Brick siding. Brick siding: material features and work technology Decorative brick siding

Vinyl, metal siding and other types of siding are used to decorate buildings from the outside. The main difference between facade panels and other similar building materials is their low weight and attractive appearance. appearance.

It is produced mainly from polymers, vinyl, chalk, iron, cement and various other additives that improve its quality.

Types and characteristics

The most common are the following types of brick siding:

  • vinyl;
  • metal;
  • cement;
  • basement.

The first type is the easiest. Available in the form of plates of different sizes, colors and textures. It can imitate materials such as wood, stone, brick and more. It is easy to pick up to the house with any design. It is not afraid of precipitation, temperature changes and has a low cost. The main disadvantage is thermal expansion. When installing, be sure to leave gaps so that the panels can expand with temperature changes. If you install the slats tightly, then they will begin to bulge and crack, because of which you will have to change them for others. Cheap vinyl siding is resistant to mechanical damage, and also quickly fades in the sun and has a short service life.

The metal type is made of aluminum, steel or zinc. From above it is covered with a polymer primer, which gives an unusual color and protects against damage and corrosion. Aluminum is the cheapest, but due to the small thickness of the sheets, it is extremely susceptible to deformation, which should be taken into account during transportation. Wrinkled plates cannot be leveled, they will have to be thrown away. The best option considered galvanized with a thickness of 0.5 mm and with a polymer layer.

The disadvantage is poor sound insulation (during rain, a lot of noise is made) and a high probability of corrosion in places where the sheets are cut, since they do not have a protective coating. It imitates almost any material - timber, wood, brickwork, stone and more, will not fade under sunbeams. Its thermal expansion is 6 times less than that of vinyl panels. Brick-like metal siding can be used at temperatures from -60°С to +90°С. Unlike all other species, it does not burn or melt.

Basement siding is made from the same components as vinyl, but unlike the latter, it has a greater thickness and is equipped with partitions that increase the rigidity of the entire structure. It will last much longer, as it deforms less from impacts and breaks down more slowly under the influence of ultraviolet rays. Sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and also vary by texture and color. On average, the length is 120 mm, width - 50 cm.

Manufacturers overview

One of the most popular brands of vinyl siding is Deke. Docke is a German company manufacturing panels using European equipment. Their products comply with all quality control systems. Precise and best manufacturing techniques allow you to create mixtures with the same composition, so that all plates have an identical shade and dimensions.

Positive sides:

  • Excellent durability - withstands significant wind loads and blows.
  • Environmentally friendly material - the content of harmful impurities is much lower than the norm, so they do not harm the environment.
  • Fireproof - in case of ignition, the fire dies out within 30 seconds (class G2), the degree of smoke formation is B2, suitable for finishing both outside and inside buildings.
  • Does not fade - during the manufacture, only high-quality pigments are added to the composition, making the plates more resistant to color loss due to exposure to ultraviolet rays.
  • Attractive appearance, large selection of textures and colors.
  • Low cost.

Any person is able to carry out the installation, the main thing is to follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly, observe the gaps and be careful when working. If the panels are contaminated (with dust), then they are washed with water, if necessary, they can be rubbed with a soft sponge or cloth with soapy water.

No less common is the product american brand Nailit. They produce basement siding that imitates brick or stone. It is made of such high quality that it is difficult to distinguish it from natural materials. In the production, injection molding technology is used, so when combined, a fully compatible canvas is obtained, without noticeable joints. Quality tested for over 50 years and confirmed by many positive feedback from buyers.

Advantages:

  • long service life;
  • are not afraid of temperature changes and do not fade;
  • do not support the growth of mold and fungi;
  • resistant to mechanical and chemical influences;
  • available in a wide range of colors and textures;
  • simple installation and maintenance.

Vinyl facade panels under the brick of this German company are distinguished high quality and durability. They are light in weight, so they do not create a large load on the walls and foundation. If you hit the plate, it will bend, and after a while it will return to its original shape. Resistant to fire: do not burn, but melt.

The company produces Wandstein brick plinth siding in 5 color shades - white, sand, terracotta, burnt and dark brown. Standard sizes- 0.8x0.6 cm, thickness 2.6 mm, outer corner - 0.16x0.6 m. For reliable and discreet fastening, it is equipped with a reinforced ClickShloss lock. Since the products are made by injection molding, they completely convey the structure of bricks or stones.

Holzplast guarantees that Wandstein will not fade during the first 10 years of operation. Temperature of use – from -50°С to +50°С. The coating is not swollen, resistant to scratches and other mechanical stress. Patented technology has minimized the degree of expansion and contraction. During heating, hazardous and toxic compounds are not released, so the planks are absolutely safe for humans and environment.

4. Fineber and Metal Profile Ecosteel.

The Fineber company produces vinyl siding and facade panels that imitate stone or brick. The latter have a thickness of 3 mm and are used either for finishing any part of the house, or the whole. They are made by molding from polypropylene, making them flame-retardant and environmentally friendly.

Among metal siding products of the Metal Profile Ecosteel brand are in the greatest demand. Their products are covered with a thick decorative layer, which ensures a longer preservation of an attractive appearance and an increase in service life; aluzinc is used for the base. They imitate not only brick, but also various stones, wood. Warranty period - 10 years.

In harsh climatic conditions, even high-quality brick basement siding will last no more than 15-20 years, subject to all installation and operation rules. Cheap materials will lose their original color within one year, expensive ones fade slowly (5-15 years), which is not so noticeable to the eye. If the finish leads or bends, then this problem does not depend on the plates, it only appears in case of improper installation.

