How to fix the gutters to the roof of the house. The roof is already covered, but how to install gutters? Installation of a plastic gutter system - video

Installation drainage system is final stage roofing works, whose main task is to collect water flowing down from the roof slope during intensive snowmelt or rain. Every homeowner should be able to perform the calculation, fastening the drain to the roof, because only in this way can the wall decoration, the blind area of the foundation be protected from moisture. Ready-to-assemble kits, which are sold in hardware stores, greatly facilitate the installation process, so even a person without experience or any building skills can handle it. In this article we will tell you how to fix the gutter to the roof so that it lasts for many years.

The roof gutter is a structure consisting of a gutter, drains, and water intake funnels, which are hermetically connected to each other. It is installed along roof overhangs to collect and transport rain and melt water to a specially equipped place (storm sewer, ditch or container). To determine the number and size of drainage elements, a simple calculation is performed, taking into account the slope and area of \u200b\u200bthe roof slopes and climatic conditions in the construction region. Well calculated and installed drain performs the following functions:

  1. Provides an organized removal of melt and rain water from the surface of the slope. The liquid, flowing down from the roof, enters the gutters and plums, transporting it to specially designated places. If the house is equipped with a drainage system, during rain, water from the roof will not pour over bystanders.
  2. Protects the blind area and the foundation from destruction. Fastening the drain prevents water falling from the height of the roof from penetrating into the concrete of the blind area and foundation. Upon contact with water, microcracks form over time in the warping of the house; in order to eliminate these defects, large investments of money and labor will be required.
  3. Retains exterior wall finishes. An organized drain prevents melt or rain water from entering the surface of the facade of the house. If the calculation was performed correctly, then the liquid does not leave the gutter, due to which the walls retain their aesthetic appearance and integrity longer.

Note! Professional roofers say that all pitched roofs must be equipped with a drainage system. An exception can be made if the roof overhangs of the house exceed 80-90 cm and go beyond the concrete blind area of \u200b\u200bthe foundation. The drain must be installed for any area and slope of the slopes.

Selection and calculation

Before you attach the drain to the roof overhang, you need to choose a model that is best suited for specific conditions. Manufacturers offer an extensive range of components for assembling drainage systems made of plastic, copper, galvanized steel, they produce models with a round and rectangular cross section. In order for the drain to work as efficiently as possible, when choosing, you need to pay attention to the following aspects:

Important! The material and size of the gutter elements affect the price of the products. Plastic models are considered the cheapest, followed by galvanized gutters. The cost is also increased by additional features: dyeing, coating with polymer films, heating, filter installation. The diameter or number of elements that will be needed for installation determines the calculation.

Installation

After purchasing the gutters, it is necessary to fasten the elements to the roof of the house. It is produced during roofing work. The installation procedure depends on the design of the drain, it is described in detail in the instructions provided by the manufacturer. In order for the drainage system to serve for a long time, not to break at the most inopportune moment, the fastening is carried out as follows:

Note! After completion, they check for tightness of the connections, compliance with the slope. To do this, a bottle of water is poured onto the roof slope, and then they watch how it moves. If all the water has reached storm sewer roof drainage system is working correctly. If some of the water has remained in the gutter or leaked through the connecting seams, you need to work on eliminating the defects.

Video instruction

The ideal option is when the calculation of the drainage system is thought out at the stage of drawing up a general project: this will allow you to fulfill the technical requirements, according to which the installation of gutters is carried out before laying roofing material. However, it often happens that this procedure is carried out on a finished roof, which is associated with a number of difficulties.

In what situations the drain is attached only to the frontal board

Mounting the hooks of the drainage system only on the frontal board is possible in cases where ventilation of the under-roof space is carried out using special holes in the filing of the overhangs - the so-called. "perforated soffits". This is the simplest and most inexpensive type of ventilation, but its efficiency leaves much to be desired.

For a more complete flow of air, a gap under the crate is used. This implies a lower location of the frontal board and fixing the brackets exclusively on the crate. The disadvantage of this method is the risk of board collapse under snow load. The decision on the appropriateness of one or another approach to the installation of gutters is made by the owner of the house.

Another reason for installing drain hooks on the frontal board is to carry out the installation of drainage structures after the completion of the main construction works. A common situation when an unfinished house with expensive roofing is purchased: in order not to start a laborious procedure for dismantling it, it is easier to attach the gutters to the frontal board. The same algorithm of actions is selected when replacing the drainage system.

The third reason why the brackets can only be installed on the surface of the front board is the use of an anti-condensation waterproofing film. As the installation rules say, it must necessarily go to the overhang of the cornice, which implies the possibility of installing gutters exclusively on the frontal board.

Common ways to install a drainage system

Installation instructions for the gutter system involve the use of special mounting hooks. According to building codes, they can be installed on a continuous crate ( soft roof), on the surface of the rafters or on the outside of the windboard.

There are seven main ways to install a gutter:

  1. To the rafters. Some beginners count on being able to lift a couple of sheets of roofing material to secure the hooks to the batten after the roofing work is completed. However, as practice shows, this is not so easy to do, because you have to dismantle several rows of roofing screws. As a result, ugly holes remain in the places where they were installed, which will need to be covered with patches.
    To get out of the situation, the lining of the boards on the roofing material is used, which avoids its deformation when removing and unscrewing the screws. Concerning slate roofs, then special wooden inserts are used there directly into the waves of the material: they are machined in advance, exactly according to the profile. In this case, a through fastening of the drain through a slate sheet and a wooden insert is used.
  2. On the front board. The simplest method of mounting mounting brackets to an already completed roof is to install them on the surface of the windboard. At the same time, the frontal board itself is often designed as a separate decorative element. Metal roofs are best equipped with steel short hooks, mounted on metal strips. If we are talking about a light gutter made of plastic, then an ordinary wooden windboard can serve as the basis for fixing it.
  3. With the help of crutches. There are situations when the frontal board is completely absent. The way out of this state of affairs can be the installation of special crutches made of metal or wood into the wall. They will act as a mounting base for the gutters, which in this case are mounted on studs or beams.
  4. Support brackets. Small adjoining buildings are allowed to be equipped with brackets on supports or other devices.
  5. Stealth brackets. Fasteners are offered for sale, which are almost invisible after installation. It's all about the direction of fixation: in this case, it is carried out from above. The installation step of such structures should not exceed 40-70 cm, in order to avoid deformation under the influence of snow and ice loads. If the brackets provide for fastening to the crate or top of the rafters, they are bent to the shape of the roof slope.
  6. Adjustable fasteners. This is an innovative development that allows, by tightening the screws, to adjust and adjust the brackets for a particular angle of inclination of the roof. This will eliminate the need to check the bend radius for each individual fastener. Such a product consists of two main moving parts: they are positioned relative to each other, depending on the required fixation height.
  7. Installation directly on the surface of the roofing material. On sale are expensive fastening structures that allow the installation of gutters in the most difficult situations when a fragile or corrugated coating is used. It is important to understand that this approach to installation is only allowed to be taken in areas with a low level of rainfall.

