Roof sheet calculator. Calculation of the amount of corrugated board for the roof. Calculation of the number of ridge elements

Roof decking is considered a very practical roofing material that is convenient for installation. Before you get started, you need to know how to calculate the corrugated board correctly.

Calculation of profiled sheets

To calculate the required coverage area, you need to know that the working width of the profiled sheet is 110 cm, and the total, that is, its total width, is 118 cm.

To determine the number of sheets per roof, measure the length of the slope and divide it by the width of the profiled sheet, and round the result up.

In this case, it is necessary to take into account the overlap roofing material. To do this, subtract the working width from the total width, and you get 118 - 110 = 8 cm.

Then you can calculate the corrugated board, that is, the number and length of sheets in one row. For a correct calculation, it should be remembered that the length consists of the lengths of the cornice overhang, which must be at least 50 mm, the vertical overlap, which is 150 mm, and the slope. The minimum length of the roofing is half a meter, its maximum length is 6 meters. Profiled sheets should be placed horizontally on the roof.

Next, you need to calculate the additional elements needed to install the roof. Their standard length is 2000 mm. First, you should measure the lengths of all slopes where additional elements will be installed. Then add them up and divide the result by 1.9, taking into account an overlap of 100 mm. When calculating for the valley, you need to divide by 1.7, leaving an overlap of at least 300 mm. The result should also be rounded up. Counting the required number of self-tapping screws, it should be remembered that 7-8 pieces will be required per 1 m 2.

In the event that a roof of a non-standard configuration or with several slopes is planned, it is necessary to draw up a drawing in compliance with scale. A prerequisite is the determination of the area of each of the elements. To do this, the calculation of the required number of sheets and all elements should be performed separately.

Additional calculation requirements

The corrugated roof is mounted on a crate, which is made of boards treated with an antiseptic. Therefore, the calculation of the roofing should begin with wood, which should not be less than 20 mm in thickness. The crate should be laid across the ridges, keeping a distance of 20-30 cm. The amount of wood required for installation depends, firstly, on the length of the roof slope. And, secondly, from the installation step of the crossbars, which should be from 50 cm and should take into account all the loads and the slope of the roof, as well as the height of the profile and the thickness of the metal sheet.

Then you need to calculate the vertical and horizontal overlaps. The calculation of the vertical overlap must be carried out based on the profile, which must be made with overlapping waves, the pitch of which depends on the grade of the profiled sheet. When calculating the horizontal overlap, the slope of the roof should be taken into account. If the angle of inclination of the roof is 12-15 0, then the overlap must be made from 200 mm; at an inclination of 15-30 0 - 150-200 mm; at an inclination from 30 0 - 100-150 mm. In the event that the roof slope is less than 12 0, it is necessary to seal the vertical and horizontal overlaps with silicone sealant.

Be sure to calculate the size of the overhangs, which depends on the height of the corrugated profile. If the height is large, then the overhang must correspond to it so that moisture does not get inside. The amount of load on the profile that it can withstand directly depends on the height of its corrugations. The higher it is, the more loads. For the construction of industrial buildings, a profile with a height of more than 44 mm is suitable, and the crate can be made in increments of 2000-3000 mm.

When installing a roof in a private house, a medium-height profile with an appropriate metal thickness is suitable. The crate in this case should be done in increments of 1500 mm. Then the load on the coating can be up to 500 kg per 1 m 2. The smaller the profile height, the smaller the crate step is made, or it is installed solid. Such profiled sheets are well suited for roofing, which has a large angle of inclination.

Installation instructions for corrugated board

Required:

  • material for heat and waterproofing;
  • construction stapler and staples;
  • screwdriver and screws;
  • silicone sealant;
  • profiled sheets.

After the calculation of the corrugated board is completed, you can proceed with its installation. First with inside at home, heat-insulating sheets and vapor barrier should be laid. Then horizontally, starting from the roof overhang, you need to lay a waterproofing layer on the rafters. The gasket must be laid without tension with an overlap of 150 mm, fastened between the rafters with small staples. Further, for its complete fixation, it is necessary to nail a counter rail, the width of which is 25-50 mm.

A crate should be installed on the waterproofing layer, above which the upper end board is then mounted to the height of the roof profile. After that, you need to attach the end strips to the installed board. Profiled sheets must be laid, starting from the lower edge of the roof, overlapping. They are attached to the crate using galvanized self-tapping screws, at the end of which there is a drill complete with a washer and a rubber gasket. Such self-tapping screws can have a diameter of 4.8-6.3 mm, a length of 19-250 mm, and they can be screwed in without pre-drilling a hole.

It is desirable that the roofing material has a length that is not less than the length of the roof slope. In this case, the coating will not have transverse joints, thereby increasing the moisture-proof characteristic of the roof. If the purchased material is shorter than the roof structure, then its installation should be carried out horizontally from the bottom row up, that is, in an orderly manner. At the same time, laying must begin from the corner (left or right) so that the previous sheet of material is covered by the next. Be sure to join the sheets on the slope with an overlap of at least 15-20 cm, and the joint space is filled with silicone sealant for reliability.

According to the technology of installation of corrugated board for gable roof you need to start from the right end, for a hipped roof you should start from the highest point of the slope on both sides. Regardless of the complexity of the slope configuration, profiled sheets are laid parallel to the cornice strip, which is fixed with several self-tapping screws.

Between plank and roofing sheet a profile seal must be inserted. Be sure the size of the overhang for the eaves should be 35-40 mm. With any installation option, the main thing is to observe safety precautions and avoid damage to the coating.

They gained popularity among consumers due to their undeniable merits:

  • low price;
  • light weight, allowing installation with low labor costs;
  • ease of installation;
  • high performance;
  • durability.

