Do-it-yourself arched interior doors. How to make an interior arch - design, drawings and assembly order. How to install a folding structure

Arched doors are gaining more and more popularity in the construction segment. On the one hand, this is an affordable opportunity to change traditional solutions, on the other hand, it is a correction of the standard sizes of entrance and interior doors. The theme of the "arch" originated from the appearance of arched corridors, after which it gradually switched to door structures.

The main classification of arched doors is carried out according to the following criteria:

  • design features - entrance and interior doors, prefabricated and non-separable;
  • arch shape - round, oval and rounded;
  • production material - wood, plastic, metal, glass, veneer, mirror, combined products;
  • arc shape - rounded or gothic.

In addition to the fact that actually arched doors are becoming more and more in demand, it is worth noting the popularity of arched openings both under the door and as an independent structural element.

Types of arched openings

The arch is a relatively simple design solution that allows you to divide the room into zones without the use of doors and partitions. The most popular place to install an arch is, of course, the entrance hall, but arched openings at the entrance to the kitchen, balcony / loggia, rest room, etc. are becoming more and more popular. This is an opportunity to change the traditional solutions of space organization.

Varieties of forms and materials of manufacture

According to the shape of the outline of the arch are divided into:

  • lancet;
  • round.

In turn, the round outline is divided into the following main types:

  • classic - even radius;
  • modernist - an arc (oval) with a rise;
  • romantic - with a central straight part and with rounding at the corners of the desired radius;
  • ellipse - a regular or irregular oval is taken as the basis of the shape.
  • horseshoe-shaped - part of the national interior in the form of a smooth or pointed semicircle;
  • Gothic - with an elongated pointed shape without smooth elements.

Types, material of manufacture, design

The main difference and aesthetics of arched doors is the presence of a rounded top, repeating the smooth line of the doorway. Until recently, such a model of doors belonged to the eastern form of space organization and was little used in European culture. After a while, the non-standard shape of the door has won its niche, and today few houses can do without arched openings and doors. The main secret of popularity lies in the association. What is an arched door in the understanding of each of us? This is the entrance to the palace, to a beautiful tower. This is a trend of the past, when kings ruled the world. It is this feeling of a fairy tale that attracts with its special design.

Arched doors can be classified according to a variety of criteria, of which the main ones are:

  • place,
  • material,
  • structural characteristics.

Place of installation and material of manufacture

In this category, there are 2 main types - interior and entrance. The first option is doors installed inside any room. The main material is plastic, wood, combined with glazing.

Entrance doors are the main element of the entrance group of various premises. For their manufacture are used different kinds metal, veneer, wood, plastic, rarely tempered glass

Due to the design features and the complexity of manufacturing canvases, plastic and wood are most often used, for interior doors - a combination with a glass sheet is the most successful. The tree used for the production of the entrance group must undergo a complex treatment against the development of fungi and mold.

Structural characteristics

The first and main feature of arched doors is the structure door structure, which is traditionally subdivided into:

  • a single complex of leaf and opening, characterized by a perfect match of the two elements due to point cutting and individual assembly. The most expensive type of doors;
  • standard door complete with arched part. In this case, the manufacture and installation of both parts is carried out separately. Recommended for installation when choosing swing and sliding models.
  • single-leaf doors - the most popular type of doors, not only arched, but also standard in shape. It can be installed both in the entrance group and in the house.
  • double-leaf - perfect solution wide doorways opening. It is recommended for installation even in small rooms, where, due to the wide area, the “working” part will seem to be 2 more focused.

Rounding corners significantly reduces the height of the opening. Calculate it using the formula: 2.10m + ½ of the opening width. This figure may be higher, but it should not be reduced.

Do it yourself

A variety of standard doors allows you to choose the right product for any size. Arched doors are not yet so popular with manufacturers and therefore you can either not choose any model at all, or not find the right size. Therefore, we suggest that you make the entrance wooden arched doors yourself.

You can really make the canvas yourself, but the boxed part will have to be purchased either in a specialized store or go to the forest.

Tools:

  • jigsaw;
  • electric milling cutter;
  • belt grinder with a set of skins of several degrees of graininess;
  • board 5.0 cm;
  • small wedges;
  • bars and self-tapping screws for wood, while the height of the self-tapping screw is at least 3 cm greater than the width of the bar;
  • carpentry or PVA glue.

