbing properties, resistant to high humidity and temperature extremes. Despite the fact that the coating is 100% synthetic, it has a special hygiene certificate. It does not deform under the weight of heavy furniture, it is easy to wash and clean, and any damaged tiles are easy to replace.

Initially, PVC tiles were intended exclusively for the kitchen and corridor, but in some houses they began to be laid in children's rooms.

Linoleum

This floor covering for an economy-class children's room is inexpensive and practical. This material is not afraid of water, it has good wear resistance, especially for semi-commercial or commercial, and in a good scenario, it will last for decades. Washing linoleum is very easy, you can do wet cleaning in the nursery several times a day.

However, many parents do not even consider this option, since such material is considered non-environmental. In addition, wet linoleum can lead to falls, injuries and bruises. Another bad thing is the smell. Cheap low-quality linoleum smells very strongly even in a huge trading floor, and if you lay it in a small room, the smell becomes simply unbearable. But this drawback can also be found in other coatings, whose manufacturers neglected quality standards. For example, carpet or PVC tiles can also have a specific aroma. It is better to refuse such a purchase immediately.

Today in the markets you can find marmoleum or environmentally friendly linoleum. It is made up of 95-97% natural substances, it is more difficult to care for it, and it is not as durable as other materials. But this coating is safe, and manufacturers increase its wear resistance from year to year.

carpet

Many parents choose soft flooring for the children's room, namely carpet. With him, the room seems cozy and comfortable, and given that the kids spend most of their time on the floor, this option seems quite logical. But the carpet has many disadvantages: it accumulates electricity, as it is made of synthetics; it collects a lot of dust, which is why it is unsafe for children, even if it was made from hypoallergenic materials. This coating also does not like high humidity in the room, and for babies, on the contrary, doctors recommend breathing moist cool air. Carpet is very easy to spoil or stain, plasticine and other substances leave stains on it, so there is a possibility that it will quickly lose its original appearance.

Currently, more and more families are abandoning carpet in favor of other materials, or they are making a combined floor (laminate + carpet) with separate functional areas. In addition, it is useful for buyers to know that, in addition to hypoallergenic, there are also antistatic synthetics.

cork floor

Cork is the best flooring for a child's room. The photo below shows how good this material looks, but it is appreciated not only for its attractive appearance. The cork floor is warm, elastic, with high shock-absorbing properties, which means that children will have less stress on the spine. It is 100% natural and therefore safe. The disadvantages of this material include intolerance to high humidity.

However, there is a mass about this flooring negative reviews. It's all about what's underneath full material unscrupulous sellers (manufacturers) give the buyer an ordinary screed for laminate, the so-called technical cork. Such a floor will not last even a year, since it has low wear resistance, it quickly deforms.

Parquet

What flooring is best for a child's room? Of course, one that is made from natural materials. Parquet in this respect has only pluses - it is safe, environmentally friendly, warm, not noisy (compared to laminate). The disadvantages include the fact that the parquet is easily damaged (scratches and small irregularities can be easily eliminated). In addition, this material does not like changes in humidity and temperature. And, of course, the cost of finishing is important for parents, and good parquet is expensive.

Heated floors and soft puzzle mats

The flooring in the children's room is often supplemented with a "warm floor" system. But it can not be mounted under every material, and in some cases it is simply impossible to do this. In addition, it is not recommended to lay an electric heated floor in the nursery. This is due to the fact that the child will be affected by electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, in rooms where kids spend a lot of time, it is better to install a water-heated floor.

Recently, more and more often in the rooms you can see light colored tiles made of foamed polymer, gathering, like a puzzle, into a large canvas. It can hardly be called a full-fledged floor covering, rather an alternative to carpet and carpet. This material is good in every way - it's soft, safe, easy to clean and fun for kids to play with. In addition, any damaged piece of this puzzle can be removed or replaced.

The floor is the place where the child spends a lot of free time. Games are mostly played on it, many children love to draw, stretching comfortably on a comfortable surface.

The choice of good finishing materials for floors in the nursery should be given increased attention. They should be not only warm and comfortable, but also made of environmentally friendly materials. For all mothers, it is important that the floor in the children's room is easily washed and vacuumed so that the kids cannot scratch it.

What can you advise to choose for the floor when the interior design of the children's room will be done? We offer short review the most common types of flooring in the rooms of your daughters and sons.

Parquet - a durable option

Is it possible to lay this natural material in children's rooms? Without a doubt, if you can afford to allocate a significant amount from family budget, then the durable parquet will perfectly fit into the children's interior.

Heed the advice of professionals: dark types of parquet are only suitable for an academic atmosphere, they will look good in the office of a business person, but not in the bedroom, for example, of an eight-year-old boy.

To saturated dark shades parquet is used when they are afraid that small children will be able to damage it. The fact is that scratches, if they occur, will be equally clearly visible on both dark and light parquet fragments.