I must say that modern corrugated board has long ceased to be just a sheet of profiled iron.

Today this material is several layers of various protective coatings from polymeric plastic materials, which significantly increase its durability, protect against adverse natural and atmospheric influences, improve thermal, hydro- and sound insulation, and increase decorative properties.

Dimensions of corrugated sheets for the roof

First, it must be said that the standard profiled sheet marking indicates its main purpose for use in construction and the height of the wave, on which the load capacity of the material depends:

  1. C - wall. The number in the designation shows the height of the wave, which for a given species can be from 8 to 21 mm. It finds application as a wall facing material for non-residential buildings frame type: warehouses, sheds, garages. It can also be used to build fences and fences.
  2. NS - universal with additional stiffening ribs. It can be used both for wall cladding and as their structural elements. The height of the corrugation for this type of profiled sheet is 20 ~ 60 mm.
  3. H - carrier, increased rigidity, independently performing the functions of a building frame. It can also be used to make fixed formwork walls and ceilings concrete work. The wave height is 57~115mm.

Wave sizes

For roofing works a profiled sheet with a wave height of at least 35 mm should be used, that is, starting from grades HC35 and higher. At the same time, H grade sheets are used for the manufacture of capital roofs of a large area. For individual housing construction, HC35 ~ 44 grades are most suitable.

At the same time, a sheet with a higher corrugation height should be used where there is more snow and wind load on the roof. The methodology for their calculation can be found in Appendices D and D to SP 20.13330.2011 "Loads and Impacts". There you can also find maps of snow and wind effects in various regions of the Russian Federation.

For example, for the Moscow region, in accordance with the calculation using this method, a roof with a slope of 40 °, located at a height of 5 to 10 m, will have a snow load of about 125, and a wind load of 15 kgf / m². In total, this gives 140 kgf / m². For districts Far North this value can reach 600~750 kgf/m².

Width

should be distinguished overall and usable width. The latter is determined by the width of the corrugation for vertical overlap of sheets. Usually this value is the width of one wave of the metal slate. Modern profiles have a special form of extreme waves for overlapping sheets, and the mounting width is indicated in their marking.

For example, in the designation HC44‑1000, the last digit - 1000 indicates the useful width of the corrugated sheet in mm. In the technical specifications, one more number can be indicated, for example, 1044. It shows the total width of the profiled sheet.

Sheet thickness

The thickness of the corrugated board for the roof is usually 0.36 to 1.2 mm. On the one hand, the strength and bearing capacity of the material depends on it, on the other hand, its weight, as well as the price. Therefore, when choosing a material, you should focus on the optimal values. Values up to 0.45 mm are typical for economy class products. For use as a roofing material, choose a sheet thickness of at least 0.45~0.5mm.

The angle of the slope (tilt) of the roof of corrugated board

In the power triangle of the distribution of loads on the roof roof slope angles play an important role to the base line.

A sloping low roof experiences the main impact from the weight of the snow on it, and with a slope of more than 60 °, it can no longer be taken into account for any roofs. For angles from 25 to 60°, the weight of the snow load is assumed to be 70% of the maximum. But on the other hand, a steeper roof will be subjected to significant wind loads: with an increase in slope from 15 to 60 °, they increase by more than 5 times.

For roofs made of corrugated board, which have low snow retention properties, the load from it can be ignored starting from angles of 45 °.

Shed

Features of the shed roof system is that the entire amount of loads and counteraction to them must be fully provided rafter system. If in a gable roof the lateral loads on one row of rafters are partially offset by others, then in a flat shed roof there is no such opposition from corrugated board. Therefore, in order not to make a powerful truss system, a small slope angle relative to the baseline is usually chosen for this type of roof, not exceeding 30 ° C.

gable

The gable type of roof includes several of its configurations:

  • symmetrical and asymmetrical, with different angles of inclination or displacement of the ridge away from the central axis;
  • multi-level, or with longitudinal lights;
  • half hip;
  • broken attic.

Projects of houses with two pitched roof usually provide the presence of an attic or attic room . In order to obtain an acceptable height, the angle of inclination of the slopes is sometimes increased to 60 °, while strengthening the truss system to compensate for wind loads. But as the experience of many generations of builders shows, the most optimal range of inclination angles for a simple gable roof is 35~50°.

How to calculate the amount of corrugated roofing?

How to calculate how much corrugated roofing is needed? The simplest will be shed roof calculation. For him, you should know the total length of the side of the roof:

L = W / cos(arctg(H / W)) + S1 + S2 + 4 cm, where

  • H is the height of the ridge from the base of the roof;
  • W - base width;
  • S1 and S2 - the length of the overhangs on one side and the other. The length of the overhangs is usually taken in the range from 20 to 50 cm.

Dividing this value by the length of the corrugated sheet and rounding it up, we get the preliminary value of the horizontal rows of roofing. Sheets of roofing material are laid with overlap depending on the angle of inclination:

  • 20 cm - less than 15 °;
  • 15cm - 15~30°;
  • 10 cm - more than 30 °.

Total length of required material in a vertical row will be equal to, taking into account horizontal overlaps:

Lo = (R - 1) * 2 * P + R * Wm, where

  • R - the number of horizontal rows of profiled sheet;
  • P is the width of the overlap indicated above;
  • Wm - corrugated sheet width.

If the value obtained exceeds the total length of the sheets from the preliminary calculation, one more row of shortened sheets should be added, then re-calculation should be performed. It is not recommended to reduce the height of the horizontal row by significantly increasing the overlap of corrugated sheets - this will increase the total weight of the roof. It is better to shorten them in one row.

Using the same method, the number of vertical rows is calculated by dividing the length of the roof ridge by the useful mounting width of the corrugated sheet, taking into account vertical overlaps equal to the width of one wave.

