Rotary ventilation turbine description drawing. How to make a do-it-yourself ventilation deflector - from a drawing to a finished device. Rules and nuances of connecting coils

The article describes different types deflectors, features of their device, principle of operation and differences from other types of traction amplifiers. We will talk about the need to install them, give a table with prices, and also consider step by step instructions on assembling the deflector with your own hands.

A deflector is a device that optimizes airflow to increase draft in an air duct or chimney. Literally translated deflector- reflector, guiding device. This fully describes its function and purpose.

The principle of operation and types of deflectors

The direction of the air flow is due to the creation of an area low pressure at the bottom of the device. When the deflector is flowed around by an air stream, a “swirl” is formed in the lower part, which, passing through the space bounded by the walls, creates additional traction. The stronger the air flow, the more powerful the thrust inside the device. In other words, the deflector directs the wind parallel to the duct pipe, thereby increasing the draft due to the pressure drop.

Such an effect is possible with the location of the walls, which is determined by the basic aerodynamic calculation. At present, several models of deflectors with optimal proportions have been experimentally developed.

TsAGI- development of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute. Zhukovsky. This deflector enhances draft due to thermal and air pressure, as well as pressure drop at a height of 2 m from the roof. This design allows hidden installation into the channel, so it is used mainly for ventilation systems (cleaning from combustion products is difficult).

Deflector Khanzhenkov. It is an additional wall around the pipe and a “rain plate”, which also serves as an exhaust hood. This umbrella is immersed for a certain distance inside the circumferential wall.

Volpert-Grigorovich deflector. It differs in a simpler design - a "plate" of two umbrellas is located above the enclosing wall.

Rotary deflector("Hood" or "Net"). It is a semicircular air trap, mounted on a rotary rod installed inside the channel. With wind load, turbulence occurs and thrust increases. Plays the role of a weather vane.

"Deflector-hood" on video

In addition to these models, there are countless other designs that often defy classification. Among them can be distinguished as modern options with enlarged spiral blades based on a bearing (they rotate during operation), and simple "umbrella-caps" from a piece of galvanized steel, which also increase traction.

Since performance calculations and the selection of a deflector design for ventilation systems are a matter for professionals, we will pay attention to reflectors for stove and fireplace chimneys.

Why you need a deflector

In addition to its main purpose - the removal of combustion products, the deflector performs several more useful functions:

  1. Significant traction gain. The thrust attracts more oxygen and this has a positive effect on fuel economy in pyrolysis boilers and ovens - it burns out completely.
  2. Extinguishing sparks. This problem is familiar to those who have installed a short chimney for a solid fuel reactor*. Sparks from the chimney - a sign of a hot burning source and powerful draft - can lead to a fire. The deflector allows you to stop the spark and allow it to burn out safely.
  3. Weather protection. In theory, the usual “umbrella” copes with this task, but it does not give the first two advantages.

* Reactor - the place where the combustion reaction takes place, the hearth, the source of combustion products (stove, fireplace, potbelly stove, boiler, etc.).

All reflections on the advisability of modernizing the chimney come down to the question of what to choose: an “umbrella” or a deflector? The simplicity of the first does not give the effect of the second, but the complexity of the deflector compared to the "umbrella" makes many think.

How much does a deflector cost

Ventilation devices are calculated together with the entire system. Deflectors specific model can be purchased according to the required pipe diameter.

Deflectors are often made in handicraft workshops and small workshops (in this case, the product may not have a specific name and reference to the model). An indicator of the quality of the company's work will be a product passport indicating the dimensions of the parts, steel grade and other details.

Do-it-yourself deflector (Volpert-Grigorovich)

Of course, home craftsmen did not stand aside and began to make deflectors for their own needs in their workshops. It turned out to be profitable - having a galvanized sheet, tools and metal at hand, you can save up to 40 USD. e. at the deflector installation.

To work, you need a tool:

  1. Ruler, tape measure, marker, drawing set.
  2. Metal shears, mallet, riveter or drill-end self-tapping screws with a press washer 15 mm.
  3. Drill with drills.

Material:

  1. Sheet metal 0.3-0.5 mm (galvanized, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.).
  2. Handy metal for rigid fasteners - stud, aluminum, strip, etc.

