Garage wall decor. Garage interior. Wall decoration: choice of material

Any car owner wants his car to be in a secure place. But many not only store the car in it, but often spend a lot of time in the garage themselves. The choice of cladding will depend on the purpose: whether you use it as storage or often go there with friends. In any case, this is a non-residential premises: appearance materials fade into the background, but practicality is at the head.

The easiest option is to plaster the walls in the garage. But we will analyze other methods in the article below.

  1. impact resistance;
  2. Ease of care;
  3. moisture resistance;
  4. fire resistance;
  5. Strength;
  6. Resistant to temperature extremes.

Before choosing how to finish the walls in the garage, you need to decide, and what are the actual requirements for this room? The garage is a cold and damp place. At the same time, the presence of technical dirt can spoil any type of cladding.

The material for the walls must be chosen impact-resistant, it is better that the surface is not afraid of scratches. Often in the garage we store a lot of combustible substances, so its lining must be fireproof or at least not support combustion.

Another decisive factor is ease of maintenance. Few people want to constantly wash the walls, so the material should not be susceptible to aggressive substances and not be afraid of wet cleaning.

Before facing the garage walls are usually insulated. However, this should not be zealous. Many people think that ideal conditions the contents of the machine are the same as those of a person. Quite the opposite. The temperature in the garage in winter should not exceed five degrees. Strong temperature drops will not benefit your iron horse, but only harm.

Another one common mistake is the lack of ventilation. You do not need to clog all the holes to the last, so you prevent the car from ventilating and risk suffering yourself. In the garage, a lot of harmful gases dangerous to health and life are collected from the car. The ventilation system must be mandatory.

How can you insulate the walls in the garage:

  1. Mineral wool
  2. glass wool
  3. Styrofoam

One of the common heaters is mineral wool. This is a breathable material, it will not create the effect of a can. The weak side of cotton wool is that it absorbs moisture, so when using it, you need to protect it with a vapor barrier.

Glass wool is one of the cheapest insulation materials. But working with her is much more difficult. You need to work carefully, in protection and gloves. It will not be possible to scratch your nose during work. Glass wool is afraid of water, so it is wrapped with foil insulation for protection. If water gets on the glass wool during operation, it can be thrown away.

The most common material for insulation is foam. It is also used in apartments, houses, garages. It is easy to work with it, it is inexpensive. It is easy to cut and weighs little. Polyfoam is not afraid of moisture, insects, decay, additional processing is not required. But he also has weak sides. Styrofoam does not pass air and burns well enough.

Maximum heat loss occurs through the garage door, so their insulation is most important. You can not even insulate only the gate. Their insulation occurs in the same way as the walls.

How to decorate the walls of the garage

In most cases, the finish is more aesthetic in nature, but you should also think about the practical side. Under some types of cladding, you can lay a heater that will save your car.

  1. Plaster
  2. Tile
  3. PVC panels
  4. clapboard
  5. Plywood or OSB

Plaster

An old and simple finishing method. Hides imperfections, while not taking centimeters from the space. But such a finish, of course, will not save your walls from dirt, but you can put insulation under it. As such, you can use ordinary foam. The thickness of the sheet should be at least 5 cm. Do not take thin sheets, in our fierce winter they will simply be useless.

Treat the walls with a primer in two layers. This is necessary, since it is it that prevents the accumulation of moisture. From below, near the floor, a frame is fixed on which the plates will be located. They are attached to the wall with glue. For better adhesion, glue should be smeared around the perimeter of the entire sheet, if there is nothing, then you can apply it in drops at the edges and in the center.

After completely pasting the entire perimeter of the walls, plaster the walls. Spread the adhesive evenly on the wall with a spatula. Before it dries, install the sickle. You can fix the plates with the help of fungal dowels. Then apply plaster. The layer should be half a centimeter. After drying, go over the wall with sandpaper to get rid of imperfections. Depending on the result, you can leave it like that, go through a layer of plaster again or paint the wall.

Tile

Tiles have been and remain one of the most common types of wall decoration in rooms with high humidity and dirt. The garage is no exception. It will survive any weather conditions and will not deform. However, you should be careful with chips, you don’t need to hit the tile with tools, it is strong enough, but still it’s better not to risk it. The tile is easy to care for, so it fits well.

The wall before laying is primed and installed on the glue. For best results, the adhesive is applied and smeared over the tile and a thin layer is applied to the wall. Special crosses are installed at the corners of the tiles so that the distance between the tiles is the same. After drying, the crosses are removed and the seams are overwritten. One significant disadvantage of laying tiles is the price, you will spend a lot of money.

PVC panels

Like any material, plastic panels have their strengths and weaknesses. It is better to buy plastic panels for facade work, they have more quality characteristics. The panels are easy to care for. They are light weight and easy to install. There are two ways of mounting: directly to the wall or on the frame.

The panels are not afraid of water and temperature changes. They will easily withstand all-weather conditions, while they do not need additional processing.

Calculating the right number of panels is easy: just measure the length of all the walls and divide by the width of one panel. Add 2-3 panels to this number in case of deformation during transportation or during work. Attaching the panels to the adhesive is not particularly difficult: just apply it to inner part panels and attach to the wall. But the frame installation involves more complex work.

The surface must be washed and dried before work. Mark the wall from below to install the first plank and mark the vertical lines for attaching the profile. Installation begins with the side rails, pull the ropes between them using a tape measure and a level. So the vertical guides will stand up straighter. An internal profile is installed at the corners, and a starting one from below. Fasten the bar into it until a characteristic click. Then install all the planks until the wall is completely filled.

wood finish

Clapboard lining is one of the most popular types of lining. This type of cladding in the event of a fire will only add a spark, but it looks great. To ensure safety, you can treat the tree with a special fire-fighting compound. The main thing is to pay attention to its composition, no toxic substances. This will not completely eliminate the fire of the skin, but it will significantly reduce the risk.