For a gable symmetrical roof calculation of corrugated roofing is carried out similarly for each slope. The width of the base W is then divided in half. The calculation of the roof of a more complex configuration is performed by dividing it into fragments. Moreover, such fragments can be in the form of triangles, trapezoids, which greatly complicates the calculation. To facilitate it, there are specialized computer programs, both stationary and online, for example, on this site.

In addition to calculating the corrugated roofing, it is also necessary to calculate the number of additional elements: skates, gables, cornices, valleys, snow retainers, plugs, etc. It is determined by the roof structure and will be strictly individual in each case.

Properly designed roof- this is one of the foundations of a cozy and warm home, and, therefore, also a guarantee of a comfortable and happy family life its inhabitants.

High-quality and conscientiously made corrugated roofing is able to serve without special care and maintenance for more than 50 years, or, in other words, the life of a whole generation of the inhabitants of the house.

Profiled galvanized steel sheets - popular construction material. It is used both for sheathing walls and roofs of buildings, and for the construction of fences on an industrial scale and in private construction. The light weight of corrugated board and ease of installation allow you to work with this durable material on your own: without the involvement of lifting equipment and sophisticated equipment.

How to calculate the amount of material for a corrugated roof

Decking is used as a roofing material exclusively for pitched roofs. On flat roofs with a slope of less than 12 °, its use is impractical.

Stagnation of water on a flat surface quickly leads to corrosion of the metal. First, rust appears around the nails, in places of cuts, junctions, and subsequently diverges over the entire area of the sheet.

When using corrugated board on roofs with a low angle of inclination, one has to deal with rust problems, so flat roofs usually lay a soft roof

Even cutting profiled sheets is undesirable due to the occurrence of rust, so it is important to properly plan the laying of this material on the roof in advance. If you still had to cut the sheets, then the cut line must be hidden under the ridge sheathing of the roof.

When covering roofs with corrugated board, it is necessary to strictly observe the installation technique so that you do not have to frequently replace rusty sheets new

General rules for calculating the roofing profiled sheet

There are installation standards that affect the consumption of roofing material. This takes into account the features of the roof itself and the brand of corrugated board selected for coverage.

Roof configuration

It is important to choose the right brand of profiled sheet for a particular roof. The service life of a metal roof will depend on this. The parameters of the material are determined based on the angle of inclination of the slope (slopes) and the step of the crate. These include:

  • depth of the "wave" of corrugated board;

    The thickness of the metal and dimensions are reflected in the marking of the corrugated board

  • sheet thickness - decorative models are made thinner and with shallow corrugation;

    Decorative profiled sheets are used for wall cladding or are laid on a roof with a frequent crate and a large angle of inclination of the slopes.

  • the presence of additional stiffeners.

    Profiled sheets with a deep wave (for example, H-57, H-60, H-75, H-114) are made with stiffeners along the upper, lower or both parts of the corrugation at once

With an increase in the angle of inclination, both the roof area and the wind load on the material increase. But on the other hand, snow and water descend automatically. When installing a roof with a slope of 45 ° or more, it is permissible to use a thinner corrugated board.

Considering that flat roofs have to be regularly cleaned of debris and snow, and also to use thick corrugated board for them, which must support the weight of a person (and, accordingly, is more expensive), then the benefit of increasing the angle of the slopes becomes obvious.

Moreover, with a decrease in the angle of inclination, it is necessary to increase the horizontal overlap of the sheets among themselves, which leads to a decrease in the useful plane.

Table: dependence of the overlap of sheets on the angle of inclination of the roof

The same principle applies to vertical overlap: the smaller the angle of the slope, the more "waves" should overlap.

The overlap can be one or two waves (depending on the angle of the roof)

If you use galvanized steel in rolls instead of corrugated board, then horizontal overlaps can be avoided. After all, the running length of a galvanized profiled sheet is 3 and 6 meters, and this is not always enough to completely cover the roof slopes. But you can use decorative corrugated board with polymer coated: its sheets are made from 1.5 to 14 meters in length (often made to order). Only for the roof, it is advisable to choose models with stiffeners.

Some grades of polymer-coated profiled sheets are also manufactured in individual lengths at the factory.

Profiled sheet brand

Not only the durability of the roof, but also the consumption of material depends on the brand of corrugated board. Many calculations are tied to the brand, since the parameters of laying the roof depend on the rigidity of the material.

Table: dependence of the vertical overlap on the grade of the profiled sheet

Table: the size of the overhang of the eaves, depending on the grade of the profiled sheet

The normative document for the classification of corrugated board is GOST 24045–94. It stipulates the requirements for rolled steel from which the profiled sheet is made, as well as the dimensions, configuration and accepted marking of the finished product.

The wide distribution of corrugated board is due to the variety of shapes, colors and low price.

The initial letters of the marking of the corrugated board indicate the purpose of the product:

The carrier profile has a higher trapezium or wave and additional stiffeners in the longitudinal plane.

Some manufacturers use the letters MP or MK for marking. For example, MP-20 means a roofing profiled sheet with a trapezoid 20 mm high. The profiled sheet marked MK-20 has similar parameters, but a different form of corrugation.

The entire set of model numbers describes the geometric shape of the metal sheet:

  • the first number is the height of the corrugation in millimeters;
  • the second is the thickness of the metal;
  • the third is the width of the sheet;
  • the fourth is the length of the sheet in millimeters.

Example: profiled sheet model C-21. 0.45. 750. 11000. Decoding of markings:

  • profiled wall sheet;
  • "wave" height 21 mm;
  • steel thickness 0.45 mm;
  • sheet size 750x11000 mm.