No need to worry too much: for you, choosing such a cover is a wonderful educational chance to teach your child to appreciate things. If damage is done, then believe that it is very easy to repair.

Caring for parquet is also quite simple if you know how. Important point: he is afraid of moisture, so ordinary wet cleaning is not possible. If you doubt, then consider purchasing parquet board. It is a good alternative to parquet, as all of its properties are retained at a lower cost.

Laminate is a cost-effective option

What floor would look best in a nursery? The right choice of laminate flooring will be the perfect flooring, as it will look just as sophisticated on the outside as the flooring described above. Until quite recently, laminate floors were unfamiliar to us.

Today they are becoming more and more popular among Russians, so such a floor for a nursery will be beneficial both from an aesthetic point of view and from an economic point of view, when compared with expensive parquet.

Laminate is impact-resistant, environmentally friendly, easy to clean. The most difficult stains, even with a small amount of detergent, are gently removed and no traces remain. A well-known problem with adhering plasticine - in our case, there is no reason to worry at all.

Do you want to create the most favorable environment in the child's room?

Children's color important element interior, which creates a certain mood. It is not problematic to choose a certain color for a floor made of laminate, as it is available in various colors, ornaments, and patterns.

What other floor to make in the nursery so that it is safe?

All Decoration Materials must be natural. All synthetic varieties can cause allergies in a child and others. serious illness so don't skimp on it. What else can you recommend:

  • Carpets and rugs are soft underfloor heating, but daily high-quality cleaning is required, as they can accumulate dust and dirt in huge quantities. Color solutions can be very diverse, but the pile should be chosen only soft.
  • Linoleum is a democratic coating. Those designs that are specially designed for children look very colorful. It is necessary to select especially carefully so that it is completely safe for the child. Many manufacturers claim that their linoleum is made only from natural ingredients. You don’t need to believe a word, but you should carefully study the certificates attached to the product so that it is not treated with synthetic resins and does not have polyvinyl chloride.
  • Cork floor for the nursery - this is how it should ideally be. Cork is natural, soft, warm, easy to clean. No injuries will be too scary if the baby is on cork. But, alas, the price is not for all wallets.

Do not get too carried away with projects from glossy magazines, where design trends driven by fashion, not expediency. We wish you to lay the most convenient and safe floor in your children's room for a comfortable stay in it for little owners.

  • the floors should not only be comfortable for the kids, but also for the kindergarten staff, who clean up there. It is very important that the surface lends itself to dry and wet cleaning.

Types of non-removable floor covering

Today there is a lot of material that can be used in children's institutions.

According to SanPiN 2.4.1.3049-13, sources that retain heat can be used. They can be treated with cleaning agents, detergents.

We list the key types floor coverings for playrooms non-removable option and indicate their advantages:

  • actual use of carpet. Every meter of the room will be safe. The textile base will soften the fall during outdoor games. Carpet is practical, does not allow dust to scatter in the room. It is easily assembled with a conventional vacuum cleaner;

  • cork flooring is a great solution. The main advantage lies in the benefits for children's health. Having completed its installation, it will have a positive effect on musculoskeletal system baby. During movement, the effect of "unloading" for the joints is created;

  • it became "fashionable" to use soft tiles. Such flooring for children's playroom in a preschool expensive pleasure but the stuff is worth it. A special source is used - EVA tiles. In addition to the benefits, the presence of such a rug will make the game even more interesting and exciting;

  • orthopedic rugs - are actively used in compensating type gardens. They are simulators that allow you to cope with flat feet and other problems. Such surfaces are therapeutic effect, have a relief structure. Their task is to deeply massage the feet.

In any normal family, parents try to make the life of their children as comfortable as possible. Even in small apartments adults, often to the detriment of their own comforts, tend to give their children separate room. And of course, to equip it in such a way that the room turned out to be cozy, beautiful, comfortable and, let's not be afraid to say, interesting for children. In the foreground, in addition to this, there are always security issues.

The traditional playground for children is the floor, which means that special attention should be paid to its surface. One of the solutions is a soft floor for children's rooms, which can make these rooms comfortable and safe for children of any age. Today, manufacturers supply various soft floor coverings to the market. But in order to choose the material for the room where the child will constantly be, it is necessary to take into account the criteria that it must meet.

The carpet, which once came into use rapidly, soon showed its inconsistency - it has too many shortcomings. And recommending it for a nursery is hardly reasonable. But more can be considered modern options. So, composite is gaining more and more popularity. polymer coating EVA. This material is used to make rugs, mats, household accessories, orthopedic and ordinary shoes, children's toys, and even in dentistry, which in itself speaks of its environmental safety. This soft cover and its application for the children's room will be discussed in this publication.

Criteria for choosing coverage for a children's room

The room reserved for the children's room is always finished with materials that must meet some important criteria. They should be the key when choosing. The flooring is no exception.