Many choose lining because of its convenience. It is easy to screw shelves, carnations onto a tree and in general it is easier to work with it. The material will not be damaged. For a garage, this is an important condition, so many people choose lining.

Before installation, treat the wall with an antifungal compound so that mold and fungus do not gather under the tree. Lining, like plastic panels mounted on a frame. The installation process is no different.

Sheathing with plywood or OSB

Another popular type of cladding. However, OSB sheets and plywood are not water resistant, so they must be treated with a water-repellent composition before installation in the garage. In terms of cost, these materials are in the middle of the price category. They can be painted or tiled on top.

Expert comment

If you have a question about how to sheathe the walls in the garage, then there will be many answers. There are several options, ideal solution No. Some materials are not susceptible to moisture, but are difficult to install, others are susceptible to fire, etc. The choice lies with the owner. Decide what is more important to you: safety, appearance or durability of the material and buy based on your preferences.

The cheapest finishing option is plaster. But such a process requires at least some skills and is long in installation. Although it is convenient to work out in the garage before future repairs in the apartment. tile most convenient option care. It is easy and simple to remove dirt from it, but, unfortunately, it is afraid of blows. If you accidentally hit a surface with a tool, a chip may form.

Another selection criterion is fastening. If you attach the material directly to the wall, then you will not be able to insulate the garage. But when installing the frame, you can lay thermal insulation with any comfortable material. But do not forget that the garage must have a ventilation system. Completely covering the openings can be life-threatening due to carbon monoxide from the machine.

Arrangement and design of the garage (50 photos)

The article uses information from the sites doordesign.pro and homedes.pro

For every man, the garage is a special place, ready to become his second home. This is a place for self-expression and spiritual relaxation. It is here that the aromas of gasoline, engine oil and metal oxide hover. Quite often, the garage has many purposes. This site is being converted into a parking lot, storage room and workshop, as well as a place for men's gatherings.

Therefore, the design of the garage and its interior should be as thoughtful and appropriate as possible. In this article we will talk about arranging the design inside the garage, and show photos and real options suitable and accessible garages.

Particular attention should be paid to the decoration of the walls. Choosing Decoration Materials for a garage, consider some target features. First of all, the material should not be combustible, since fuel and lubricants are often stored in the garage itself. In addition, such materials must be moisture resistant and resistant to mechanical stress.

As a rule, all surfaces, walls and ceilings in the garage are not perfectly even. In this case, a cement-sand plaster mortar will help to correct the situation, which will level the walls and smooth out uneven surfaces.

When the walls are even, it is best to cover them with a protective layer of facade paint. If the garage has a fairly discreet and small area, it is best to use paint in warm and light colors, which will visually increase the space. But, this solution also has a downside - the wall surfaces in the garage can quickly get dirty.

Wall surfaces in the garage can be sheathed with PVC plastic panels. The advantage of this method is the possibility of insulating the garage by laying an additional layer of insulation between the garage wall and the panel. The choice of colors and shades of panels is the same as in the case of paints. The only difference is the ability to order panels with prints and patterns, which will make the garage even more unique.

To design a garage, it is worth considering not only surfaces, but also functional furniture. Cabinets with big amount pull-out drawers for storing tools. Inside the garage, a large number of shelves and hangers are also welcome, on which you can store various tools and details.

Garage interior decoration

Often a garage is associated with a room that is not cleaned, constantly dirty, stinks and only true men can stay in it. But it is not always the case. Despite the dirty work, your garage can be kept clean and well maintained. Everything is achieved thanks to a good interior finish. If earlier choice materials was limited, today there is no shortage. There are plenty of finishing materials, which allows you to make your garage a pleasant place where you want to go.

In addition, high-quality finish also performs protective functions. What exactly to choose for finishing - the decision is purely yours. This is where personal preference and budget come into play. In this article, we will look at design options and how the interior decoration of the garage takes place.

Finishing the garage inside - is it necessary

Many may ask why finish the garage from the inside at all. Of course, when it comes to outdoor work, everyone wants to make the garage beautiful and attractive. And the supporting structures will be reliably protected from external influences. After all, frost, rain and wind - all this negatively affects the walls of the building. But after all, nothing threatens anything inside the garage of the structure.

In fact, interior decoration is also important. Like it or not, the walls of the garage will also be protected. This applies to dirt, moisture, mechanical damage and other factors. The second point is aesthetic beauty. It has been proven that in a comfortable environment it is better to work and be more pleasant. And since motorists spend a lot of time in the garage, this is important. Moreover, when you plan to carry out insulation, then you will have to finish the garage for sure. Finishing will protect the insulation so that it does not lose its properties. But, the question arises: what should be the finishing material for finishing the garage from the inside?

Criteria for the choice of material for cladding

So that all the work you have done is not in vain, you need to choose the right material for each surface in the garage. It is important that it be able to withstand a certain load, the influence of the external environment, as well as aggressive technical substances that are typical for a garage. If you make a list of requirements, it will look like this:

If we continue the topic general requirements to the characteristics of finishing materials, they also exist and there are many of them:

  • each material must be fireproof and not burn. Garage - a room with high risk the occurrence of a fire, as it contains flammable substances;
  • the surface of the finish must be resistant to chemical attack;
  • no less important is the resistance of the material to moisture;
  • in the event that the garage is not insulated, choose materials that are resistant to temperature fluctuations;
  • in order not to change the lining after a few years, choose a high-quality and durable material. It is better to pay more, but do it once and for several decades.

Among other things, I would like to note one more factor, it is not the main, but important - the aesthetic side. Then being inside will be pleasant not only for you, but also for other visitors.

Garage floor installation

Most often, ordinary people use the garage just to store the car. In such cases, a viewing hole is not made. In this case, the base floor can be simple soil, tightly packed. To do this, you need to make a concrete screed. Now we will look at how you can make a garage floor with your own hands.