Calculation of deflector dimensions

This is the most important stage of the whole work. The calculation formulas were derived and tested in practice in a wind tunnel and tied to the actual parameter - the diameter of the channel D.

These data are included in the table, on the basis of which you can calculate a simple deflector for any size, based on the diameter of the channel D.

Progress

After all the calculations are completed, it is necessary to transfer the drawings to the sheet and cut out the details of the product:

  1. Cut out the details with scissors for metal.
  2. Roll up the diffuser body and drill both ends. Then fasten it with rivets.
  3. Rivet the top and bottom cones. The top one will be larger than the bottom one and its edge can be used to attach the "plates" to each other. To do this, you need to cut and bend the legs (6 pcs.) In the edge of the upper cone.
  4. Before assembling the umbrella, do not forget to install the studs in the lower cone for mounting to the diffuser, if the fastening is done on the legs, they can be installed on the outside with rivets.
  5. You can fix the umbrella to the diffuser using studs or aluminum plates. If there are studs, for them you need to make loops on the deflector body - go around the stud with a galvanized patch and make mounting holes in it.
  6. After assembling the device, install it. To do this, it is best to remove the upper section of the pipe and mount the structure on a workbench, and then install it back. Mounting method - studs or paws.

Remember that the connections must be reliable, as the deflector is subjected to significant wind loads.

A self-made reflector has no decorative value, but the benefits of installing it are obvious - increased traction by 20-25%, protection of the roof from sparks. In addition, it replaces an additional 1.5-2 meters of pipe height. Whichever deflector you choose, you will feel the benefits of installing it already in the coming heating season.

To ensure good draft in the chimney, it is necessary to install a structure that can increase the rate of removal of combustion products from the flue. Therefore, if you are the owner of a house or an extension with stove heating or a ventilation shaft, then you need a turbo deflector. With it, you can not only increase traction, but also protect the chimney from penetration carbon monoxide, debris or precipitation, as well as to prevent the back draft effect. The cost of such a device is quite high. However, you can save money by making a turbo deflector with your own hands, using improvised materials and tools.

Types of deflectors

There are several types of deflectors. They differ from each other in form and number of details. In this case, the materials that are used to create them, you can choose to your taste. It could be:

  1. Cink Steel
  2. Stainless steel

Their shape can be very diverse: from cylindrical to round. The upper part of the deflector design may have an umbrella in the form of a cone or gable roof. Also, the device can be equipped with different decorative elements, for example, a weather vane.

Let's take a closer look at a few varieties:

  • TsAGI deflector

A structure whose parts are connected by a flange or otherwise. Such a device is made of stainless steel, less often - of galvanized. Its feature is a cylindrical shape.

  • Round Wolper

In its form it resembles the TsAGI deflector, but its main difference is the upper part. Such a device is most often installed on chimneys in small outbuildings, for example, in baths.

  • Grigorovich deflector

If the facility is located in an area with low wind, then such a device will provide excellent traction for many years. Experts call it a modified version of the TsAGI deflector.

  • Poppet Astato

This type of device is distinguished by its simplicity and efficiency. Such a deflector open type made of galvanized or stainless steel, which improves the efficiency of traction in any wind direction.

  • H-shaped deflector

Its design is particularly reliable, as the deflector is made of stainless steel, and all parts are connected by a flange method. It can be installed in areas with any wind direction.

  • Weather vane-deflector

This version of the device is the most popular and widespread. It has a rotating body, on which a small weather vane is fixed. Manufactured from stainless steel construction.

  • Rotating deflector

Such a device allows you to provide maximum protection of the channel from clogging with debris and precipitation. Rotation is in one direction only. It is worth noting that it is necessary to monitor its condition, since during icing, as well as in calm, the deflector will not work. Therefore, many install it on gas boilers. It is also used as a rotary turbine, which is necessary for the ventilation of residential and office visits.

In addition, there is a Khanzhonkov deflector. However, it is not currently used, as more modified device models can be found on the market.

Principle of operation

The classic deflector consists of several parts:

  1. cylinder
  2. diffuser
  3. an umbrella that protects the chimney from the penetration of debris and precipitation
  4. ring bumpers that are mounted at the bottom of the device and around it

The device is installed on the chimney, which allows it to create an obstacle to the air flow. Thus, the wind is broken up into a huge number of small air currents, which have a very low intensity. This is necessary so that the wind flow captures the smoke that exits the smoke channel, which allows you to increase the draft. In addition, the deflector does not allow the shock gas coming out of the pipe to get back.