Several factors influence the cost: dimensions, manufacturer and texture: the thicker the plates, the higher the price. The material, which is expensive, fully justifies itself, as it is resistant to adverse weather conditions, has a long service life and does not fade in the sun in a short time.

It is recommended to purchase in those companies that have been selling for a long time. Thanks to many years of experience, they have a complete understanding of the quality of panels from different manufacturers and will help you make the right choice, as well as provide a guarantee.

You can buy brick textured vinyl panels very cheaply, but they will not last long, as they are thin and made from recycled materials. They quickly lose their original color and become brittle under the influence of ultraviolet rays, they are not able to withstand even small mechanical loads and shocks. Cracks cannot be hidden, so you will have to buy a new bar and replace the damaged one.

Before you buy vinyl, metal or brick basement siding, you need to accurately calculate the amount. It is necessary to choose the right color and texture so that it blends with other parts of the building. In this case, you can contact a specialist, just show a photo of the house.

It is impossible to determine the quality by sight, only an expert can evaluate the building material. But there are features that will help weed out defective strips, for example, geometry: they must be even, without bulges and exactly the same.

The size of the siding depends on the manufacturer and type of panels. Simple vinyl can have larger dimensions than basement ones, as they have less weight due to their small thickness.

Brick houses have always been considered a symbol of reliability and prosperity for a century and a half, which is why the percentage of country residences made of this material is so high. However, the construction of such housing requires serious financial investments and is time-consuming. For those who want to decorate their home with such masonry and not be left behind, manufacturers offer brick siding.

Peculiarities

Firmly rooted in the building vocabulary, siding is mostly the process of sheathing the facade of a building. Another meaning of the term is enough new material(even 20 years ago nothing was known about him in our country), with which buildings are sheathed. Having appeared in the 50s of the twentieth century in America and Canada, siding has recently appeared in domestic open spaces. It comes in vinyl, metal and wood.

An important fact is that not only new buildings are trimmed with siding, but also old buildings are being restored. The panels not only give an aesthetic appearance, but also protect the main walls from destruction.

Directly brick siding is produced from vinyl, metal, basement. Vinyl is made from more inexpensive polyvinyl chloride. The most popular is the basement, which is made of polypropylene, has high strength and is so natural that it is almost indistinguishable from brick.

Brick siding has its pros and cons, like any building material.

Among the advantages it is worth highlighting the following:

  • You can veneer with siding any surface of the walls - from foam block to timber, it is only important that the shrinkage of the walls is completed, and all defects are cleaned and corrected.

  • For mounting on walls, a special carrier grid is attached, on which decorative panels will be laid. As a result, a small gap remains between the main wall and the decorative coating, performing ventilation functions. Thus, brickwork will serve as additional protection against external environmental influences and at the same time will not create a greenhouse effect.
  • Any layer of thermal insulation can be laid under the cladding, while the appearance will not suffer: with proper installation, you can understand that the house is not lined with bricks, you can only come close to the walls.

  • Durability. Provided that you bought a high-end finish, the siding will last about 50 years - the same amount of time a red brick will last without finishing. However, it is still problematic to make sure of this, since siding finishing in domestic open spaces has been produced for less than 30 years.
  • UV-resistant - the panels do not fade in the sun and remain bright for many years.
  • Durability - damage to the structure is possible only with a strong mechanical impact.
  • Ease of installation - the panels are joined according to the principle of the designer.
  • Practicality is characterized by a minimum amount of waste when facing the facade.
  • You can easily replace a damaged panel.
  • Environmental friendliness.
  • Doesn't require a lot of work.

When choosing brick siding, consider the disadvantages of this finish:

  • Finishing a house with combustible material is a rather risky undertaking.
  • The difference between real and artificial masonry is distinguishable, albeit at close range.
  • Limited color range.
  • Installation can be done by professionals with special equipment and skills: it is important to strictly adhere to the cladding technology and safety precautions during work.
  • The large total weight of the panels requires the creation of an additional frame, strengthening the foundation, which affects finances.
  • The price of basement siding is quite high compared to plastic panels.

Despite the rather serious disadvantages, it is still cheaper to make brick siding than to drive a whole house out of stone. In addition, caring for the panels is quite simple - just rinse the accumulated dust with water, and many manufacturers have taken care of additional protection against burning and smoldering with the help of fire-resistant compounds and substrates.

Kinds

Manufacturers offer a fairly wide color scheme brick siding. When choosing decorative siding panels, you need to pay attention to the materials from which they are made.

Plastic siding is the most popular among buyers. On sale it is represented by vinyl and plinth products. Vinyl is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), basement is cast from more expensive polypropylene. Both materials exactly reproduce the structure of the brick, all the pores and cracks.

The difference between the two types of plastic lies in the thickness of the plate: the plinth is denser and withstands scratches better, while the vinyl is thinner and lighter, but at the same time has a more durable color.

Vinyl siding is mainly used for facade cladding., his bright colors remain so after ten years of operation. PVC panels have a cell structure, so they retain heat well. Recently, insulated plastic sandwich panels with increased thickness have appeared on the market. They do not require additional finishing with insulation.

Polypropylene panels got their name due to the fact that they are used mainly for finishing the basement. Durable and flexible polypropylene is able to withstand severe mechanical stress. The color scheme of the basement panels is quite diverse: they are equally well imitated dark shades burnt brick, the smoothness of clinker, golden and ocher. Another important detail is the location of the metal crate when installing the basement siding under the brick. In harsh climatic conditions, it is raised 10 cm from the ground, which freezes in winter. And if the climate is mild, then you can place the frame close to the soil.

