Follow the selection criteria for the selection, taking into account the size, material, functionality, design.

Advantages of wooden furniture

One of the main questions that concerns buyers is the type of material from which the product is made. In the matter of choosing a material, be picky, scrupulous, since the quality of a night's rest depends on the choice.

What should you pay attention to?

When choosing a place to stay, you should keep in mind one basic rule, bedroom furniture, as a rule, is updated no more than once every 10 years.

Attention should be paid to strength, resistance to rocking.

One of the best options is solid wood. This natural material is not only of high quality, but is environmentally friendly.

Solid wood looks noble in the interior of the bedroom, can become bright decoration in the interior of the bedroom and will serve its owners for many years.

Of course, such material is currently considered expensive, but positive traits the array is worth it.

A sleeping place made of wood will serve its owners for a long time. At the moment, wooden beds are at the peak of popularity.

Carved patterns can easily fit into a classic interior, will be appropriate in a Scandinavian modern style, perfect for romantic designs like vintage or patchwork .

It is also worth noting that, despite their weightless design, such beds are highly durable and durable.

Which beds are the most popular?

The market was filled with MDF products. This material has many advantages and affordable price and therefore became the most common.

However, furniture is made from chipboard, veneer, plywood, wood and other materials.

The manufacturer can offer the client various options:

  • unpainted;
  • toned;
  • smooth veneer.

With its help it is possible to achieve natural shades.

Bed-frame

The budget option includes a frame-bed. You can install it even on uneven surfaces, because the legs are adjustable in height.

with lifting mechanism

  • This design is convenient to install in a narrow bedroom, as it provides easy access to the laundry compartment.
  • The lifting mechanism has a smooth ride, thanks to which you do not have to apply great physical force when opening it.
  • This bed can be called multifunctional and comfortable.
  • Some parents like a loft bed, with which you can organize a workspace for the child.

Many models are made with desks and sports equipment. What kind of bed do you need?

Double bed from one and a half meters and more

Despite certain standards, the consumer can choose the width of the bed for himself, which depends on age, comfortable sleeping position and even climate, because the hotter the region, the wider the bed should be.

Almost all modern furniture factories make beds under the individual order of the client. In this case, not only the size is taken into account, but it can also create a unique design.

For such beds it is easy to choose a furniture set of any format, size, design and others. design features including luxurious double beds

Double models made of solid wood can not be purchased in every furniture store.

In addition, often in furniture stores a very modest range of these products is presented.

To provide the buyer with a wide choice of double beds, it is necessary to use large retail areas. And not every salon can afford this, so more and more often double beds are purchased on the Internet - in virtual furniture stores.

From solid wood

Double bed made of solid wood furniture production and is especially popular among demanding consumers.

Couches made of timber and boards look especially beautiful in the interior in eco or ethno style, and will also be an indispensable attribute in country house or at the cottage.

From logs

Unfortunately, classic design not compatible with this natural material, like a log and are unlikely to be appropriate in a traditional room.

If the user likes to experiment and mix styles, then log loungers can be combined with glass and wrought iron elements.

From MDF, fiberboard, chipboard

Bedroom furniture made from MDF, fiberboard or chipboard is the most common option among other more reliable materials.

Unlike the above products, such models are inferior in reliability, but are much cheaper.

Moreover, the bed made of this material quickly becomes loose, creaks, and very quickly becomes unusable. But if this furniture is purchased for a short period of time or is used very rarely, such an economy option perfect solution.

Bed-transformer

In addition to the common classic designs, a double bed thanks to bold design ideas has become a multifunctional furniture product, which not only serves as a convenient and comfortable place for good rest, but also is a capacious closet or easily turns into a regular chest of drawers or a closet.

The built-in transformer bed is an ideal solution for small spaces and studio apartments.

This furniture with a flick of the wrist turns into a compact bookshelf or home bar. It takes up very little space and is a kind of know-how in the production of original furniture.

Bed-podium

A catwalk bed, unlike transforming and traditional models, takes up a lot of space in the bedroom. But unlike their furniture relatives, they are considered practical and convenient option, because thanks to a spacious niche they can solve the problem of storing things.