According to experts, if the chimney is not properly located at the facility, the deflector cannot work at full capacity, so be sure to check the correct installation of the channel before installation.

Also, the deflector can serve as a ventilation turbine, which is installed in systems with natural ventilation. Next, we will tell you in detail how to make a ventilation deflector with your own hands.

Do-it-yourself turbo deflector

If you want to save your money and make a turbo deflector yourself, then you need to prepare everything to get started. necessary materials, tools and drawings of all parts.

Required Tools

  • Steel sheet. It can be stainless or galvanized. The thickness should be between 0.5 and 1 mm.
  • Scissors for cutting metal.
  • Riveter.
  • Drill and drill bits for metal.
  • Several sheets of cardboard.

Drawing preparation

Before you start manufacturing parts, you need to make a detailed drawing of the future deflector. If you want to make a device quickly, we recommend using ready-made drawings from the Internet. At the same time, be sure to check that all parameters match the necessary ones and suit your specific case.

If you want to make a deflector drawing yourself, you can use our tips and tricks to help you do it as correctly as possible.

Landing diameter Width Height base height
160 270 260 70
200 290 290 70
250 350 345 110
300 400 365 110
315 400 365 110
355 450 385 110
400 495 465 140
500 615 635 225
630 790 700 250

The basis of the drawing is the inner diameter of the chimney. After obtaining its size, you need to select the height of the deflector, as well as the width of the diffuser.

If your dimensions do not match those indicated in the table, then you can calculate them yourself in accordance with the proportions:

  • The height of the deflector should be between 1.6 and 1.7 times the inside diameter of your chimney.
  • The width of the diffuser should be between 1.2 and 1.3 internal diameters.
  • The width of the deflector should reach from 1.7 to 10 of the internal diameter of the channel.

After that, you need to make a detailed drawing of the future deflector on a Whatman paper in accordance with the characteristics that you calculated. The drawing can be done manually with a pencil or in Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. All parts must be actual size.

If you cannot prepare a drawing yourself, contact the specialists who will take all the measurements and short time prepare the necessary drawing.

An example of a drawing that should turn out:

Instruction

After you have made a detailed drawing, you need to cut out each piece from paper.

Once all paper blanks are ready, they need to be fixed on a sheet of stainless or galvanized steel. Circle each piece with a marker. You can also use special chalk for metal coatings for this.

With the help of scissors for cutting metal, every detail is cut out. It is worth noting that on cuts the edges must be bent by about 5 mm. To do this, use pliers. After that, use a hammer to beat off the bends. This is necessary so that the edges of future parts become twice as thin.

Roll the blank of the future diffuser into a cylinder. Next, drill holes to secure the parts with bolts or rivets. Some recommend using semi-automatic welding, which will not allow you to burn metal sheets through.

Do the same with the outer cylinder, and roll the blank for the cap into a conical shape and connect the ends with a riveter.

Next, it is necessary to cut 3-4 lines from the remnants of steel sheets, the width of which is about 6 cm and the length is 20 cm. Fold them on both sides with an indent of 6 cm. Drill several holes for the bolts at a distance of 5 cm from the edge. Fasten them on the cap. After that, use the rivets and connect them first to the outer cylinder, and then to the cap.

Installation

Once your diffuser is completely ready, it must be installed on the chimney. This can be done in two ways:

  • Installation on the chimney itself.
  • Installation on a pipe, which is then put on the chimney channel.

Users on the Internet note that the second method of installing a turbo deflector is safer due to the fact that all the most complex procedures can be performed in advance, and finished structure quickly install on the roof.

Therefore, we will tell you how to install in this way:

  1. First of all, you need to prepare the pipe itself. Its diameter should be slightly larger than the diameter of the chimney. At one end, you need to retreat about 15 cm and mark the places for drilling. The same must be done on the bottom of the deflector.
  2. After that, drill holes in both parts and check if they match.
  3. Fix the pipe and deflector with bolts.
  4. Next, you can put the finished structure on the chimney and secure it firmly with a clamp so that there are no gaps.