Procedure

  1. First, determine the net width of the opening, for which you subtract the thickness of the boxed part from the total width of the opening and plus another 2-3 mm margin.
  2. The arch will be smooth and beautiful if its radius coincides with the radius of the doorway. To do this, select the boards, and already determine by the width how much is needed, based on the fact that the boards are laid horizontally.

For the manufacture of arched doors, always use only the wood that has passed the stage of forced drying in industrial conditions (chamber, heat, air extraction, etc.). A wet or insufficiently dried canvas will eventually begin to go to the side, sag or warp in a different way.

  1. Using an electric milling cutter, cut grooves on the boards that will allow you to connect the parts together as tightly as possible. On reverse side also make small shallow grooves for forced ventilation. The grooves are cut at the rate of 3.0 mm wider than the thickness of the board.
  2. Clean the boards with a soft brush, and apply a middle layer of PVA glue or other carpentry analogue. Allow time to dry.
  3. Cut out a circle from the workpiece and check the level of the plane.

The outline of the form depends on what the arch will be in the future. So, if you plan an arch in the shape of a semicircle, mark a point at the very bottom. Take a marker or pencil, attach a dense, non-stretching thread to it. Fix its end on a point, and draw a semicircle with a marker.

In the case when the shape of the arch is pointed or elongated, you will need a metal ruler. Put a point at the bottom of the workpiece, from which you draw a line straight up at an angle of 900. Next, put the ruler with an edge and adjust it carefully to the radius mark and along the edge of the workpiece. Draw a line with a marker. You do the same with the other side, observing the complete symmetry of the lines.

  1. Using a jigsaw, cut the workpiece along the drawn lines and grind it. First with a larger abrasive, then with a fine one. This completes the arch.
  2. The bottom of the door is prepared in the same way, except that the plank is now laid vertically.

Be sure to add a horizontal piece to the door that will maximize the life of the door.

The finished canvas consists of three elements:

  • lower;
  • a shield made of vertical slats;
  • arched part.

You connect, as already mentioned, according to the tenon-groove principle, for which you cut the spikes with a milling cutter, which should protrude by 2-2.5 mm. Remove the dust, spread with carpentry glue and put the parts on top of each other in order. Be sure to support the already assembled canvas with wedges.

After 2-3 hours, after the glue is completely dry, finish the almost finished door with any protective agent. It can be "Pinotex" (universal impregnation) or any other. by the most best solution will use colorless varnish. On the sunny side, laminating coatings quickly lose their effect, and on the shaded side, it is simply imperceptible.

In an effort to move away from generally accepted standards and give elegance to the interior, the owners of apartments and country houses change the usual doors to arches. This is no longer a new, but to this day a popular design highlight. The arch in the doorway is bought ready-made or made by hand. It comes in a variety of configurations, so it allows you to realize any idea.

Forms of arched openings

Interior door arches are selected not only based on taste preferences, but also depending on certain parameters: ceiling height and. The structures are made of drywall, wood, MDF, PVC. Drywall is the easiest to work with as it is the most flexible material.

At present, there are a large number different types arches that vary in shape. The most common are:

Arched openings also have various designs and on the basis of this are divided into several varieties:

After looking closely at your interior and choosing the right arch model, you can begin the phased work.

Step-by-step instructions for self-production

In order not to spend extra money on finished products, you can do the decoration of the arched opening yourself. To do this, you need to follow a well-established scheme.

Making the necessary measurements

Any construction process requires accuracy, which is achieved by preliminary measurements. You need to start from the opening itself, so first measure its width and height. The size of the span between the walls of the opening is equal to the width of the arch. In order to make a semicircle as accurately as possible, this indicator must be divided by two.

Before making the arch, you need to decide on its future configuration. If you are going to do it in classical style, then pre-align the walls. Otherwise, the design will look ugly. Remove all defects from vertical surface can be putty or plaster using beacons.

Creating a Structural Frame

To make the installation of the frame, you must perform a series of sequential steps:

  1. A contour of a metal profile is screwed along the lines of the opening with dowels. Vertical guides are set indented from the surface of the interior wall. The size of the indent is equal to the thickness of the drywall sheet and the plaster layer (about 0.2 cm).
  2. We install two such profiles parallel to each other on each side.

