What is the vinyl laminate on? Vinyl laminate - types, features of laying. For this job you will need

Vinyl laminate- This is one of the most modern variations of flooring. This material has many advantages. One of the main positive qualities of this material is that the laying of vinyl laminate can be done by hand in as soon as possible. The coating is somewhat more expensive than the closest analogues, but its service life is much longer.

What you need to know before installing vinyl laminate flooring

Before you decide to put such a laminate, you need to know that this common name combines several different types materials. The main component is the same - they are all made of vinyl, but the performance can vary significantly. It can be a flexible laminate with smart tape and adhesive backing, vinyl flooring with locks and tiles. The laying technology of each of them has its own characteristics. However, having dealt with common features laying, you will cope with the installation of any coating.

Before laying the laminate, it must be allowed to rest. Bringing coated boxes into the house, do not rush to unpack them immediately. This is done so that the laminate adapts to the surrounding conditions. If the material was transported at an air temperature below +10 degrees, then the box can be opened no earlier than after 2 days. If it was warmer outside, it will be enough to wait 1 day.

In order for the self-laying of the laminate to be as quick, easier and better as possible, it is necessary that the air temperature in the room does not fall below +15 and does not rise above +26 degrees within 24 hours before the start finishing works and the same amount of time after their completion.

Laying the laminate should be carried out at a humidity not higher than 60%.

In the event that the laminate is mounted on a heated floor, the system must be turned off 3-4 days before laying and not turned on for at least 6 days after its completion.

To install vinyl laminate flooring, you will need the following tools:

  • stationery knife;
  • ruler;
  • pencil;
  • roulette;
  • square.

Surface Preparation Guide

Before laying laminate flooring, the surface must be cleaned and allowed to dry. This requirement is true for any type of coverage. It is especially important to observe it if the laminate will be glued directly to the base, i.e. if non-floating laying is performed.

Substrate moisture content should not exceed 5%. Vinyl laminate does not allow moisture to pass through, so if it is in excess, it will simply collect under the coating and gradually destroy the adhesive composition. After a while, the finish will fall off.

A hygrometer is used to measure surface moisture. If you do not have such a device, you can use the following method: take a piece of plastic film 100x100 cm, lay it on the surface and fix it around the perimeter with adhesive tape. Leave for 24 hours. If condensation collects on the inner surface of the film, the humidity of the base exceeds the permissible limits.

The procedure for leveling the surface varies depending on which coating will be laid. So, if it is planned to lay tiles that are glued to the base, the surface must be carefully leveled. Otherwise, all defects will be imprinted on the laminate. Many manufacturers attach great importance to leveling the floor and recommend using special self-leveling compounds for this.

Laminate, laid on the so-called. floating technology, does not stick to the surface, so the alignment can be ignored. It will be enough just to close up deep cracks with putty. For example, a flexible vinyl laminate with adhesive locks can even be laid on a surface with differences of up to 3 mm per 1 m². Some varieties of such a coating can even be laid on the old finish, without the need for its preliminary dismantling.

Surface preparation is completed by cleaning of debris, it must be dedusted. If dust gets on the adhesive lock or mixture, this will reduce the adhesion of the laminate to the base. The surface must be thoroughly swept and vacuumed, and then primed.

Step by step instructions for laying laminate flooring

The technology of laying a vinyl laminate in the event that panels with locks are being installed does not provide for the creation of markings. Such materials belong to the express methods of fast flooring, so there is nothing superfluous in the process of laying them. Laying such a laminate starts from the wall farthest from the entrance opening. The first tiles are fixed in the corner. The entire surface is gradually filled towards the exit.

The coating, which uses glue, is laid on a pre-marked surface. First you need to find the center of the base, the field of which, relative to the center, divides the surface into 4 equal sections. Laying tiles or planks begins within the area that is the furthest away from the entrance. The first tiles are laid out from the previously established center of the room.

Take a notched trowel and apply dispersion or acrylic adhesive to the surface. Wait until it dries a little and start laying the laminate. Work is carried out in the direction away from you, i.e. you will need to move forward on the already mounted cover. Fill the entire surface and check the quality of the installation. Pay special attention to corners and edges. They must be necessarily even, otherwise you can not count on the durability of the coating - the elements will disappear. It is better to correct such defects immediately.

Excess glue must be removed from the coating with a clean cloth dipped in soapy water. Floors can be washed at least 24 hours after laying is completed. Furniture and other interior items can be brought into the room no earlier than after 2 days. During this time, the adhesive that you used when laying the laminate will dry completely and gain the desired strength. Covering with smart-tape or adhesive-based does not require such precautions. Furniture can be brought in immediately after finishing work is completed.

It is important not only to install the laminate correctly, but also to monitor and properly care for it after installation. Stains from various kinds of food should be removed immediately with a special liquid cleaner for such surfaces. It is not recommended to use dishwashing detergents, soap, various household powders, etc. The best option is a biodegradable cleaner. It does not need to be washed off with water and leaves no residue. The same tool should be used to remove any stains. When using a liquid cleaner, follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Stubborn soiling and stubborn stains can be removed by polishing the flooring. First you need to thoroughly sweep or vacuum the flooring to remove any dirt and loose particles. In this case, it is not recommended to mix polishes and cleansers, because. this will reduce the cleaning quality.