Maybe, plastic siding does not look as natural as bituminous facade material with its natural basalt coating, however, everything specifications are in no way inferior, and the pricing policy is more democratic. PVC panels are equally well used for sheathing timber, block or brick structures.

Metal facing material made of aluminum, galvanized thin steel. The most popular is aluminum siding due to its price and ease of painting. At the same time, aluminum is subject to deformation and it is unrealistic to return the original appearance of the panel. Also, the metal is subject to corrosion at the joints, and the galvanized material tends to peel off the polymer layer. Iron siding also cannot boast of a wealth of colors.

This type of finish has its significant advantages:

  • strength;
  • durability;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • not subject to rotting and mold growth;
  • does not fade in the sun;
  • not afraid of moisture;
  • installation can be done in any weather conditions;
  • light weight panels.

Fiber cement brick siding belongs to the premium class among facade materials.

A mixture of cement with sand and reinforcing fibers creates a durable decorative coating with indisputable advantages:

  • durability;
  • the safest material among brick siding;
  • fire resistance - flammability level G0 and G1 - if the panels are coated with paint on the front side;
  • moisture resistance;
  • frost resistance;

  • high bending strength;
  • not subject to corrosion;
  • not afraid of external influences - temperature changes, UV radiation;
  • does not fade in the sun;
  • installation can be done at any time of the year and under any weather conditions - in contrast, for example, from clinker bricks;
  • a house finished with fiber cement panels looks exceptionally respectable.

The existing range of brick siding is able to satisfy almost any consumer demand in any climatic conditions.

Design

Facade siding with imitation brick has long become a classic, suitable for any architectural forms and solutions. A real brick is actually only red and yellow, and modern technology production allows you to significantly expand the color range of brick-like panels. Clients are offered the following shades: burnt brick, white, beige, golden, sandy, brown, cherry, bronze, amber, milky and even wool. In the exclusive collections of some manufacturers you can find shades of malachite, granite, agate.

The format of the patterns laid out in bricks on the panels can also vary. These can be classic clinker products of the same shape and texture. It can be a combination of Antique type surfaces of different widths and smoothness.

Choosing brick siding for exterior decoration, Take advantage of a few tips from leading designers and experts in the field of finishing materials:

  • Moveton is considered a combination of a wooden facade (from natural material or decorative plastic) with brick lining.
  • For facade cladding, both monochrome and a combination of two shades are acceptable. Darker brick looks in contrast with light walls on the basement or corners of the house.
  • Additionally, you can veneer window openings with dark siding - to match the basement.
  • When buying any finishing material, it is worth remembering the rule: if you want a single shade, take products from the same batch.
  • It is not difficult to take care of the siding: it is enough to rinse with clean water under pressure from a hose.

  • Each type of siding is selected depending on the design and type of building. For example, heavy fiber cement panels are out of place in a multi-storey business center.
  • Before buying material for plinth sheathing, it is necessary to make the correct measurements - this will allow you to purchase the correct number of panels. Panel sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. For example, Dolomit offers 3-meter siding for plinth cladding, and it is also possible to produce even longer panels on request. Novik produces panel sizes of 1150x520 mm, and Vox - 1110x460x2.5 mm, for Alta Profile, the length varies from 1130 to 1168 mm.

The house is the "calling card" of its owners. Public opinion also depends on how presentable and neat the interior or exterior decoration looks. The homeowner who says that he is not interested in such parameters as the assessments of others is probably disingenuous. After all, that is why, when choosing materials for finishing their own home, many pay attention not only to the technical characteristics, but also to the impeccable appearance of the goods. Plinth siding can rightly be considered such an "aesthetic" product of the construction industry. The article will discuss how to sheathe siding under a brick.

What is basement siding

  • As is often the case in Russia, some goods that have come into our lives from abroad receive a different name among the people. So the “brick and stone panels” often used in Canada and the USA quickly turned into “basement siding”. This limitation in installation space can be explained by the fact that its cost compared to conventional vinyl panels forced consumers to use it only when decorating the basement, while most of the facade was traditionally covered with ordinary siding.

Basement siding under a brick photo

  • The situation with the price of the material has changed a long time ago, but the name has remained the same. Although houses lined with such roof panels are much more common. Each manufacturer is trying to expand the range of colors for their products, and at the same time, company designers are constantly working on the appearance and texture of the siding. Therefore, those who take care of the individual appearance of their home should not be afraid to look like a neighbor.

Thus, the panels can serve:

  • facing material for the basement of the building. The thickness of the panels allows them to withstand mechanical damage, which is especially important because in winter time the load on the structure will increase many times;
  • partial cladding for the entire facade of the building. The layout of inserts from basement and conventional siding can be varied. Such solutions always look original, fresh and convey the individual style of the owner of the house;
  • material for finishing the entire building as a whole. Can be relatively short time turn wooden house into a stone impregnable fortress or a brick mansion.

Advantages and disadvantages of basement brick siding

Like any building material, the basement siding of a brick house has its ardent supporters and opponents. It all depends on whether consumers pay the most attention to the pros or cons of the panels. Among positive qualities can be called:

  • low cost of finishing with siding compared to similar work, but using the materials that PVC panels are designed to imitate;
  • low weight not only of the product itself, but of the entire structure;

  • labor costs during the installation of this material are much less than facing with stone or brick. And in terms of the cleanliness of such work, basement siding wins;
  • compliance with the correct installation technology (including when creating the crate) will not disturb the natural air exchange processes and will not require special means for insulation. The heat-saving material is standard and not necessarily expensive;
  • basement siding can be classified as a durable material. Manufacturers claim a service life of up to 50 years. Of course, these figures cannot be compared with the same natural stone, but again it is worth remembering the price difference;
  • ease of use and excellent color retention are similar to the usual vinyl siding, but the variety of produced forms and the ability to imitate various materials attract many buyers. You can choose not only “wild stone” or “brickwork”, but also rubble stone, wood chips, shingles and other options.