As a result, we can say that the degree of reliability of fastening directly depends on the correct installation of the gutter. It should be understood that the drain is not designed to effectively withstand the snow load: this is the task of snow retainers and special heating cables.

Closer consideration requires the technology of installing the gutter hooks of the gutter system on the finished roof.

Calculation of the required number of hooks, gutters, pipes

To calculate the required number of drainage elements, the formula (B + H / 2) x C is used

Explanation of designations:

  • B is the horizontal distance between the overhang and the ridge.
  • H is the height.
  • C is the length of the roof.

All parameters are indicated in meters.

The order of installation of drainage elements on the surface of the windboard:

  1. On the surface of a previously mounted board, a horizontal line is marked at the most high section gutters. For these purposes, it is convenient to use a laser level.
  2. The resulting marking is transferred to the entire length of the gutter. In this case, a slope of 3-5 mm should be taken into account. running meter drain.
  3. Next, the numbering of all fastening hooks is carried out. When marking, it is important not to forget the slope of the gutter. To change the radius of the hooks, a special hook bender is used.
  4. The first step is to mount the first and last hooks. Next, a cord should be pulled between them: it should be at the very bottom of the gutter. Using the resulting guide, it is quite simple to install the rest of the fasteners.
  5. When determining the location of the funnels at the ends of the gutters, their size is taken into account: the funnel must be attached to the surface of the board, and circle its outline with a pencil. A 45 mm edging is left between the edge of the contour and its center. To cut a hole, use a regular hacksaw or special scissors for metal.
  6. The finished frames are bent outward, inserting the gutters into each other. It is necessary to observe the correct putting on of the front parts of the gutter: in this case, the spout should be in the curl itself.

Correct positioning of gutters and funnels

The gutter is mounted with the following sequence:

  • First you need to install a funnel and nearby gutters.
  • The edges of the gutters are fixed with self-tapping screws to the surface of the windboard.
  • The fastening of the funnel and the gutter continues until their profiles completely match.
  • You should carefully check the degree of slope and the location of the fasteners.
  • Next, the profile of the gutters is installed on the brackets, followed by docking. To close the empty ends, special plugs are included in the package.
  • Funnels and pipes in the wall are connected with bends.
  • After that, you need to install the pipe bracket.
  • At the end, the marking of the direction of installation of the drain is carried out, for the installation of vertical parts of the structure.

The connection of modern metal drains occurs with the help of sealing clamps. To connect plastic drains, latches on the clamps can be used, rubber seals and cold welding. During these procedures, it is important not to forget about linear expansion compensation.

You can also use special grids for the drainage system to clean the flowing water from various debris that falls on the roof surface from nearby trees (branches, leaves, needles). In the event of blockages, drainpipes begin to clog, which in winter time fraught with freezing of water inside the drains, with the threat of their rupture.

How to install and fix downpipes - instructions

First of all, you need to decide on which wall it is better to install them, and what method of fastening will be optimal in this case:

  • On the surface of three-layer walls, only the upper front layer can be used for fixing brackets. With its thickness of 90 mm, the anchor is set to a depth of 60 mm. A layer thickness of 120 mm will require a deepening of 80-90 mm.
  • Drilling of double-layer walls is recommended to be carried out upon completion of its finishing: the depth of the holes is 60-90 mm. When immersing the dowel, it must enter the second layer of insulation, after which it is allowed to screw the fastener.
  • On a single-layer wall, the bracket is fastened with screws or expansion dowels, with an immersion depth of more than 60 mm.
  • In the case of wooden frame walls the holder should be fixed with self-tapping screws. For fixation in this case, it is convenient to use a sharp rod of great length.

It is best if the installation of vertical fasteners of the drainage system is carried out during the construction of walls.

Features of mounting pipes to the wall

If installation is carried out on finished walls, the following rules should be observed:

  1. Installation of downpipes is carried out only from below.
  2. Mounting holes should be small in diameter.
  3. The drain pipe and the wall surface must be separated by a certain distance.
  4. To protect the foundation from water flowing under it, a cut drain elbow is installed below.

Brick walls are equipped with plastic dowels, into which screws fastened with a clamp are screwed. Mounting on wooden walls is more convenient with special rods or plates with self-tapping screws.

How a vertical gutter system is attached:

  1. Couplings are used to connect pipes.
  2. When the lower tube is inserted, a gap is left.
  3. Mounting of the holder with a trunk is made under the coupling. Tees are mounted in the same way.
  4. At the end of the procedure, the lower outlet and the pipe are fixed.

It is advisable to place the corner pipe closest to the cornice overhang at a distance of 150 mm from the corner of the building.

Installation of gutters

Before installing the horizontal part of the drain, which is a series-connected gutters, you need to measure the total length of the eaves and mark the places where the brackets will be fixed. The distance between the brackets should not be more than 60 centimeters. If you have doubts about the strength of the design of the plastic gutter, then fasteners can be placed even after 30 centimeters, this will make the system even more durable and will not allow it to collapse in heavy rain or a lot of snow.

Then you need to determine the angle of inclination of the horizontal part of the system. To do this, you need to determine the position of the first and last brackets, and then stretch the cord between them. Following this, you need to make markings for fixing the remaining brackets, observing the interval of their placement.

The installation process of the gutter should begin from their edges, at the same time it must be taken into account that the vertical part of the drain pipe should be no further than 15 centimeters from the nearest mount.

Advantages of PVC over metal for drainage systems

Gutters for roofs of houses are made from various materials:

  • polyvinyl chloride;
  • steel with anti-corrosion galvanization;
  • metal coated with polymers;
  • copper;

The choice of a plastic gutter base is more optimal for several reasons, the main of which are: lower load on the structure of the house and lower cost.

Many people believe that metal is much stronger and more durable than PVC, but modern technologies create a modified and reinforced plastic that can function properly in constantly changing weather conditions. Companies with their own production, including Alta Profile, add modifiers to the composition of polyvinyl chloride, which seriously increase the stability of the plastic. The advantages of plastic gutters Alta profile are many:

Wide temperature range. Plastic parts are specially designed to withstand large drops.

