If you prefer practical options benches, you should pay attention to products made of stone. This type of material is characterized by low cost and long service life, and the structures are durable, reliable and aesthetically attractive.

The stone belongs to the category of materials of natural origin. Despite this, the designs of such shops will not always be able to support any. Stone elements must be present on the site as an addition. The shops look especially advantageous against the backdrop of a residential building, partially made of stone.

A good ensemble will be made of stone:

  • steps;
  • tracks;
  • reservoirs;
  • gabions;
  • flower beds.

Supports, arbors and awnings can be made of stone partially or completely. If at least one of these elements is present on the site, stone shops will always fit in. However, it should be remembered that such products do not have a back.

Even the simplest stone bench looks elegant, noble and solid.

Photos of garden benches made of plastic and other materials

Plastic products have a number of advantages, which include:

  • simplicity and low weight of the structure, due to which the transportation of the material does not cause difficulties, and the bench itself can be moved from one place to another;
  • profitability;
  • wide choice color solutions, which allows you to make a product that will subsequently fit well into the design of the garden;
  • practicality (folding-type structures are easily disassembled and stacked in the trunk and also easily assembled on site).

Plastic benches are light in weight, making them extremely mobile and easy to transport

Helpful advice! Use your own hands to create designs from combined materials. You will be able to endow your product with positive performance characteristics that are inherent in each type of raw material used.

Combined combinations of materials of different texture, texture, color and origin are used not only for decorative purposes. The most common option is a combination of stone and wood.

Designs made of wood and complemented by stone or metal elements look original. In such projects, wood creates a soft and beautiful texture, while stone and metal are responsible for strength.

Making garden benches with your own hands

bench designs have some distinctive features. Building a garden benchsimplest way organize a seating area in the garden. The product does not have a back and, unlike benches, has a simple external design.

Creating a bench- fast and easy way garden seating arrangements

Created with a back can have a more complex decorative design:

  • non-standard form;
  • armrests;
  • design, decorated with carved and forged elements.

Photos, ideas for making garden benches

To revive the design of a simple bench, it is not necessary to invent complex drawing and puzzle over the creation of additional accessories for the garden. It is enough to use two wooden boxes and several boards.

original wooden bench with table designed to seat two people

The boxes in this case will serve as supports. After making the bench, they can be filled with earth and organize a small flower bed. A seat is made from the boards, which is installed between the boxes. The material must be sanded well with sandpaper, remove all irregularities and burrs.

Helpful advice! From benches based on boxes, you can make a garden bench with a backrest with your own hands. It is enough to install the structure against the wall and nail several boards on its plane in the required place as a back.

Bench drawing with wooden boxes for flowers: 1 - bench arrangement and calculation of materials: A - logs (2x4 boards 17 1/2" long - 6 pcs., 2x4 boards 20 1/2" long - 4 pcs.); B - drawer bottom (3/4 plywood 20 1/2” x 20 1/2” - 2 pcs.); C - trims (1x4 boards 23 1/2” long - 16 pieces); D - side lamellas (boards 1x6 25” long - 32 pieces); E - trims for facing the top (2x4 boards 45" long - 8 pieces); F - seat frame (2x4 boards 63" long - 2 pcs., 2x4 boards 17 1/2" long - 2 pcs.); G - cross bars (1x2 boards 17 1/2” long - 5 pieces); H - seat (boards 1x4 60" long - 5 pcs.); 2 - side facing; 3 - installation of the walls of the flower box; 4 - mounting dimensions of the walls of the box; 5 - diagram of the device for the bottom of the flower box

Wood structures have a certain disadvantage. The material itself requires constant care, and in this case the tree is also in contact with the soil, it is necessary to periodically water the plants. To make a bench more practical, wooden boxes can be replaced with concrete or stone pedestals. Concrete flower beds can be made independently or purchased at the store.

For the seat, you should use processed boards or half a log. The choice of raw materials depends on the style in which the design of the garden or patio is made. It is recommended to fix the seat metal corners, fixed to concrete using dowels, and to wood using through bolts or self-tapping screws.

Rice. 1-2. Bench drawing with wooden flower boxes: 6 - mounting dimensions of the seat frame; 7 - strengthening the design of the bench; 8 - installation of seat rails; 9, 10 - drawer installation

As supports, you can use flowerpots with dwarf trees or ornamental bushes. The only, but very important requirement is that the container must be very strong. A hole is cut into the seat in the shape of a flowerpot in the place where the legs of the benches are usually located. The size of the hole should be sufficient to allow the plant to grow and care for it, however, it should not exceed the size of the container. Essentially, a plank seat is placed on top of the flowerpots and fixed by gravity and the weight of those seated.

Garden bench in ethno style

Ethno and rustic design styles are often used in interior design. Vacation home, a cottage or a summer house is a great place to create an eco-friendly and natural corner suitable for a family vacation. This design can be continued in the garden. For this, it is enough make a bench with a back from logs (Fig. 1) and other natural materials.

Helpful advice! For the construction of the structure, logs with or without bark can be used. To process the material or leave it in its original form - depends on your wishes and the design of the site.

benches made of logs are distinguished by originality and environmental friendliness

The principles of making a garden bench from a log

To form a seat, it is enough to saw a tree trunk along. This can be done exactly in the middle (in the diameter zone) or by moving the saw closer to the edge (in the medium diameter zone). The back is made from a thinner tree trunk, or you can cut closer to the edge. As a result, this element must be thinner and lighter than the seat part.

Rice. 2. Log garden bench in the courtyard country house

Legs can be made from the remains of a log. They are connected to the seat part with metal pins. It is done like this:

  1. In the parts to be connected, holes are made for the pins in the appropriate places. The diameter of the holes should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the fastener.
  2. The pin is driven into one of the holes approximately in the middle of its length.
  3. On top of the free edge of the pin, the second part to be connected is placed and also hammered. In this case, the blows fall not on the pin, but on the wood.

Ethno and rustic styles are great for decorating a personal plot

Fasteners are hammered with a sledgehammer or hammer. Since wood is a fairly soft material by its structure, hammer blows can damage its surface. To avoid this, you need to put an unnecessary board under the instrument.

Pins provide a reliable connection of all parts. To strengthen the fixation, you can install 2-3 pins.

Ethno-style in garden benches building ideas

In the ethno style, you can create a design with a non-standard design. The highlight can be, for example, the manufacture of a bench using curved branches different diameter. Before assembling the product, these branches are processed and skinned. In other words, the bark is removed from them, and then the surface is polished with sandpaper. An unedged board must be used to assemble the seat. It is processed in a similar way.

Various options wooden benches created in ethno style

Note! All elements of this design have rounded shapes, and the seat boards face forward.