First you need to level the ground. In places where there are large drops, add sand or gravel. The base must be waterproofed. To do this, you will need a ruberoid. Lay it on top, laying the sheets overlapping. Then the moisture from the concrete solution will not be absorbed into the soil. A reinforcing mesh is laid on this base. So, you will make the concrete screed even stronger.

After that, beacons are set according to the level. They will serve as a guide, and will make the floor even. Next, you need to prepare a concrete solution, which is poured onto the floor. Its composition is simple:

But to get a quality product, you need to achieve the right ratio of components. To fill the floor of the garage, the proportion is suitable: 2: 1: 3 (sand, cement, crushed stone). All this is filled with water. It will take just enough to get the right consistency. The solution should not be liquid or thick.

Now you can start pouring the floor in the garage. Ideally, do everything in one go. Then the floor will not have cracks and will become monolithic. In this work, you can not do without an assistant. The thickness of the screed should be at least 10 cm. After filling, it remains to level the surface and leave everything to dry completely (about a month). You will see the process of pouring the floor in more detail in this video.

This is all? Not at all. Leave the floor in the garage in this form is impossible. After all, concrete will absorb moisture and collapse. And the oil you spill will leave on the floor black spot. Over time, the entire floor of the garage will turn into a solid black spot. What to do? Use finishing materials.

The simplest and cheapest of them is moisture-resistant and wear-resistant paint. trite, but concrete base will be protected. In addition, you can wash the floor in the garage. The second option is to cover the screed with marble chips. And ideally, use ceramic tiles and its varieties. Some use paving or clinker tiles. These materials are very wear-resistant and can withstand various loads.

Garage wall decoration

The design of the walls of the garage is more diverse, and there will be a little more work. There is only one floor in the garage and four walls. What materials are used to decorate the walls of the garage from the inside? Here are the most popular ones:

  1. Plaster
  2. Drywall.
  3. Ceramic tile.
  4. Dye.
  5. Clapboard.
  6. OSB sheets.

Plastering the walls is somewhat reminiscent of pouring the floor. This is the so-called wet way to level the wall, protect it and prepare it for further finishing. The process is simple but laborious. It all comes down to placing beacons on the walls, preparing the plaster and applying it with special tools. However, not everyone can cope with this task. This video will help you with this.

Thanks to the plastering of the walls, you can level them and prepare them for further finishing with paint, tiles or plaster.

For example, tiles can be laid to the middle of the wall or less, because it is in those places that the walls are particularly affected. And the upper part of the wall is painted with paint for facade work.

But to insulate your garage, you'll be taking up valuable space. It is much more profitable to use another way to finish the garage - sheathing with drywall, clapboard or OSB sheets. Why? It's all about the plating technology. To complete it, you need to make a metal or wooden crate with a certain step. After that, drywall sheets, lining or OSB are attached to this crate.

Since there will be free space between the laths of the crate, it is filled with insulation. It can be mineral wool, polyurethane foam, polystyrene or polystyrene. In this case, the thickness of the rail will be equal to the thickness of the insulation. From above, all this is covered with a vapor barrier film, and after that drywall, lining or OSB is fixed.

Drywall fastening is carried out by means of self-tapping screws, butt joint. In the future, it is puttied and finished with another finishing material of your choice. The lining is fastened with a thorn-in-groove method, using nails, kleimers, staples or self-tapping screws. OSB are fixed with nails or self-tapping screws, butt joint. How this finish looks like can be seen in the photo.

Advantage of drywall

For the garage, a special moisture-resistant drywall is used, which has green color. What is good about this material?

  1. Has a small weight.
  2. Easy installation.
  3. Affordable price.
  4. Versatility, after completion you can make any finish you want.
  5. Gypsum is able to absorb excess moisture, and when dry, give it away.

The advantage of lining

  1. Frost resistance.
  2. Due to impregnation, it does not burn.
  3. Durability.
  4. Lack of dirt and construction debris after work.
  5. Resistance to mechanical stress.
  6. Environmentally friendly.
  7. Easy to install.
  8. Has an attractive appearance.

Benefits of tiles

  1. Durable.
  2. Durable.
  3. Reliable.
  4. Does not burn.
  5. Lack of dirt and construction debris after work.
  6. It has high resistance to chemical and physical influences.
  7. Just take care of her.
  8. Aesthetically attractive.

The choice can be difficult, but you must make up your mind. You like naturalness and beauty - use lining. You are an adherent of strength and reliability - you suitable tile. If you are limited in funds, then use drywall with subsequent staining. There are many options, it's up to you.

Garage ceiling trim

The interior decoration of the garage room with a ceiling ends. This is a special area, since there is practically no physical influence on it. That is why the requirements for the finishing material for the garage ceiling are not so serious. If necessary, you can also insulate the ceiling of the garage. Then the technology of the device is similar to wall decoration. In order for the materials to harmonize with each other, sometimes the ceiling lining is made with the same material as the walls. But this is optional.

The most common materials for finishing the garage ceiling are PVC panels and banal plastering. Why PVC? The material is quite light, easy to work with and, most importantly, it is cheap. Although the list of positives does not end there. Plastic is easy to clean and resistant to aggressive agents. He is not afraid of evaporation and temperature fluctuations. And finally, the manufacturers of finishing material have tried with colors and patterns. This cover will last a long time. If necessary, the damaged part can be easily replaced.

Nevertheless, the owner himself has the right to decide how to sheathe the ceiling. It can be the same wooden lining, OSB or drywall. The materials are also suitable for use on the ceiling of the garage. Only here you need to take care of how to perform high-quality waterproofing of the ceiling. Without it, materials will collapse. The easiest way to make a water barrier is to cover everything with roofing felt or waterproofing film. And the condition of the roof needs to be assessed. If roofing material damaged, then repair everything.

Summing up

Now you know how to make the interior of a major garage. You have seen that there are more than enough materials for such work. Sometimes it even scares, because it can be very difficult to choose. But, you must compare all the pros and cons, calculate your strengths and act. Don't skimp on something like this. Everyone knows how much the miser will end up paying. And you don't want to be one of them. But after all the work, you will get a wonderful garage in which it will be pleasant to work and stay. Seeing the finished result, you will understand that all efforts were not in vain.