The remains of building materials are paid blanks for the production of home furniture, household items, and simply interesting homemade decorative character. To realize your fantasies, you will need a minimum set of tools and skills that were obtained during the construction of a house or cottage from a log.

Narrowing the spectrum

Without spreading our thoughts, let's dwell on a piece of furniture that, after the table, occupies the main place in the furniture hierarchy - these are beds. It turns out that they can also be made from ordinary logs at home.

But here you still have to choose between several types of beds:

  • Beds completely assembled from logs;
  • Combined assembly beds, here, in addition to logs, there is a board, sometimes plywood or OSB;
  • Beds made of logs with decorative headboards.

Let's start with the choice of material

Practice shows, no matter how meticulously the material for building a house is chosen, segments that are:

  • Or they have wood defects in the form of knots and cracks;
  • Or those that have received deformations and defects as a result of improper transportation, storage and other technological violations;
  • Also, material with a clear change in the color of the wood goes to the scrap.

Advice!
The bed will not experience such loads as the wall of a log house, will not be subjected to harsh atmospheric influences.
Therefore, if, during the sanding of wood, the log acquires its natural color, the cracks are not deep, and will not affect the supporting properties of the log, then such material can be safely taken to work.

The project is just a log

The bed is assembled only from a log:

Into the piggy bank!
There can be a lot of options for models of such furniture structures, so in this section we cover only basic issues related to the methods of fixing logs and the possibilities of obtaining certain modules.

  1. Frame assembly.
    Here it is possible to apply several assembly techniques at once:
    • Creating a box of 2-3-4 crowns using the “paw” or “bowl” method;

Note!
The “into the bowl” method is less in demand, since the bed frame will be much wider than the bed itself.
However, if the room is large enough and the interior is formed using decor in a folk or fairy-tale style, this technique is appropriate.

    • Leg shaping. Legs in beds are not a mandatory attribute, but given the need for air circulation, it is better to make them;

Advice!
If you do not make legs from vertically located logs, then in the lower log you can make a notch 3/5 of the length in the center up to half the log high.
This will be quite enough for normal air circulation.

    • Fixing logs to each other. In addition to the corner assembly by the indicated methods, the fixation of the logs is carried out with dowels. At the same time, one dowel can reliably strengthen the logs of the entire structure or the back or side parts at once.

  1. Preparing the recess for the mattress.
    To prepare a place for the mattress, you will have to do the following:
    • In the upper log, prepare semicircular grooves with a step in the width of the stacked half-log;
    • We cut the logs, which will play the role of supports, with a mini circular saw along;
    • We lay the half-logs in the grooves and fasten them with self-tapping screws of the required length.
  1. Back extensions. Usually one or two segments of logs are enough to form the backs, but their number can be large. The connection of logs in the backs also occurs with the help of dowels.

For your information!
There is a technique for forming legs with vertically standing logs, while cuttings are made in the logs themselves to fix both the side logs and the logs that form the back.
In this case, a log bed resembles a regular one.
The parts are connected with self-tapping screws for furniture, or with bolts, which is more reliable.

We start to combine

The assembly of the bed can be much faster, and the product itself is much prettier, if you use boards in addition to logs.

In this case, the board can go both to form a bed under the mattress, and to form the side walls.

Advice!
For frame construction the best option is a wooden board 50 mm thick, a 30 mm board is enough to hold the mattress.

  • There are several connection options, but the basic techniques are the same. To form the frame, the boards are joined with special grooves, their fixation in the log-legs also occurs in the prepared grooves;
  • To hold perpendicular boards in the side boards, you can: prepare grooves, attach with inside bars for fixing, just nail the board on top.

For your information!
When combining materials, the number of perpendicular boards can be reduced, and the step of their fixation can be increased by laying fragments of plywood or OSB on them, which formed either floors or partitions.

Decor in furniture

The most common decoration option is the use of curved branches and tree trunks.

A fancy grid is formed from them, to which a certain edging is attached, or it fits into the prepared frame-back.

For your information!
If you want to decorate your bed in this way, then do not forget to remove the bark and not only dry yourself.
Then you can cover the composition with varnish and stain. Although the do-it-yourself wood processing option is applicable to all wooden structures.

Finally

Log furniture is reliable, natural and beautiful. The instructions have already been described, there is a small nuance left before the video in this article will reveal the topic visually. Here he is.