If your summer cottage has a wicker fence, you can use the same design option with some changes. Short seat boards can be replaced with long ones by placing them along. The back is formed according to the principle of weaving from branches of medium thickness, which bend well.

Rustic bench will become a unique object in the garden

To make a wicker back, it is not necessary to have any special skills. You may not get a very neat result, but this is not necessary. The back should be simple and unobtrusive, coarse weaving will only increase its decorative properties. Branches can be placed tightly or, conversely, leave gaps between them so that your bench “breathes”.

Bench - an alternative to a garden bench

Despite the absence of a back, this scheme (Fig. 3-1) for making a bench looks quite attractive due to the characteristics of the material from which it will be made. The design itself has a very simple structure, so everyone can handle the technology of its creation.

For the legs you will need a rounded beam. If you have logs with a small diameter, you can save on the purchase of material and trim them yourself. The original appearance of the bench is obtained due to the fact that the bars are stacked one on top of the other and fixed. The result is a beautiful support for the product.

Rice. 3-1. The procedure for manufacturing a simple wooden bench: 1 - drawing up a design drawing

Calculation of parameters and required materials

The height of the bench can be adjusted according to your needs. This indicator also depends on the diameter of the timber that will be used in the work. To calculate the amount of material, you need to determine how many bars will be stacked one on top of the other to form the required height of one of the legs.

Size chart:

In our case, 5 bars are required, the length of which is 0.45 m. Calculation formula: 5x0.45 \u003d 2.25 m. Based on this, 4.5 m of timber (2.25x2) will be required to build two supports. The seat will consist of five boards 1.2 m long. For its manufacture, the following amount of material will be required: 5x1.2 \u003d 6 m.

Rice. 3-2. The procedure for manufacturing a simple wooden bench: 2 - cutting wood for the legs of the bench; 3 - drilling holes in the details of the legs; 4 - preparation of boards for the seat; 5 - processing the edges of the seat parts

Helpful advice! To round the edges of the timber, you can use a cutter or purchase ready-made profiled material. Its cost is higher, but profiled timber is much more convenient in work.

Initial stage: preparation of the material

To begin with, boards for the seat are being prepared. The material is cut into the required number of boards of the appropriate length and processed. Sharp corners should be rounded off. Use the possibilities of the router for this or grinder. If you do not have such a tool at hand, it will be enough to process the edges with sandpaper.

Rice. 3-3. The procedure for manufacturing a simple wooden bench: 6, 7 - marking the details of the legs; 8 - drilling holes at the intended points; 9 - applying a protective coating to the parts of the seat

Grinding with sandpaper is a long and laborious process. To simplify your work, you can order the grinding of the material at the sawmill. After the boards are prepared, they need to be opened with a varnish composition. It can be a completely transparent varnish or a tinted composition (the choice of topcoat is up to you).

The bars intended to form the legs of the bench are tightly stacked next to each other so that their edges form a straight line. Using a pencil and square, mark the areas where the fasteners will be installed. The lines should be distributed along the entire length in increments of 7-10 cm.

Rice. 3-4. The procedure for manufacturing a simple wooden bench: 10, 11 - fastening the legs to the seat; 12 - view of the finished product

Assembling a garden bench: mounting fasteners

Metal pins will be used as fasteners. An alternative replacement for them can be dowels made of wood. Holes are made for the installation of fasteners, the diameter of which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the pins, and the depth is half the length of the pin.

To fix the parts, the fasteners will be hammered into one of the bars, and the next element will be pushed through the hole on top of it.

Photo: a bench without a back can be used not only for sitting, but also as a table

Helpful advice! Assembling the structure with pins is a reliable method of fastening. To increase the strength of fixation, you can use the adhesive composition during installation, but this technique will make the structure non-separable.

The pin connection is also used in the process of creating according to the drawings do-it-yourself benches for summer cottages from a tree which design is completed with a back. A qualitative result can be achieved only if all the holes are located strictly one above the other. As a result, all parts during assembly should form an even edge line.

Wooden table and benches painted in White color, form a cozy dining area in the garden

After drawing the marking lines, you need to measure the distance from the edge, which should be the same. For these purposes, it is recommended to create a template. It is enough to take a piece of the bar, the width of which is 1.5 cm. It will serve as a kind of limiter. In other words, a distance equal to the width of this bar will separate the holes from the edge. Attach the template exactly along the edge line and mark the intersections with the already existing perpendicular markings.

The installation of the pins should be done in a checkerboard pattern, so you should place the holes not at each intersection of the lines, but through one. Holes are also made on the other side of the bar. They should be staggered in relation to the holes that were made earlier. As a result, when connecting the legs to the seat, each plank will have a pair of pins.

The final stage of building a bench made of wood with your own hands

From a technological point of view, the previously described type of connection can be considered correct. However, the scheme of its installation is quite complicated for a person who does not have the necessary skills.

There is an easier way to fasten the structure:

  1. The bars are stacked on top of each other.
  2. Folded parts are fixed with clamps.
  3. Performed through holes at three points (in the center and along the edges).
  4. Through the holes, the parts are fastened with a long stud (do not forget to put washers under the nut and cap).

Photo: original bench made from an old wooden bed

After that, the seat boards are nailed to these legs (on top) or you can make a pin connection in this place.

Helpful advice! To hide the placement of the nails, prepare a masking composition from a mixture of very fine sawdust and mastic intended for wood. Choose mastic to match the shop. Apply this mixture to all joints. After drying, the surface should be sanded.

The idea is simple board benches attached to a tree in the garden

When the assembly of the structure is completed, grind all the parts. Their surface should be as smooth as possible. After that, you can apply the finish coat. Use for this purpose a varnish composition or wood paint intended for outdoor use. It is better if the finish coat is translucent. In this way, you can leave the natural pattern of the wood visible.

Garden bench: drawings and photos, for making your own hands

Bench due to the presence of a backrest, it has a more convenient design than a bench. You can lean on it and relax your back. The capacity of such products may be different, but usually drawings garden benches wooden do it yourself are made up for 2-4 persons. This is done for the reason that the long structure needs to install an additional support. As a result, the process of creating a product becomes more complicated. In fact, there is enough space for 2-4 people, so you can limit yourself to making the simplest designs.

The bench, due to the presence of a backrest, has a more comfortable seating design compared to a bench

Garden bench with a back: drawing for manufacturing

To make a bench with a wooden back for this project (Fig. 4) with your own hands, you need to acquire the following tool:

  • drill;
  • a set of drills;
  • hacksaw;
  • planer.