When purchasing material, you should pay attention to the following factors:

  • Environmental safety of the coating. The material should not contain toxic components that will be released into environment substances hazardous to the health of the child.
  • The coating should not cause allergic reactions, even with a predisposition to it.
  • Safety. The surface should not be too hard or slippery.
  • Heat and sound insulation. The cover must provide high level thermal insulation, since the child long time spends on the floor. The ability of the material to dampen sounds from running and jumping of the baby will help to keep a good relationship with downstairs neighbors.
  • Hygienic and easy to clean. The coating material should be easily cleaned of dirt both with the help of dry and wet cleaning, and also should not attract dust.

  • Aesthetics and functionality of a covering. Children's room should not only be bright and beautiful, but also have accessories that will help kids understand colors, letters and numbers, as well as develop hand motor skills faster.

soft floor prices

soft floor

From the above criteria, we can conclude that rather stringent requirements are imposed on the materials. Therefore, in order to be confident in your choice, when purchasing a material, it is necessary to evaluate not only external qualities. You should never hesitate to ask the seller for a hygiene certificate for products.

Find out how to organize correctly in a special article on our portal.

The main characteristics of the soft coating

The soft modular coating is made of a polymer composite - ethylene vinyl acetate, produced from copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate. In another way, this material is abbreviated as EVA or, in Russian spelling, EVA polymer.

EVA polymers have the following physical, technical and operational characteristics:

  • The material is quite light. Thus, the specific gravity of the coating is 1.1÷2.4 kg/m², depending on the thickness of the coating, which is almost four times less than the weight of PVC.
  • EVA polymer has a high coefficient of elasticity, elasticity and flexibility, which contributes to good cushioning.
  • The environmental safety of the material is important. It is odorless and does not emit toxic substances into the air.
  • The softness of the coating. According to the Shore stiffness table, the parameter is 30 ÷ 50 units, which is quite enough to prevent serious injuries when a child falls.
  • The coating has high wear resistance and resistance to mechanical damage.
  • The porosity of the polymer provides high heat and sound insulation of the floor. Thus, its thermal conductivity coefficient is only 0.04 W / (m × K), which is comparable to highly efficient insulation materials.
  • The material is not slippery, which also reduces the risk of injury and helps to maintain balance during outdoor games.
  • EVA polymer is not electrified, so there is no risk of weak discharges during cleaning.
  • Operational temperature regime, at which the material retains its integrity, is from -80°C to +85°C. That is, in any theoretically possible conditions.
  • Characterized by high resistance to impact chemical substances, the polymer is not destroyed by oils, solvents, as well as any household detergents.
  • EVA plastics are hypoallergenic materials, as they do not contain substances that can cause allergic reactions.
  • The coating does not absorb moisture, does not become a breeding ground for the development of mold or colonies of other pathogenic microflora.
  • There is a high resistance to ultraviolet radiation. The material does not undergo destructurization from it, and the saturation of the colors of the modules will remain for the entire period of operation.
  • The main operational characteristics of the soft coating do not change during the entire period of its intensive operation.

  • The modular coating has, so to speak, mobility, so if necessary it can be dismantled and moved to another room. In addition, in the event of mechanical damage, the segment can be easily replaced with a new one.
  • Despite the softness and flexibility of the coating, the child will not be able to bite off a piece of it, which is also extremely important for the safety of the baby.

  • A variety of aesthetic design allows you to choose a coating for a certain age of the child.

Why is EVA polymer better than other coatings?

A few words should also be said about why it is preferable to choose ethylene vinyl acetate for flooring in a children's room. To do this, knowing its characteristics, you need to compare it with other traditional materials.

When a child grows and develops, it is quite difficult to limit his activity, therefore, in order to avoid injury, as well as to prevent hypothermia, many parents lay carpets or blankets on the floors. However, it is difficult to cover the entire area of the room with such a product, which no longer excludes the baby from leaving this conditionally safe zone. In addition, fabric or carpet underlays can slip on laminate or other smooth surfaces, which, on the contrary, will provoke dangerous situations.

The fleecy surfaces of the carpets, as well as the fabric, well attract dust masses, which are almost impossible to completely remove from them. Such pollution is a source of accumulation and development of dust mites and other microorganisms that cause allergic reactions that can become chronic.

In addition, both blankets and carpets do not have such high thermal insulation qualities, in connection with this, the child can become cold from frequent exposure to the floor.

For all of the listed positions, without exception, EVA coating is much safer, and is best suited for children's rooms.

How to choose a quality soft floor?

It should be noted right away that the soft flooring for the children's room differs from the modular flooring used for flooring in offices, shops and other in public places. The difference lies not only in appearance modules, but also in the composition of the material from which they are made. Therefore, a coating chosen thoughtlessly, without taking into account important features, only by first impression or for reasons of affordability, may become unsafe for a small child.