When choosing materials for roofing, it should be understood that the division of metal sheets into universal, wall and load-bearing is very conditional. Usually, the shape of the corrugations and the thickness of the metal are taken into account, corresponding to the specific situation: the angle of inclination of the slopes and the size of the roof.

The following brands of corrugated board are the most popular in private construction:

Some designations inform about additional features of the design. For example, in the marking C-20K-1080–0.5, the letter “K” indicates a capillary groove on the edge of the sheet. With its help, additional moisture removal and ventilation are carried out.

For each type of product, there are rules in accordance with which roofing material is laid on the roof. The width of the profiled sheet is common and working. Useful are the dimensions that “remain” on the roof after overlapping the sheets: they are taken into account in the calculations.

Decking is produced not only with trapezoidal corrugations, but also with wavy ones (in the form of slate). Outwardly, such a coating looks attractive, but with a similar “wave” height, the bearing capacity is lower.

The absence of longitudinal stiffeners weakens the strength of the corrugated metal sheet

How many sheets of corrugated roofing are needed

The pitched roof geometry consists of rectangular, triangular and trapezoidal segments.

With all the variety of types, each roof can be externally divided into simple geometric shapes.

Their area is determined by formulas well known from the school course:

  • the area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying the length by the width;

    The calculation of the area of a rectangular section of the roof is made according to the formula: multiply the length by the width

  • the area of an equilateral triangle is half the product of the base and the height;

    Possible various ways finding the area of a triangle

  • The area of a trapezoid is half the sum of its bases multiplied by its height.

    To calculate the area of a pitched roof in the form of an isosceles trapezoid, it is enough to measure the upper and lower parts of the slope and its length

The total area is calculated by adding the area of all the constituent figures. Dimensions are taken taking into account the frontal and cornice overhangs. After that, the average number of sheets per row of the roof is determined. To do this, the width of the slope must be divided by the working width of the corrugated board and round the result up. With such calculations, the overlap is 80–85 mm.

Additional elements of metal roofing

Roofing installation requires additional elements, which must also be taken into account when calculating materials. These include:

  • ridge and ridge bar - prevent the penetration of precipitation to the insulation;
  • valley - for the descent of water and snow into the drainage chute;
  • eaves and pediment planks - cover the edges from flooding with rain;
  • end strips - are placed at the junction of the roof to the vertical elements: chimneys, ventilation shafts, etc.

Additional elements serve as additional protection, protecting the roofing pie from moisture.

To calculate the required number of additional elements, it is enough to know their linear dimensions. All extensions are mounted in stages and overlap by 10–15 cm. The only exception is the valley, where the overlap is 25–30 cm. Plugs are installed on the ends of the ridge on both sides, which prevent water from penetrating during oblique rains.

What is the consumption of screws per sheet of roofing corrugated board

There are norms for the consumption of fasteners per 1 m 2 of corrugated board, they are expressed in pieces or kilograms. The approximate need for screws is 9–10 pcs. per square meter of roof. So it is not difficult to calculate the total number of screws per roof: you need to multiply the roof area by 10. Moreover, this figure also includes the cost of installing adjoining strips, fastening aprons around pipes and snow retainers.

The color of the screws is matched to the color of the corrugated board

This allows you to use the fastening material as efficiently as possible and without sacrificing quality. But there are more detailed clarifications for installation:

Experienced craftsmen prefer to buy fasteners with a margin of 10-12%. This is due to the possible marriage of screws and losses during installation work. In addition, it is advantageous to purchase self-tapping screws by weight.

It is known that a thousand screws 25 mm long and 4.8 mm in diameter weigh 3.5 kg. Therefore, it is easy to calculate the weight of the required number of fasteners.

How to calculate the amount of corrugated board on a gable roof

A gable roof is two single-pitched roofs connected under one ridge. Therefore, the calculation of materials is not particularly different.

A construction tape measure is used to measure the area of the slopes

Consider the example of a gable roof with a slope of 45°. Size of one wing: 10x5 m (together with eaves and frontal overhangs). Profiled sheet grade S-8.

The total area of two slopes will be 2x (10x5) = 100 m 2. Since the working width of the C-8 sheet is 1150 mm, then for one row you will need: 10m / 1.15 = 8.7 (that is, almost 9 sheets). Number of rows: 5m/0.95m=5.3. Multiplying 8.7 by 5.3, we get: 47 sheets for each roof slope.

In practice, the consumption will be large, since it will not do without scraps. To find out exactly how much material you need, it is best to make a drawing to scale or use an online calculator.

The program for the calculation of corrugated roofing

If it is not difficult to determine the amount of materials for a single-pitched and gable roof, then when calculating four-pitched (hip, half-hip), tent and other complex roofs it is better to seek help from specialists. But you can use special programs. This will help to avoid errors associated with shortages or overruns of profiled sheets and other components.

Complex hipped roofs require accurate calculations of the entire roofing: flat and rounded parts

There are many such online programs on the Internet, all of them cope with the task with one error or another (for example: the Roofing Profi program; online calculators for a detailed calculation different types roofing software "Etalon", Stroy-Calc, reference portal "Calculator" and others). Each program is serviced by an experienced engineer who, if necessary, makes the necessary adjustments. The convenience lies in the fact that the robotic assistant models the roof according to the given dimensions, taking into account and reducing many factors within the framework of accepted building codes.