A do-it-yourself log bed is not only an affordable option for bedroom equipment, but also a very stylish piece of furniture. But in order to create a comfortable and reliable bed made of logs or boards, it is necessary to strictly follow the technology of its manufacture and prepare all the necessary tools in advance. It is important to choose the right not only the size of the materials, but also the type of wood.

The design of a wooden bed can be created in various styles:

  1. Classical. The bed stands on legs and has rectangular shape. The design includes backs of various sizes. The product can be supplemented with columns of various configurations and heights.
  2. Empire. The product has a rectangular shape and low legs. The back of a large size and angular type is present at the head of the bed.
  3. Baroque. The bed has a massive size and a lot of voluminous carved elements. The back of the headboard is large. The back at the legs is thin and rarely extends beyond the mattress. But at the same time, it also has many carved scrolls and figures.
  4. Ethnic, or oriental. The bed frame is placed on a wide podium. Legs and decorative elements missing. The design has a clear rectangular shape.
  5. Rustic. The beds are made from non-rounded solid trunks and branches that have undergone minimal processing. Individual models beds can even be created with wood with bark or knots not removed. In most cases, products are completed with columns and cannot be painted.
  6. Colonial. The design has massive legs and is often equipped with high posts for canopies. The backs are distinguished by their massiveness and the presence of large volumetric decorative elements.
  7. Minimalism. A design of this type may not have legs and backs. The bed has a small height and consists exclusively of a frame.

There are also many bed designs created by combining various styles. At the same time, the simplest designs for execution are log beds in the style of minimalism, classic and rustic. However, given the importance of having legs in the structure to allow air to circulate, and the need for a pleasant tactile feel, the best option for self-manufacturing there will be a bed in a classic style.

The main criteria for choosing wood

When creating a log bed, it is very important to pay special attention to the selection of wood. In this case, the main criteria that the log must meet are:

  • material strength;
  • Ease of wood processing;
  • Price availability of lumber;
  • Pleasant tactile sensations from contact with the tree;
  • resistance to deformation;
  • the integrity of the wood.

The most suitable tree varieties for work are:

  • Birch;
  • Pine;
  • Maple;
  • Larch;
  • Alder;
  • Aspen;
  • Cedar;
  • Ash.

However, given the fact that some types of trees often provoke allergies, it is better not to use them in creating beds. Based on this, the most acceptable material is cedar, larch and pine.

When choosing wood, the color of the breed plays the least role, since the finished product can be easily repainted with a tint varnish.

Manufacturing technology of a standard bed

Creating a solid wood bed with your own hands is carried out in several successive stages:

  1. Preparation necessary tools and materials.
  2. Carrying out calculations of the number of required consumables and their sizes.
  3. Pre-treatment of lumber.
  4. Frame manufacturing.
  5. Assembly and installation of the back and legs.

The final stage of work is the processing of the finished product with protective solutions, as well as decorating the bed.

Mounting tools

To work on creating a bed of logs, you will need the following tools:

  • Roulette;
  • Pencil;
  • building corner;
  • Level;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Axe;
  • Plane;
  • Bit;
  • Grinder machine. The tool can be replaced with sandpaper of various grain sizes;
  • Chisel;
  • mallet;
  • sheet pile;
  • Hex key;
  • Electric jigsaw;
  • Electric drill.

Also, to work with boards, you will need a hacksaw for wood.

Calculations

To calculate the required amount of consumables, as well as the dimensions of lumber, it is necessary to draw up a drawing of the future design. In this case, ready-made detailed diagram beds. Using it, the parameters of the product can be easily proportionally changed, thus reaching the required dimensions of the bed.

The diagram must indicate not only the dimensions of the future bed made of rounded or chopped logs, but also the attachment points of the combined elements. For complex structures, it is recommended to create drawings of the future product in different projections.

To calculate the dimensions of the bed, you can focus on the size of the existing mattress. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that a sleeping place is comfortable, which completely accommodates the width of a person with hands closed in the abdomen, and at the same time there is a margin of 20-25 cm from the elbows to the edge of the bed or bed.