In order not to make a mistake and choose a really high-quality material with the required characteristics, it is worth considering some recommendations:

  • Coverage cost. You should not purchase material that has a price below the average market price. Most likely, the products are made of a cheaper polymer and, possibly, in semi-handicraft conditions, where standards or at least specifications- not even a speech. Too much low price- this is always a reason to doubt the environmental friendliness of the coating, as well as its compliance specifications declared indicators.
  • Whenever possible, you should choose products that are made by a manufacturer that has proven itself in the market.
  • The material should not have foreign odors. Almost all Chinese-made coatings sin with an unpleasant, pronounced "aroma", which indicates their dubious quality. It is best to refuse such products, since they clearly contain toxic components.
  • Covering for a children's room must necessarily be accompanied by certificates of quality and hygiene.

  • In order not to purchase counterfeit, it is necessary to buy modules sealed in the package, each of which the manufacturer puts instructions, and where all the details of the company must be indicated.
  • If a monochromatic coating is purchased, you need to pay attention to the production batch number. It should be identical on different packs, since modules from different batches may, although not very strongly, still differ in the intensity of the shade.

Varieties of soft flooring

When choosing a soft floor for a children's room, you need to take into account that there are modular versions of it, assembled according to the principle of puzzles, and made in the form of "carpets" of a relatively large area.

In addition to such models, EVA coatings are produced for ordinary rooms, gyms, as well as an orthopedic type, which are also well suited for a children's room.

Prices for "BABYPOL"

EVA-modules of increased rigidity have been developed for premises with an increased intensity of people's movement. As a rule, such material is produced in monochrome or with a pattern applied to the surface that imitates the texture of a board or other wood-based coating (parquet, etc.).

When assembling modules with a pattern imitating a wooden texture, the joints between them become almost invisible

Modules different types differ in their linear parameters:

  • Modular coverings for children's rooms usually have a segment size of 300×300 or 330×330 mm, the thickness of the modules can be 9÷10 mm.
  • Soft modules of increased rigidity, designed for rooms with an increased intensity of people's movement, can have a size of 400 × 400 or 500 × 500 mm and a thickness of 10 ÷ 12 mm.
  • Soft coating for sports halls is produced with a module size of 1000 × 1000 mm and a thickness of 20 ÷ 40 mm.
  • Solid flooring is produced both in the form of small rugs and large carpets with a size of 2000 × 1800 mm and a thickness of 10 mm.

  • Orthopedic modular coating is made up of "puzzles" with a size of 250 × 250 mm.

Soft floor care

The soft modular floor does not accumulate static electricity, so it does not attract dust. However, any material still requires periodic cleaning. The soft cover is no exception.

Cleaning can be done in several ways:

  • Dry cleaning with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Wet cleaning with a damp cloth. In this case, a detergent for children's dishes can be used.
  • Heavily soiled modules are soaked in a bath and then cleaned with a medium hard brush. The modules are then placed on the grid and allowed to drain off the water. After that, the coating can be laid again on the floors.
  • Some housewives, having shown ingenuity, facilitating work and saving time, have adapted a dishwasher to wash the modules. However, do not be zealous with the temperature, it should not be higher than 55 degrees. The modules must be installed vertically on the washing machine grid.

In the manufacture of the coating, persistent dyes are used, therefore bright colors do not lose their intensity throughout the entire period of operation, including even after washing the modules in the dishwasher.

The material does not absorb moisture - any liquids spilled on it, be it oil or water, do not spread over the surface, so they can be easily removed with a highly absorbent cloth. At the same time, no traces remain on the coating.

Also, traces of colored pencils, markers and felt-tip pens are well removed from the surface. Plasticine is not imprinted into the floors of the material - it is easily cleaned from the surface.

Cannot be used to clean soft floors detergents containing abrasives. They can damage the surface and degrade its quality.

The material is soft, but very elastic, so it is quite difficult to tear or damage it with sharp objects. Toddlers during teething are pulled into their mouths and bite literally everything indiscriminately. If a coating with removable elements is chosen, then they will also have a "fate to be bitten." Traces may remain on them, but the child will not be able to bite off a piece, poet, and from this side the material is safe.

As you can see from the presented characteristics, the soft floor is suitable for rooms in which children of different ages live. So, it is convenient for babies up to a year on the floor to learn to crawl, and then walk and keep balance, develop motor skills and logic. Perfect coverage for active games and sports for older children.

Parents can be calm for the safety of the child. Even if he falls during the game, he will not receive serious injuries, and he will not inhale dust, which is abundant in other soft textile coatings.

And further. Interestingly, some soft modular mats for young children are also equipped with sound devices. For example, imitating the sounds that certain animals make. It is difficult to say how justified this is, but at first the child will certainly like this “option”.
