The essence of the work of the breather is very simple. A hole of sufficient diameter is made in the wall of the house so that a medium-sized elephant can stick its trunk through it. A device is hung on this hole, which draws in fresh outside air, cleans it, heats it if necessary and supplies it to the room:

The effect of the breather is very pleasant - the room is ventilated all the time, as if the windows are constantly open, and the humidity level is high enough that there is no need for a separate humidifier. At the same time, the breather does not let in drafts, noise, or street dust, so we get all the benefits of fresh air, but without the disadvantages of open windows.

Of the minuses - the breather takes up space on the wall, the breather makes a little noise during operation, the breather is powered by electricity, which costs money. Filters, again, occasionally need to be changed to new ones. The cons do not outweigh the pros, so I recommend the device for installation:

Now about the new model of the breather (Tion 3S), which I installed a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I doubted that the new model would be different from the old one, but there really are differences - both for better and for worse:

1. The main difference is a small box of MagicAir, which is hung on the wall or placed on a shelf. It controls all devices in the house via radio. This thing is configured in a few minutes, after which you can set the operating modes for all the breathers in the apartment and forget about them:

I once specified in the settings that the breather should turn on when the carbon dioxide content in the air exceeds 800 ppm, and now the breather only works at night when my lungs fill the bedroom with carbon dioxide.

Electricity, respectively, is also spent less. In summer it doesn't matter, because if the breather does not need to heat the air, it consumes only 18 watts, like a small light bulb. In winter, however, energy consumption is greater, at maximum power, when heated from -40 to +25 degrees, the power increases already to 1.45 kW, which is significant. For St. Petersburg (where the temperature rarely drops below -20 in winter), you can count on 300 rubles a month, on an average annual basis. MagicAir saves some of that money.

I also set a limit, forbidding the breather to run faster than the first speed. Thanks to this, the breather is always quiet and does not wake me up, even if it has to turn on at 3 am.

In my opinion, this is exactly how all smart home systems should work - once you quickly set it up, and then the smart home does everything on its own, without requiring attention from the owner. I repeat once again: there are no wires there, I connected the devices via a radio channel and forgot.

By the way, the old breather, Tion O2, can also be connected to MagicAir. In some modifications, there are already special modules for this, but in my breather, such a module will need to be ordered separately. This is my plan for the near future.

2. The old breather is easier. It is clearer, it can be removed from the wall in one movement to show the guests the hole leading out. Guests invariably look inside and admire the flow of fresh air.

The new breather, alas, is pressed against the wall with two self-tapping screws, so I don’t want to remove it without much need.

3. The new breather looks better, fits better into the interior. In addition, it has a compartment inside where you can wind an extra power cable so that it does not hang down and does not take up extra space on the wall.

4. The old breather shows directly on the screen how many days are left until the filter is replaced. The new breather has to go deep into the application for this information.

5. The old breather smelled like freshly unpacked equipment for the first few days. The new Breezer smelled nothing from the very beginning.

6. The new breather is quieter. The old breather was slightly audible even at the first speed, the new one at the first speed is audible only if you come close to it.

It’s not that that noise really bothered me, for my taste, moderate “white” noise is sometimes even better than total silence, especially since the maximum 32 decibels at first speed is something between a needle drop and a quiet whisper. However, since I undertook to compare, it should be noted that the new breather is quieter.

As a price for silence, we received hard foam spacers that take up the entire volume of the new breather. When changing the filter, they will have to be removed and then inserted back.

7. The new breather was installed faster, and it was installed by one person, and not two, like last time. It is clear that this is the merit of more qualified installers, and not a breather, but nevertheless, there is a difference.

8. The inlets of the old and new breathers are located differently. I hung the old breather from the bedroom to the study, and in the bedroom there was a fragment of damaged wallpaper, which was previously covered with an old breather. I masked this fragment with a MagicAir box.

Breathers also blow out air in different ways, the old one from the bottom, the new one from the top. From the top, in my opinion, it's better - fresh air is right under the ceiling and then slowly sinks down. However, in the office where I moved the old breather, the old version turned out to be more convenient.

9. The new Breezer (Tion 3S) has a remote control with a screen and a mount to hang it on the wall. The old breather (Tion O2) has a remote control without a screen and without a mount, it's not so convenient.

On the other hand, the remote control is needed only for those who do not have the MagicAir system, manual control is practically not used in the presence of automatic control: everything is configured once through the application on the smartphone, then you can forget about the breathers, they work independently.

Let me summarize

Our Skolkovo is often scolded - they say, nothing is being done there. The reproaches are not entirely fair; Skoltech still managed to breathe life into many projects. The MagicAir system was created exactly there:

I think MagicAir has great export potential. One of the advantages of Russian technology is convenient, intuitive interfaces, which is very important for smart home systems. Neither our Western partners, nor even Asian engineers, are able to make things really convenient.