Note! The design is intended for installation in the garden, on the balcony or terrace.

benches, built of wood, harmoniously fit into any landscape

It will take you no more than one day to complete all the work on creating a bench. A square bar made of pine will be used as the main material. The parameters of its section are 6x6 cm. You will also need "twenty" boards. Before cutting these boards, they should be planed until parts with dimensions of 5.8x5.8 cm are obtained.

Bench for giving: instructions for making

Bench assembly from pine bars is carried out in the following sequence:

  • with the help of dowels and adhesive composition, we assemble the legs for the sides of the P-ob different shapes. Then, using the same fastening method, we fix slats (5.8x2 cm) and prongs (3.5x3.5 cm) mounted on the sides on them;

Rice. 4. Drawing of a wooden bench with back for two persons

  • to mark the locations of the reciprocal holes for mounting dowels, use a marker;
  • connect the sidewall and the longitudinally located rail. In order to mark the position of the sidewall, a 2 cm thick spacer should be used;
  • fix all elements while drilling holes with clamps. This will allow you to achieve accurate mating between the connected parts of the structure;
  • before performing the final assembly, sand all the elements well.

The last stage of construction is the application of a protective agent and a top coat.

For a longer service life, wooden structures need to be treated with a protective agent and applied with a topcoat.

Garden benches made from pallets

From improvised materials such as pallets, you can create interesting design benches (Fig. 5). It can be installed not only in the garden, but also on the terrace and even inside country house. Three pallets are required for work.

Manufacturing steps:

  • one of the pallets is divided in half. These halves will subsequently be the back of the product. Cutting must be done so that after assembling the parts of the back and seat form a figure of a geometrically correct shape, and all edges coincide;

Rice. 5. Manufacturing procedure pallet benches in six photos

  • two other pallets are knocked together with nails. We fix the back halves to them;
  • a mattress of the appropriate size should be placed on top of the structure. You can use cushions from an old sofa, reupholstering them first, or sew new ones. You can also put a few small pillows on the back.

Using wooden pallets is a fun way to create original garden furniture.

Helpful advice! You can leave the mattress lying still or fix it with straps. For greater functionality, wheels can be added to the design.

Drawing garden bench "Transformer"

For the manufacture of the structure, you will need to purchase pine lumber.

Materials for work:

Features of the manufacture of a transformer bench

Following step by step instructions, you can create an interesting bench, the design of which can be transformed into a table with two benches (Fig. 6).

Main stages making benches:

  • having created the supporting parts according to the drawing, attach 3 boards to one of them. The seat will be formed from these boards. At the same time, do not forget to step back from the end part by 5 cm. 4 self-tapping screws must be installed in each board. Two of them will fix the seat to the support on one side, the rest are designed to fix the seat to the other support (on the other side of the product);

Scheme with mounting dimensions transformer benches

  • for each nodal assembly zone, it will be necessary to install 4 fasteners;

Helpful advice! When assembling the assemblies, apply wood glue to these areas. Adhesive composition increase the strength of fixation and durability of the entire structure.

  • after all the parts are prepared for work, the legs, which have backrest and seat support, should be sawn from the end at an angle of about 75º. Using self-tapping screws designed for working with wood, connect the legs in pairs with the middle bars. The optimal length of fasteners is 5 cm;

Rice. 6. Drawing to create a transformer bench: 1 - kinematic diagram of the transformer in the "table" position (1 - position limiters B (pipe 20 × 20 mm, length 35-49 mm), 2 - support rod); 2 - detail C (pipe 40 × 20 - 2 pcs.); 3 - connecting jumpers (pipe 20 × 20 mm). D - for an external bench, D1 - for an internal one; 4 - parts B, B1 (pipe 40 × 20 mm). B1 is mirrored with respect to B; 5 - bench leg (4 pcs.), where: A - steel pipe 40 × 20 mm, 1 - jumpers (pipe 20 × 20 mm - 4 pcs.), 2 - support rod

  • next is the back. In the process of transformation, it turns into a countertop. Locate the longitudinal edge of the support board. Its length is 32 cm. Here you need to attach three boards 150 cm long. In this case, the indent from the end in this case will already be 8 cm;
  • boards are mounted so that a gap of 1 cm is formed between adjacent elements;
  • in the support board, you need to make 3 holes, the diameter of which is 0.8 cm. It is better to perform this procedure in advance. These holes will be used to fix the back of the bench in a horizontal position.

One-piece wooden structure for the garden, consisting of a table and benches

The final stage of the construction of the transformer bench

To create axes of rotation, make 2 holes in the top of the rear leg. Fixing the back to the base of the product will be carried out by a pair of M8 bolts.

One of the holes made will be axial, the second - ordinary. To simplify the operation of the bench, equip the bolt in the area of \u200b\u200bthe axial hole with a nut with 6 edges, for the second, a wing nut is suitable. She should bend her mustache. Due to this simple manipulation, fasteners can be turned away / wrapped without the use of additional tools, but only by hand force.

The key link in the patio is a wooden bench with a back

Upon completion of all work, you need to check the design for operability. Set the backrest in an inclined position and secure it with bolts. Remove the fastening element from the hole and move the backrest to a horizontal position. To fix it, place the bolt in its original place and secure with a nut. The design is completely ready for operational use.

While creating garden benches you can experiment and appear fontasiya. The main thing is that at the same time the product turned out to be durable and practical.

Each household plot should have several benches and benches with backs, so that in good weather you can relax on the street, sit under the gentle sun and just take a break from working in the garden. You can buy such a wooden or metal bench, or you can just make it yourself. In this article, we will look at what types of benches are and how you can make one of them yourself, having everything at hand. necessary tools and materials.

How are the views

There are a large number of benches with a back, and each owner of a country house or cottage chooses for himself the option that is most suitable for the exterior of his backyard.

Benches are very different depending on their scope.

  • Ordinary benches with a back are suitable for any personal plot and fit perfectly into the exterior of the yard. They are comfortable and very practical, as they have simple design and unpretentious in their appearance. Suitable for installation near the house, in the gazebo, near the pond, etc. They can be made of wood, metal, stone, and also be combined (wood and metal, wood and stone, wood and brick, plastic and other building materials).
  • Corner benches will look great where you can’t put an ordinary large bench with a back. They can be placed in the corners of the gazebo, in gardens, as well as in any convenient location on the homestead. Such benches can be metal, wooden, stone and combined.
  • Ordinary backless benches can be installed anywhere, as they are versatile and comfortable enough for any country house. They can be easily made by hand, as they are made according to the most common standard drawing of a classic type.
  • Oval, round or semicircular benches with or without a back will look great in the center of the same round gazebo, in the center of the garden or anywhere else, where they will create an aesthetic exterior for the entire backyard, and also perform their direct functions. Also in the center of a round bench a tree, a green bush can grow, bloom beautiful flower bed or even house a children's sandbox. It all depends on the imagination of the master and the functional needs of the owners of a country house or cottage. They can be made of wood, metal, stone, as well as in a combined form from various natural materials compatible with each other.