If you want to provide additional protection, you can treat the joints with a sealant that is resistant to high temperatures.

Making a Grigorovich deflector with your own hands

materials

For the manufacture of the Grigorovich deflector, it is necessary to prepare the following materials:

  • A sheet of galvanized or stainless steel, the thickness of which should reach up to 1 mm.
  • Metal rivets or bolts.
  • Paper or thick cardboard to create a drawing of a future product.
  • Scissors for cutting metal.
  • Drill and drill bits for metal.
  • Riveter.

Stages of creation

First you need to prepare a drawing on a sheet of drawing paper. As in the previous version, the inner diameter of the chimney is taken as the basis. Next, you need to calculate the following parameters in the ratios:

  • The height of the structure should be approximately 1.7 times the diameter.
  • The width of the protective Santa should be 2 times the inner diameter of the chimney.
  • The width of the diffuser should be approximately 1.3 diameters.

After that, you need to prepare a drawing, which should look something like this:

Bend about 5 mm from each edge to secure the parts. Beat off each bend with a hammer, reducing its thickness by about 2 times. Drill 2-3 holes in them and connect the parts together so that the diffuser has the shape of a cylinder, and the protective umbrella is a cone.

As in the previous instructions, make several strips and use them to connect the cap and the diffuser itself.

Recently, fans of renewable energy sources prefer vertical designs of windmills. Horizontal ones go down in history. The point is not only that it is easier to make a vertical wind generator with your own hands than a horizontal one. The main motive for this choice is efficiency and reliability.

Benefits of a vertical windmill

1. The vertical design of the windmill catches the wind better: there is no need to determine where it is blowing from and orient the blades to the air flow. 2. The installation of such equipment does not require its high location, which means that it will be easier to maintain a vertical windmill with your own hands. 3. The design contains fewer moving parts, which improves its reliability. 4. The optimal profile of the blades increases the efficiency of the windmill. 5. The multi-pole generator used to generate electricity is less noisy.

Let's talk about how to make parts and assemble a vertical wind generator with your own hands.

Do-it-yourself algorithm for making a turbine

1. Supports (upper and lower) of the blades are two concentric circles of the same size. They are made of ABS plastic - cut with a jigsaw. In one of them (it will be the top one), a hole with a diameter of 300 mm is made.

2. The lower support must rest on the hub, which can be used as a hub passenger car. To connect the parts, you need to mark and drill 4 holes. 3. When assembling a vertical wind generator with your own hands, pay special attention to fastening the blades. A template is needed to correctly position the blades. On the lower support we draw a six-pointed star (Star of David), the corners of which will be on the edge of the circle. We project the drawing onto the upper support. We make the blades from thin sheet metal in the form of a strip 1160 mm long, the width of which is slightly more than the side of the star beam.

4. The blades are fixed with two corners at the top and bottom, while they must be bent so that a quarter of a circle is formed. They are arranged one after another in a circle, setting them on the edges of the rays.

We make a rotor

1. The bases for the rotor with a diameter of 400 mm are cut out of plywood 10 mm thick. Permanent neodymium magnets with high inductance are attached along the outer radius using liquid nails or epoxy glue. They are arranged similarly to the numbers on the watch dial (exactly 12 pieces) with respect to the polarity (it is recommended to mark them). To prevent the magnets from moving out of place, they are temporarily fixed with spacers made of wooden wedges.

2. The second rotor is made similarly and symmetrically to the first. The difference in the polarity of the magnets - it should be opposite.

How to assemble a stator

The stator is assembled from 9 inductors. There should be 3 groups of series-connected coils (3 per group): the end of the previous one is connected to the beginning of the next one (star configuration). Coils are located symmetrically at the vertices of three triangles inscribed in a circle. The winding is carried out with copper wire 0.51 mm in diameter (type - 24 AWG). 320 turns required. This will allow you to get a voltage of 100 V at 120 rpm at the generator output. turbines. Vertical wind generator with your own hands, you can make it with different parameters of the output voltage and current by reducing / increasing the number of turns and the diameter of the stator winding wire. The turns of the coils are wound in the same way. It is necessary to observe the direction of winding and mark its beginning and end. Epoxy glue is applied over the outer coil and electrical tape is wound in four places to prevent unwinding.