    For the frame device, two profiles are installed in parallel

  3. Having finished working with the profiles, we take up the installation of the first sheet of drywall. If its thickness is 1.25 cm, then it is recommended to fasten it with 3.5x35 self-tapping screws. If the GKL thickness is not more than 0.95 cm, use smaller screws.

    Drywall fixed with self-tapping screws

  4. Sheathe the second side of the frame with drywall.

  5. Make a metal profile in the shape of an arc. To do this, cut the side walls of the profile with special scissors every 7 centimeters. As a result of these actions, it is easier for him to give the required shape. For an arched structure, two such blanks are required.

    An arched arc is made from the profile

  6. Install and fasten the arcuate profiles to the main part of the frame.

    The arcuate profile is attached to the main part of the frame

  7. In order for the arcs to be securely fixed, they are attached with suspensions to a straight guide located on top. The number of hangers depends on the width of the opening. Usually three pairs are enough.

  8. In increments of 0.4-0.6 m, attach reinforcing crossbars along the perimeter of the frame, fixing them on the guides of the two contours.
  9. As a result of the above actions, a reliable metal structure in the form of an arch from the profile. In the future, it will be covered with plasterboard or plywood.

If it is assumed that the columns of the arches will not be too large in thickness, then it is permissible to change 2 arcs to wide profile. Cutting and bending is done in exactly the same way. Only in this case, the installation of crossbars is not required.

Sometimes wooden slats are used instead of a metal profile. The technology of mounting the frame does not change significantly.

Bending drywall sheet

After installing the frame, they are accepted for bending the GKL. Experts recommend using drywall, designed specifically for arched structures. It easily takes the desired shape if the material is washed in the longitudinal direction.

If you decide to use ordinary drywall, then you will have to tinker with it. Mounting element cut out right size in the form of a rectangle. Bend it in two ways: wet and dry.

Scheme for manufacturing a bend

The wet method takes a lot of time and is not rushed. So that the material does not crack when bent, it is moistened with water and punctures are made. In this form, the drywall sheet is left to lie for some time, and then it is bent on a template of the desired configuration.

The dry method refers to the application of cuts parallel to each other on the wrong side of the GKL. The cut goes deep into the sheet, affecting the outer cardboard layer and gypsum. The cardboard layer on the front side remains intact.

With the dry method, the bend of the installation element takes the correct shape. At the same time, it is important to know that sawing GKL is best done with a jigsaw, and not with a hacksaw. Then the edges will not be torn.

Rough frame trim

If the bend was carried out by the wet method, then first of all it is necessary to wait until the drywall sheet is completely dry. The material is fixed first with adhesive tape, and then with self-tapping screws. The minimum step between them should be from 5 to 6 centimeters.

Perforated corner prevents edge chipping

After fixing the sheathing, the edges of the drywall sheet are cleaned. And in order to prevent chipping of the curved edge, a perforated plastic corner is installed on it.

Leveling with putty

To make the surface even, you need to finish the arched structure. To begin with, a primer is applied, and after it dries, putty. Fiberglass mesh is used to reinforce the second layer and strengthen the corners..

Fiberglass mesh reinforces the corners of the arch

The last third layer of putty is applied to the grid. After about 10 hours, it dries up, after which you can start cleaning up the bumps with sandpaper. With a quality work done, the surface will be without roughness, irregularities, and the caps of the self-tapping screws will not be visible in it.

Ways to finish arches

Those who wish to finish the arches on their own will have to work hard, cutting out each detail separately. However, many do not look for difficulties and choose a simple path - they acquire factory structures from prefabricated elements.

Ready-made and prefabricated linings

There are two types of factory-made overlay: wooden and foam.

Styrofoam elements

Foam arches are often preferred as an alternative to plaster products. The advantages of such structures are as follows:

  1. Fast installation. The installation speed is much higher than arched structures made of plywood or plasterboard.
  2. Low price.
  3. Easy transportation. Styrofoam is a fairly light material, so you do not need to hire movers to deliver the product to your home.
  4. Light weight. Arches of this type can be installed even on very weak structures.
  5. Various forms.