Material pretreatment

Before starting work on creating a bed from chopped solid wood, lumber must be further processed. The pre-finishing of the material consists of the following procedures:

  1. When buying whole logs, the bark must be removed from the lumber. This is done with a mallet and a chisel or axe. The bark can only be left in cases where it does not show signs of damage. Such logs cannot be polished, but are only carefully soaked with stain in 3-4 layers and opened with varnish. However, the use of beds made from logs with bark often ends in injury. Because upper layer wood is still better to remove.
  2. Sanding logs with medium grit sandpaper. Thus, the top layer of wood is removed, updating it after storage in warehouses. Also, this stage allows you to further smooth out the unevenness of the lumber and prepare the tree for deep impregnation.
  3. Impregnation of lumber with wood stain. When using the solution, not only the coloring of the wood in the desired shade is ensured, but also its additional disinfection.

You can use both rounded and chopped logs in the manufacture of the bed. As an additional lumber, boards are used to create solid wood beds.

At the end preparatory phase logs are trimmed to the required dimensions. If it is planned to manufacture a massive bed from beams, semicircular cuts are made at the ends of the logs, allowing the rounded elements to be tightly placed on top of each other.

Frame manufacturing

When creating the frame of a classic standard bed 2x1.6 m from a solid array, you will need logs 2.2-2.4 m long, with a trunk diameter of at least 20 cm. You will also need boards 10 cm wide and 2.5- 3 cm. The boards must be cut to a length of 1.6 m. They will be required to create support for the mattress.

To mount the support under the frame, you will need bars that will be attached along the inner perimeter of the frame, and one supporting central board.

The assembly of the frame from the bars occurs in the following sequence:

  1. On a hard surface, 4 logs are laid out in the form of a rectangle of a suitable size, 2 of which have cuts. The elements are connected to each other with dowels or self-tapping screws.
  2. Along the inner perimeter of the logs, at the same level in the middle, with the help of self-tapping screws, a support beam is fixed.
  3. In the middle of the frame, at the same level, parallel to the side logs, a support board is fixed.
  4. Boards are laid perpendicular to the sidewalls on the supports, which will serve as lamellas. They are fixed to the supports with self-tapping screws.

The optimal distance between the lamella boards is 4 cm. Instead of boards, you can also use a solid sheet of plywood. However, in this case, the design will be much weaker.

Back and leg attachment

The backs and legs to the bed made of logs can be attached in the form of separate elements, or built up on the frame. For separate production of backs and legs, a pair of logs is exposed vertically at a distance of 1.6 m from each other. From above and 10-20 cm from the floor, they are connected to each other perpendicularly with bars or logs. Elements are fixed with self-tapping screws.

For greater strength of the structure, the perpendicular elements of the backrest can be additionally equipped with stiffeners, in the form of thin bars or rounded logs. The second headboard is made according to the same principle. If desired, it can be built the same or lesser height. Backrests with legs are attached to the frame with self-tapping screws in several places.

When building the back and legs to the body of the bed, 2-4 logs are used as the lower support and 1-3 elements each for the construction of the former. To build up the legs, 2 logs are connected with the help of dowels. The body of the bed is turned upside down and connected logs are fixed along its edges. After that, the structure is turned over to its normal position. At the same time, the legs extended along the edges should look like a continuation of the frame.

The back is made according to the same principle. Holes for dowels are made in the logs at the legs and at the head, and additional logs are fixed on top of them. For strength, such joints are additionally fixed with wood glue, which fills all the seams of the structure.

After assembly, the structure must stand until the adhesive has completely hardened. Only after that you can proceed to the final finishing of the bed.

The final stage

After assembling the entire structure, the logs must be sanded with medium or fine-grained sandpaper. Also, a grinder with an abrasive wheel of 140-220 microns is suitable for this work. After processing, the wood is impregnated with a colorless or tinted stain. When it dries, the product is varnished.

You can add shine to the bed in another way. The wood is treated with several coats of teak oil, then treated with furniture wax and carefully rubbed with a leather sanding wheel. With this treatment, tactile sensations when touching the bed will be much more pleasant.