Rules and nuances of connecting coils

The ends of the coils must be cleaned of varnish insulation. Connections are made by soldering. The coils prepared in this way are placed on a paper sheet, on which a diagram of their location is applied (in accordance with the position of the permanent magnets of the rotor). Fix them with tape. All free fields of paper (except for the centers of the coils) are sealed with fiberglass, pouring epoxy resin with hardener. The winding leads must be located outside or inside the stator. Holes are made in the stator to mount the bracket.

Final assembly and installation

The following are assembled on one axis (from top to bottom): the lower support of the blades, the disk with permanent magnets (the upper base of the rotor), the stator, the lower base of the rotor and the hub. All components are attached with studs to the bracket. We use stainless steel bolts for good contact. Having finalized the rest of the little things, we get the finished device. Do-it-yourself vertical windmill should be installed in an open area, where the wind force is greatest. It is desirable that there are no tall buildings nearby. Then the wind generator will generate electricity efficiently, which will help save money.

tributary clean air ventilation system provides the premises. Its effectiveness depends on internal traction. If dust and debris enter the air ducts, the normal operation of the devices is disrupted. To eliminate such a possibility, a ventilation deflector is installed at the outlet of the pipe - a device that forms draft in the ventilation ducts . What is such a unit for? – This device is able to protect the air duct shafts from moisture, snow and rain.

note! The absence of this solution leads to a gradual decrease in the diameter of the pipe due to the fact that small particles of debris, dust and grease accumulate on the walls of the pipes..

A wide range of models is on sale. Their device and principle of operation are discussed below. The simplest models can be made by hand.

    Show all

    Ventilation deflector device

    Each turbo deflector for ventilation consists of several functional elements:

    • metal glasses (there are 2 in the standard version);
    • fixing brackets for secure fastening;
    • supply and discharge pipe, which is put on the pipe and fastened with a clamp.

    The shape of the outer glass differs in shape, expanding at the bottom. As for the bottom, it is absolutely flat. The cylinders are put on one on top of the other, and a cover is fixed on the racks at the top.

    Attention! The diameter of the lid must be larger than the outlet opening to avoid rain falling into the system.

    The figure below shows the components different types structures.

    note! The installation of the rebounds is carried out in such a way that the street air creates an additional suction through the recesses between adjacent rings. Thanks to this, it is possible to speed up the removal of "heavy oxygen" from the ventilation system..

    The deflector devices in the ventilation system of the house are implemented in such a way that when air flows from the bottom to the top, the device does not work well: it is reflected from the roof surface, after which oxygen rushes to the gases exiting at the top of the hole. This disadvantage is typical for all units. To eliminate it, 2-cone solutions are required, interconnected by a "bridge".

    If the wind has a lateral direction, then the output of air masses is carried out both from below and from above. The vertical orientation of oxygen promotes outflow from below.

    What is a turbo deflector? Ventilation without electricity. Replacement of conventional ventilation system

    The principle of operation of the ventilation deflector

    The ventilation deflector works according to a simple principle, regardless of the design and model of the device:

    • directed wind currents hit the metal hulls;
    • due to diffusers, the air branches, as a result of which the pressure level decreases;
    • in the pipe of the system, the thrust increases.

    The principle of operation of the device

    The greater the resistance created by the base of the case, the more efficient the outflow of air in the channels of the systems. It is generally accepted that the device installed on the roof at a slight inclination to the horizontal plane works better. Experts state that the effectiveness of these devices is determined by 3 factors:

    • the design and shape of the hull;
    • unit size;
    • installation height.

    No matter how reliable and high-quality ventilation deflectors are, they have both advantages and disadvantages, which I would like to dwell on in more detail.

    About the "pros" and cons of deflectors

    As mentioned above, umbrella solutions can effectively prevent dirt and precipitation from entering the air ducts. With proper selection and professional installation of the deflector, ventilation improves. The efficiency of the system as a whole is increased by 20%.

    The ventilation device helps to create or increase air draft in the exhaust ventilation ducts

    Advice! For regions with weak winds, it is recommended to equip the system with a device to increase the air supply and exhaust. It will eliminate the effect of "overturning" thrust.