Some disadvantages of basement siding become apparent only in comparison with materials such as artificial stone or clinker tiles. But, since they exist, they cannot be ignored.

  • Like any material made from polyvinyl chloride, basement siding has such an indicator as the coefficient of compression / expansion under the influence of low and high temperatures. Failure to comply with the installation technology recommended by the manufacturer entails disastrous consequences for the entire structure in the coming warm / cold season.
  • The second drawback relates more to the appearance of the panels, but in some cases this may play a decisive role. So,
  • The color palette of siding, despite its diversity, loses to the same clinker tiles or artificial stone.
  • No matter how skillfully the imitation of the pattern and texture on the panels is done, even at a short distance it will be clear that this is not a “noble” breed, but PVC siding. Therefore, no matter what the sellers say, basement siding is a material of the middle price category, and not of the luxury class.

How to calculate the amount of material when purchasing

  • It is necessary to measure the length and height of the walls or those areas where it is planned to install the panels. We must not forget that the resulting figure will not be final, because when assembling basement siding, you cannot avoid the cost of adjusting the pattern. They make up about 10%.
  • The amount will change in the following ratio: the shorter the wall length, the lower the installation costs. This also applies to panel dimensions: the allowance for fitting increases with the length of the material sheet. Large losses during the installation of profiles and rails are not expected, but they must be taken into account.

  • On average, the size of a brick basement siding panel is 1120x472 mm.
  • In most retail outlets, consultants will offer help with calculations. Similar services are available on the website of the manufacturers of this material.

Buy basement siding under brick

  • Despite the relative availability, the cost of two packages of material (similar in appearance) can differ significantly. Why does it depend?
  • First of all, the cost depends on the raw materials used. Foreign analogues are made from European raw materials and using locally produced dyes. The price of goods produced abroad will not be low.
  • The country in which the goods are produced also affects the final cost. If the panels were produced abroad, then shipping costs will be added to the cost.
  • The difference in price may also be depending on the proximity of the seller directly to the manufacturer. Buying panels from authorized dealers can save you some money.
  • I must say that among Canadian, American and German manufacturers, Russian companies are also beginning to conquer the market.

Preparing the base for installation

  • When the material is purchased, you can start finishing. The surface on which the crate will be mounted must be flat and solid. Often there are recommendations for attaching basement siding directly to the wall. This practice is not encouraged, even if the confidence in the evenness of the base is 100%. The deformation of the siding during operation is opposed only by its installation on the crate.

  • The most acceptable material for the crate is considered to be a metal profile. It is durable, does not require compliance with the permissible humidity indicator (like wooden slats) and treatment with antiseptics and flame retardants (which is required if done "in good faith"). Yes, and bars with knots and bumps will not work either. Therefore, the metal profile must be mounted depending on the expected scope of work.
  • The horizontal direction is convenient if you plan to sheathe only the lower part of the building with siding. The first bar is fixed at a height of 15-12 cm from the ground. This requirement is especially important if the climate is not different high temperatures. For ease of installation of panels for the whole house, it is better to make the crate vertical. Framing in two directions at once will take a lot of time and is not a requirement.
  • But the step with which the guides will be equidistant from each other must be observed. In the horizontal version, this distance is equal to ½ of the height of the panel. For vertical strips, it is ½ of the length of the siding. This refers to the gap from the right edge of one guide to the right side of the other.

  • The vertical elements of the crate at the outer corners of the house are fastened end-to-end. At inner corners - to the distance of the mounting plate. When buying a material, you should check with the seller if this manufacturer has trims for internal corners. The fact is that some brands of basement siding do not provide for such a component.

Brick basement siding installation

The material under consideration has several specific element names that you need to know. With the panels themselves, everything is clear. But some other points may require clarification. Therefore, before starting work, it is worth conducting a small educational program.

  • The element that acts as a fastener for the first panel and is located at the base of the building is called the starting strip.

  • To make the final panel look neat horizontally, it is framed with an adjustable profile. For vertical planes, a J-profile is used.
  • External and internal corners help to connect the material panels to each other at the appropriate joints.
  • To neatly join two rows of siding sheets together, use an H-shaped profile.
  • In addition to these elements necessary for mounting panels exclusively on the basement of the building, there are also additional chamfers and overlays that will ensure a reliable and aesthetic connection of the components when the facade of the house is completely finished with siding.

Now that it is clear what you have to deal with, you can proceed to initial stage assembly - installation of the starting profile.

  • Stage 1. The starting profile should not reach the corner of the house 10 cm. It is fastened with nails along a strictly horizontal line (drawn in advance according to the level). Mounting step - 30 cm.
  • Stage 2 involves the calculation of the required number of panels. To do this, the total length of the wall of the building must be converted to centimeters and divided by 112. The final panel should not be less than 30 cm.