"Roofing Profi" is the simplest and most convenient program for calculating roofing from corrugated board The reference portal "Calculator" will help you quickly calculate the right amount of material for roofing Calculator of different types of roofing software "Etalon" offers automatic calculation of materials for roofing both according to one measurement and according to the finished drawing (with 100% accuracy) On the Stroy-Calc calculator, you can calculate necessary materials not only for the arrangement of the roof, but also for the construction of foundations, walls, fences and other Professional ArchiCAD program creates images High Quality with imaging engine AutoCAD professional software is a 3D auto-design and drafting system available in 18 languages

By entering the data on the dimensions of the roof on the website, at the output the customer receives:

  • a detailed report on the amount of material required;
  • a complete picture of the device and a list of components roofing cake: layers of insulation, hydro and vapor barrier.
  • linear footage of additional elements, including finishing soffits (decorative panels covering the lower part of the ledges and overhangs of the roof);
  • financial estimate.

Some calculators have options for selecting the thickness of the profiled sheet and colors. You can download them for your own use or carry out calculations online. Professional designers and builders use expensive and very complex programs: ArchiCAD (ArchiCAD) and AutoCAD (AutoCAD), with three-dimensional drawing and design systems, as well as a high-quality image rendering engine.

The calculation of the roof of corrugated board is not particularly difficult. However, by contacting professionals, you can get an assessment of a person with experience and specialized education, taking into account all options. An informed decision is worth spending a small amount of money, because in return the customer receives solid guarantees for the purchase of materials and components.

Decking is a widely used roofing material for both industrial and civil construction. Relatively low cost, light weight, manufacturability, ease of installation and good performance attract many developers. The most expensive types of profiled sheets are not inferior in terms of service life to high-quality metal tiles, but they significantly benefit in terms of cost.

It is explained simply. Metal tiles have large protrusions; to give such a profile, steel must have high ductility. For the manufacture of metal tiles, only high-alloy steel grades are used.

The metal profile does not have such a complex pressing geometry; accordingly, lower quality and cheaper steel is suitable for production. Due to the difference in materials, the cost of production decreases. All indicators of galvanizing, coatings with polymer paints and other additional surface protection against corrosion processes for both roofing materials are completely identical, and it is these coatings that affect their durability.

The calculation methods are influenced by the following indicators of profiled sheets.

How to use the calculator

The fastest and easiest way to calculate roof decking is to use a special calculator. Before starting work, you need to decide on the type and technical parameters sheets and roofs. The calculator will require the following input data:

  • sheet size, meaning not general, but only effective (working);
  • linear dimensions rectangular slopes and their number;
  • linear dimensions of triangular slopes (hips) and their number;
  • dimensions of trapezoidal slopes and their number.

The calculator has a simple program that allows it to determine the area of each geometric figure and sum them up. Professional roofers rarely use such calculations. No computer program can take into account all individual roof options, too many unforeseen factors affect the final calculations.

Such a calculator can be used with great care, and then only to obtain indicative values. It does not take into account the length of the sheets, and the number of joining points depends on this. The calculator does not take into account the angle of inclination of the slopes, and this parameter affects the width of the overlap, etc.

A practical example of calculating roofing material

You can calculate the number of profiled sheets using trigonometric formulas. But not every elderly builder can remember what arctg or cos are, where to look for them and what to do next with them. We offer the simplest method of calculation, in order to use it, you need to know only first-class arithmetic lessons.

For example, let's take the simplest and most popular roof - a gable roof.

Note that there is no difference between calculating the amount of corrugated board and metal tiles, roofing materials have the same laying technology, the same additional elements and fixing methods, identical performance characteristics. Slightly different appearance and price, but these parameters do not affect the calculation method. For a better understanding, the instructions give the dimensions of the roof, and in your calculations you need to use the parameters of a particular type of metal tile and truss system.

Step 1. Check sheet sizes. The manufacturer indicates the total and working width of the sheets. The working width takes into account the size of the wave overlaps during installation. In our case, the total width is 119 cm, and the working one is 110 cm. A wider wave will always lie on top, which ensures a tight fit. The upper wave completely covers the lower one - the probability of snow or rain entering the under-roofing space is excluded. The corrugated board does not have waves, it has only ridges located parallel at the same height, which somewhat simplifies the calculation process, there is no need to take this parameter into account when choosing a ridge element and wind slats. For a profiled sheet, you can buy strips with lower sidewall sizes, they cover a small gap between the roof and the crate.

Step 2 Measure the dimensions of the truss system. In our case, the distance between the two extreme rafter legs 11 m 67 cm, and the distance between the walls of the building is 10 m 60 cm. The house is quite large, the truss system must be made in accordance with all the rules, provide the necessary load capacity and rigidity.

Important. In order to reduce the amount of non-productive waste of corrugated board and facilitate roofing work, it is recommended to adjust the dimensions of the crate to the dimensions of the profiled sheet. This will not only eliminate the need to adjust the sheets, but also improve the appearance of the roof. It will be symmetrical, the screws will be located at an equal distance. Another problem of cut sheets is that the cut metal at the cut points quickly oxidizes. The size of the rust is not critical, the metal does not deteriorate very quickly. The problem is that rust is washed off with water onto the roof covering and forms ugly red streaks. It is impossible to remove them, iron oxides firmly eat into the surface of the coating.

Step 3 Count the number of metal profile sheets. In our case, 11 pieces are needed for the roof. × 110 cm + 90 cm = 12 m 19 cm. During the calculations, it was understood that 11 sheets with a working width of 90 cm are not enough, in connection with this it is necessary to increase the coverage by 9 cm and due to this, to achieve roof dimensions along the ridge of 12 m 19 cm. In this case, the overhang along the ridge will be 12 m 19 cm - 10 m 60 cm = 159 cm/ 2 = 79 cm. Finally, after choosing the best option the length of the roof ridge turned out to be 12 m 1 cm. Taking into account the dimensions of the sheets, the crate under the roof should have dimensions of 12 m 1 cm along the ridge and 7 m 97.5 cm along the slope of the slope.