The subtleties of finishing the garage

Every car owner wants his garage to be not only a home for the car, but also a well-equipped workshop. The main association with the word garage is a place where it is not very clean and smells of gasoline. But thanks modern materials The garage can be transformed without any effort.

Peculiarities

Thanks to the correct finishing of the garage, you can make not only a cozy atmosphere, but also create a room design that will correspond to the direction of its use. This can depend on many factors, such as how many floors the garage will have. It also depends on how far from the house it will be located and whether it is a built-in garage at the bottom of the house, located in the basement or a separate building.

The modern market presents a huge opportunity to choose materials for decoration. They can be purchased at any price that suits a person and choose the option that is suitable for decorating the room. With the help of selected materials, you can hide all the imperfections, as well as transform the place for the car beyond recognition.

When choosing a cladding, you should consider for which surface this or that material is suitable.

Garage floors must be able to withstand very heavy loads. It is necessary to pay special attention to the decoration of the walls. It must withstand any impact, as well as be resistant to various influences. Ceiling lining must be made of a material that is resistant to evaporation.

You also need to pay attention to what the materials themselves should be. Finishing the room must be fire resistant. After all, there are flammable substances in the garage and there is a risk of fire. It is also necessary that the cladding be resistant to impact. chemical elements . It should not be sensitive to humidity and sudden changes in temperature, especially if the room is not heated. Finishing materials must have a long service life, as well as an aesthetic appearance.

materials

There are many materials that can be used to decorate a garage. Sheathing can be done with a profiled sheet, clapboard, drywall, stone. To determine which one fit best Thus, it is necessary to consider them in more detail.

Concrete

Most often, concrete is used for such premises. After all, he is better than others on walls made of brick or aerated concrete. It has great strength, is not afraid of fire, if necessary, it can be easily carried out on a concrete surface. repair work.

But like any material, concrete has its drawbacks. Its installation is a labor-intensive work, which consists in the preparation of the solution, as well as its application. It is necessary to have certain skills in finishing work. Their absence can lead to surface cracking or even concrete flaking. The second disadvantage is that such a process is considered a dirty job, so there will be a lot of cleaning at the end of it, which not everyone wants to mess with.

Drywall

The interior decoration of the garage space can be done with drywall. For its fastening, you can use special glue. If the surfaces are uneven or you need to insulate the room, you can attach it with metal frame. However, this option will take a little space and the room will decrease in size. For the garage, it is better to take fire-resistant and moisture-resistant drywall, which has a gray-green color and red markings.

GKLVO has many advantages. These include relatively low weight, lightness installation work, small price. Compared to other materials, the room remains clean during the finishing with sheets, and after its completion, you do not need to spend a lot of time cleaning. The material also absorbs moisture well. From it, if necessary, you can make partitions mounted with an iron frame and organize a workshop or a small warehouse.

Its surface can be finished with any material. Drywall is suitable for finishing both walls and ceilings.

Ceramic tile

This material is ideal for the garage. After all quality tiles features water resistance and fire resistance. It makes the room neat due to the fact that it is washed with any means and is cleaned in just a couple of minutes.

If the tile is properly laid, it will withstand any load, and will also last a long time.

Facing is best done with porcelain stoneware or clinker tiles, which have greater strength. The disadvantage is that it has a huge weight and a high price.

Panels

The lining of the room with clapboard is very popular. It may consist from natural wood. Surfaces can also be finished with PVC panels or OSB sheets.. Such material is easy to install. If we consider wooden panels, then they also have many advantages. Among the advantages can be noted a long service life, resistance to frost, environmental friendliness, a large selection of colors.

However, it is not without drawbacks. Wooden panels susceptible to insect attack, highly flammable, and also susceptible to mold, besides, they have a high price.

The advantages of plastic panels include qualities such as light weight, the ability to endure temperature changes, the possibility of doing installation work with your own hands without the involvement of specialists. Also, these panels are low price and a large selection of colors.

The disadvantages include that they are flammable and very fragile.

OSB sheets are made up of layers of wood shavings that are large in size. For a bunch, resins of trees from needles or formaldehydes are used.

Sheets are divided into several types. OSB-3 is of high quality and has high moisture resistance. However OSB-4 is considered more durable Moreover, it can be used for interior and exterior decoration. It is not afraid of temperature changes, has a long service life, good sound insulation. However, it also has a strong flammability.

Modular coverage

Absolutely the new kind finishing material - plates consisting of PVC or rubber. You can lay them not only in the garage, but also on the site adjacent to it.

Modular plates have many positive feedback. They can withstand any, even very low temperatures, easy to install, have high strength. Installation is carried out using a special adhesive.

PVC panels have a rough surface, so using them, it is impossible to slip even on a wet floor.

Siding

Most often, this material is used for finishing a brick room outside. Covering with siding gives even the old building beauty and attractiveness. However, recently it has also been used for interior decoration of garages, because it has many advantages.

First of all, I am glad that it is fireproof, durable and relatively inexpensive.

Stone

Often for lining garages use natural or fake diamond. This finish looks very beautiful, besides, it is not afraid of weather conditions, humidity, or fire. However, its price is too high.

Floor device

Very often people need a garage just to store the car, and therefore the availability viewing hole not necessary. Then when laying the floor, you can simply make a screed. This is not a very complicated process, and anyone can do everything with their own hands.

For this the first step is to level the ground with sand and gravel. Then a layer of waterproofing layer is laid down. For these purposes, suitable roofing material. It must be laid with an overlap so that the moisture of the concrete solution cannot go into the ground. On top of the roofing material, you can put a reinforcing mesh for a stronger screed.

The next step is the installation of beacons, which is done by level. This will make the flooring even. Then a concrete solution is prepared and poured onto the floor. Its components are very simple and widely available. This is the usual sand, cement and crushed stone, the proportions of which are 2: 1: 3 respectively. Everything is filled with water to make a solution of medium density. To facilitate the work, you can use a concrete mixer.