If you visit any major furniture store, it will always have a wide selection of beds from the most different types and modifications. If you wish and have the opportunity, you can buy any, but it often happens that one or another option does not fit the existing interior of the house, or the bed is too large and bulky, or simply does not suit the quality and style of execution. In this case, there is a difficult, but sometimes the only way out: making a bed out of wood with your own hands.

materials

Because it quality materials serve as a guarantee of furniture durability, if you choose them arbitrarily, there will be much more advantages from this. Of course, making a bed with your own hands will take much more time and effort than just buying it or ordering assembly from professional furniture makers. However, personal choice and constant control over the quality of your creation will eventually bear fruit and pay off with a long service life of such an important piece of furniture made by yourself.

Choosing as a material wood mass, you need to consider that it has a rather high price and certain difficulties in terms of preparatory work and the process of making beds.

In the absence of proper experience with array handling, it is better to choose a more simple options, although any product created, for example, from solid pine or oak, will look very beautiful and differ in enviable strength.

A bed made of natural logs looks very impressive, but here there is both the difficulty of acquiring them, and the unreality of installing such a bed in small rooms.

Taking into account the specifics of working with an array, the most common in use are different types lumber: it will be much easier to create a bed yourself from a bar or planed or cut boards.

The only nuance that you should pay special attention to when buying them is good drying: if the product was originally made from wet timber, when it dries, the structure will begin to creak or deform.

Shield bed- also inexpensive and a good option. Furniture panels are rather massive boards, which are glued together from separate parts of wood.

Such a product will delight you with its beauty and practicality, the strength of the shields allows you to even carve them, but, as in working with solid wood, certain skills will be needed here: furniture panels implies the presence internal stresses which should be handled correctly in practice.

Fine wood fiber fraction (MDF)- an inexpensive and fairly durable material, which, with additional processing (for example, with varnishing), looks quite beautiful.

On sale you can find MDF boards both with and without a finished varnish coating, which will be a significant plus if the manufacturer plans to carry out the processing on his own.

Particleboard or chipboard- also a material familiar to many, which is easy to cut and process, however, it should be borne in mind that it is better to use it not for the manufacture of load-bearing structures of the bed, but for drawers, backs and decorative elements. If the plate is already sold with lamination, you can save a lot of time.

Fittings for a future bed are better to purchase from durable steel than from aluminum. Aluminum elements, of course, is much cheaper, but steel is much stronger, and it would be better not to save on this, but to take care of quality from all sides.

It is important to keep in mind that metal fasteners it will be necessary to twist as the wooden base dries out, and if the fasteners are steel, the bed will take on the entire load at once, and in the future there will be no problems with the strength of the structure.

Choose a size

First of all, it is important to determine the size of the future bed: the comfort of sleep and the availability of proper rest depend on them.

The optimal length of a bed can reach 200 cm, and the width should be selected, depending on individual preferences and physique.

By the way, the usual classification of beds (single, double and "one and a half") was once developed based on the parameters of width, not length, which should be especially taken into account when planning sizes and drawing up a drawing.

A single small bed can have a width of 90 and a length of 80 cm, which is optimal for the manufacture of children's models. You can also consider an option with dimensions of 100x100 cm, if the area of \u200b\u200bthe children's room allows. A bed of 150x150 or 150x190 cm is already close to the parameters of a one and a half bed, however, optimal dimensions for an adult, they are 150 cm wide and 190 cm long. You can also increase them if the room has enough space, and the bed will not look bulky in the overall picture.

When drawing up a drawing, it is also important to take into account the fact that the best bed length for a person of any age should always be 15 cm more than his actual height - with a margin, which will provide maximum comfort and freedom during sleep.

There is one more subtlety that must be taken into account when making a bed: the older the person, the higher it should be.

Of course, an important part of any bed is a mattress. It should be purchased in advance in order to plan all dimensions based on its parameters. A standard orthopedic mattress can be from 1.5 to 2 m, with a height of 25 cm. In extreme cases, you can also make it yourself - from foam rubber and other suitable materials.

Device

A simple bed of beams and boards can be made quite quickly, following a certain algorithm of actions.

For this you will need:

  • boards 2 pcs (dimensions 250x30cm) - for the side walls of the bed;
  • boards 3 pcs (dimensions 200x30cm) - front, back of the bed and headboard;
  • beams 5 pieces 4x4cm, length 200 cm - the supporting structure of the bed and its legs;
  • slats 27 pieces 150x4x2 cm;
  • self-tapping screws and other accessories, depending on the need;
  • varnish, "stain", building glue for wood.