  • Stage 3 can be considered the beginning of a full-fledged finish. Here you need to install the first panel. The direction of execution of all work is from left to right. The first panel must be taken and installed in such a way that its corner does not go into the edge of the starting profile (it was a little lower by a couple of millimeters). It should be shifted to the right almost to the stop and then apply a layer of sealant along the edge. Now you can completely dock the siding element with the corner. Before installation, you must read the instructions from the manufacturer, where he indicates the size of the required gaps between the components of the structure. These seams will become a "retreat path" for the elements of the material when it expands or shifts. Fastening with screws or nails should be strictly at a right angle. It is recommended to use an underlay.
  • Stage 4- this is the further formation of the series. The second panel is brought into the starting profile and gently moved to the first siding sheet. The procedure is repeated until the required number of tiles and rows, according to the size of the plinth. In the case when the panels imitate brick or masonry, it is necessary to shift the pattern in each subsequent row by 15 cm relative to the previous level. This will give the finish a more natural look.

The panels must be joined with smooth movements, without undue effort. One element is fastened with at least five hardware. They should not fall into the mounting pins (these are visible posts with reverse side siding). These structural solutions are designed to protect the panels from possible deformation.

  • Stage 5 involves fixing the siding at the inner corners, for which a profile or corner is used. After that, the work can be transferred to another wall.
  • stage 6 is considered final when the fitting profile is mounted. Holes are made in it, slightly larger than the diameter of the fastener. It is attached to the foundation, while filling the edges of the panels into it and performing additional fixation with a sealant. If it is required to make an angular bend, then the profile is slightly heated and given the necessary shape.

For a successful result (especially if there was no previous experience with basement siding), it is better to take a couple of people as assistants. But even under this condition, the process will not be quick until the skill is acquired. Although even novice masters are quite capable of this task, you just have to be patient.

Brick finish will always be relevant. This method of facade cladding allows you to give them a solid and respectable look. A brick building is a solid and solid building, the most desirable for any homeowner. In addition, “brick-like” finishing materials make it possible to disguise the unsightliness of the facade walls and protect it from the adverse effects of the environment.

In order to imitate brickwork, several types of materials are used. Some of them you can buy in the store, others you can make yourself. Purchased include:

  • facade panels;
  • siding;
  • clinker tiles.

Facade panels are often referred to as facade siding. This is actually the same material, differing only in size. The shape of the panels is closer to square, siding - to rectangular and oblong. Appearance can be exactly the same. For the manufacture of panels and siding, the same materials are used. The production method is also the same.

Facade panels - imitation brickwork

Imitation of brickwork can be done with your own hands. For this, different materials are used:

  • decorative plaster;
  • cement;
  • tile adhesive.

The use of materials of the first group (purchased) eliminates a lot of trouble and "wet" processes, which are indispensable when finishing cement and plaster. Each owner chooses the method of facade cladding that is most beneficial and convenient for him.

The most popular material for exterior decoration is facade panels. They can imitate both perfectly even brickwork, and with the effect of antiquity. The color range of these materials is as close as possible to the natural palette. There are panels with various effects: under old brick, new, burnt. Masonry seams can also have their own performance characteristics. The outer surface of the "bricks" can be smooth or embossed.

Today, several types of brick facade panels are produced.

  1. Fiber cement.
  2. Vinyl.
  3. Polyurethane foam.
  4. Polymer sand.
  5. Metal with insulation and without it.

Any of these materials is suitable for finishing the facade in the style of "classic", "high-tech" or "eclectic". The panels will last at least 20 years without requiring any additional processing. Caring for them is easy and simple. It is enough to periodically, as it gets dirty, clean the walls with water. The easiest way to do this is with a hose.

Fiber cement facade panels

The most reliable materials for facade cladding are cement and stone. They are traditionally used for outdoor work, as they have maximum resistance to environmental influences. The use of cement involves a number of labour-intensive and "wet" processes. Therefore, people have always looked for ways to minimize the hassle of plastering the facade.

The Japanese were the first to find a way out. They have developed a way to produce cement-based panels that are not only strong and durable, but also aesthetically pleasing. These are fiber cement products. They include components that provide relative flexibility of the material. Therefore, fiber cement facade panels have sufficient flexural and compressive strength.

The production technology is based on the conveyor process. The production goes through several stages:

  • mixture preparation;

  • application of finishing and protective coatings.

The special characteristics of fiber cement panels are provided by the cellulose included in their composition. This component gives the material moisture resistance and strength. In production, they are guided by two types of standards: domestic GOST 8747-88 and European accepted in the international classification: DIN EN 12467.

Characteristics of fiber cement products

Features of installation of fiber cement facade panels

There are two installation methods.

The choice of mounting technology depends on how smooth and durable the walls of the facade are. For finishing houses from foam and gas blocks, only the second method can be used, despite the fact that the walls of such buildings are even and relatively smooth. The fact is that these porous materials actively absorb moisture. Therefore, the outer layer of blocks can be loose. For this reason, reinforcement is necessary: crate.

However, the frame acts not only as a strength-providing base. It is necessary for the installation of a ventilated facade required for foam and aerated concrete. With the help of a ventilation gap between the wall and the facing layer, moisture is removed from both inside the house and from the external environment.

For frame houses, including those built from sandwich panels, it is possible to mount directly on the walls. As a rule, the cladding of the facade of carcases is 9-12 mm OSB, a slab that is sufficiently protected from moisture. When choosing this method of installation, it should be taken into account that the panels will not fully adhere to the wall. In any case, there will be a minimum gap sufficient for steam to escape. Therefore, you should not be afraid of the occurrence of a thermal effect.

Rules for the installation of fiber cement panels

Fiber cement siding - installation diagram

For the frame device, you can choose the most convenient material in this case: a metal profile or wooden bars. Brick panels are used not only for wall cladding, but also for the basement. Therefore, the installation of the crate can be carried out both from the beginning of the wall and from the blind area.