Foam arches are assembled from prefabricated elements and cut in place to fit the size of the opening

Negative sides arched foam structures are: brittleness, toxicity, rapid flammability.

Wood elements

Wooden arched structures do not require advertising. They look rich and rarely do not fit any interior style. However, it should be understood that the word "wooden" does not mean that all components are made of pine, oak or other wood.

The arch can be made from natural wood, MDF, chipboard or plywood

Arched elements are also made from inexpensive MDF, laminated chipboard, plywood, veneered. The desired option is selected in individually based on the taste and thickness of the wallet.

Wooden elements are ordered from a catalog and then cut to length before installation.

Installation wooden structures simple to do. In hardware stores, arches are sold both assembled and disassembled. The first option is considered more reliable, since the work was performed by a specialist.

Decorating with finishing materials

Currently, there are many ways to beautifully and neatly. The decor is selected so that it is in harmony in color, texture, material with the home environment. The most popular options are:

  1. Simple staining. The arch will look elegant and complete if it is simply painted white, Brown color or to match the walls. This finish is often complemented decorative elements, backlit.

    Monochrome painting looks advantageous in combination with backlighting

  2. Wallpapering. This is the fastest, most affordable and easy process. For these purposes, vinyl or non-woven options are best suited.

    Slopes highlighted with wallpaper - a very stylish design move

  3. Finishing with wooden, plastic clapboard. The method guarantees not only a beautiful aesthetic appearance, but also ensures the durability of the structure, its protection from moisture and mechanical damage.

    The clapboard option is great for interiors with wall decoration from the same material.

  4. Decorative plaster. The surface of the arch is beautiful, embossed and durable. True, such a finish needs to be restored sometimes, and it requires some care.

    This method looks especially advantageous in deep arches.

  5. Stone. Arch in a house made of natural or artificial stone installed only with the help of a professional. Finishing fascinates the eye, makes the interior unusual.

    The ragged edges of the arch can be the highlight of any interior.

  6. Cork- it is quite expensive, but environmentally friendly material. It is easily susceptible to mechanical damage, therefore, to extend its service life, it is recommended to cover the cork with wax.

    Cork finish brings a sense of environmental friendliness and comfort to the interior

  7. Clinker tiles. This finish will last for years. It does not attract dirt and does not require special care.

    Finishing with clinker tiles - unlimited space for interesting solutions

The topic of this article is the manufacture of arched doors, their installation and the subtleties of these processes. We will talk about the types of doors with arches, note their varieties and features of each type. We will also provide advice on self-manufacturing entrance door in the form of an arch made of solid wood.

To date, arched openings of various shapes and styles are used in the construction and decoration of most premises. They are used as entrance and interior doors.

From the whole variety of doorways in the form of arches (see), the following classification can be made:

  • semicircular arches. They are the most common and are also divided into subspecies:
    1. Classic (semicircular) - they have an even radial shape.
    2. Ellipsoidal - performed in the form of an elongated oval.
    3. Modern - have intricate shapes with various protrusions.
    4. Romantic - in shape they are more like a rectangle, in which the upper edges are slightly rounded.
  • horseshoe arches. They are horseshoe shaped. They can have not only a smooth semicircle, but also an elongated pointed top. Most often, openings of this type are used to decorate rooms in national styles.
  • Gothic (lancet) arches. These structures have an elongated pointed shape, without smooth transitions.

What are arched doors

Arched doors have many varieties and are classified according to various factors: installation site, material of manufacture, design features

Types of arched doors at the installation site

There are two main categories here:

  1. Interior doors arched- located inside residential and other types of premises. Most often they are made of wood and have glazing. For glazing such structures, stained glass compositions are often used (see).
  2. Arched entry doors- are used mainly in the entrance groups of institutions: shops, organizations, shopping and entertainment centers. Made from plastic profile.

What are arched doors made of?

In view of the complexity of manufacturing this type of door leaf, the variety of material for their production is not very plentiful:

  1. Plastic. This material is used for the production of a profile from which not only entrance doors but also windows.
  2. An array of wood. Wooden door leafs in the form of arches are used for entrance groups in the private sector, as well as inside any type of premises.