This is very important for the climate of Russia, when the heat is suffocating in summer, and the frost in winter is crackling and penetrating. PVC from the company Alta profile retains its qualities from minus to plus 50 degrees Celsius

Important. You can be sure that in summer time the drain will not melt, and in winter it will not burst

High strength characteristics. Naturally, PVC is inferior to metal in this regard, but this technological material easily withstands the loads that are placed on the drain during operation. If you install all the details of the system correctly, then the plastic drain will not be afraid of heavy melted snow falling from the roof in the spring.

Durability. In this indicator, polyvinyl chloride outperforms metal - if under atmospheric conditions, with regular contact with water, metal parts, even galvanized ones, last about 7-8 years, plastic drains - about 25 years.

Low weight of the entire structure

This is important because the greater the load on bearing walls and the foundation of the house, the faster they collapse. Given the weight of the entire roof (rafter system, roofing material), it makes sense to choose a drainage system made of plastic

Tightness. For a quality drainage system, this is of high importance. The absence of leaks prevents liquid from entering the walls, the foundation of the building. Alta Profile company creates systems with effective insulation of parts - all elements of the drain have rubber seals that prevent the flow of water even through minimal gaps. Special sealants are also used, which additionally protect against water.

Excellent conductivity. Plastic pipes have a smooth surface, which prevents the occurrence of blockages - leaves and other small debris, simply do not stick to the inner walls.

Attention. The surface is so smooth that even the ice is not able to catch on

Low noise level. PVC is made in such a way that it is well soundproofed and does not create noise when rain is removed from the roof. This is an obvious advantage over metal gutters.

Easy installation. The whole design of the drainage system is logical. When buying a set of Alta profile, the consumer receives detailed instructions to install the system on the roof with your own hands.

Great look. A gutter is not just an impersonal mechanism for removing precipitation from the roof, now it is a design element that makes the house more beautiful.

What is important, it does not set off the architecture of the building, but emphasizes all the advantageous places. In addition to functionality, the system adds neatness and style to any home.

Low cost. This indicator is important for most Russian families, especially when building their own house, when the costs are already high. Plastic gutters Alta profile is an opportunity to purchase quality products at an adequate cost.

Description of the elements of the drainage system

Before describing the installation process on the roof, you should find out what the drainage system generally consists of.

Gutters and pipes. They are necessary for the collection, removal of precipitation. Gutters are installed at the edge of the eaves so that water from the roof gets on them. They are mounted with a slight slope so that the liquid does not linger, but moves towards the pipes. Alpha profile produces these parts with a length of 3 m or 4 m. The pipe diameter is 8 or 10 cm.

Water funnels. This part, which connects the chute to the pipe, directs the liquid down. There are two types:

  • internal funnels;
  • external funnels.

The difference between them is that the installation of the former is more difficult - they are installed directly into the roofs (if they are sloping or straight). If the roof is pitched under a fairly steep slope, gutters with external funnels are mounted along its perimeter, which remove precipitation.

Attention. Pitched roofs are accepted in Russia, therefore systems with external funnels are used in the field of private housing construction. knees

They are used to connect funnels and pipes, they are designed to ensure high-quality drainage, because they are made at an angle of 45 degrees. There are also parts with an angle of 72 degrees

knees. They are used to connect funnels and pipes, they are designed to ensure high-quality drainage, because they are made at an angle of 45 degrees. There are also parts with an angle of 72 degrees.

At the edges of the roof, where the direction changes, corner gutters are used, most often with a right angle.

Protective grilles and plugs. The former protect pipes and gutters from getting large debris into them, which can create an obstacle to removing precipitation from the roof, the latter are attached from the edges of the gutters to isolate the system.

At the bottom of the pipe, for more convenient removal of liquid, drain outlets are mounted - being at an angle, they drain water from the roof away from the foundation.

Brackets, clamps, couplings for attaching parts to the roof and walls of the house.

The most common mistakes in the installation of drainage systems

At self-assembly drainage systems, it is necessary to carefully adhere to the technical recommendations at each stage.

This will help you avoid common mistakes:

  • the distance between the brackets should not exceed 60 cm in order to avoid deflections at the maximum load on the drainage system;
  • it is impossible to pinch the pipe with clamps in order to give it the opportunity to expand or contract under the influence of ambient temperature;
  • if the geometry of the house contains internal corners in which a drain pipe can be located, which in the future is quite difficult to care for and carry out preventive actions, and there is the possibility of redistributing water flows from the roof, it is better to avoid installing it inside and move it to the outer corners or place it in the middle.

The presence of a drain ensures the drainage of water from the roof, protects the facade of the walls, but the final withdrawal of water can be provided by the arrangement of a system such as a storm sewer.

Construction forms

The easiest way is to make a gutter with your own hands from painted or galvanized metal sheets. You can give it a rectangular or semicircular shape.

Most often, round gutters are installed.

You can make a semi-circular shape with a rolling tool by cutting a piece of galvanized pipe. First you need to cut the metal sheet the right sizes. To give sufficient rigidity and structural strength, its edges should be bent and connected with planks.

Similarly, you can make round pipes with your own hands. At the edges of the sheet should be bent (make folds). Then connect, and then bend with a mallet. pipe rectangular shape can be done using bending machine or a simple rail. The elements of the gutter system, made professionally, look beautiful. They can be purchased and installed with your own hands.

The resulting gutters with a slight slope are mounted around the perimeter of the roof and fixed. Connectors cut from a steel sheet are used at the joints of the gutters.

The procedure for installing downpipes made of polymer

To install a plastic pipe system for a drain, you need to perform work divided into several stages:

  1. Initially, it must be taken into account that the installation of the drainage system must be carried out at a certain angle with a slope in the direction of flow in order to exclude the possibility of water stagnation.
  2. Details of fastenings of the drainage system must be mounted during the construction process of the building.
  3. Directly during the installation of the system, gutters for the drain are first laid, connected to each other and funnels are installed to collect water. Covers are installed at the ends of the gutters.
  4. After completing this step, the vertical part of the downpipe is installed to the catchment funnel.
  5. The vertical section of the drain pipe is attached to the wall on pre-installed brackets.