Preparatory stage: drawings, dimensions, angle of inclination

Before you start making a bench for your backyard from any type of material, you need to take all measurements and draw up an accurate drawing of the future design. This is necessary so that it turns out to be even without distortions and rolls. Also, the design scheme will help to calculate the required amount of material for the manufacture of shops of any type.

For the manufacture of wooden structures for a personal plot, pine, oak, birch boards or logs are usually used, as well as pear, hornbeam and durable larch. Almost any tree is easy to process, has excellent decorative qualities, and also fits aesthetically into the country landscape. The main advantage of wood is its beautiful aesthetic appearance. But in the meantime, it negatively tolerates the hit sun rays, high humidity and low temperature(very coldy). Therefore, it is best to install wooden benches in closed gazebos, on terraces covered with tents, or make them portable (collapsible) so that you can clean them indoors (pantry, basement, closet) for the winter.

Steel supports will be the most competent choice for making a bench with a wooden seat and back to place it on the territory of a summer residence or a country house. Such a bench will serve you for at least 15 years, and it will not need to be removed during snow or rain.

How to make a wooden bench with a backrest with your own hands

To make a wooden bench, we need:

Before proceeding with the manufacture of a wooden portable bench, it is necessary to saw the boards into certain elements:

  1. All prepared boards must be sanded, all sides smoothed and soaked well with an antiseptic. Then leave until completely dry.
  2. We mark the height of the bench 40 cm. Starting from the very middle in the upper part of the elements of the longest legs that will hold the back, it is necessary to make an oblique cut at a slight angle of about 20 °. Then all the corners of the bars must be cut and sanded on both sides. In this case, the back will have an inclined shape. The sections must be strictly the same, otherwise the bench will end up skewed and will have an unattractive appearance, and it will be uncomfortable to sit on it.
  3. We collect the legs of the bench. The distance between the legs should be about 28 cm. Front (front) and rear wooden pairs of benches for support with invisible inside it is necessary to fasten with the help of prepared bars and self-tapping screws. We connect the legs with a bar, which we cut to the entire width of the structure - by 50 cm. The strapping is best done double - from above and below.
  4. In order to protect self-tapping screws and screws from premature corrosion, it is necessary to pre-drill the necessary holes and slightly deepen their heads into the board.
  5. On the frame of the bench, as shown in the drawing, at certain intervals (1 or 2 cm), we nail or fasten the planks. Three planks for the seat and two boards for the back. After all the elements are stuffed, it is necessary to check the correctness and evenness of the entire structure with a level. For greater reliability, stability and rigidity, the legs at the bottom are knocked down with planks on both sides. It is advisable to leave gaps of several centimeters between the planks for better air circulation and drainage. We fasten the back (first bar) at a distance of 20 cm from the seat, and the second - at a distance of 38 cm from the seat.
  6. The design of the bench needs to be strengthened and for this it is necessary to make the lower trim of the legs. To do this, we take two beams 1.5 meters long and fasten them to the front and rear legs of the bench frame.

Shop decoration

After completion of all carpentry work, the bench must be completely treated with flame retardant and then coated with waterproof varnish in several layers or with ordinary oil paint.

If you want to make the shop more aesthetic and beautiful design, you can simply saw the boards lengthwise and then stuff them diagonally, crosswise or herringbone.

Making a garden bench from wood and metal

A bench with a back, a wooden seat and strong metal legs, will the best option garden furniture that can be installed in your backyard. Such a design, even in winter, can be left on the street without any problems.

Material calculation and necessary tools

To make a bench, we need:

  • One iron corner with a shelf measuring 40 - 50 mm;
  • One beam for the manufacture of bench seats with a thickness of 40 mm;
  • Special bolts;
  • Hacksaw or grinder;
  • Drill;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Welding electric or gas machine;
  • Sandpaper or grinder.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. The metal corner must be cut into four pieces of one meter for manufacturing vertical supports designs. Cut five pieces of half a meter and two pieces of one and a half meters to make a frame for installing a seat and back boards on it.
  2. To make the back and seat, we cut off seven planks from a bar 1.5 meters long and 10 cm wide. We grind them and smooth all the side parts well. Soak all the boards well with an antiseptic and leave to dry completely.
  3. We cut the ends of the joining parts from iron corners exactly at an angle of 45 ° and then connect them in series using hot welding. To begin with, we make a frame for the seat device and weld the iron legs well for subsequent attachment of the backrest to them, as well as the stops. In the process of welding, it is necessary to use protective equipment.
  4. In the boards of the seat and back, where the fasteners will be, it is necessary to drill holes for special bolts. After welding, the metal structure must be well sanded at the seams in order to eliminate all irregularities and bumps. Then treat the metal with a special anti-corrosion coating and oil paint in two layers.
  5. We bolt ready-made back and seat boards to the finished metal frame. We pre-impregnate the boards with a flame retardant (preferably saline) and then cover with a good layer of water-repellent varnish or colored paint.
  6. On the ground, it is necessary to make markings for the legs. To do this, it is necessary to dig four holes about 50 cm deep and pour river sand (about 10 cm) on the bottom, and fine gravel (about 20 cm) on top. Upstairs we lay pieces of roofing material and put a reinforcing mesh. We install the legs of the bench in the pits and check the horizontal evenness of the structure with a level. Then we fill the legs with concrete (the ratio of sand and cement is 3: 1).
  7. If you plan to put a bench on a regular asphalt or paved surface, then you do not need to make a concrete foundation. The legs of the structure are made from four pieces of an iron corner about half a meter long. For greater stability to the bottom of the corners, it is necessary to weld square "heels" or strengthen the entire structure with the help of a lower metal frame.

Finishing

All metal structural elements must be treated with anti-corrosion agents and primed. Then paint with regular oil paint.

We impregnate wooden elements with special antifungal agents, flame retardant, and then paint with waterproof varnish or colored oil paint.

If desired, the metal parts of the bench can be decorated with various wrought iron patterns, which can be forged on your own or purchased ready-made from special firms.

Bench for a personal plot on brick supports

Material calculation and tools

To make a bench, we need:

  • building brick;
  • Wooden boards (thickness about 40 mm);
  • A pack of self-tapping screws and screws;
  • Several bags of cement, fine sifted sand (6 bags or more) and gravel.

step by step

On a stone-paved and concreted area, the bench must be placed on a cement foundation. On soft ground, it will be necessary to make a columnar foundation.