You will also need a small standard set of tools: a screwdriver, electric jigsaw, hacksaw, planer.

To clean the elements - sandpaper, preferably fine-grained, for measurements - a tape measure, for accurate knowledge of the dimensions of the corners - a square, a simple marking pencil.

Cutting a tree should be carried out slowly, having previously made markings on it with a simple pencil, or take a cutter and make marks with it. Usually, in the process of manufacturing elements, you have to make several of the same. In this case, the first part is first cut out, which will serve as a template, and all the rest will already be made based on its parameters.

When sawing, it is necessary to immediately clean it with fine-grained sandpaper.

All corners of the bed must be strictly straight, 90 degrees, therefore, measurements will have to be done often and carefully, and only then fasten the parts together. Otherwise, the bed will not be strong and will quickly break under the weight of the human body. All elements are first carefully glued with building glue and only after that they are securely attached to the tree using self-tapping dowels.

We should not forget to remove the remaining glue, because their presence will greatly complicate the subsequent processing steps.

After cutting all the details, you can proceed directly to the assembly and installation of the bed.

The location of the bars that perform the function of a support must be determined by dividing the length of the front and then the back wall by three. Write down the resulting number. Keep in mind that the mattress should always be at least 5 cm deep in the bed + necessarily another 2 cm (thickness of the rails) and + 4cm (thickness of the bars of the longitudinal elements). The final figure is 11 cm. It should be noted at the top of both walls of the future bed, front and back - there the bars for the main support will be fastened.

The bars are screwed on from the inside. When fastening, it is important to monitor the screws so that they do not “cut through” the surface of the product - in order to avoid damage to the aesthetic appearance of the bed. The length of the screws is usually calculated in advance.

After screwing the bars, 7 cm are measured (from the top of the board for the side parts) and a mark is made with a ruler and a pencil. The bars are screwed to the side of the bed with a retreat of 6 cm on each side. After that, 2 more small pieces of timber are vertically attached to the edge of the bars - with a gap of 20 mm to the edge of the board.

The headboard is mounted to the wall in front. All glued surfaces and edges are carefully smeared with glue. The blanks are glued as tightly as possible so that there are no cracks and unnecessary gaps.

The headboard is reinforced with several slats (usually three). The slats are glued with construction adhesive and additionally screwed. All finished elements are processed with a stain - this way they will acquire the desired color and shade. After staining, as usual, varnish treatment follows, which is recommended to be carried out twice.

After all the elements are ready, we proceed directly to the final assembly. We make a frame, fastening its parts with self-tapping dowels. On the support bars are placed two load-bearing timber, previously screwed to the walls at the back and front - and fixed. To give the structure maximum stability, legs are additionally attached to the supporting bars - it is better to do this from the inside, for the purpose of aesthetics.

The supporting structure is ready and securely fastened and now it is possible to lay and screw the slats, leaving a uniform distance of 4 cm between them. The space between the walls of the bed and the slats must be at least 2 cm. Finally, the backrests are mounted, a mattress is placed on the bed and you can start using it .

Self-made podium

As you know, the catwalk bed in its many variants is becoming more and more popular in our country. Craftsmen-furniture makers invent very interesting and practical ways to install just such structures in any place: from a large country house to the usual small-sized "Khrushchev", where it can be very problematic to place a large amount of furniture. There are plenty of podium models, however, the most compact of them is exactly the one where there are several under-bed drawers for linen and other things.

Due to the fact that the presence of such boxes inside the structure can significantly free up the surrounding space, this version of the podium is the most popular among owners of small apartments and rooms.

Those who want to get a compact podium bed often ask how to make a simple model with drawers with their own hands.

Speaking about the simplicity of this model, a reservation should be made that we are not talking about a monolithic, but about a frame base, which must be as strong as possible in order to withstand the upcoming loads.

Linen drawers located inside the podium or under the bed have the disadvantage of constantly collecting dust, because they are located next to the floor. However, this drawback is usually not taken into account when there is no other way out, but there is a desire to save the surrounding space in the best possible way.

Despite the fact that such a model in everyday life is considered quite simple, a lot will have to be taken into account when planning. The floor has its own mechanics and certain properties, and the partitions of the bed will interact with it all the time. This is another reason why frame structure must have a high degree of strength.