Features of installing a water drainage system

The gutter is fixed to the building and the roof using special brackets. As a rule, the rule is accepted, according to which the gutter is fastened every meter

When calculating downpipes, take into account the fact that every 10 meters of the gutters must be equipped with one downpipe with a diameter of 100 mm. It is very useful to know the area of \u200b\u200bthe roof, and even better its projection

This is due to the fact that a roof with an area of 100 m 2 with a slope of 30 ° will receive more precipitation than the same roof with a slope of 45 °. It has long been established by specialists in the construction industry that every 100 m 2 of a roof projection must be equipped with one downpipe with a diameter of 100 mm.

Downpipes are also fastened with clamps, only of a slightly different type than for gutters. Very often, buildings and structures have a complex roof structure that requires additional installation drainpipes. In this regard, when calculating the drainage system, experts take into account the presence of gables, ledges, bay windows and other architectural features.

One of the cheapest options for a modern gutter system is galvanized steel systems. They have good performance properties and long service life. The main advantage that distinguishes them from plastic systems is the preservation of all mechanical characteristics, regardless of the ambient temperature. Another important advantage is their low price and ease of installation. This makes it possible, even for people with average incomes, to independently equip themselves with a high-quality and inexpensive drainage system.

Especially often the question arises of how to fix the galvanized drain to the building. This can be done very simply with the help of special galvanized clamps and brackets available on the market. One of the design features of galvanized systems is the presence of a protective polymer layer under the paint. When this polymer coating is deformed, corrosion will spread very quickly throughout the damaged area. In this regard, during the operation and installation of galvanized elements, it is prohibited to use sharp objects and tools, as well as to carry out excessive bends and other operations that are dangerous for the polymer coating.

When choosing the color and texture of the drain, special attention should be paid to the color of the roof and facade of the building. The drainage system must harmoniously fit into the design of the structure and not spoil the facade with its appearance.

Otherwise, the drain should be hidden from the back of the house, which will optimal solution if you can not choose the right color. Using soft tiles experts recommend installing a plastic drainage system. This is due to the presence of a layer of mineral chips with abrasive properties. With large flows of water, it is washed into the drain, scratching the surface of the gutter, funnel and pipes, and this, accordingly, can lead to damage to the polymer coating and the development of corrosion.

Installation of gutters

Installation of gutters

To install the gutters of the drainage system, perform the following steps in sequence :

  • according to the results of measuring the total length of the cornice, the need for gutters is calculated;
  • the need for consumables is calculated in order to fix the drain to the roof;
  • make markings for the installation of fasteners of the elements of the drain;
  • install brackets on pre-designated places, taking into account the necessary slope of the gutters towards the funnels;
  • fasten gutters to the roof using pre-installed brackets.

It is important to know that in order to carry out high-quality markup, you must have the following tool: a tape measure at least 3 meters long, a skein of thread, a level, a pencil

What are drainage systems made of?

Nowadays, the most popular materials for the production of gutters are plastic and metal. Each of these materials has a number of undeniable advantages and several disadvantages.

In the near past, gutter systems were made exclusively from one material - galvanized steel. It was widely used not only for the production of pipes and drainage systems, but also for the manufacture roofing. Despite this, in recent years, galvanized steel in the construction market has increasingly been replaced by plastic structures.

The use of plastic products in the installation of drainage systems has several advantages. For example, the polymer can be molded into almost any color shape. This makes it possible, with the help of downpipes, not only to preserve the structure of the building from undesirable moisture effects, but also to implement any design ideas.

The designer himself can choose those plastic drainpipes that are best suited for the appearance of your home and will not stand out from the general background. Another important advantage of a drainage system made from polymers is their production in ready-made kits that can be easily assembled without the help of specialists.

It should be borne in mind that any ready-made set is usually more expensive than all the elements separately. You can save on this if you do not buy prefabricated structures, and make your own drainage system by choosing gutters and plastic pipes from the widest range on the construction markets.

One way or another, you need to know that a clear disadvantage of plastic drains is a weak level of resistance to regular frost and defrosting. It is necessary to think over the design of the plastic drainage system in such a way that the water in it does not stagnate and, most importantly, does not freeze in winter period. During winter thaws, snow melting can often be observed, while at night it is still quite cold in winter.

This can damage the polymer pipes and lead to the formation of cracks in them. Of course, in addition to the plastic systems that have become widespread in recent years, drainpipes can be made of other materials. There are gutters made of copper or other alloys on the market. However, often these designs are quite expensive and can seriously affect your budget.

With all this, the majority of Russians still choose a galvanized steel drainage system, due to their reliability and simplicity. Now there is an alternative solution on the market - metal constructions coated with polymer. They combine all the advantages of the two materials, excluding mutual disadvantages. But this could not but affect the cost of the product, these pipes are about 2-3 times more expensive than usual ones.

Drains from plastic bottles

Drainage out plastic bottles it's not hard to do it by hand. From the point of view of aesthetics, such a system will be inferior to those made from purchased elements and even from plastic sewer pipes, however, in terms of functionality, home-made gutters meet all the requirements.

According to the masters the best way bottles with a capacity of 2 liters are suitable for this purpose, although containers of 1.5 liters can also be used. The neck and bottom are cut in such a way that an even cylinder of the maximum possible length is formed. After that, the cylinders are cut in half and overlapped with each other. Fixation is provided using pieces of wire or a stapler. For vertical pipelines, the bottles are cut so that the cylinders are tapered on one side. By inserting the cylinders into each other with the help of the narrowed sides, a pipe is obtained. Funnels can be made from cut necks. Gutters from plastic bottles are attached to building elements using wire rings.

Scheme for the manufacture of drains from bottles

Horizontal gutters for additional rigidity can be installed on a wooden board pre-attached to the roof.

General rules for installing a drainage system

In order for the drainage system to work effectively, certain rules and factors must be observed.

These factors and rules include:

  • accounting for annual precipitation for a given area;
  • architectural and geometric features of the building, the roof on which the drain is mounted. So at a distance between extreme points roof (overhangs) does not exceed 10 m, then it is enough to install only 1 pipe to organize a drain. For larger distances, more than 1 will be required, which can be installed not only at the extreme points.
  • the material from which the roof and walls of the facade are made;
  • taking into account the characteristics of the material of the elements of the drain.

In addition, it is necessary to design a drainage system or make a drawing. This will allow you to correctly calculate the materials for installation, as well as identify the features of the drain at the initial stage.

Fixing the drainpipe to the wall

Gutter systems are needed to collect melt and rain water from the entire roof, thereby protecting the surface of the roof and walls of the building from premature destruction. When installing a drainage system, you will definitely come across such a thing as fixing drainpipes to the wall. The reliability of your entire gutter design will depend on the correct fastening.