  1. We carry out the marking of the territory for the installation of brick racks and remove upper layer soil (turf). We dig holes with a diameter of 20x20 cm and a depth of about 50 - 60 cm for the foundation. At the very bottom of the well, we pour sand 10 cm thick and crushed stone 20 cm thick on top. We tamp all this well, pour a little water over it and leave it for a day.
  2. We put several pieces of roofing material on top and place a bunch of five reinforcing bars in the hole. All this is poured with concrete and allowed to harden for about three or four days. For concrete mixing, we take cement, sand and fine gravel (1:3:5).
  3. We put a small layer of liquid concrete (1–2 centimeters) on the prepared foundation. This will be the basis for the future brick decorative base. Next, we begin to lay a brick with dressing. The masonry is made necessary for the construction of the width, that is, such as the shop itself will be or a little narrower. The height of the brickwork should be about 50 cm. Inside the masonry on the top row, we leave a place to form a shelf for the subsequent installation of a bench seat.
  4. We fasten the seat boards together with the help of a board and self-tapping screws. Then we install the finished bench on the prepared brick supports. We impregnate the tree with a flame retardant, let it dry and cover it with a special water-repellent varnish or colored paint.
  5. Also, depending on how long the bench will be, it will be necessary to make several brick supports. Corner or figured (semicircular, round, oval) structures are best installed on a solid brick base, which will be located on a tape-type foundation.

Shop decoration

We treat all wooden planks with antifungal agents and flame retardants, and then prime and cover with waterproof varnish or ordinary oil paint. Brickwork does not need additional finishing, as it looks quite beautiful and aesthetically pleasing by itself. If you still want to make it a different color, you can also paint with oil paint.

Video: how to make a bench for a country house yourself

If you make a bench made of wood and metal with your own hands, you can enjoy the fruits of your labor for many years and relax on it in the shade of fruit trees. With proper and timely care for such a wooden bench with metal or brick supports, it will serve for many years. But in order for it not to suffer from heavy rains or snow in winter or autumn, it is best to clean it indoors, if possible. Regular care can significantly extend the life of your bench in the garden.

Respite during the day is just as necessary as sleep at night. To smoke at work in a summer cottage, sit in the shade after long working days, enjoy the long-awaited evening atmosphere or even go in for sports - comfortable wooden benches are used for this.

Buying chic furniture for the street - now few people can afford such a ruin of a wallet. Making a bench with your own hands according to the drawings is a triple benefit:

  • A practical product made of wood, which takes into account all individual wishes and elements, an order of magnitude higher than stamped factory models, focused on saving material. Ordering a bench for an individual master also does not always live up to expectations.
  • Do-it-yourself manufacturing will require costs only for consumables, and if they are already available, then it will do without investments at all.
  • The construction of interior and landscape elements for giving to your own taste can hardly be called work. It is always a pleasure to create something new for yourself with knowledge of the matter, so that later you can be proud and enjoy the labors of your work.

Why wood?

Wood is the most suitable material to make a bench with your own hands. This is due to its qualities:

Requirements for material and tools

Wood must be of high quality. For the bench, you should choose elements without knots, cracks, rotten areas. The convenience of processing and connecting parts, as well as the service life of the finished product, depend on this.

Special attention: only dry wood is suitable for starting work. A wet board is the reason for the deformation of the bench and its destruction when the weather conditions change. Before processing, the material must be thoroughly dried.

The breed is not limited to anything: to make a garden bench for a summer residence, any available wood will do. Oak is the most durable, but heavy. If you stand a bench all your life in one place, it is better to choose it.

Pine is the best choice for any product options. It is the most common building material: wood will be easy to find at home or purchase at the nearest base; affordable, moderately durable, less susceptible to the influence of temperatures. Linden, larch and other species are also used.

Making a bench with your own hands is carpentry work, it will require simple carpentry tools. For the sake of safety and quality of work, it is recommended to use only reliable, serviceable tools. Strongly fixed hammer handles, planer blades, a sharpened hacksaw or a solid blade on an electric saw are the key to effective results.

wooden bench construction

The general structure of a wooden bench will come in handy for those who decide to make it with their own hands. Before starting work, it is recommended to make a drawing of the future creation with the dimensions and arrangement of the elements. It will help you quickly make the necessary wooden parts of the bench and correctly assemble them into one garden structure. Each element of the drawing performs its function, without which the product will be unfinished, unreliable or not convenient enough:

  1. The legs of the bench are supports. For a comfortable landing, they are taken to a height of 40-50 cm from the ground. A lower or higher position forces one to take an unnatural posture, from which rest becomes a torment and an unfavorable strain on the spine. Depending on the length of the wooden benches, a different number of elements are provided: a maximum of every 150 cm. The rear and front supports are at the same level with each other. Usually two pairs are needed, as most wooden benches are small.
  2. Between the legs and seats of the bench, the schemes provide for intermediate transverse and longitudinal beams, because the plane of the seat is not always formed by one board. They are necessarily attached around the perimeter of the seat to the tops of the legs, but if the distance is large, there may be additional transverse elements that are already attached to the longitudinal beams. Intermediate wooden poles may be absent only if the seat of the bench is made of wide boards.
  3. The seat is formed from elements nailed to the intermediate beams and extending beyond the legs by 5-25 cm. It is recommended to choose even boards.
  4. Screed - an element of the strength of the bench. On the drawings, it can be made in different forms, but the function is the same: rigid fastening wooden frame. This can be one beam or board, connected to the ends of the bench legs at a height of 20-30 cm, or corner bars fastening each leg to intermediate beams. The tie prevents loosening of wooden supports.
  5. The backrest is a functional element that divides all benches into two configurations: with and without it. It serves for greater comfort and relaxation of the back. The back should not be vertical at 90 ° - this is an uncomfortable position. Optimal Angle tilt from the plane of the seat - 110-120 °. The presence of the back requires the modernization of the drawing of the legs. The footprint needs to be increased. Geometrically, the load is already distributed on the seat and the horizontal projection of the backrest. The back legs of the wooden bench are extended further from the middle or tilted so that the lower points go back. The back consists of supports and a plane. The first are attached to the legs at an angle, boards or slats are attached to them.

General manufacturing principles

Assembly wooden parts benches are made using screws or nails. The second option is recommended. High-quality long nails will provide a stronger connection, and soft modern self-tapping screws often break and over time can no longer hold the rigidity of a wooden frame.

The wooden surfaces of the seat and backrest must be carefully sanded. The functional planes of the bench can be of different shapes: straight or curved to add beauty and greater convenience. For example, the back of the seat can be made in the form of a boat, and the edges of the seat and back are rounded. The result is achieved by changing the shape of the transverse beams in the drawing (the upper edges are cut out in a wave).