For self-production of this version of the podium bed, it is better to use lumber wood materials. This will ensure the strength of the frame in order to avoid subsequent troubles, moreover, the strength of monolithic bars allows you to "bypass" possible problems with load distribution in the following way.

The spar is calculated by analogy with the design of the frame - the "ridge", which is usually installed on trucks designed for heavy weights.

This means that the frame must be based on a strong and thick beam, which will take all the loads coming from the transverse beams, "splayed" in different directions.

For the manufacture of such a "ridge" it is better to take two large beams 100x50 in size. The remaining beams of the supporting structure are made of 100x100 bars. Other details can be made either also from wood (if time and financial resources permit), or from chipboard, which will go well with any kind of wood materials, provided that it will not be used for the load elements of the bed.

It should be remembered that particle boards, due to their peculiarity to delaminate, do not accept either alternating or concentrated types of load.

However, with a strong desire, you can make a podium bed on a frame completely from chipboard. This will be a panel structure, placed on a cross, which serves as the main support, with a complete absence of small parts. The boards are installed "edge" on the floor and support the flooring from below. The main crosspiece with overlays takes the main part of the entire load.

Of course, the shield plates must be thick enough, at least 30 mm.

The drawers will fit inside, but this option has one significant drawback: due to the fact that it is impossible to arrange the cross in another way, half of the space under the bed will remain unused.

Of the two proposed options for a podium with drawers, you can choose any one that will be the most suitable and possible to manufacture.

How to make a wooden bunk bed?

A wooden bunk bed is a great option when it comes to how to arrange two beds in the nursery or free up as much space as possible for the child in the room. The cheapest and at the same time durable materials that can be used in the manufacture are boards and pine timber.

When calculating the amount of materials and drawing up a drawing, it is important to take into account the distance from the lower tier to the bottom of the upper one - its recommended value is 85 cm. This will provide a comfortable seat for not only a child, but also an adult.

Below are the main elements bunk bed with their standard sizes (one element):

  • vertical racks 38x76x1730 mm;
  • strengthening racks 38x76x1730 mm;
  • elements of the supporting structure (frame) 38x140x2030 mm;
  • headboard slats (bottom and top) 20x140x914 mm;
  • slats for the footboard (bottom and top) 20x140x914 mm;
  • plank in the center (ibid.) 20x90x914 mm;
  • side safety fence 20x90x1800 mm;
  • stair railing 20x90x1510 mm;
  • stair steps 20x64x482 mm.

The supporting frame is assembled from four pre-prepared boards. For the reliability of the frame, an additional bar is longitudinally glued to the board and screwed to it with screws.

The bars glued to the plank that supports the mattress longitudinally will act as a base on which the slats need to be laid across.

Railings for railings are made from a simple processed board, and stair railings are made from boards with the possibility of framing.

The places for fixing the steps must be designated in advance, and during assembly, make sure that the metal elements fixing them do not come into contact with the frame fastening fittings. The foot and head parts of the bed are fastened with screws - at the bottom with the supporting structure. Self-tapping screws from the edge should be filed.

The second tier is also assembled in a similar way, and the fence with a ladder is also attached. As for the fence, if there is a desire and time, it can also be made on the side of the wall. Treat the finished bed with stain and varnish, let it dry - and mattresses can be laid.

It is sometimes believed that using ordinary nails in the manufacture of furniture is already outdated and impractical, but this is not so. Nails can not only become the cheapest piece of furniture, but also facilitate the work of the carpenter, without requiring any preparatory actions in the form of drilling with a drill.

Probably, few people realize that ordinary pallets can be used as the basis for a solid wooden bed. building materials.

They benefit not only by their cheap price, but also good quality, because bad wood is unlikely to be used to transport and store heavy bricks.

In addition, over time, the use of such pallets for their intended purpose, the tree can sit down and dry perfectly, which is its undeniable advantage.

Pallets can be brought to a more decent appearance by sanding and connected to each other with long self-tapping dowels. To give them a minimal aesthetic appearance, they can also be painted and varnished. In order to make a full-fledged double bed, you will need only four of these construction pallets, and from eight pallets or more you can build any kind of podium.