Why do we need grips in the drainage system?

Gutter clamps are key elements fixing the drainage system. This element is mounted with a pin in the wall of the building, and pipes are installed there. It is intended to ensure reliability when installing vertical elements of the drainage system and the grip should not allow pipes to deviate to the sides under the influence of wind and other power loads. To prevent rusting, the pins must be made of galvanized steel or coated with an anti-corrosion compound. Drain pipes are installed at a distance from the wall from 30 to 35 centimeters. Convenient bolted connections provide easy and quick installation of pipes. Grips are of three types:

Pin grip. Designed for fastening drain pipes to brick and concrete buildings;

Grip hardware. It is intended for installation of pipes on wooden constructions;

The grip is universal. It can be attached to both wooden and brick houses. It is also used for buildings made of sandwich panels.

For installation, you will need to know the diameter of the drainpipe and the depth that is enough to attach the tong pin.

Why do we need clamps in the drainage system?

Clamps are used to attach drain pipes to the walls of the house. This is another name for the same grip. Clamps are made of metal-reinforced plastic or metal. Metal clamps are attached with one long hardware, and plastic fixtures have two attachment points. When choosing clamps, the following points should be considered:

Also read: Why water pipes hum

The depth of fastening of the hardware, which should be at least 50-70 mm;

The distance between the front wall and the pipe, since it is forbidden to attach the pipe close to the wall of the house;

The thickness of the insulation layer on the facade of the building.

Important advice! You should never fasten the clamp in such a way that its hardware is in the insulation layer, this is a very unreliable fastening!

Rules for fixing the drainage system to the wall

During installation, you must adhere to the following recommendations:

Pipes are mounted from top to bottom:

In the wall of the house, you need to make holes for attaching the pins to which the clamps are fixed;

Fasteners for downpipes are mounted under a certain slope;

When building a new home, fasteners are installed during construction.

When installing the clamps, you need to make sure that they do not cover the pipe very tightly, especially for a plastic drain, otherwise the plastic will expand or shrink with temperature changes, and cracks will appear on the pipes.

  • Fastening plastic pipe to Wall
  • Fixing sewer pipes to the wall

Mounting brackets

The correct answer to the question of how to properly fix gutters depends entirely on the type of system and the properties of the building itself. During the construction of the drainage system, the following installation options are used :

  • Mounting brackets in a horizontal plane on the roofing front board is used in the case of using plastic gutters.
  • In the absence of a frontal board, the gutter is fastened to the rafter legs. In case of impossibility to carry out this method, use special brackets, adjustable in height of the studs.
  • Quite often, installation is carried out with fastening to the bottom of the flooring or roof sheathing.
  • The downpipe is fixed to the wall with clamps (plastic or galvanized).

The choice of mounting clamps is carried out taking into account the following requirements :

  • fastening the clamp to the wall must be carried out with a hardware with a working length of at least 50 mm;
  • the depth of fastening should be selected taking into account the heat-insulating layer of the wall;
  • there must be a gap between the wall and the pipe.

You should be aware that when tightening the clamps, you need to leave a gap of 1 millimeter for possible thermal expansion of the downpipe due to changes in ambient temperature.

Downspout fixture

The installation algorithm for drainpipes has already been described many times on various forums and construction sites. You can use the method of mounting the pipe "from the top", or you can use the "from the bottom" option. Let's start in more detail with the first method of installing a drain.

  1. Initially, it is necessary to determine the place of fixation of the uppermost fastener of the vertical part of the drainpipe. Be sure to take into account the dimension of the pipe elbow and the width of the overhang of the roof eaves. In a situation where the water intake funnel on the gutter is located quite far from the wall, it is recommended to make a bend on the vertical part of the downpipe, which can bring it closer to the wall. For this, finished parts are usually used - knees with different angle and short lengths of pipe.
  2. It is necessary to fix the vertical part of the drainpipe no closer than 5 centimeters from the outer surface of the wall of the house. In this case, the bracket is initially installed on the upper section. Already from it, using a plumb line, a vertical line is marked along which the fasteners for the remaining sections of the drain will be located. The distance between the brackets on the vertical part should be about a meter.
  3. After installing the brackets, install a branch that will supply water from the gutter through the catchment funnel to the vertical part of the pipe.

At the end, you can proceed with the installation of this section of the drain. After fastening the vertical part at the bottom of the system, install the water outlet elbow

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the junction of the pipe and the outlet must be attached to the wall using a separate bracket. In some cases, the answer is not installed at the bottom of the pipe, and the pipe sends water directly to the storm sewer

Now consider the option of installing a drainage system according to the “bottom-up” principle.

  1. Initially, holes must be drilled in the wall for mounting the brackets.
  2. Marks are attached to the lower clamps (parts of the pipe with a cut corner).
  3. After the previous steps have been taken, you can proceed with the installation of the remaining links. Each part is attached with a separate clamp. If some section of the pipe is quite long, then special clamps should be installed for it. According to the rules, the interval between the clamps should be no more than 180 centimeters.

Manufacturers usually include all the parts that may be needed during the work to complete the drainage system kits. A manual is always attached to the design, after reading which you can understand how to properly install this particular type of drain. Models from different manufacturers may be mounted differently.

Choosing the location of drains and the necessary tool for installing a drainage system

The choice of a place for water drains is influenced by the length of the roof overhang. If the roof overhang is up to 10 meters long, one drain must be installed, with a roof length exceeding 10 meters, two drains are used.

The location and installation of drains depends on the type of roof and for correct installation with your own hands, you can use the diagram below.

To install a gutter with your own hands, you will need the following tool :

  • spirit level (hydraulic level);
  • hook bending tool;
  • rope, tape measure, pencil;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • rivet pliers;
  • cordless drill or screwdriver;
  • metal and rubber hammer;
  • ticks;
  • metal scissors.

Installation instructions for the drainage system

  1. Installation of the drainage system begins with the installation of hooks. Basically, they come in three types: short, adjustable and long. They can be attached to the bottom board of the batten, to the rafter or on top of the rafter. For each of the cases, apply different kinds hooks.
  2. Calculate the angle of inclination of the hooks. The recommended slope must be 2-3 mm/m. Hooks are placed side by side, numbered and mark the fold line. Further, using a tool for bending the hooks, they are bent according to the markup.
  3. The installation of the first gutter hook is carried out in such a way that the distance between the imaginary continuation of the roof and the outer side of the gutter is 20 - 25 mm.
  4. Hooks are mounted at a distance of 0.8 - 0.9 meters with an angle of inclination of 2-3 mm / m relative to the horizon. The installation starts from the edge of the eaves from where the slope relative to the horizon will go. The first and last hooks should be at a distance of 100 - 150 mm from the edge of the roof edge.