Filling must be done in one step so that the floor does not have cracks and is solid. The screed must be at least ten centimeters thick. At the end of it, you need to level the surface well with the help of a building level. The drying process can take up to one month..

After this time, you can start finishing concrete. Moisture-resistant paint or marble chips are suitable for this. The ideal coating would be ceramic, paving or clinker tiles that can withstand any load. Before laying it, it is necessary to process concrete pavement primer, which does not allow absorbing moisture from the adhesive, and only then proceed with laying the tiles.

If the floor requires insulation, it is necessary to make flooring from boards. For this, concrete is laid on top wooden logs. The space formed between them must be covered with expanded clay or polystyrene. If the garage has a basement or cellar, then loose insulation is poured in, and a reinforcing mesh is placed on top. This is done for additional insulation of the basement ceiling.

There is also a bulk floor. It is a very durable coating and is in no way inferior to concrete. The main advantage is a completely flat surface. Its only drawback is the high cost. Therefore, most still prefer the concrete surface.

wall decoration

Sheathing the walls in the garage is more time-consuming work than laying the floor. For their finishing, you can use materials such as drywall, tile, OSB, lining, as well as plaster.

The most affordable option is plaster walls. After all, with its help you can not only level the surface, but also protect them from fire or temperature changes. This type of finish suitable for walls made of foam blocks or aerated concrete.

In order to make the plastering of the surface even, it is necessary to set up beacons. However, this process is very time consuming and requires additional skills in the work.

In the garage there is not only a car, but a number of things that will be required for its maintenance. It is important to arrange them so that they do not interfere with or threaten the safety of the vehicle. This will help the correct organization of the storage system.

To clean up the garage, you will need to install additional furniture. For example, shelving. They are a great help in this process. They can be made from different materials: metal, plastic. Differ in size and other design features. This makes it possible to pick it up for any garage design: large, small.

The garage must be kept clean and tidy.

Mosaic floor tiles are perfect for finishing a garage

The rack is a design with shelves that have different widths. You can put tools, accessories and other attributes on them. It is quite convenient if their height can be independently adjusted. This will allow you to store items of various sizes. They must be placed around the perimeter. Thus, they will take up a minimum of space, and the benefits from them will be enormous.

The following elements are well suited to organize such a system.

  • Shelves. They are placed on the wall, so they require a minimum of space. Convenient to use and easy to manufacture. The walls will first need to be leveled and plastered. Place shelves at different heights. It is considered optimal above the level of the chin, as it is most comfortable.
  • Shields for tools. They are easy to use, as all the tools are visible and it will not be difficult to find the one you need.
  • Perforated plates. Holders are attached to them, which differ in their length. They are well suited for placing garden tools, ladders and more. Also on such plates it is possible to fix hooks on which clothes, ropes, hose are hung.

How to create a beautiful garage interior inside

Basically, when building a garage, special attention is paid to its appearance. Of course, this is important, but do not forget that indoors. Since it will be gloomy and not presentable. The plaster on the walls, the concrete floor, which are shown in the photo below, are unlikely to help get a cozy atmosphere. It is not comfortable even for the owner to be in the room. It depresses and spoils the mood.

Although the garage is non-residential premises, its internal arrangement also requires attention and costs. The RMNT website will tell you what you can sheathe, finish the garage from the inside, what materials you can choose. We will pay special attention to the pros and cons of each possible option.

To begin with, let's figure out what criteria a material suitable for the interior lining of a garage should meet:

  1. Resistance to low temperatures. The garage is usually not heated, so the material for the inner lining must calmly endure temperature changes, not be afraid of their decrease;
  2. Sufficiently high strength. In the garage, car repairs are often carried out, during which you can accidentally hit the wall. In addition, wheel mounts, for example, and other storage systems for all kinds of items can hang on the walls. That is, the material should not deform due to gravity;
  3. Chemical resistance. Fuel and lubricants are stored in the garage, if repairs are carried out using paint or acid, they can get on the walls, so you should choose a material that is less afraid chemical substances;
  4. It is highly desirable to choose a fireproof material, because fuel and lubricants and the car itself are sources of ignition risk;
  5. Ease of maintenance. You will not carry out general cleaning garage with walls washed every month! Sheathing material should not absorb odors, it should be easy enough to wash;
  6. provide for the possibility cosmetic repairs. If the garage sheathing has been damaged, it should be possible to easily replace the area, repair or repaint.

Now let's talk specifically about each type of material that is suitable for interior cladding, garage decoration.

Option one - PVC panels

The advantages of using PVC panels for sheathing a garage from the inside include:

  • Affordable material price. A great option for those who do not want to spend a lot of money;
  • Easy to install, you can handle it yourself and in a short time;
  • Moisture resistant. This is especially important if condensation may appear in the garage in winter;
  • There is no need to paint, varnish, somehow decorate;
  • It is easy to hide the insulation under the plastic panels to get a warmer garage;
  • Easy to repair - only the damaged panel needs to be replaced;
  • PVC panels weigh little, that is, there will be no significant load on the structural elements of the building.

But the disadvantages of PVC panels in the garage are also quite a few, and they are quite serious:

  • Easy to damage. Plastic panels are afraid of impacts, break easily, crack, dents appear;
  • Poorly tolerate temperature changes, can be deformed during winter frosts. True, there are panels that are specifically designed for facades, but they are significantly more expensive, which eliminates one of the advantages we have listed.

But as for the combustibility of PVC panels, they fully meet our criteria. In order for them to ignite, the temperature must exceed +391 ° C.

Option two - lining

The portal site has already written in detail about the features of the lining. From the point of view of use for garage sheathing, this material has several advantages:

  • Ecological purity. Wood, what else to say;
  • Long service life;
  • Attractive texture, nice appearance;
  • Installation is also quite simple;
  • Not afraid of temperature changes, often used, for example, in the arrangement of balconies and loggias;
  • The price is affordable;
  • Sufficiently high strength, resistance to mechanical stress.