    The devices are not without drawbacks: with a vertical wind direction, the flow comes into contact with the upper section of the structure, while the air cannot be fully discharged into the street. To eliminate such an effect, designs with 2 cones were invented. IN winter period frost appears on the base of the pipes, so it is necessary to regularly carry out preventive examinations.

    Types of deflectors

    After analyzing or taking a quick look at the types of deflectors on the market, one can come to a state of slight confusion at the number of solutions available.

    From the point of view of the design of the device, it is customary to divide into several types:

    • TsAGI - thrust is enhanced due to air and thermal pressure, high-altitude pressure drop. It is mounted directly in the ventilation duct, which makes routine inspections and cleaning difficult;
    • spherical or round (such as "Volper");
    • Khanzhenkov's solutions in the form of an open plate - the main structural difference lies in the additional wall located around the air duct. The exhaust hood has the shape of a plate;
    • rotary products (hood, net) - a wind chute that rotates on a special rod. Due to turbulence, the thrust in the channel increases;
    • units operating according to the principle described by Grigorovich;
    • in the form of a star.

    From the point of view of simplicity of design and the possibility of implementation, Grigorovich's ventilation device holds unconditional leadership. It consists of several pairs of umbrellas arranged in one "plate", which is mounted above the channel wall.

    Grigorovich's device

    In the last 2-3 years, a variety of products have been found on sale that do not have a clear belonging to any type: a rotating deflector with spiral blades, an umbrella, units on bearings.

    When choosing a particular model, paramount attention is paid to its design. This is one of the key parameters of the product. Having decided on the constructive type of the device, it is selected optimal size unit for a particular case. It is easier to choose the right apparatus if you answer a simple question - why the structure is installed and for what object.

    Top Models:

    • ASTATO;
    • TsAGI plate type.

    When choosing, take into account the coefficient of losses and rarefaction of air. It follows that these values depend on the specific model. If we are talking about solutions of the DS type, the corresponding coefficient will be 1.4. Obviously, the degree of air rarefaction depends on the wind speed, see Table. below:

    Device selection table

    Do-it-yourself ventilation deflector

    Knowing about the device and the principle of operation of the device, many owners decide to make a ventilation deflector with their own hands. From the point of view of his own implementation, the version of Grigorovich's product is unrivaled, so we will consider the implementation of this particular version. The main advantage is that such ventilation works without electricity, all year round.

    You must first prepare:

    • stainless steel sheet type, can be replaced with galvanized;
    • electric drill;
    • fixing clamps, bolts, rivets and nuts;
    • drawing tool for metal surfaces;
    • compass;
    • sheet cardboard;
    • ruler;
    • scissors for metal and paper.

    Calculation of device parameters (Grigorovich)

    We give you the simplest calculation option, without any formulas:

    • the height of the deflector is equal to 1.6 of the diameter of the chimney.
    • the width of the diffuser is 1.2 times greater than the diameter of the chimney.
    • the width of the cover is equal to two diameters of the chimney.

    Based on the available dimensions and drawings, individual elements of the deflector are cut out of cardboard. To create a rotating device, certain skills are required, so it is better to practice on mock-ups and only then proceed to a metal counterpart.

    Construction manufacturing

    Patterns must be attached to metal sheets, and then circled with a scriber. Further, the algorithm is simple - with metal scissors we cut out the elements and details of the future design. Separate parts are interconnected with rivets and bolts. If the mechanism is active, then it is better to fix the parts by welding.

    Baffle layouts for ventilation systems from cardboard

    To securely fasten the rotational hood, several curved metal strips should be prepared, which will take on the role of brackets.

    We fix the brackets with rivets or bolts

    As for the reverse cone, it makes sense to fix it at the umbrella.

    Deflector

    Installation work

    The lower of the 2 glasses is installed on the outlet chimney. The top glass is attached to it. For a greater stability design, 2 parts are clamped with a clamp, the same is done with exhaust holes. The cap is pressed with prepared brackets. If we are talking about a region where the wind direction often changes, it makes sense to equip the unit with a reverse cone, which will allow the unit to fully operate in any wind direction.