For the manufacture of bed legs, do not use chipboard: as already mentioned, this material, despite its widespread use, is not suitable for the manufacture of parts that can withstand a serious load. If you take this lightly and make the legs of the bed from wood chip material, at best they will delaminate, and the bed will constantly creak, and at worst they may simply not withstand the weight.

The bed itself is designed not only to support the mattress, but must also have properties that would allow the load to be evenly distributed between it and the bed frame. The boards on the bed should be laid freely according to the principle of lamellas, and the plywood shield for the mattress itself is already placed on top.

Lamellar boards are best laid transversely rather than longitudinally, because this is how they bend down slightly in accordance with the movements of the body.

A broken bed is not yet a reason to run to the store, especially if there are bars and self-tapping screws at home. With the help of simple materials, everyone can make a double bed with their own hands, and personal preferences and wishes will serve as a guide.

The original bed will fit exactly required dimensions, height and weight of the owner, and also fits perfectly into the overall interior design.

Wood based

The bed frame can be made of iron or wood. And if the first option requires special skills in working with iron and hard-to-reach materials in the form profile pipes, then every economic person will have bars along with the ability to handle a screwdriver and tighten self-tapping screws.

It will take no more than 10 days to assemble such furniture, and only safe and high-quality materials are used: self-tapping screws, plywood, MDF panel, metal corners, PVA glue, beams and dowels.

Competently and quickly assemble a strong and stable bed will help some recommendations:

  • It is better to give preference to an even beam on glued pine with a length of about 200 cm;
  • The dimensions of the future frame are recommended to be correlated with a pre-purchased mattress;
  • For boxes complementing the design, chipboard sheets should be purchased;
  • Self-tapping screws and other fasteners are bought with a margin;
  • At the base of the folds metal corners there should be no roughness, indicating poor quality.

Let's start assembling

Once everything you need is ready, you can start assembling the bed. The algorithm below will serve as a diagram for the manufacture of the constituent elements of the bed with your own hands.

Frame and stiffeners

First of all, a rectangular frame is made, each side of which consists of three bars fastened in height. Further, the following manipulations are necessary:

  • A beam measuring 4x5 cm is sawn into 4 parts: two 16 cm each and two 21 cm each, which are laid out on the floor along with the frame and fixed with PVA furniture glue.
  • The second layer is laid parallel to the bars, firmly fixed with self-tapping screws on both sides. Periodically, it is necessary to check the evenness of the structure with a tape measure or rope. Protruding excess glue must be immediately wiped with a cloth, preventing it from drying out.
  • For the base of the bed, slats with a thickness of at least 3 cm are taken. To increase the load capacity, a “stiffening rib” is made in the center, passing along the bed and having two supports.

Legs and supports

Four supports are needed and in each corner. Each leg is made from two pieces of timber 4x5 cm, while gluing their PVA seams, connecting them together with self-tapping screws and attaching them to the main frame. After that, the product is turned over and installed on the legs.

Mattress base

The bars for the support are provided by the drawing of the bed and, depending on suitable option come in a variety of thicknesses, heights and locations. Most often they are equal to the internal length of the frame and are attached at the level of the second row.

To create an optimal orthopedic base, the rails are fixed at a distance of about 20 mm, fixing them at the edges and in the center with two self-tapping screws in each place. After the future bed is left to allow the glue to dry.

Sanding and painting

The final processing consists in grinding the entire surface, thoroughly washing the product. Before painting, a protective wood primer is applied to the perimeter of the structure, and the bed is painted with high-quality wear-resistant varnish in 3-4 layers.

Modernizing standards

One bed is good, but a children's and bunk bed is even better, especially since making it with your own hands is as easy as making a standard model.

Choosing a suitable scheme, you can experiment with the dimensions and design: make two beds, place on the ground floor desk, sofa or lockers.

Experienced and purposeful craftsmen will also be interested in another modern and functional model - a podium bed. In this case, you will have to accurately measure all the dimensions of the room and prepare the lumber in strict accordance with the required area.

Required drawers at the bottom of the bed and sidewalls hidden by panels.

If your soul and body require a new bed, then do not rush to run to the store. Making this piece of furniture with your own hands is simple and quick, and the end result will directly depend on individual wishes, taste and area.