Of course, lining as a material for sheathing a garage has its drawbacks:

  • If antiseptics were not used, problems are possible due to high humidity and pests;
  • The tree is on fire, and in the garage - this is an increased risk. Need flame retardants;
  • It is difficult to clean dirt from the lining, the lining will have to be varnished so that it does not absorb foreign substances, for example, the same machine oil.

Option three - OSB boards (OSB)

Approximate particle boards (OSB or in English abbreviation OSB) are also a fairly common choice for sheathing garages. Their benefits include:

  • Durability;
  • The ability to endure temperature extremes;
  • Not afraid of mold;
  • moisture resistance;
  • Very presentable appearance, if desired, can be painted.

Cons of OSB for finishing a garage:

  • It burns because it is based on chips, that is, wood;
  • It is necessary to check what is the content of formaldehyde, which can be harmful to health;
  • Heavier than all of the above materials.

Option four - plaster

This is not a skin, as in the previous three cases, but a finish. Suitable for garages made of bricks, gas blocks, cinder blocks, and other block materials. The advantages of plastering inside the garage include:

  • Cheapness and availability;
  • The ability to do everything with your own hands;
  • The ability to update and decorate the surface, maintain it in good condition;
  • Ecological cleanliness;
  • incombustibility;
  • Resistance to mechanical stress and frost;
  • No crate is needed, so finishing will slightly reduce the useful area of \u200b\u200bthe garage.

Cons of plastering inside the garage:

  • You can do the finishing only at a positive temperature;
  • The absence of a crate is not only a plus, but also a minus - there is nowhere to hide a layer of insulation;
  • Aligning the walls with plaster is a time-consuming and skill-intensive process, the panels are easier to install.

Option five - ceramic tiles

The advantages of this material are undeniable:

  • Beauty;
  • Durability;
  • Ease of care;
  • Resistance to pollution and chemicals;
  • Fire resistance.

However, ceramic tiles have disadvantages:

  • It is expensive, especially in comparison with PVC panels and OSB boards;
  • beats;
  • The installation process is quite complex and lengthy;
  • Big weight.

The choice, of course, is yours. We just listed the materials that most owners choose to equip their garages. If you have other options, please suggest in the discussion of the article.

Every car owner wants his garage to be not only a home for the car, but also a well-equipped workshop. The main association with the word garage is a place where it is not very clean and smells of gasoline. But thanks to modern materials, the garage can be transformed without any effort.

It is also necessary that the cladding be resistant to chemical elements..

To determine which one is best suited, you need to consider them in more detail.

Concrete

Most often, concrete is used for such premises. After all, he is better than others on walls made of brick or aerated concrete. It has great strength, is not afraid of fire, if necessary, repairs can be easily carried out on a concrete surface.

If the surfaces are uneven or you need to insulate the room, you can attach it using a metal frame. However, this option will take a little space and the room will decrease in size. For the garage, it is better to take fire-resistant and moisture-resistant drywall, which has a gray-green color and red markings.

GKLVO has many advantages. These include relatively low weight, ease of installation work, low price.

After all, high-quality tiles are distinguished by water resistance and fire resistance.

Wood panels are susceptible to insect attacks, flammable and moldy, and are expensive.

The advantages of plastic panels include qualities such as light weight, the ability to endure temperature changes, the possibility of doing installation work with your own hands without the involvement of specialists. Also, these panels have a low price and a large selection of colors.

The disadvantages include that they are flammable and very fragile.

OSB

OSB sheets are made up of layers of wood shavings that are large in size. For a bunch, resins of trees from needles or formaldehydes are used.

Sheets are divided into several types. OSB-3 is of high quality and has high moisture resistance. However OSB-4 is considered more durable Moreover, it can be used for interior and exterior decoration. It is not afraid of temperature changes, has a long service life, good sound insulation. However, it also has a strong flammability.

Modular coverage

A completely new type of finishing material - plates consisting of PVC or rubber. You can lay them not only in the garage, but also on the site adjacent to it.

Modular plates have a lot of positive feedback. They can withstand any, even very low temperatures, are easy to install, and have high strength.

Stone

Often, natural or artificial stone is used for facing garages. This finish looks very beautiful, besides, it is not afraid of weather conditions, humidity, or fire. However, its price is too high.

Floor device

Very often, people need a garage only to store the car, and therefore the presence of a viewing hole is not necessary.

Before laying it, it is necessary to treat the concrete coating with a primer, which does not allow absorbing moisture from the adhesive, and only then proceed with laying the tiles.

If the floor requires insulation, it is necessary to make flooring from boards. To do this, wooden logs are laid on top of the concrete.

This type of finish is suitable for walls made of foam blocks or aerated concrete.

In order to make the plastering of the surface even, it is necessary to set up beacons. However, this process is very time consuming and requires additional skills in the work.

There is another option - ceramic tiling. Its main advantage is durability. Also, such material is not afraid of mold, which often appears on the walls after a couple of years.

Starting finishing, it is necessary to check that the wall surfaces are even. If not, then you need to plaster them or cover them with tile adhesive and after that proceed with laying the tiles.

A more common way to finish walls is drywall or wall paneling.. To implement it, you need to pick up a crate, which can be both wooden and metal. If it's wood then before installation work, the tree must be treated with an antiseptic. This is done to protect the frame from rot and from rodents.

Then sheets of one or another material are separately attached to it. Insulation is placed between the slats of the lattice in the free space. You can use mineral wool or foam. However the thickness of the insulation should not exceed the thickness of the rails.

The next step is the installation of the vapor barrier. It can be foil or ordinary plastic film. Then the installation of drywall or wall paneling is performed. The first material is fastened with self-tapping screws, and the lining is thorn-in-groove.

Ceiling

Finishing the garage with ceiling lining. On its surface there is practically no physical influence, so any finishing materials are suitable. They can be the same as for walls.