In order to save material and time, you can often find benches where there are gaps between the slats in the seat and back. A simple example: city alleys. This does not cause inconvenience and, in general, is practical, however, it is recommended to avoid such savings when making your own. A capital garden bench made of wood with full-fledged elements is more beautiful and safer for health. The gaps between the seat and back play the role of drafty windows: after sitting on a bench, an unhardened person can get sick.

The order of assembly is not set by anything. If the seats and backs consist of many rails, it is first recommended to make and fasten the frame elements and the screed according to the drawing, and then perform the formation of the planes. If there is no backrest, and the surface of the bench is one large and durable board, it is desirable to use it as a basis for connecting the remaining elements.

Wood processing is a mandatory process. Immediately after the manufacture of the bench, it is necessary to impregnate the wood with insect and fungal protection agents. Further painting will not only give a finished look to a wooden product, but also save it from external weather influences.

decorative value

Those who say that there is no beauty in wooden benches, just no taste. This is one of the landscape and interior elements that form the general view of a summer house or a room. Recreation areas primarily attract the attention of visitors and the owners themselves. That's why beautiful products made of wood, made with their own hands - this is wealth for the home and soul.

Experienced craftsmen, designers and creative beginners often surprise with their unique solutions. When using seemingly the most inappropriate wooden elements - knotty logs, stumps, old snags, masterpieces are created that are proud and admired. Only individual approach to the manufacture of benches with their own hands will help to make the summer cottage unusual and pleasant.

Product Application

The bench is an ambiguous element. The use of finished products extends to the summer cottage, and to living conditions, and for specific needs. Some of its structural features in the manufacture depend on where the wooden bench will be used.

The garden bench is most in demand, because it is necessary in any dacha yard. The backless option is characterized by the presence of only the seat surface, there is no element of vertical back support. Such a bench for a summer residence is less convenient, but it is easier to make it yourself according to the drawings.

The option without a back is chosen by those who do not like to sit still for a long time: a couple of minutes of respite and back to work. The low weight of the product and the simple distribution of the load allow the use of thin wooden or even 2 metal legs. for giving is more attractive, convenient, but more difficult to manufacture.

A beautiful and comfortable bench can be placed on the porch of the house, in the gazebo or in the room where it will play the role of a full-fledged wooden furniture. Often the benches intended for this are supplemented with soft material: the backs and seats are covered with a blanket or bedspread, upholstered with leatherette on cotton wool or foam rubber, faux fur, etc.

For sports needs (for example, for training with dumbbells), a backless wooden bench is a great option to get benefits. Optimal coverage of the seat surface - linoleum with lining.

A do-it-yourself garden bench is not just for relaxing, but an item for decorating a personal plot. Thanks to the original street benches, you can create whole compositions in landscape design that will delight the eyes of the owners, guests and others. This will be the easiest, most affordable and exclusive option for your garden, as it is not difficult to make a bench with your own hands. It is enough to choose the right design and materials, choose the right location and apply a little imagination.

Finding a suitable place for the bench

Why is the choice of location so important for placing a garden bench? If household plot needs a bench, which means that a lot of time will be spent at this place. Therefore, the view that will open before those sitting and the surrounding atmosphere are very important.

Relevant and relevant combinations:

Preparatory work: where to start

After selection optimal location to install a garden bench, you can design a future product. You need to start with preliminary calculations and planning:

  1. Sizing. When creating a bench with your own hands, you can use ready-made parameter calculations that can be found on the Internet or design an individual model, which will take a little more time.
  2. Thinking through the method of fastening the back. Making a regular bench without a back is much easier and faster. But with the backs of the model, they not only look more advantageous, they open up a wide range for creativity and are much more convenient to use.
  3. Leg design. To determine this parameter, you need to rely on the mobility of the product. For example, stationary structures can be fixed in the ground with cement.

The best way to determine all the necessary parameters is to help ready-made drawings and photos of garden benches with your own hands.

Overview of various materials

DIY garden benches can be created from various materials, each of which has its own characteristics. Knowing about these nuances will help you take advantage of each material.

Wood is considered a universal material for creating any furniture, including outdoor furniture.

For garden attributes, the tree species does not really matter, but it is better to choose varieties that are easier to process and are dry. A do-it-yourself bench made of wood will look better if a part of the array without flaws is selected for it.

Plastic allows you to create lightweight products that are easy to move. This material is represented by a huge assortment of various shades. But plastic also has its drawbacks, including:

  • cheapness appearance products;
  • low reliability;
  • susceptibility to burnout;
  • difficulties with the manufacturing process.

If you have soldering skills, the process of creating a product is greatly facilitated, you can also use liquid nails for fastening.

The stone gives the finished benches a very unusual view and special sophistication. Leisure items are ideal for any style of already designed landscape.

But this material is more suitable for well-established production, since it is much more difficult to make a bench with your own hands from stone than from other materials. In addition, the stone also has several disadvantages:

  • difficulties of movement;
  • surface hardness and lack of comfort while sitting;
  • a bare stone surface is harmful to health if you sit on it without additional insulation.

Metal always looks elegant in landscape design. Handmade forging will make the shop an ideal place for your garden.

Very often in finished products a combination of metal with other materials, most often with wood, is used, glass also looks great.

The main criteria for the right bench

Any do-it-yourself bench should be not only the best for your garden decorative ornament, but also meet a number of requirements:

  1. Be safe - when designing, errors or inaccurate calculations should not be allowed. If the design of the product is unreliable, then you can feel discomfort and be subject to increased injury during operation. Therefore, you only need to choose quality materials, fasteners and accessories.
  2. Resistance to external factors - to increase durability and preserve the original appearance, it is worth giving preference to solid materials. If it is planned to design a bench made of wood, then additional processing of the material is necessary, which will give it reliable protection.
  3. Comfort is a basic requirement for any place to sit and relax. Therefore, this moment should be taken care of in advance at the planning stage.

Making a bench from pallets

The easiest and most affordable option for a do-it-yourself bench made of wood is a pallet product. If you add a little imagination in the process of work, you can get a unique and original item for the landscape. 3-4 wooden pallets will be enough, some of them will have to be divided into several more parts.

The simplest option is to fasten two perpendicularly, which results in a seat and back.

Since the pallets are quite bulky, so that the design does not turn out to be rough and large as a result, the pallets must be cut in accordance with the selected dimensions.

All parts of the bench will be connected with self-tapping screws. With the help of self-tapping screws, side strips are attached to give the product greater reliability and strength, as well as bench legs.

The pallets themselves are a rough, rough and unfinished material, so additional sanding will be required to avoid splinters in the future.

The final stage of creating such a bench is coating with paint or varnish. For the convenience of sitting, you can arrange soft capes or pillows.