    If the hooks are installed not on the frontal board, but on the rafter or on the last bar of the batten, then grooves are made to align the surfaces of the hooks with the surface of the rafter or batten.

  5. If it is necessary to make a hole in the gutter for the funnel, then mark the desired place with a pencil and cut a hole with a hacksaw. With the help of pliers, the funnel is given the necessary shape, and the burrs are removed. The place where the metal is cut is treated with a special paint to prevent corrosion.

    The funnel is first attached to the outer bend of the gutter, and the fixing clamps are clamped from the inside. Next, the plug is installed on the end of the gutter using a rubber hammer or manual pressing. The assembled structure is installed on the hooks by pressing on each hook.

    If possible, elements such as: funnel, plugs and corners should be installed before the final installation of the gutter on the roof!

  6. The connection of the gutters occurs with the help of connecting locks. To do this, a gap of 2-3 mm is left between the ends of the parts to be joined. Sealant is applied to the rubber gasket in the form of three lines: one is applied in the center, the rest on the sides. The back of the lock is attached to internal parties gutters. Next, the lock is pressed towards the outside to ensure a snug fit of the gasket to the gutters. Snap the lock and fix it by bending the clamping terminals. Residues of sealant must be removed.
  7. When installing internal or external corner elements, it is also necessary to make a gap of 2-3 mm between the ends to be connected and connect using clamping locks, as indicated in the instructions above.
  8. Installation of drains takes place in previously designated places. For fastening pipes to the walls, clamps are used, which are fixed with dowels. The distance between the clamps should not exceed two meters. The pipe must be at least 40 mm from the wall. Pipe cutting must be done with a hacksaw.

    If it is necessary to connect two elbows, then measure the distance between the ends of the pipes. To the value obtained (in this case "a") 100 mm is added to enter connecting pipe at the ends of the knees (50 mm for each knee).

    The drain finish elbow is fixed to the pipe with rivets. The distance from the edge of the drain pipe to the ground must not exceed 300 mm. This completes the plumbing installation.

This manual describes the main stages of installing a gutter with your own hands. In each specific case, it is necessary to ask the supplier for instructions, since each manufacturer has slightly different installation of gutters.

Fastening gutters to walls and roofs

During the construction of the roof, special attention should be paid to the drainage of water, for the purpose of which a drainage system is installed. Its main purpose is to protect the roof, facade and foundation from excessive water ingress.

The drainage system is fastened with clamps, which are attached to the wall with dowels. In most cases pitched roof buildings are equipped with a drain. It consists of the following components:

  • gutters;
  • drainpipes;
  • funnel;
  • additional accessories.

Gutters are classified according to the shape and material of manufacture. According to the shape of the gutter, they distinguish :

According to the material of manufacture :

In addition, they can have a very wide variety colors, which allows you to choose the most harmonious option in each individual case

During the calculations, the shape of the gutter must be taken into account, since it determines the usable area and, accordingly, the throughput. In addition, the material from which it will be made is taken into account, plastic elements when operating under conditions low temperatures very fragile and unreliable

For this reason, the choice of these parameters should be approached very wisely.

The purpose of the roof over the house does not need to be explained. One of the functions is to protect the attic or attic from precipitation, i.e. from water leakage. But, flowing down the slopes of the roof, water inevitably falls on the walls and foundation. As a result of this, the load-bearing elements of the building structure are destroyed very quickly.

The destructive effect of water can be avoided by installing a roof drainage system. Before we start the master class on installing gutters, a little theory.

Types of drainage systems

The drainage system has two signs of classification, which determine the technology of its installation:

1. According to the method of manufacture - home-made, industrial.

Handicraft production, i.e. homemade gutter from the roof. Facts such as the ability to make a beautiful and unusual gutter with your own hands speak in favor of this system. Making a homemade system does not involve significant costs. In addition, it can be mounted according to a user-friendly scheme. The undoubted disadvantage is the need for constant maintenance, since gutters are usually made of galvanized steel, which quickly rots. Among the conditional shortcomings are the difficulty of docking individual elements and a mediocre appearance.

Factory production (factory). This method involves maintaining all standards and parameters. That is, if necessary, you can easily join different elements from different supplies of the same manufacturer.

2. According to the material used - plastic, metal.

According to the installation method, an adhesive system is distinguished (installation takes place using glue) and glueless (installation on sealing rubber bands).

Advantages of plastic gutters:

  • immunity to ultraviolet. High-quality plastic drainage system will not burn out during the entire period of operation;
  • not subject to corrosion;
  • the adhesive system does not require maintenance, since the “cold welding” method is used, during which the elements are connected at the molecular level;
  • strength;
  • light weight;
  • ease of installation;
  • the presence of different colors;
  • a wide variety of components allows you to create a drainage system of the desired configuration, which makes it indispensable for installation on broken roofs.

Disadvantages of PVC gutters:

  • plastic can be destroyed by mechanical stress. Therefore, such systems cannot be installed on high-rise buildings. The plastic drainage system is mounted only on a low-rise private house;
  • repair failure. A destroyed element cannot be restored;
  • plastic drainage system rubber bands requires periodic replacement of seals, which entails disassembly / assembly of elements;
  • high coefficient of linear expansion.

The gutter system from a metal profile has several varieties: galvanized, copper, galvanized with polymer coated(painted). The main difference between them is the cost and duration of operation. Appearance presented in the photo.

Advantages of metal gutters:

  • strength;
  • reliability;
  • stand significant snow loads and other environmental influences;
  • do not support combustion;
  • operating temperature -60°С +130°С;
  • dimensional stability.

Disadvantages of metal gutters:

  • high price;
  • significant weight of the entire system;
  • complexity of installation;
  • small selection of colors;
  • the appearance of rust when the protective layer is damaged (an exception is a copper drainage system);
  • a small number of elements makes it suitable only for installation on roofs with angles of 90°.

Which drainage system is better, plastic or metal, it is difficult to answer unambiguously, it all depends on the specific operating conditions and other factors. In any case, the choice of a drainage system should be based on quality indicators, not price.

From the position of this classification, we will consider how to properly mount the drainage system with our own hands.