Step 4 Mark the length of the ridge and transfer it to the opposite underside of the roof (cornice) at a distance of 7 m 97.5 cm. Carefully check the corners, they should be perfectly rectangular. If the first row lies unevenly, then all the rest will be steps. It is very difficult to straighten sheets by slight displacement in the floor profiles and is strongly discouraged by manufacturers. If they do not lie on the same line, then several problems will arise.

  1. The gaps in the places of overlapping sheets increase, there will be risks of blowing snow or rain. To eliminate the problem, it is necessary to increase the length of the overlap of profiled sheets, and this changes all calculations, increases the consumption of expensive roofing materials.
  2. In places of bending, the sheets touch each other not along the surface plane, but along the line. This situation causes significant loads along the lines, the thickness of the profiled sheets is not designed for them. As a result, the coating can sag in these areas, the protective layers are damaged, and oxidative processes are accelerated. In the future, leaks appear at such points, requiring repair of the roof.

The correctness of the angle of the crate must be checked by measuring the diagonals of the rectangle. If there is a difference, then only the cornice section of the crate can be shifted in one direction or another, the ridge section should always be stable.

Practical advice. Before placing an order, you need to talk with a representative of the manufacturer. It is required to agree on the length of the sheets, in some cases it will have to be changed depending on the possibilities of production and the difficulties of delivery. If you buy a finished metal profile standard sizes, then it is necessary to take into account the amount of overlap depending on the angle of inclination of the slopes.

Step 5 Calculation of additional elements. They must be ordered at the same time as the purchase of the roof. Most manufacturers produce elements of standard sizes with a length of one and two meters. For complete installation a gable roof will need such additional elements.

Name of the additional elementCalculation algorithm

In our example, the length of the roof ridge is 12 m 1 cm, you should buy an equal number of pieces plus one element in stock for overlapping. If the skates are two meters, then 6 + 1 pieces are required. For skates, immediately buy plugs of the appropriate profile and seals or special gratings that prevent birds and large insects from entering the under-roof space.

Installed at the bottom of the roof, designed to protect the crate from moisture. In addition, cornices perform a very important decorative function. The number is calculated in the same way as the ridge, but it must be borne in mind that these strips are attached to both sides of the roof, the total number is doubled. In stock for overlaps, you can take not two strips, but one. Of course, if the total amount of overlap allows such savings.

One side is fixed to the board, and the other to the wave of the sheet. The main task is to protect the roof from undermining by strong gusts of wind. Additional - to improve the design of the roof. The calculation is not difficult, keep in mind that the wind bars are screwed on four sides of the slopes.

The roof of the house is large, the snow load can reach significant values. It is recommended to buy tubular elements, they have a special rigid design for fixing and can withstand significant forces. Thin corner snow holders deform profiled sheets with considerable effort, and in some cases they can completely tear out self-tapping screws. Appear in the roof through holes needs urgent repairs. It must be remembered that repairing the coating will always cost tens of times more expensive than acquiring a reliable snow retainer. The number of elements is selected taking into account their length, they should be placed across the entire width of the roof, it is advisable not to take breaks between them.

This completes the preliminary calculations of the roof. You can multiply the number of elements by their price and get the cost of the roof. But not everything is so simple. Why? Because the price of a roof includes not only the cost of coverage, you need to take into account the full estimate of the construction and make the most complete calculation.

How to Calculate the Total Estimated Cost of a Roof

Some inexperienced developers quickly calculate the cost of acquiring metal tiles, add the cost of additional elements to them, and hope that for this amount they will be able to put up the roof of their house. And then, in the process of construction work, it turns out that the actual amount is many times greater than the planned one, there are great difficulties with financing the facility, sometimes it is necessary to freeze the construction site. Any temporary suspension of construction work due to lack of materials incurs direct, and considerable, losses. After the resumption of construction work, many elements have to be repaired or completely redone, and this is an extra waste of money.

In order not to get into unpleasant situations, you must be able to correctly calculate the cost of the roof. How to do it? For clarity of the example, we will take the real prices for metal coatings as of the summer of 2017.

Where does the calculation of corrugated roofing begin?

Usually the total roof area is calculated, then the number of sheets and additional elements is determined, the data is multiplied by the cost. For example, with an area of roof slopes of 200 m2 and an approximate cost of profiled sheets of 300 rubles / m2, it is determined that 60 thousand rubles will be needed for the roof.

To cover various unforeseen expenses, the amount increases by another ten percent, and the developer is sure that this is quite enough to equip the roof of the house. The amount is small family budget holds it without a problem. The more experienced will estimate the cost of lumber, and this is where the calculations end.

Is it possible to act in this way, will the received amounts match the real ones? Let's figure it out. Let's talk about which items make up the cost of the roof, what you can save on, and where you don't need it. There is a house with a pitched roof with an area of 200 m2, a metal profile of a budget option costs about 300 rubles / m2.

The roof is the cheapest bet of insulation, the attic is non-residential. We specifically chose this simplified version to find out the minimum cost of the work.

Step 1. Let's calculate the cost of lumber for the truss system. We will not count exactly to each board and lath of the crate.

Based on practice, about 9 m3 of lumber will be needed for such a roof, the cost of a cubic meter of boards of the first grade is within 7.5 thousand rubles. In total, after elementary calculations, we find out that 67.5 thousand / rubles are needed for the rafter system. for lumber.

Prices for different types of building boards

Building boards

For the construction of the structure, various fasteners are required, the amount of 5 thousand rubles. we also take from practical experience. This is the minimum cost of fasteners, but in fact, rarely does a master fit into it.

To this amount should be added the cost of delivering materials to the construction site, specific amounts depend on the length of the transportation. We will take the minimum price of 2500 rubles.