Structural features of arched doors

Based on the characteristics of operation, the complexity of installation and the cost of the finished product, the following arched door structures can be distinguished:

  • Cloths that repeat one to one the contours of the opening. A feature of such doors is that their production takes a lot of time. They stand high enough. Such models are made of wood (see), since arched plastic doors made with a different technology.
  • Standard canvases with an arched part fixed above them. Such doors are somewhat cheaper, since the arcuate part of them is mounted separately and does not open together with the leaf. It also becomes possible to use not only hinged, but also sliding options for canvases.

Important! The height of the opening for such doors should be large enough. It is calculated by the formula: Vpr \u003d 210 cm + half the width of the opening.

  • Single leaf doors. They are usually used as interior, as well as input options for private houses and public places.
  • Double doors. For wide openings, it is advisable to use two doors. One of them can be fixed in the opening with a latch. Actual for entrance groups. In this case, more often the “working” part of the door is 2 times wider than the fixed one.

We make an arched door ourselves

Despite the complexity of manufacturing such canvases, it is possible to do this. Now you will see for yourself. We will learn how to make wooden arched entrance doors.

It is better to order the box part according to your size, and we will make the canvas with our own hands (see).

We prepare everything you need

First you need to prepare a tool, boards and improvised materials.

We will need:

  • Electric jigsaw with wood saws.
  • Electric milling cutter with two types of cutters: disk (for grooves) and cylindrical.
  • Sander with sandpaper of different grain sizes. Best of all - tape.
  • Boards, 5 centimeters thick.
  • Wedges made of wood.
  • Two small bars and 4 wood screws. The length of the screws should be 30mm more than the thickness of the bars.
  • Joiner's waterproof glue. Possibly PVA.

We make a blank for the arched part of the canvas

To make the arched part of the door leaf, we first need to measure the final width of the opening. That is, from the total width we subtract the thickness of the “box” part and the gap of 2 mm between the door and the opening (box).

After that, we perform the following work:

  • In order for the arch to turn out beautiful, its radius must be made equal to half the width of the doorway. Based on the width of the prepared boards, we calculate how many pieces they will need. Boards will be placed horizontally.

Important! Before you make an arched door, you need to choose well-dried boards. Since if they are raw, then the canvas will warp over time.

  • Now, using an electric mill, we make grooves for a tighter connection. To do this, we take a disk-groove cutter. We make grooves in such a way that the protruding part is about half the thickness of the board. That is - 2.5 millimeters. Likewise with the internal groove.
  • Next, we clean the entire surface of the grooves from dust and apply carpentry glue to them. After that, we connect all the boards and leave them to dry.

Important! In order for gluing to happen better, you need to take a board and attach pre-prepared bars to it with screws. The distance between the bars should be 10–20 mm greater than the width of the glued workpiece. Place the workpiece between the bars and open it with wedges.

Cut out a semicircle

For this operation, we recall the experience of installing plasterboard arches.

We use one of two options to outline the arched shape:

  1. If the arch has an even semicircle. We mark the middle of the blank at the bottom. Then we take a pencil and tie a non-sticky thread to it. Cut the thread exactly to the length of the radius of the arch. We attach one end of the thread to the mark and draw a semicircle with a pencil.
  2. If the shape of the arch (as in the photo) has an elongated semicircular or pointed shape, then we use a different method. It is very convenient to use a long metal ruler to delineate the boundaries of the bend contour. We also mark the middle and draw a line from it strictly vertically to the length of the radius of the arch. Next, put the ruler on the edge and bend it so that with one edge it touches the radius mark, and the other coincides with the edge of the workpiece. After that, draw a line with a pencil. On the other side, we do the same steps.

Important! Make sure that you get a symmetrical shape of the arched cutout.

Next, take a jigsaw and carefully cut the workpiece according to the markup. After that, we take a grinder with the largest sandpaper and process the surface of our arched part of the door on both sides. After that, we repeat the grinding with a finer abrasive.

Now the most beautiful part of our door is ready. Arched-type interior doors can be decorated with the same elements. However, it is worth considering that glazed arches will be more elegant for interior spaces. And their manufacture requires carpentry skills.

Finishing the door panel

Now we have to make the rest of the door. It will be assembled according to the same principle as the previous part. The only difference will be that the boards will not be located horizontally, but vertically.

You should also provide a horizontal part at the very bottom of the canvas. This will help extend the life of the door.