The design of the ventilated facade assumes the presence of upper and lower openings for moisture removal. Therefore, there is no need to install additional finishing profiles under the cornice and at the base of the facade. When performing work, the architectural features of the building and the presence (absence) of a ventilation engineering network are taken into account.

Before proceeding with the installation of panels, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the list of rules that must be observed. This will make it possible to complete the facade cladding in full accordance with the technology for mounting fiber cement panels.

  1. It is unacceptable to install the panel close to the plinth or starting bar. Otherwise, moisture will accumulate in these places, which can lead to the formation of mold or fungus.
  2. It is necessary to exclude the possibility of gaps when joining two panels. Moisture can penetrate into the cracks, which will lead to the gradual destruction of adjacent materials.
  3. Panels are fixed only through special fasteners.
  4. There should be at least 10-15 mm between the lower edge of the first panel and the starting bar. This slot will act as a lower ventilation gap.
  5. It is extremely important to install the panels in strict vertical position. If the slope of the finishing material is allowed, this can cause a distortion of the facing structure with its subsequent destruction.
  6. Experts recommend installing fiber cement panels, starting from the central vertical axis of the wall, and symmetrically on both sides of it (from the axis).
  7. Installation of panels on roof slopes is not allowed. For this purpose, special roofing materials are used.

Accessories and tools, calculation of the amount of materials

To install fiber cement panels under a brick, you will need the following components:

  • starting bar;
  • reciprocal level (aluminum);
  • finish line;
  • docking bar;
  • corner element.

For the correct calculation of the required amount of materials, it is recommended to make a preliminary layout of the panels on a piece of paper. On the drawing, you need to specify the following parameters:

  • dimensions of the wall and openings (window and door);
  • distances from the corners of the wall to openings;
  • distances between openings;
  • distance from the base to the lower edge of the openings;
  • distance from the upper edge of the openings to the eaves.

Next, you need to determine and indicate the location of each rack of the crate. For the installation of panels, a frame is required that closely surrounds all window and door openings. Vertical profiles (or wooden bars) are installed in increments of 100-120 cm. The first and last rack should be located along the line of the corners of the wall.

Having on hand finished drawing crates, it is easy to calculate the required length of the material that will be used for the frame device. The calculation is made in running meters. The length of one unit is taken as the base (for a metal profile it is 280 cm, 300 cm, 305 cm, 600 cm).

For the device of the frame, the most convenient metal profile is PP 60/27. In addition to it, you will need hangers for working with drywall and galvanized self-tapping screws.

Required tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • puncher (or drill with puncher mode);
  • jigsaw;
  • building bubble level at least 80 cm long;
  • metal scissors;
  • hammer;
  • screwdrivers.

Cutting panels is carried out using a jigsaw or a grinder with a stone disc. When using the second tool, it must be taken into account that before starting work, it is necessary to turn on the low speed mode. In this case, there will be no sparks that can damage the facing layer of the panel.

To fasten the panels to the frame, you will need special metal brackets, which are called "kleimers". These connecting elements are equipped with several holes, it is recommended to fasten through the central one. To do this, use screws or self-tapping screws.

Stages of installation of fiber cement panels under a brick using heaters

If the wall requires insulation, first of all, lay the heat insulator. It is recommended to choose dense materials of the correct geometric shape. These include sheet foam and mineral wool slabs. Any of them is attached to the wall using plastic dowel-nails with a wide round cap, which is otherwise called an "umbrella". If the bearing surface is even and strong, you can stick the foam. But even in this case, you will need a duplicating fastening with the help of dowel-nails.

Stages of installation of thermal insulation materials

Step 1. Perform a visual inspection of the bearing surface. If places are found that require strengthening, a cement-sand mortar is kneaded (for walls made of brick and concrete) and work is done to seal the cracks. If the walls are wooden, replace the worn-out lumber with a new one.

Step 2 Mount brackets.

Glue is applied to the foam sheet at 5 points: in the middle and in the corners.

Step 3 Glue the canvas to the wall. Maintain the adhesive setting time specified in the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.

Step 4 Install a drill with a victorious tip in the drill. Drill holes in the places where the glue is applied.

Step 5 A nail dowel is installed in each drilled hole. If necessary, use a hammer.

Step 6 The second part of the nail dowel is driven into the rod: fastener with a wide round hat.

Step 7 Close the insulation with a vapor barrier film using a construction stapler and galvanized staples.

Step 8. They continue to work according to the technology described below: they install the frame and fix the fiber cement panels.

If the walls are insulated not with foam, but mineral wool, the installation process is similar, with the exception of the stage of gluing the heat insulator.

Stages of installation of fiber cement panels under a brick without the use of heaters

If the wall does not require insulation, the markings made in the drawing are transferred to it. Use chalk or marker, tape measure and level. Prepare all the necessary tools and get to work.

Step 1. Holes are drilled along the marking lines in the wall in increments of 60-80 cm. The upper and lower ones should be at a distance of 10-15 cm from the top and bottom of the wall.

Step 2. Hangers are attached along the lines of the vertical racks of the frame and along the perimeter of window and door openings.

Step 3 A metal profile (or wooden bars) is installed between the side plates of the hangers and fixed with galvanized self-tapping screws.

Step 4 Perform the installation of a vapor barrier film on top of the insulation. To fix it, use double-sided tape or a construction stapler with galvanized staples. If the insulation has been fixed, re-laying the vapor barrier is not required.

Step 5 Proceed to the installation of ebbs. Depending on the brand, the configuration of these products may be different. But they all have one thing in common: purpose. It consists in the removal of water from the basement of the building. The tides are fixed strictly along a horizontal line.