Bench from old unnecessary chairs

You can create garden benches with your own hands from any materials at hand, for example, old unnecessary chairs can become them. For the finished product you will need 4 chairs with backs.

Seats are removed from all of them, and parts from the front side of two more.

Others need to saw off the front legs under the seat base.

Workpieces must be cleaned of old paint or varnish with a special solvent. When the coating softens, it is removed with a spatula.

The next step is to create holes for the dowels. They must be drilled in the racks on the front and front sides.

Dowels pre-smeared with glue are inserted into the prepared holes.

After the glue has dried, you can approach the collection of the base of the bench. To increase the strength of the structure, self-tapping screws are used for fastening. On the surface of the future product you need to walk with sandpaper.

To sit the bench, you need to additionally pick up a board that is appropriate in size and cut off the excess on it. You can use several narrow boards, which are fastened together with wood glue.

The surface itself is also attached to the base with wood glue. For better bonding, heavy objects are placed on top of the board.
After the glue has completely dried, it is necessary to cover the seat with masking tape, and cover the rest of the structure with wood paint.
After the paint has dried, the adhesive tape can be removed, and the boards can be opened with stain.
The final step is to cover the entire bench with varnish.

Turning a log into a bench

For such a do-it-yourself shop made of wood, the drawings will be superfluous. Here you can completely trust your own imagination and creativity. You will need a log of any shape that you like, about 1 meter long and a chainsaw. The thicker the log, the more spacious the bench will be.

You need to apply markings on the log in order to cut it into 2 unequal parts along it. The smaller one will go to the back, and the larger one will be used as a seat. With the help of a chainsaw, a log is sawn along the mark and all irregularities are immediately removed.

Then, in the resulting parts, you need to cut out a triangular part, which will be used as a fastener called a dovetail. Such recesses are cut out both in the seat and in the back.

The resulting triangular layer must be cut into pieces and inserted into the holes of the future seat, and fixed at the top into the back.
The do-it-yourself shop is almost ready, it remains only to decorate it.

You can use small logs as legs, tightly fixing a bench on them, or experiment with other options.

Metal bench

You can independently make not only wooden benches, but also metal benches. Most often, a metal frame is used, it will not be difficult to make it even for those who do not have experience in forging. To create a framework, the method is used cold forging, in which you can complement products with any details and decorations.

Creating a metal bench with a wooden base and back goes through the following main steps:

  1. Size selection - you can independently calculate all the main parameters for a future project or use standard measurements. In them, the length of the seat will be 1.5 m, the width is 0.5 m, and the size of the back is 90 cm.
  2. Creating a framework. The first step is to make a seat. You will need 2 pieces of pipe 150 cm and 40 cm long. To increase the strength of the product, additional stiffeners of the transverse and longitudinal directions are welded to the pipes.
  3. Leg manufacturing. According to the standard scheme, the length of the legs is 46 cm. It is under this length that the pipes are cut. To increase the degree of stability of the interior item, you must first connect all four legs to each other.
  4. The design of the back consists in welding pipes with dimensions of 150 cm and 44 cm to each other. When this stage is completed, the back is attached to the finished part of the product. The optimal backrest tilt is up to 20°. It allows you to provide maximum comfort during operation.
  5. Implementation of polishing - cleaning of all existing joints, metal polishing and coating with primer.
  6. Preparation of wooden parts. These elements are attached to metal frame. They give the shop a finished look. They can be made from timber or boards, the dimensions are selected according to the dimensions of the finished frame. The wooden parts must already be fully prepared, have a smooth finished surface without roughness and damage.
  7. Fastening parts. For attaching wooden parts used for forging electric jigsaw, it is also necessary to drill several holes in the base and wooden elements to fasten them. The fasteners are bolts with rounded caps and nuts.
  8. The final stage is the coating of wooden areas with stain, and then with varnish. These actions will help the material last longer and protect it from the negative effects of external factors.

Drawings of simple garden benches made of wood:

The finished bench will have mass positive sides. For example, ease of transportation - due to the combination of materials, the product will have a low weight, resistance to temperature extremes, which allows you to effectively operate the bench on the street for several years in a row without compromising its appearance.

Ideas for outdoor benches

A beautiful and comfortable bench for decorating a garden can be made from absolutely any available materials that can support a person’s weight. You can implement one of the proposed ideas in your own:

When creating garden benches with your own hands, it will be useful to use the basic recommendations that will make your work easier and help you avoid some difficulties:

  • when buying material, it is necessary to take into account the share of losses of about 10%;
  • to save material and avoid overspending, you need to start cutting from the longest boards;
  • when deviating from standard sizes and creating a seat of greater width, one should take into account the likelihood of wood deflections in the absence of a reliable frame;
  • to increase the safety of the product, it is necessary to eliminate all pointed and angular edges in advance;
  • when creating all the drawings and calculations of a wooden structure on your own, you need to remember the predisposition of the material to dry out.

Do-it-yourself bench with a back - video

Among the small architectural forms the most common benches and benches. It can be made from any materials or their combinations: wood, metal, stone, concrete, plastic, glass.

They are everywhere: city streets and squares, parks and squares, sports and educational establishments, public institutions and residential premises. Practically required element landscape design, plot of a private house or cottage.

The easiest and most affordable material to process is wood. Do-it-yourself wooden benches provide an opportunity to save money, demonstrate home craftsmanship and be a creator.

Wooden benches: economy option

Make wooden benches using existing "blanks". It is enough to process a little, to assemble a strong and functional structure - with a seat, back and legs.

Moreover, such "modules" are inexpensive, sometimes purchased for "penny". We are talking about pallets, or pallets.

But not everyone is suitable for garden furniture. Do not use products from non-grade or unedged boards. In the first case, large knots can fall out, in the second, “aesthetic” qualities suffer.

There are cases when the step of fastening the board is clearly not suitable for a bench.

The pallet is a wonderful donor for the shop

A pallet is better, as in the photo. With a corner chamfer removed along the contour.

The width of the pallet is great for bench seating. It must be cut off, the rest can go to the backrest device.

If the width of the back is not enough, then the bench will have to be made from two pallets.

Seats and back are part of the design. Need legs. Let's make pallets from the board itself.

  • the bench may not be stable

rigidity is ensured by the seat, and the area for attaching the legs is quite small. Usually, a lower bundle is added so that they do not “disperse”. A simpler option is to use another pallet as a base (more precisely, part of it)

or two. Do-it-yourself benches, benches made of wood in detail and clearly.

Fixing the back, as can be seen from the examples, can be done with a pair of rails, boards, rope or rope. The assembled shop, its surface is cleaned, sanded, varnished or painted.