Installation of a drainage system - instructions

Like any construction process, the technology of installing gutters includes the selection of a system, material and calculations.

There are several options for drainage systems, depending on their throughput. For example, 100/75, 125/90, 150/110. This marking shows the ratio of the diameter of the pipe and gutter. Visual system round section 125/100 and square section - in the photo.

Advice. Each manufacturer has its own dimensions of gutters, pipes. Their configuration is also different. Therefore, do not even try to dock systems from different manufacturers.

Such a variety of systems is necessary so that each user can choose the one that suits his needs.

Choosing a drainage system

To choose the right water drainage system you need:

  • get acquainted with the maximum level of precipitation in your area;
  • calculate the area of the slope (S). Not all, but the largest in size. It is its size that will determine the choice of gutter

S \u003d (A + B / 2) x C

Nuance. For flat roofs(the slope angle does not exceed 10°) the formula takes the form
S = A x C

Based on these measurements, select the desired system in the table.

After the system is selected, you need to determine the type and calculate the amount of materials. To do this, we will prepare drawings or diagrams of planes with dimensions. They will simplify the calculation and then the installation of the drainage system.

Calculation of the drainage system

We will illustrate, using the example of a house, how to calculate the amount of materials for installing a drainage system.

Gutter gutter - semicircular (semicircular section) and rectangular (rectangular section).

Designed to collect precipitation (rain and melt water) from the roof.

The length of the gutter is 3-4 m. It is fixed with the help of hooks and brackets, which are installed in steps of 60-90 cm, ensuring that the slope of the gutter is at least 1 cm for every 3-4 meters.

Their number in linear meters is equal to the perimeter of the base of the roof. That is, the length of all surfaces on which the gutter will be mounted. Gutter dimensions - sold by the piece in 3 and 4 m.p.

For a house the size of our example, you will need 3-meter gutters - 10 pcs. 4 meters - 1 pc.

Nuance. Round all dimensions to the nearest whole gutter length. The fewer connections, the easier, more reliable and cheaper the installation will end up.

  • Gutter angles (external (external) and internal, 90 and 135 degrees).

The corner gutter is designed to change the direction (distribution) of water flows. Mounting method: mounted on the outer and inner corners of the roof.

We will need 4 outside corners and 2 inside corners, all 90 degrees.

If a house or cottage has sharp or obtuse corners, you need to choose the system in which such corners exist.

Advice. A variety of angles can be made from a plastic gutter by cutting out part of the gutter and connecting the halves at the desired angle. Parts are connected using glue - cold welding.

  • Gutters, connectors, gutter plugs.

For our example - 4 funnels, 2 plugs. Connectors can be - 5 or 17. Depending on the features of the installation of a particular system. In most drainage systems, corners are fastened directly to the gutter. But in some - with the use of a connector.

In drainage systems where installation is carried out with the use of glue, conventional connectors and expansion joints should be used.

Compensatory is installed with a roof length of more than 8 r.m. Its installation is carried out without the use of glue. Such a connector is designed to compensate for the linear expansion of the gutter during heating / cooling. For our example, 4 regular connectors and one compensating one would be required.

Advice. One funnel receives water from 10 m.p. gutters. If the length of the wall is longer - you need to put two funnels. In our example, we did just that. In this case, the distance between two adjacent funnels cannot exceed 20 m.p.

  • Gutter hooks.

Hooks can be long or short. The first ones are designed to hang the gutter on the rafters and are attached before the installation of the roofing material. The second (short) ones are used for attaching the gutter to the frontal board, respectively, it is possible to install it on a finished roof, i.e. covered with roofing material.

The gutter fastening hook is installed at intervals of 60 cm. At the same time, installation is mandatory near corners, funnels, plugs and at junctions. In our example - 68 hooks.

  • Downspouts (for vertical drain), pipe fittings/brackets.

The pipe can be round and rectangular. Designed for vertical water flow.

The pipe bracket is designed to fix the pipe to the wall. According to the installation method, they distinguish “on a stone” (for fixing on a brick, stone or concrete wall. Fixation by means of a hardware) and "on a tree" (for fixing on wooden walls(beam, log, OSB). fixing with screws).

The number of pipes is determined by the number of funnels. In our example, there are 4 funnels, which means there are also 4 pipe installation sites. their length is equal to the total length of all walls along which the installation is planned. Pipes are also sold in lengths of 3 and 4 m. You need to round up, since the joints on the pipe are also undesirable. Those. if you have a house height of 3.5 m, you need to buy a 4 m pipe. 0.5 will go to waste or for other needs.

Pipe fasteners are installed every meter. At the same time, their installation near the knees is mandatory.

  • Pipe elbow, drain (drain elbow).

If the design of the house is similar to that shown in the photo, then for each riser (we have 4 of them) we need two universal elbows (8 in total) and one drain (4 in total).

Distance L is measured as shown in the figure.

The material was prepared for the site www.site

Nuance. makes some adjustments to the calculation of the drainage system. The height of the attic wall affects the number and installation of gutters. The diagrams below show what needs to be taken into account when calculating.

Installation of a drainage system made of plastic (PVC)

1. Installation of drain funnels (roofing, storm, water intake) on the roof.

The gutter fastening hooks closest to the funnel are installed at a distance of 2 cm from it. They serve as holders.

Advice. The angle of inclination with respect to the funnel is 2° or 3-4 mm. by 1 m. It is convenient to check the slope with the help of a nylon thread.

With a wall length of 10 to 20 meters, it is more advisable to install the gutter in the following ways:

  • Simple slope (straight) - the funnel is installed at the end of the slope.
  • Double slope: "from the middle" or "towards the middle."

In the first case, the middle gutter is at the highest point, and the water moves to the funnels located at the corners of the building. In the second case, two extreme gutters are at the highest point and the water moves to a funnel located in the middle between them. If the length of the gutter exceeds 22 meters, three funnels or a more powerful system are installed.

3. Mounting of the common and compensatory gutter connector (if necessary).

Gutter connectors are installed between the brackets. Equal distance from them.

4. Cut the gutter into blanks desired length. It is desirable to clean the place of the cut.

5. Connection of gutters with a funnel. The gutter is laid on brackets adjacent to the funnel, taking into account the linear expansion of the plastic.

The hole for the funnel can be drilled in the right place of the gutter using a crown.

Some manufacturers label funnels in such a way as to simplify installation. That is, the temperature scale is indicated on the side of the funnel. After checking the temperature overboard, the chute is set at the desired level.