At the top of each element is either a perforated bar or a flat and solid bar. In the first case, fastening to the racks of the frame is carried out through the holes in the perforation. In the second case, self-tapping screws are screwed through a continuous web.

Step 5 Set the starting bar along the bottom horizontal line of the wall. In order to properly perform this work, use a level or level. At the joints of the planks, an overlap of at least 50 mm is required.

Step 6 Attach outside corners.

In order to properly install these components, use clamps or prepare a fastening element made from a starting bar. Cut off a piece desired length, cut the narrow part and bend the bar at a right angle. Further:

  • using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver, fasten clamps or auxiliary element at the bottom of the outer corner of the building;
  • lead the lower edge of the facing corner element into the slot of the starting bar;
  • fix the upper end of the corner element;
  • build up the lining vertically.

Step 7 The first sheet of finishing material is installed. Each fiber cement panel is equipped with a narrow longitudinal slot in the bottom end and a special tapered bar on the top end. All connections to the frame are made through this bar.

There are types of panels that are not equipped with a cone-shaped bar, but with a rectangular ledge. In this case, clamps are used to fasten the plates.

Step 8. In places of contact between the panel and the crate, clamps are installed on a rectangular ledge. Attach them to the frame rack with self-tapping screws or screws. Thus, a set of cladding structures is carried out vertically to the under-cornice space.

Step 9 Along the vertical edges of the panels, a T-shaped aluminum profile: dividing bar. It is designed to prevent lateral movement of the panels. Depending on the brand of panels, the separating profile may have a U-shape.

Then you can choose one of the following installation methods: install a finishing strip along the entire length of the wall, or postpone the installation of the top panels until the final stage of facing work. The configuration of this additional element may be different. Depends on the panel brand and manufacturer.

In any case, the installation of the finishing strip will not cause difficulties. The purpose of this element is to close the upper ends of the panels. Therefore, it (the bar) is either mounted on them, and after that it is attached to the profiles of the crate. Or vice versa. In the second case, the finishing bar is installed before mounting the top panel. Which, after cutting off to the desired height, is wound from the side. Then they are attached to the profile with self-tapping screws.

Step 10. Drainage corners are attached to the inner corners of the building.

Step 11 Continue the set of panels. Having reached the inner corner, each plate is attached to the drainage corner.

Step 12 Install a one-sided dividing bar and continue mounting the panels.

Step 13 If a U-shaped dividing profile was used, close the vertical gaps between the rows of panels with the help of special cladding elements that match in color and texture with the installed type of brick-like fiber cement panels.

Step 14 If this has not been done before, attach the finish bar, cut the slabs to the desired height and install them.

Step 15 Mount near-window and door trim elements.

Brick-like vinyl facade panels

Brick façade panels made from vinyl are also referred to as "brick siding".

This material is just as convenient and easy to install as fiber cement panels. The methods of cutting, fastening, preparing walls are identical. As with fiber cement, a frame is also required for mounting vinyl. It is built on the same principles as mentioned above.

siding frame

The only difference in installing vinyl siding is the way the slats are joined. They are not placed on top of each other, as is the case with fiber cement panels, but are connected using a special locking element. The lower edge of each lamella is equipped with a small hook-shaped protrusion. It is led into a recess on the upper end of the lower lamella. After that, a characteristic click should be heard. It means that the lamellas are connected correctly.

In addition, there are a few more nuances in installing brick-like vinyl siding.

  1. The slats are never pulled up to the stop. When joining any elements of this facing material, a gap of 2-3 mm wide required by the technology is observed.
  2. Lamellas located side by side along a horizontal line can be overlapped with a 5-7 cm overlap. Another way of docking is through a special H-shaped bar.
  3. Fastening to the crate is carried out through special holes that are in the upper part of each lamella.

The appearance of brick-like vinyl siding is varied. Each manufacturer offers a fairly wide range of patterns. Not only the sizes of the "bricks" can be different, but also their color and texture. You can always find that version of this finishing material that will suit you in every way.

Polyurethane foam facade panels under the brick

Facade panels made of polyurethane foam (PPU) is a material. which combines two important properties: decorates the walls and insulates them. Such products are also called so: "thermal panels". They have a lot of advantages over any other types of brick finishes.

  1. Polyurethane foam facade panels are lightweight, so their installation is quick and easy.
  2. When using this finishing option, installation time is reduced, since there is no need for laying insulation.
  3. PPU thermal panels are not hygroscopic, therefore they are more durable.
  4. This facing material can be glued to the wall if it is even. Or mount on a wooden or metal crate.
  5. PPU panels are distinguished by unsurpassed frost resistance.
  6. Each tile has brick-shaped protrusions, so when installed, the panels simply slide into each other. Thus, there is no need to purchase any additional elements that mask and seal the joints of the finishing material.

The top facing layer of polyurethane foam panels may consist of clinker tiles, which are attached to the foam in the factory. Such a facing material has high aesthetic characteristics.

Polymer sand facade panels under brick

All types of facade cladding panels are installed on a frame pre-mounted on the wall. Polymer sand is no exception. But, like all previous panels, these also have their own characteristics. First of all, it's the price. Polymer sand panels are almost two times cheaper than vinyl ones. That is, they have the lowest cost of this group of facing materials.

For the installation of polymer sand products, no components are required in the form of start, finish, connecting strips. The high strength of the material allows it to be used in facing not only facades, but also plinths. Polymer sand panels are classified as self-extinguishing. This is another advantage.