    So, in this article we examined what a deflector is in ventilation. Summing up, we can say that this is a simple and effective device that improves the ventilation of objects of any complexity, be it public buildings or residential buildings. A small element increases the performance of the ventilation system by 15-20%, reliably protecting the interior from precipitation, small particles, debris and dust.

in channels and ducts. But over time, debris can get into the shaft, the channels can simply become clogged with dust, which adheres firmly to their walls, especially if they have a greasy coating. All this reduces the diameter of the air ducts, which negatively affects the operation of the entire ventilation system.

That is why many homeowners install special devices called deflectors on the heads of the ventilation pipes.

Features of the device

installed to increase draft in air ducts, mines and channels. This device, deflecting the air currents created by the wind, creates a zone of low pressure at the outlet of the ventilation system. air masses, located in the pipe, trying to compensate for the vacuum, rise to the head of the pipe, thereby increasing traction.

This is a description of the principle of operation of all deflectors, of which there are a huge number of designs. Many devices not only deflect air currents, but also increase the speed of their passage over the head of the ventilation pipe, by narrowing the channel, thereby significantly increasing the draft (airbrush principle).

Proper use of the deflector helps to increase the performance of the entire ventilation system by up to 20%, it is especially useful on ventilation ducts with large horizontal sections and bends.

In addition, the deflector on the ventilation pipe perfectly protects against the ingress of various debris, small birds, insects, and most importantly, atmospheric precipitation. Basically, the material from which these devices are made is resistant to corrosion. It is galvanized or stainless steel, ceramic or plastic.

Existing types of deflectors

To date, there are a huge number of different designs of such devices. Among them, the most popular models are:

  • - an effective and simple structural device for redirecting the wind.
  • - also a very popular deflector design.
  • H-shaped device for effective increase of draft in ventilation and chimneys.

In addition, they are often used various designs open deflectors both on the heads of ventilation and chimneys.

All varieties of models can be classified according to some distinctive qualities:

  • According to the shape of the top of the device.
  • Rotating (rotary or turbine).
  • Deflectors-weathervanes.

In addition to such a common material as metal, these devices are made of plastic. The plastic ventilation deflector is less durable than its steel counterpart, but has a lower cost and a more sophisticated appearance.

That is why plastic fixtures adorn the ventilation shafts of most private houses. But he, besides the service life, has another serious drawback. Doesn't take plastic high temperatures, so it is not recommended to use it on chimneys.

Weathercocks - deflectors are usually installed on chimneys, but they are quite suitable for ventilation systems. The air flow, passing through the system of peaks and slots in the body of the product, is redirected due to which a zone of low pressure is created above the pipe. It should be recalled that the weather vane has such a design that allows this apparatus to be constantly turned, the working side to the wind.

Rotating due to its design not only enhances the draft in the ventilation shaft, but also effectively protects it from various debris and insects. This device, as a rule, has a spherical shape, therefore it stands out among all with its original design.

There is another original type of ventilation deflector - rotational, or as it is also called turbine. This device converts the energy of air flows into the rotational movement of the turbine, which spins the air, according to the principle of a tornado, thereby creating an increase in traction in the duct. This device shows excellent results even in the warm season, creating traction in the ventilation system.

Making the simplest do-it-yourself device

Despite the complexity of the design, everyone can make a deflector with their own hands House master. It's enough just to have necessary tools and materials. For self-manufacturing this device will need:

  • A sheet of thick paper or cardboard.
  • Sheet of galvanized metal.
  • Drawing of the deflector with calculations regarding the diameter of the pipe.
  • Rivet gun.
  • Metal scissors.
  • Drill with a set of drills.
  • Marker or scriber.

After preparing the tool, material and personal protective equipment (glasses, gloves), you can start making a ventilation deflector with your own hands.

  1. First of all, you should transfer the contours of the product from the drawing to the metal. There should be a sweep of all the main parts of the device: a cap, a diffuser, an external cylinder, racks.
  2. After that, you need to cut out all parts of the device, according to the resulting pattern.
  3. Connect all parts of the device, according to the drawing or sketch, using a rivet gun.
  4. Connect the two parts of the deflector using racks cut from the same metal.

After manufacturing, you can install the deflector on the pipe head, carefully securing it with clamps.

Advice:
The deflector will create additional traction in the channels only if all its parts are made to a certain size. It should be remembered that the installation should be carried out while working at height, so it is better to do this with two people and with insurance. If you are not confident in your abilities, contact professionals who have experience in the manufacture and installation of these necessary devices.