As a result, our door leaf will consist of 3 parts:

  1. Horizontal bottom bar.
  2. Shield from vertical boards.
  3. Upper crossbar. She is the arched part.

After all 3 parts of the door are ready, we connect them using the spike method. To do this, we perform the appropriate operations with a milling cutter and put all 3 parts on glue. Do not forget to support the canvas with wedges.

The final stage is the treatment of the entire surface of the door with a protective agent and a finishing coating. For this, "Pinotex" or any other protection for the tree is suitable.

If the door is constantly on the sunny side, then it is not recommended to cover it with laminating coatings. In this case, it is better to use an ordinary colorless varnish for outdoor use.

Arched structures in construction have been known for a long time. But earlier it was the privilege of the nobility to use arches in the design of dwellings or other buildings. Luxurious palaces, churches and so on - that was the main direction in the use of arched structures. At that time, it was quite difficult to build such buildings in many respects. That is why their distribution everywhere began only in the 20th century. Progress does not stand still and with the development of technology, installation work for the arrangement of arches became available to the general population, as well as use in various areas of construction.

The entrance arched door is more durable than the usual one, since solid wood is used for its production, sheathed with metal if desired.

Today, it is no longer a luxury, but rather one of the popular options for interior decoration indoors or building design. DIY arched door can easily decorate any room and make its design more original.

Carrying out individual construction, in the interior you can use arches in window and door openings, when decorating the ceiling, and so on. Of course, I would like to separately note the design of the arched door. After all, it is distinguished by its special sophistication and attractiveness. This is what will be discussed next.

Varieties of arched openings

Types of arched doors.

Today, very often in the design of both residential and other premises, you can find a variety of arches. It can be both entrance openings and interior doors. There are quite a few of them. But if you think about the classification, you can divide them into the following types:

  1. Semicircular view. The most common today.
  2. Gothic (lancet) arches. They are distinguished by the presence of an elongated shape that does not have smooth lines with a pointed upper part.

But that's not all, the first option is divided into several subspecies. This:

  1. Classic variant. It implies the presence of the usual semicircular shape.
  2. Ellipsoid. The name speaks for itself, their shape resembles a slightly elongated oval.
  3. Modern style. Its use gives the arches a variety of original forms, having various protrusions and transitions.
  4. Romantic arches. Very simple, as it has the shape of a rectangle with a rounded top.
  5. Arches in the form of horseshoes (horseshoe-shaped). Their design implies the presence of both semicircular shapes and shapes with a pointed top. This option can most often be found in the interiors of different national cultures.

Now a few words about arched doors.

Arched doors: design options

Interior arched door will help to visually expand small space corridor.

Classification of arched doors can be carried out according to various criteria. For example, according to the material used for manufacturing or the features of their design. And another of the classifying features is the place of their installation. So, taking the last of the signs as a basis, arched doors can be classified into:

  1. Interior doors. As already clear, they are located indoors. Their construction is made of wood and very often features elements such as mosaics and glass.
  2. Entrance arched doors. This option finds its application in various public buildings, such as shops. In addition, in their interior they are used by various government agencies and shopping or entertainment centers. Their manufacture involves the use of a plastic profile.

The next classifying feature is the material from which arched doors are made. There is not much choice here. It is due to the complexity and existing difficulties in the manufacture of doors in the form of an arch. There are only 2 categories. This:

  1. Plastic. Profile structures are produced from it, which are subsequently used for the manufacture of doors, as well as windows.
  2. Tree. This material is recommended to be used for internal use, but in private construction, entrance doors can also be made from it.

Scheme of the device of the arched opening.

And finally, the nuances of the design are also a classifying feature. Focusing on it, we can distinguish the following types:

  1. Doors shaped to match the opening. It takes quite a lot of time to produce a design of this kind. Yes, and not everyone can afford them. The material for the manufacture is usually wood.
  2. Door leaf with a standard solution with an arch above it. This version of the door already has a lower price, since the part in the form of a semicircle is installed separately from the leaf and remains motionless. In this case, you can use several options for doors, for example, hinged or sliding.
  3. Doors with only 1 leaf. Used to decorate the interior space. Use as input is also allowed.
  4. If the opening is large in width, then it would be advisable to use double doors. Fix 1 of the pieces in doorway you can use a device such as a latch.