Manufacturers of this finishing material offer the widest range color solution facing layer. Bricks can have any of the shades of the red spectrum and have a different texture. The surface of the panels is often decorated with fine-grained stone or marble chips. Shimmering under the rays of the sun, it gives the building a special, spectacular look.

Brick-like metal facade panels

Brick-like metal facade panels are nothing more than ordinary metal siding, but with a brickwork finish. The imitation is so believable that from a distance the building can be mistaken for natural brick.

The installation of metal siding requires a mass of additional elements: connecting, finishing and starting strips, wind boards, etc. This finishing material has its advantages: it is non-flammable, perfectly withstands sudden temperature changes, neither moisture nor frost will harm it.

But he also has his shortcomings. First of all, it is a heavier weight than any other brick facade panels. Installation of metal siding is more time-consuming and labor-intensive. It will not be easy for a beginner in this type of work to cope with the facade cladding. To install metal siding, you need to know how to properly connect all the elements of this structure.

During the execution of work, it is necessary to be as careful as possible and try not to damage the top facing layer of panels and components. In places of chips and scratches, rust forms over time, which will not only spoil the appearance of the finish, but also shorten its life.

Video - Lesson on the installation of plinth panels

In this article, we will talk about one of the most common materials for decorating walls outside, like brick siding. It is quite cheap, has an attractive appearance, is easy to install, but has certain subtleties in use, which we will discuss in more detail below in the article.

Brick siding installation

Material Advantages

Finishing the walls of the house with brick siding

Brick siding for wall decoration outside is not just so popular. Siding:

  • has a long service life (with high-quality installation it can last 10-40 years);
  • has a small weight (because of this, the material does not have a strong effect on the foundation building and does not lead to its destruction);
  • has a very attractive appearance (such siding practically does not differ from ordinary brick, and also repeats its shape in detail; the color palette can be completely different: from white to rich and bright);
  • easy to install (insulation of walls outside with mineral wool and installation of siding takes a maximum of 7 days, for such work it is not necessary to have construction experience; removal of the sheathing is as simple as installation);
  • steadfastly withstands various negative influences (the material does not pass water and is fire resistant, it is not afraid of sudden changes in temperature and mechanical damage);
  • does not interfere with vapor permeability (a small gap is formed between the base of the walls and the lining, which does not prevent air from penetrating, this does not allow fungi and mold to develop);
  • the finish is easy to clean (it can be rinsed with plain water);
  • has an adequate cost (due to the relative cheapness of the material, they can insulate the entire house, which will not hit the family budget).

Advantages of a siding panel over others finishing materials shown in the table below.

Work performance technology

We install brick siding with our own hands

There are several types of siding, of which brick-like metal siding occupies a leading position.

In full relationship with the type of material and its pricing policy, but the installation technology is the same.

Warming the walls of the house outside with mineral wool requires some surface preparation. First of all, it is necessary to inspect the facade along the perimeter, as well as all decorative elements, which must be tightly attached to the surface. Falling off plaster is strictly not allowed. It is also very important to remove various defects and deformations, to process cracks and gaps. If the walls of the house differ in curvature, then they do not have to be leveled, since all the irregularities can be hidden under the finish.

Then you need to prepare necessary tools, materials, insulation and, directly, the siding itself. After that, you can begin the main stage of work.

Like any other repair work, you can insulate the house with mineral wool both with your own hands and by hiring a team of experienced finishers. If you decide to carry out the work yourself, try to strictly follow the instructions that the manufacturer of the materials applies to them, otherwise you risk losing the guarantees from the manufacturer. As a rule, profiles are sold together with siding, you only need to buy additional material for battens and fasteners.

Please note that siding is not allowed to be mounted on the walls of the building, because this will not allow air circulation, and all defects on the surface will be too visible. It is for this that the crate is made, for the construction of which it is required wooden bars 50x80mm, which are attached to the surface with dowels.

Be careful, because it is forbidden to use freshly cut bars for the crate. They must be very dry.

A frame is created from the beams, for which preliminary marking is carried out, especially if the siding is planned to be installed on a concrete pavement.

The insulated material is placed in the gaps between the surfaces and the upcoming finish. Its density should not exceed 5 cm, and the insulated material should not completely fill the entire space, otherwise a sufficient amount of air will not flow. It is customary to choose the type of material according to the climate, the level of humidity, wind and other factors. You can also install siding that imitates brick, which already has mineral wool insulation.

Profile mounting

During the installation of siding, the base profile is initially installed. Next, set the outer corners, slats around the perimeter of the building and finishing stripes. Decor fasteners are carried out only with the help of a level, so that all parts are attached in the correct position. Insulation of walls with mineral wool outside the building and fastening of siding under a brick is carried out in rows, moving from bottom to top.

It is necessary to overlap two adjacent sheets, and the overlap of each subsequent sheet with the previous one should be about 20mm. Also for such fastening, you can use special H-profiles.

Remember that during the installation of siding, nails must be driven in strictly in the center of the mounting hole. It’s not worth driving them in to the very end; it’s better to leave a gap between the siding and the cap of about 1.5 mm. This should be done for the free “movement” of the panel under the influence of temperature changes, which will not lead to their deformation and arching.

For wall cladding outside the house with mineral wool, you can use the material different type and colors. You can also combine sheets of different colors, use materials of different types. But, keep in mind that such installation will be more complicated.

Sheathing the house outside with mineral wool is a quick and profitable solution. You can easily complete such a finish in a short time with your own hands without large financial investments, and with properly done work, such a design will serve you for many years, retaining its original appearance.