Using lining or drywall, you need to take care of good waterproofing of the ceiling, without which the materials can collapse, as well as make thoughtful insulation.

If the ceiling is made of wood, then you need to use a waterproofing film, which is easy to install and also inexpensive. For concrete ceiling a special moisture-resistant plaster is suitable. After that, a heater is selected, which will not only make the garage room warmer, but also prevent condensation from appearing inside. This will keep the machine as well as the tools in the room in good condition.

The best way styrofoam is suitable for this. It is moisture resistant and also compared to mineral wool costs less. However, such material is afraid sun rays and ignites easily. The cheapest type of insulation will be a solution consisting of straw and clay. He quickly fits, he is not afraid of fire. The only drawback is that it is too popular with rodents.

If there is no need for insulation, then you can simply sheathe it with any panels.

Outer skin

There are many options for cladding the facade of a garage room. The most common are siding, wooden lining, sandwich panels. Also, for finishing the outside, a method such as jointing is often used. It is one of the inexpensive options. For contrast, you can use different colors of the mixture. This method adds strength to the brickwork.

You can also finish the garage with plaster. It will not cost very much, but if it is not visible from the inside, then from the outside, on the contrary, everyone will look at this “art”. Therefore, plastering must be done beautifully and efficiently. If a person does not have experience, then it is necessary to contact specialists.

With this type of finish, you also need to do wall insulation, in this case it is called a wet facade. To do this, insulation is glued to the walls, a reinforcing mesh is attached on top of it using a polymer cement mortar. And only then is the finishing with decorative or facade plaster. The last step is coloring.

Walls sheathed with siding will look great. In this case, you can not only choose the right color scheme but also to protect the premises from negative impacts. After all, it does not crack, does not become moldy, is not afraid of bad weather conditions and is easy to install, so you can do the finishing yourself.

Also today often used for building garages frame walls . Insulation is already laid in their structure, so additional thermal insulation of the walls is not needed. The thickness of such walls should be approximately twelve centimeters.

However, if you plan to build a second floor, then you need to make walls up to sixteen centimeters.

To install such walls, you need to mount the starting bars on the base of the base, which will be the basis of the frame. Before this, it is necessary to lay waterproofing on the surface of the basement. Then you need to attach the bars to the concrete using anchors at a distance of one to one and a half meters.

Then the installation of the remaining elements of the frame is done, while all wooden surfaces must be treated with a special compound. After completing the installation work, you can proceed to the sheathing of the outer side, which must be made with a gap for ventilation.

Sheathing can be done wooden clapboard . This material is environmentally friendly, however it must be constantly treated with antiseptics to keep it strong and of good quality. And it won't be very economical.

Another expensive option is artificial or natural stone . Such a facade looks very beautiful, plus it is not afraid of any external influence.

Starting to finish the garage, you need to think through everything in advance. This is the external and internal decoration of the walls, as well as the arrangement of the drain and ventilation. So that water from rain and snow does not stagnate on the roof, it is necessary to make it with a slope and attach guttersso that water does not flow down the walls.

Surely it will not be a mistake to say that for any car owner, a garage is a necessity. At the same time, it will serve not only as a haven for the car itself, but also for the owner himself, because it is so important for a person to have his own corner where you can retire or just read in silence, because at home it may not be very convenient to do. That is why the garage should not only be a solid building capable of protecting the car from criminal encroachments and the vagaries of nature, but also be quite comfortable and aesthetically attractive, without losing its functionality.

In this regard, the walls of the garage cannot be left in the form in which they will be after construction, so you need to think about how to sheathe the garage inside.

General requirements for finishing

Answering the question posed above, it should be noted that there are a lot of materials suitable for interior decoration of garage walls, a number of general requirements that must be met can be identified.

  • Mechanical stability. First of all, it must be taken into account that during the operation of the garage, significant mechanical loads will be exerted on the walls, so the material used for wall decoration must have sufficient strength to withstand them. We are talking about both resistance to impacts of solid objects, and punching.
  • Resistance to chemicals. When working in a garage, a wide variety of chemicals from gasoline to oils and acids are likely to get on the walls, so it is extremely important to choose a material that can withstand their effects. In addition, the walls will constantly get dirty, so chemical cleaning agents will be used to clean them, which, in terms of their destructive effect on the surface, will probably not yield to the most active reagents. This circumstance must also be taken into account.
  • Ease of maintenance. As mentioned above, the walls of the garage will get dirty, so, among other qualities, the material for their decoration should be easy to clean. In other words, it should be easy to clean and at the same time require a minimum of additional protective measures such as frequent painting or varnishing.
  • Aesthetics. Among other things, it should be said that the coating of the walls of the garage from the inside should be visually attractive. Still, this is a home for a car, and a lot can be said about a person’s attitude to things about himself.
  • Resistant to temperature changes. If we are not talking about a garage built into the building of the house and having a heating system that is the same with it, then quite significant temperature fluctuations can occur indoors, especially during the cold season. Therefore, the wall decoration material must have sufficient resistance to these differences, that is, not deform or warp. In addition, temperature changes are most often accompanied by the formation of condensate, so the material must be resistant to moisture.

The above requirements for garage wall finishing materials can be considered general, the rest can be determined depending on personal taste, economic or other considerations.

Ceramic tile

As one of the most suitable materials for decorating the walls of a garage, ceramic tiles can be distinguished. It has all the necessary performance characteristics.

  • Strength. To finish the walls of the garage, you can use tiles designed for floor covering. It has the best strength characteristics.
  • Fortitude. It implies the resistance of the material not only to temperature extremes and moisture, but also to contact with chemicals.
  • Ease of maintenance. Ceramic tile is easy to clean and is not afraid of moisture, which makes it quite easy to care for.
  • Versatility. Thanks to the abundance of colors, you can choose the right tile for any room.