In adhesive systems, the funnel is one of the elements that does not use adhesive when installing.

If provided, at the junction of the gutter and funnel, a sealing gum is installed.

When laying the gutter, the connector must be smeared with glue or sealed with an elastic band.

The compensation connector is mounted without the use of glue.

Nuance. In order for the water to flow in a given direction, it is better to make a “teardrop” at the end of the drain pipe.

7. Installation of corners and plugs for the gutter is carried out according to the same scheme.

Both the corner and the plug are mounted using glue or sealing rubber bands.

8. Fastening clamps and installation of downpipes.

At the calculated distance, holes are drilled for fastening the clamp.

The installation of the pipe begins with the installation of the elbow (if necessary) or the pipe in the funnel.

Glue or rubber seal is required.

Nuance. The lower pipe is inserted into the upper one with a gap of 2 mm. (linear expansion compensation).

The pipe is attached to the wall with a clamp. Which is installed in pre-drilled holes.

If necessary, a system of splitters (tees) is mounted.

The ebb must be mounted so that the water from it does not destroy the foundation of the house. For example, a low tide diverts water into a canal drainage system or directly into a drainage well.

Installation of a metal drainage system

Step-by-step guide, instructions for installing gutters for a roof made of metal profiles with your own hands.

1. Installation of two extreme brackets.

They can be installed on truss system or on the eaves bar (frontal).

Advice. For a normal outflow of water from the roof, the angle of inclination of the gutter towards the funnel should be 3-4 mm per 1.m.

The bracket is mounted on three self-tapping screws.

With a wall length of more than 10 m, a simple (straight) slope is performed. If the length is more than 10 m - double.

2. Open the gutters.

The place of the saw is cleaned with a file.

Advice. The movement of the saw is carried out in the direction "away from you".

3. Cutting a hole for the funnel.

Advice. The diameter of the hole should be slightly larger than the diameter of the funnel.

Imagine the roof of your house or cottage without a gutter system. This means that after the winter snow melts and during each rain, the perimeter of the house will look like a waterfall. There is also a threat to the proper condition of the walls and foundation of the house.
So a system for draining rainwater from the roof is a must. And the way the gutter is fastened will determine the reliability of the entire system.

A good drainage system will last a long time and will not cause trouble during operation. Of course, if you put plastic structures, you will not have to rely on them for as long as on a polymer-coated metal system. Here the main issue is financial opportunities at the moment.

In any case, only high-quality installation will allow the drain to work all the time for which it is designed. Therefore, for the installation of the system, homeowners often turn to professional firms. However, you can do all the work yourself.

If you have no idea about fixing gutters and other elements of the roof drainage system, first carefully study the entire installation process.

When to start?

Ideally, if the gutters are fastened in a house under construction at the stage of roof construction, before its coating is completed. This provides ease of installation and simplifies some work. But, if you are dealing with a fully built house, this does not mean that the installation of a drainage system is impossible. You just have to find the right options.

Please note: it is with the installation of fasteners and installation of the gutter that work begins on the general installation of the system for collecting and draining rainwater from the roof.

Fastener selection

There are no special subtleties here. The brackets must match the diameter of the gutters you choose.. Make sure the metal is of good quality.

Some drainage systems well-known manufacturers(metal coated with polymers) are supplied complete with all necessary fasteners.

Fastening calculation

How many brackets are required for the installation of gutters - depends on the material of the drainage system. For metal structures, a step of 0.5-0.6 meters is sufficient. It is advisable to mount plastic gutters for water drainage more often - three brackets per meter. If the roof is complex, with turns, external and internal corners, this must be taken into account. After all, each side may require its own bracket.

Please note: the distance from the intake funnel to the nearest fixtures must be at least 0.15 m.

Where to mount?

There are several ways to install fasteners for laying gutters:

  1. Fastening of a drain to a frontal board. The choice of this method is most often dictated by two circumstances. Firstly, the installation of a water collection and drainage system is carried out with a fully finished roof. Secondly, you are planning to install a plastic drainage system. However, it is not forbidden to fasten the metal structures of the water drainage system in this way, while it is advisable to use special short hooks.
  2. The next way is to use as a basis rafter legs. This is possible if the pitch of the rafters is no more than 0.6 m. This method is very reliable and is great for roofs of a large area. But it is possible to apply it only before laying the roof covering.
  3. Long hooks or combined brackets can be attached to the roof sheathing, to its first lath. This method is optimal if the rafters are arranged in increments of more than 0.6 meters (if an ondulin or metal roof is planned).
  4. The last method is designed for the case when the previous three are not available. For example: how to fix a drain when there is no frontal roof board, as well as access to rafters and sheathing. Then it is necessary to mount special crutches (metal) into the wall, and fasten the gutter to them with the help of studs.

There is a very important question: what should be the thickness of the frontal board for attaching the drain? Someone uses the usual "twenty". There are those who, for reliability, buy a board 4 cm thick. However, craftsmen-builders consider 25-30 mm thickness to be optimal.

Attention: slope

No water drainage system will work if the installation of a roof drain does not provide for the correct slope of the gutter. It is made in the direction from the highest point of the drain to the intake funnel.

There are practical limits here:

  1. With an insufficient slope, rain and melt water will stagnate in the gutters, even overflowing over the edges is possible.
  2. If you install gutters with an excessive slope, there may be too much water flow that the funnel cannot handle.
  3. The optimal slope of the gutter per 1 meter of horizontal flow should be kept within 0.2 - 0.7 mm.

How to withstand the slope of the drain

In order for the flow to decrease evenly, it is important to correctly arrange the first and last fastenings of the gutter.

The first gutter bracket is attached at the highest point of the drain. Depending on the final length of the gutter, you need to calculate the slope of the drain and calculate the bottom point. The last bracket is attached to it. Then, between them you need to pull a thin rope or cord. Do all intermediate fastenings, focusing on the resulting line.

What to do next

After all the brackets are installed, you can start laying the gutters. There is a specific moment here: this is the connection of joints. First of all, it depends on the material and design of the drainage system. With any method, you can find both disadvantages and advantages:

  • adhesive joints are strong, but create problems during the dismantling and repair of the drain;
  • rubber seals will ensure tightness, but with sudden temperature changes they can be deformed;
  • the cold welding method requires that the drainage system be protected from severe mechanical stress.

Fastening each gutter drain is a responsible and serious matter. Knowledge of the installation process of the entire system is very useful and important. If desired and necessary, you can independently equip the water flow from the roof or simply carefully monitor the work of invited specialists.