You can not cut the pallets in width and make a garden sofa.

There are examples of the use of pallet boards for the manufacture of other products from the class of small architectural forms. There are also flowerpots in the photo.

It is not necessary to spend time disassembling pallets, but it is better to buy standard lumber.

Simple bench forms: board and timber

There are designs and execution options - from the simplest to specimens with wood carvings, worthy of being called real works of applied art.

The easiest option for manufacturing is a wooden bench without a back.

The drawing shows a do-it-yourself wooden bench, completely made of a board with a thickness of 75 mm.

Bench made of boards and timber

Each element consists of two parts.

The seat with beveled ends is assembled from two boards. If the bench will stand in an open area or outside a heated room, then it is better to provide a gap. It will allow water to drain and compensate for the swelling of the tree.

The leg consists of two glued elements. For the reliability of the end connection, a pin (dowel) is inserted. Two short support beams and seat mounts are attached to the leg. The legs and beams are connected with grooves, fixed with glue and self-tapping screws. When assembled, the leg and beam are attached to the seat board with two pairs of self-tapping screws and dowels, holes are pre-drilled under them.

Assembly order

1. Cut out the workpiece;

2. Process the ends and clean the surfaces for gluing;

3. Glue the legs;

4. Beams are attached to them;

5. Gather a shop;

6. Sanded and varnished (or painted).

Images and drawings of a bench from a 30 mm board with a support beam.

Bench from a board 30 mm with a support beam

There are already figured elements in the form of legs with radius cutouts. You can make it easier to work and make them rectangular. The drawing is not a dogma - it can be taken as a basis and changed in the direction of simplification, and in the direction of complication. They do the same with sizes - they make the shop wider, shorter, etc.

What is the difference between this option and the previous one?

One long support beam is used instead of four short ones, it also performs the function of a stiffener for the base - the legs and the whole structure are more stable. The connection of the legs and the beam goes through a thorn-groove, and it is much easier to cut the thorn out. That is, this form is a little easier to manufacture, more stable and gives more room for experimentation.

Below are several options for a similar design, but in a different design.

For example, in the style of minimalism - there are not even protruding edges. Splicing according to the tenon-groove principle is used to connect the legs and the seat.

In this model, the task was simplified as much as possible - they even refused to cut out grooves and spikes. The connection between the legs and the beam in this case is best done using confirmations, and not self-tapping screws (they have a larger contact area). For strength, a couple of dowels are usually added on each side, planted on glue. Hidden fastening of the seat is done on a dowel, open - on a self-tapping screw.

If the bench is not very long, then the beam can be placed below. In such a design, it performs exclusively the role of a stiffener.

In the photo below you can see an unusual case of using a dowel - it fastens the beam to the legs not with a hidden installation, but with an open one.

In this bench, a bar was attracted to the "help" board.

Legs with crossbars and two oblique stops for sitting are made of it. All fastenings are made on confirmations, and the connection of the bar of legs to each other is carried out using grooves.

Here, too, a bar is used for the base. Due to the large thickness of the seat board, it does not require additional support. The lower beam serves as a stiffener.

Making a small bench with a back is not much more difficult. The principle of installation and fasteners is similar to simple benches: grooves, spikes, dowels, glue, self-tapping screws and confirmations.

You can take the design with "solid" legs from the board as a basis. Move them a little from the center to the edge so that the ends of the seat and legs are in the same plane. Attach vertical beams to the legs and screw the back to them.

Bench with carved back

For a model whose base is made of a bar, the back is even easier to make. Two pairs of legs: front - for seat support, rear (high) - for attaching the carrier beam, seat and backrest.

These were light and “mobile” bench and bench designs made of wood, which can be used with equal success in an open area, under a canopy or indoors. There are more massive forms focused on "stationary" placement.

Benches: large format

Making a bench from wood with your own hands for a summer residence involves the use of any form of material. Including those that are used in the construction of wooden houses.

For example, a bar. For reference: a beam is classified as such if the aspect ratio is not more than 1:2, and the smaller side has a size of 100 mm or more. Reducing the size translates such lumber into the category of "bar".

It is not easy to assemble such a shop, as in this photo, with your own hands, but you can.

Assembling the legs is not difficult at all. The only difference from the board and the bar is that you will need more powerful fasteners. For example, such self-tapping bolts for wood.

Under their head, you will have to expand the hole (but the confirmations also require this) and put a washer.

It is much more difficult to install and install the seat.

To “tie” the beam together, three metal studs are needed, with a length almost the width of the seat, and two - the width of the bench, taking into account the legs. It is difficult to find such on sale - you will have to make them from round fittings (stainless steel). The gap between the timber can be maintained with the help of wooden board plates strung on studs. The thickness of the plates should be the same as the three supporting vertical beams that support the seat in the center of the bench.

And this copy is made of even more powerful timber (150 × 100). Its assembly is much easier. Two seat beams are attached from below through short cross beams, which are then mounted to the T-shaped legs.

Another easy-to-execute example using a large-format board. The bearing capacity of the material is such that it does not require the use of reinforcing beams - the seat is attached to the ends of the short legs. The author of the project knows well that the most rigid geometric figure is a triangle. Therefore, both the configuration of the lower part of the supports and their connection to each other by bolts has the shape of an equilateral triangle.

If it is possible to order two non-standard wooden beams, then making such a bench with your own hands will not be difficult: you will need to “add” four short bars (100 × 100) for the legs and two bars (100 × 50) for the back.

Bench made of timber

But if there is no such possibility, then instead of a non-standard beam, you can use a pair of standard ones.

Such a garden bench made of wood with its own hands already uses logs.

The most difficult thing in this option is to make a longitudinal groove and a spike for connecting logs with an ax (or adze). For reliable fixation, you will need another pair of dowels on each side (this is the same dowel, but only thicker and longer). The seat and back can be made of board (as in the photo) or timber. Do-it-yourself benches, benches made of wood - ideas and solutions.

And this version of the bench is already more complicated.

But not much. The main difficulty is to make a back, or rather a notch on it. All fastenings of the parts of the structure to each other pass through dowels.

Basically, such wooden fastener strong enough - log cabins with a couple of floors (including wooden churches) used to be built without a single nail.

And a very simple option: two decks with a groove and half a log, sawn lengthwise.

Wooden bench

In conclusion, a couple of examples of how you can make a bench out of wood, but not purchased, but found in the nearest planting or forest. Benches, benches made of wood with their own hands from auxiliary material.

In this example, only the seat is made of plank, everything else is made of natural material, which had to be selected in thickness and adjusted in size.

To make the seat of such a shop, you need a professional tool, so you will either have to order a longitudinal sawing of a log, or (which is easier) take an unedged board as a blank.