Making an arched door with your own hands: is it possible?

This work is not easy, but it is still possible to do it on your own. Below is the order of operations and helpful tips for the manufacture of arched doors. I would like to note that it would be better to make a box for such a door to order. To do this, you need to determine the size and seek help from specialists. But the manufacture of the door leaf provides for a simpler technology.

Required accessories

First of all, you need to make sure that you have everything you need for work. It concerns various tools and materials. Here is a short list:

  • electric jigsaw equipped with wood saws;
  • electric milling cutter (milling cutters must be of 2 types: disk for making grooves and cylindrical);
  • tape Grinder(it’s good if it is equipped with a skin in different size options);
  • boards 5 cm thick;
  • wooden wedges;
  • medium-sized bars and self-tapping screws (4 pieces are enough), the length of which is 30 mm more than the thickness of the bars used;
  • adhesive composition with waterproof qualities (for example, PVA).

Door leaf arch: how to do it?

To make it, we need the width of the opening in pure form. It can be calculated in a simple way: from general meaning width subtract the thickness of the box and the estimated gap (usually 2 mm).

The next step is to determine the size of the arch. For a harmonious look, it should be equal to half the width of the doorway. Having found out this, you can begin to calculate the required number of boards. The location of the material (boards) will be horizontal.

When installing a fixed arch in the resulting cavity, you can "hide" all the wires and cables.

For work, use only well-dried material. Using an electric mill, it is necessary to make grooves. The protruding part of the groove must correspond to 2.5 mm. All grooves are made by analogy with the first.

The inner surface of the grooves made must be freed from dust accumulated in them, after which they can be processed using adhesive composition. Then you connect all the parts and leave them without movement for high-quality drying.

The following steps involve making a semicircle. This technology is similar to working with drywall. Having marked the semicircular workpiece with electric jigsaw, you need to cut it. Next, a grinder with the largest grain is used, then with a fine one.

The rest of the door is made according to the principle described above. Only the position of the boards will differ, it will be vertical.

Please note that the finished door leaf includes 3 parts: the lower horizontal part, a shield of boards arranged vertically, and the upper part in the form of an arch.

For connection, the spike method is used.

For high-quality fixation, use glue and wedges for support. It remains only to finish the finished door leaf. What it will be, your imagination will tell you.

How to make your own

The manufacturing rules are not much different from a similar procedure with traditional door leafs, but there are features.

  1. First of all, an arch template is cut out, usually from fiberboard.
  2. The canvas is going rectangular shape taking into account the fact that the upper cut will not carry a power load.
  3. The upper part is cut according to the template with a tolerance for further processing.
  4. The outer side of the rounding is carefully adjusted to the shape of the template, while maintaining the perpendicularity of the end part. It is more convenient to edit the outer edge with a cutter. If there is no access to the machine, this can be done using a belt grinder.
  5. The arched top of the box is made along the contour of the canvas. The arc can be bent according to a pattern or a set of several bars connected with spikes can be made. The narthex is selected by a cutter.
  6. The upper loop is installed as close as possible to the beginning of the rounding.
  7. Fittings are attached in the same way as on a rectangular door.

Double-leaf swing doors are made according to the same principle. First, rectangular canvases, then the general marking of the arched rounding according to the template, and after that - the door frame.

More complex designs

Arches cannot be made according to the traditional design, since they do not have an upper side to accommodate the sliding mechanism. Manufacturers went to some tricks in the design.

  1. Single leaf. The arched shape is preserved only from the side door handle. The opposite part of the door is rectangular with a mechanism installed on it. When the door is completely closed, it is not visible what kind of bend it has, since it is hidden by an opening. When opening, only the part on which the handle and lock are installed is visible.
  2. . Both halves are made in a rectangular shape. The drawing or windows on the canvases repeat the bend of the arch, and closed doors look like a repetition of an arched opening.

This option is suitable if the sliding sash suspension mechanism is hidden in the wall. If the canvases are hinged on one side of the wall - both halves sliding doors rectangular. The design is carried out in such a way that on one side the doors look like arched ones, repeating the curve of the opening. On the opposite side, these are ordinary rectangular sliding canvases.