It is also worth saying a few words about the fact that this material is quite expensive. This is worth considering. In addition, if there are no necessary skills for installing tiles on walls, then you will have to turn to the services of specialists, which also involves certain costs. Although, if there is a desire, then you can master the technology in a few days.

clapboard

The lining differs in simplicity of installation and attractive appearance. Installation takes place on top of a pre-mounted crate, which allows you to lay an additional layer of heat and vapor barrier. However, it should be borne in mind that this material needs additional processing, as it is sensitive to moisture and is prone to absorbing substances.

Note! If the lining boards are treated with special compounds, then this material becomes quite suitable for wall cladding in the garage.

Plastic panels

Thinking about how to sheathe the walls in the garage, one should not forget about plastic panels. They are easy to install and maintain, and they have an attractive appearance. Resistant to moisture and chemicals, and they are not afraid of temperature fluctuations.

Note! Plastic panels have low mechanical strength, which must be taken into account when considering this material as a wall finish in a garage.

Wooden panels

As another material used for finishing the walls of the garage, we can mention chipboard and fiberboard panels. They are easy to install and perform well. At the same time, as in the case of lining and other wood-based materials, they require additional processing with special compounds that prevent pollution or moisture absorption.

In conclusion, the topic can be noted that there are a fairly large number of materials for finishing the garage. You need to decide how best to sheathe the walls yourself. Tastes, financial possibilities and basic assembly skills are different for everyone. But, as a preparation option, you can use photo and video materials presented for review on the Internet.

Video

This video will tell you about the plaster walls in the garage:

A garage is a kind of creative brainchild for a man. Often it performs several functions at once - a parking lot, a workshop, a pantry, and even a place for a friendly company to relax. Arranging a garage is a purely male occupation, but, like in every job, it also has its own tricks and nuances. Let's talk about this in more detail.

wall decoration

When choosing finishing materials for the garage, you should take into account the target features of this room. The materials must be non-combustible, since fuels and lubricants accumulate in the garage first of all, moisture resistant, resistant to damage and not absorbing dirt. What meets these requirements?

PVC lining . In a garage with a large area, you can afford PVC plastic panels. Such an installation takes up about 10 centimeters of space, but thanks to this margin, it is possible to insulate the walls of the garage with fire-resistant mineral wool.

Facade lining is waterproof, environmentally friendly, fire resistant and presentable, but does not have high strength. However, on the other hand, with such a finish, your car is not in danger of scratches. To give the room a variety of colors, alternate panels with different shades or use a lining with a laconic print.

Plaster . A plaster solution made from a mixture of sand and cement smooths out the visible unevenness of the walls. After grouting the roughness, it is necessary to apply a layer of facade paint. If the garage is very compact and there is only a little free space in it only around the car, try painting the walls with pastel, warm colors - this will visually expand the boundaries of the room. However, in such a garage you need to be doubly careful, as light surfaces will quickly become dirty.

Facing bricks and tiles. Today it is perhaps the best option for finishing. Such materials are durable and strong, quite easy to clean. At ceramic tiles big specific gravity, unlike facing bricks, so only strong walls need to be finished with it, where there is an additional packing of reinforcing mesh.

There is one more nuance when buying these materials - this is the price. Indeed, the cost of such a finish can significantly “hit” your pocket. But the result will exceed all expectations. For example, a combination of framed brick walls and a spectacular themed panel with a luxury car, lined with small tiles, will make an incredible impression on your friends.

Floor finish

The floor in garages is exactly the surface that is always in use. Therefore, it must constantly withstand heavy loads from the car and heavy objects accidentally dropped from the hands. At the same time, not a single chip and crack should form on the floor. Requirements for fire and moisture resistance, of course, first of all. Usually a modern garage floor is multi-layered.

Self-levelling mass of sand-based concrete with reinforced mesh in top layer and waterproofing is a practical and most commonly used garage flooring option.

Stronger, but slightly more expensive than concrete paving slabs on a sand and gravel dense cushion or road paving stones. For additional moisture resistance of paving stones, impregnants are used (special impregnations that have a water-repellent effect).

Alternative concrete mixtures– flexible polyurethane, epoxy or acrylic resins. Impact-resistant floor tiles lined with black and white checkers will look very stylish.

To avoid slipping, the tile should be slightly rough. It is better not to buy tiles with any pattern, as over time it will be very worn out and look not at all aesthetically pleasing.

Racks and shelves in the arrangement of the garage

Often, among the many suitcases, mezzanines, bicycles, there is even nowhere to park the car, not to mention sitting in the evening in a pleasant, friendly male company. Therefore, important details in the arrangement of the garage are not only the floor and walls, but also racks and hanging shelves for storing tools, household items and auto parts.

A frame metal rack located along the wall (and if the area of \u200b\u200bthe room allows, then you can put a U-shaped rack for three walls), as a true friend, will help to separate the necessary from the secondary. But first of all, it is necessary to revise the accumulated things and only then make accurate measurements of the width, length and depth of the structure.

The depth of standard structures in a hardware store is usually up to 1 meter, but this is often not enough, so many motorists prefer custom-made racks. In this case, the depth must be determined based on the dimensions of the largest item that will stand on the rack shelf. It can be a large suitcase, tires, etc. In order not to accumulate a lot of dirt, dust and moisture, it is better to drill small holes in the shelves. So, the tools do not rust and do not collect dust.

Leaving the distance between the floor and the bottom shelf of the rack about 30 centimeters, you will greatly simplify the wet cleaning of the garage, which now will not take much time.

When assembling a frame rack, it is better to use metal corner(30 by 30 mm) bolted or profiled pipe. Of course, welding can also be used, but this is not always profitable and convenient. Aluminum profiles for drywall are also not suitable, due to their insufficient strength.

An excellent material for shelves is moisture resistant plywood. It does not absorb moisture, is strong and durable. For enhanced protection, plywood can be varnished. Do not make the shelves of the rack too long, as the plywood can bend.

Of course, racks and shelves can be purchased at any specialized store, but such a purchase will cost you a lot.