Delivery of lumber is another cost item

In total, at this stage you will need 67.5 + 5 + 2.5 = 75 thousand rubles. This amount is already starting to worry some developers, because they thought that the price of lumber does not have a noticeable effect on the roof, and during the calculations of profiled sheets they often did not take it into account.

Step 2 Roofing calculation. As we have already mentioned, the budget option of materials is being considered. During the calculations, the percentage of waste should be taken into account, and it will always be.

In our case, the roof area is 200 m2, taking into account the margin and complexity of the roof, you will have to buy approximately 232 m2 of profiled sheets.

Multiply the quantity by the price and get the amount of 69.6 thousand rubles.

To it must be added the cost of roofing fasteners (about 4 thousand rubles), as a result, an amount of about 74 thousand rubles is obtained.

As you can see, the cost of lumber for the truss system slightly exceeded the price of roofing. And at first it seemed that this amount would be about half as much and you could not pay much attention to it.

Step 3 waterproofing membrane. An unpleasant feature of metal coatings is the formation of a rather large amount of condensate on the underside of the sheets. To guarantee the durability of the roof, it is recommended to take it away, you will need a special membrane. Our roof requires three rolls of material with a total cost of 4.5 thousand rubles.

Prices for material for vapor barrier

Vapor barrier material

Step 4 Calculation of the quantity and cost of additional roof elements. It is necessary to calculate the cost of the ridge, cornice and wind slats, chimney bypass elements. The approximate amount is 16.5 thousand rubles.

Step 5 Now it's time to pay attention to one of the most significant expense items - the cost of services. construction companies. The price range is large, the minimum prices for which you can agree to build a simple gable roof, 500 rubles. per square meter. Our roof area is 200 square meters, the total cost of roofing works is 500 × 200 = 100 thousand rubles. They take separately for the bypass and sheathing of the pipe; together with the materials, this assembly will cost at least 10 thousand rubles. In total, you will have to pay 110 thousand rubles for the services of professional builders.

Now we can estimate that the approximate cost of the simplest gable roof with a budget version of roofing materials is within 280 thousand rubles.

Do you remember how much the calculations started with? From 60 thousand rubles. Inexperienced developers estimate the roof at this amount by eye. Keep in mind that in the calculations we did not take into account the cost of equipment and installation of a drainage system, snow retention. Roof not insulated skylights and individual outlets of ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Price drainage system about 48 thousand rubles, the price of the tape under the ridge is 11 thousand rubles, hemming the overhangs with spotlights is 33 thousand rubles, perforated tape to protect the ventilation ducts from large insects and birds is 4 thousand rubles. snow retainers 22 thousand rubles. In total, works that are insignificant in terms of volume require significant money - at least 118 thousand rubles. along with installation.

Prices for snow guards

Snow guard

What is the result

The complete construction of a roof from profiled sheets will cost about 398 thousand rubles, of which only 19% is the cost of metal plating. Most of the money will have to be paid for spotlights, gutters, tapes, films and other materials - 36%. Roofers will receive 27% of the total, and the truss system will cost 18%.

As you can see metal roof as a result, it requires the least finance from the construction estimate. But we calculated the cheapest and, accordingly, the lowest quality metal profile. Its service life does not exceed ten years. If you buy more expensive ones instead roof coverings the average price range, then the total cost will increase to 433 thousand rubles, and all the growth is only due to an increase in the price of roofing material. The actual increase in the estimate is only 9%. Now attention: the guaranteed service life of higher quality metal coatings increases by at least 1.5 times.

Conclusion. Only not very smart or very rich developers allow themselves to buy low-quality types of metal profiles for the roof.

Video - Installation of corrugated roofing

Anyone who starts building his own house immediately thinks about how much it will cost him in terms of financial costs. And this is the right approach. Purchase of building materials construction works, attracting transport and mechanisms - all this costs a lot of money. Let's add here the development of documentation (project and estimate). But experts assure that much of the above can be saved if it is reasonable to approach construction. For example, to conduct an accurate calculation of the amount of purchased building materials.

And since in this article we will be interested in the question of how to calculate corrugated roofing, we will consider it in terms of design features the roof itself. That is, what kind of roof according to the project should be built on your house.

Roof types

In construction today, eight types of roofs are used, on which corrugated board can be mounted:

  • Shed;
  • Gable, in which the slopes have the same size and shape;
  • Gable with different slopes;
  • Mansard roof;
  • Tent;
  • hip;
  • Tri-slope;
  • Mnogoskatnaya.

To make sure that such roofs exist, look at the photo below.

Why is it so important - the shape and number of rays. The thing is that each slope will be covered with corrugated board, which means that a separate calculation will have to be made for each of them. The first two positions do not count, because for a gable variant with the same slopes, the area of each will be equal. Therefore, the calculation of one will have to be doubled.

The most simple design roofs are shed, so the calculation of the required amount of corrugated board for it is easiest to do.

Calculation of profiled sheets for covering a pitched roof

Let's start with the fact that the sheets of roofing material themselves have two widths. This is basic and working. It is the working width that is taken into account, because the profiled sheet is overlapped on the roof relative to neighboring sheets, that is, its main width on the plane decreases. The deviations between the two indicators for different models of corrugated board are different, therefore, when making a calculation, it is necessary first of all to choose the type of profiled coating.

Attention! The greater the slope of the slope, the higher the roof, the larger the area that will have to be covered with profiled sheets.

In addition, it can be said that with such a high structure, the wind load also increases, but the snow load decreases, because snow does not linger on steep roofs.

But since shed roofs do not rise high, profiled sheets with a sufficiently large thickness are used for them so that they can withstand both snow and a person. But there is a certain minimum angle slope, which can be used under corrugated board. This is 12 °, so in any case it is written in GOST.

The angle of inclination will also affect the overlap of the two sheets with each other in the horizontal plane. So, for example, if the angle of the roof is up to 14 °, the overlap of two sheets will be 20-30 cm. The angle is 15-30 °, the overlap is 15-20 cm, the angle is more than 30 °, the overlap is 10-15 cm yes, at a low slope angle, the amount of roofing material increases.

All this, of course, additional indicators. The calculation is based on the area of the slope. In fact, this is a rectangle, so calculating its area is not difficult. To do this, you need to measure the width and height, and multiply them together. After that, the area is divided by the area of the sheet of corrugated board itself. To do this, its width (working) must be multiplied by the length of the panel. This is the area of the sheet. In the end, you will get an approximate amount.

In the event that the length of the corrugated board is equal to the height of the slope, then the calculation is simplified to a minimum. That is, the width of the roof slope must be divided by the working width of the profiled sheet. Of course, an integer in this mathematical calculation will not work, but it is worth rounding the final result to the nearest higher value. And this is waste, from which there is no escape in construction.

Attention! Do not forget that the corrugated board is laid on the roof with a small allowance of 30-50 cm, which forms the overhang of the structure.

This must be taken into account in the process of accurate calculations.

Calculation of corrugated sheets for triangular and trapezoidal slope

In some types of roofs there are slopes in the form of a triangle or trapezoid. The same principles for calculating the required amount of roofing material are used here, as in the previous case. That is, additional characteristics and conditions of the structure are taken into account. But here the area is determined by the purely geometric parameters of the slope. So, we have a triangle, and its calculation formula:

S=1/2*a*h, where a is the side of the triangle, h is the height of the triangle lowered to that side.

And since the overhang is the base of the slope in the form of a triangle, which is easy to determine and measure. That height lowered to the overhang is equal to the height of the slope itself. That is, it will be very simple to calculate the area of the triangular roof slope. And this will help the usual calculator.

It is clear that the value obtained in this way cannot solve the problem of determining the exact amount of corrugated board. It's all about configuration. Even in the highest place, the profiled sheet will not lie whole. It will have to be cut under the acute angle of the triangle. And these are additional expenses. True, some sheets will be cut in such a way that they can be used on the opposite side of the roof. And that's a little comforting. Therefore, experts believe that, when calculating the amount of corrugated board for a triangular roof, it is necessary to add up to 40% to the amount of material received.

As for the trapezoidal roof slopes, there will also be waste, but not as large as in the previous version. The area of a trapezoid is calculated by the formula:

S = 1/2 x (a + b) x h, where "a" and "b" are the bases of the trapezoid, in our case the length of the overhang and ridge, and "h" is the height of the figure, that is, the width of the slope.

To close the plane of the trapezoidal slope completely, it is necessary to add 15% to the resulting number of sheets (this is for material waste).

Attention! Installation of corrugated board on a triangular and trapezoidal slope begins from the middle of the plane in the direction of the sides (ribs).

In principle, all these calculations are not as complicated as it might seem at first glance. And yet they are not for everyone. Therefore, on the Internet today you can use a program that works like a calculator. They are called that - an online calculator for calculating corrugated roofing. The necessary indicators are hammered into it, mainly dimensional, which determine the plane of the slope. As well as the planned brand of the corrugated board itself. And in the end, the calculator will give a fairly accurate number that can be used to purchase roofing material.

Calculator for calculating corrugated roofing - program features

There are a large number of programs on the Internet that are used by both simple country developers and professionals - architects and designers. For example, if you need to calculate the amount of corrugated board for the roof of a bathhouse, garage or a small country house, then you can use a simple program that is very easy to work with. Everyone will deal with it.

But if a large and complex building is planned on the site, with a figured roof, then the calculator in this case should be used difficult. Firstly, it will be very difficult to manually calculate such a roof. Secondly, a simple online calculator will not be able to do this either, the error will be too large. For such designs, a multifunctional program is needed. With its help, you can get not only the required amount of corrugated board, but also the layout of profiled sheets. In addition, it can be used both under a metal tile and under an ordinary tile. There are many advantages to such programs.

For example, calculator "Profi". It seems to be a serious name, but it is not difficult to work with it. True, it is necessary to be able to read the drawings, in this case the drawing of your house. Yes, and the estimate with its complex calculations will not be easy. But you can deal with it too.

The program calculator "Roof Profi" can:

  • Develop a scheme for laying profiled sheets, taking into account all overlaps.
  • Calculation of corrugated board and additional elements.
  • You can change the values of the original data. You can access them except dimensional indicators, turn on specifications corrugated board, types of additional materials, the amount of overlap and even the price of products.
  • You can lay the shape of the slopes from the proposed templates or draw it in any other program and transfer it to the calculator.
  • Here, an estimate of the cost of corrugated board can be practically drawn up, if the prices of materials and the cost of contractors' services are correctly set.

To be honest, this is a small list of what can be done with this program. These are the main features. If you have not chosen the shape of the roof slope from the proposed templates, that is, you have drawn them yourself, then experts recommend drawing closed figures. No broken lines or unfinished sections. The thing is that the calculator will calculate only geometric shapes. If you make even a small mistake, then the calculation, the layout of the profiled elements, and the estimate will be incorrect. Therefore, be very careful about the task of the initial data.

Generalization on the topic calculation of corrugated board

The calculation of corrugated roofing is an opportunity to save finances that are intended for the construction of a building (large or small). It's a necessary part preparatory phase. Today, not a single object under construction can do without it, whether it be a bathhouse or a huge Vacation home. To approach the calculations correctly means to determine the required amount of roofing material. That is, reduce its waste. Of course, not on all forms of roofs this waste will be minimal, but it is possible to reduce it with the right calculation. And this is savings.