Be sure to find out what products your laminate manufacturer recommends for cleaning. Exists decorative coating with a non-porous and dense surface. This ensures that the coating is protected from dirt and wear. Do not use wax to clean this laminate. It will not penetrate into the structure of the material, which will lead to an even more intensive accumulation of contaminants. If it is used intensively enough and its appearance has deteriorated, you can use a special cleaner and polish for vinyl coating. Such decorative laminate very easy to maintain, but to keep it looking good for the entire time of operation, you need to periodically apply polish to it.

If you notice deep scratches on the coating, it is better to replace the damaged elements immediately. Less deep scratches (these usually appear during simple home use) can be tried with a vinyl matte finish. Apply it in 1-2 layers.

If you are unable to resolve the problem yourself, please consult with your flooring manufacturer. Successful work!

Vinyl flooring is becoming increasingly popular on the market due to its versatility and absolute resistance to moisture. But many buyers are still afraid to purchase such products, thinking that it may be difficult to lay a vinyl laminate with their own hands. Let's take a closer look at the principles and features of laying plastic flooring.

Laying plastic laminate

Contrary to popular belief, laying PVC laminate will not cause problems for anyone. home master. The type of fasteners used does not play a big role.

Laying methods

The choice of a specific solution depends on the materials used:

  • Classic castle method. Relevant if the plastic laminate has a lock. To connect the panels, you just need to insert the locks into each other until a characteristic click. The rest of the floor is laid in the same way, the process is similar to assembling a puzzle.
  • Adhesive vinyl installation. In this case, it is necessary to purchase special adhesive compositions for attaching the coating to the base. Therefore, the method is rarely used. This option is relevant when mounting vinyl on the wall.
  • Laying self-adhesive vinyl panels. In contrast to the previous method, the adhesive is already applied to the back surface of the panels, which facilitates the installation of the coating. This method is often used for laying vinyl flooring on a warm floor system.
  • Laying PVC laminate with adhesive smart tape. At the ends of each panel there is a tape with an adhesive composition, which ensures the bonding of two adjacent panels. Laying takes place in the same way as a conventional lock laminate, but instead of a lock, the panels are fastened to each other using a smart tape. This method is great for soft laminate. Only parts of the floor are glued together, not latched.

Please note: when laying vinyl laminate on adhesive, the substrate is not used! This also applies to self-adhesive models. And when laying a plastic laminate with a smart tape or lock, you can use the substrate.

Applicable tools

Depending on the type of PVC laminate used, the use of one or another tool from the following list is required:

  1. Special scissors or knife for cutting flexible laminate;
  2. Spacers-limiters (wedges);
  3. Pencil and ruler;
  4. Construction roulette;
  5. Light hammer or mallet;
  6. Scotch;
  7. Special adhesives, if required;
  8. Roller for rolling coating during adhesive fixation.

Do-it-yourself vinyl laminate flooring

Laminate is one of the most popular floor coverings. Compared to other materials, this is relatively inexpensive way to equip an aesthetic and durable floor in a house or apartment. A large selection of pattern textures and colors allows you to solve any design idea.

In this article, we will talk about the features and benefits of vinyl laminate flooring. Consider how to lay a vinyl laminate with your own hands.

Material Advantages

Almost all types of laminate are strong enough, easy to install and require minimal maintenance. The only significant drawback of a conventional laminate is that the coating deteriorates under the influence of moisture. This is due to the fact that earlier it was made from fiberboard or MDF. Such materials from frequent contact with moisture swell and the floor covering is deformed.

Vinyl laminate - waterproof (photo #2)

Vinyl laminate solves the problem of water resistance of the coating. It has absolute resistance to moisture and a number of advantages:

  • High wear resistance and durability. Most vinyl laminate manufacturers offer a 10-25 year warranty.
  • Strength and resistance to mechanical damage. Heavy objects can stand on such a laminate without problems. The coating is not scratched (if there are animals in the house, this type of laminate is optimal).
  • Chemical resistance and fire resistance.
  • Suitable for any interior - the market offers a large selection of options for patterning textures, colors, imitations for various materials.
  • Antistatic. Does not accumulate electrical charges.
  • Provides additional sound and heat insulation. Does not make noise when walking - ideal for homes with children.
  • Ease of installation and operation. Easy to install and requires minimal maintenance during operation.
Mounting methods

There are two main ways to attach vinyl laminate - adhesive and castle.

Adhesive vinyl laminate

With the adhesive method, the panels of the material are glued together. Some models of vinyl laminate are produced with an adhesive layer already applied. This layer is protected by a special film. Before laying the laminate on the base, the film is removed and the panel is laid on the base.

In other models, glue is used only where a secure fixation is needed. As a rule, these are joints and junctions of panels to each other.

Laying the coating on the glue (photo No. 3)

What is wrong with the adhesive method of fastening:

  • Requires additional costs for glue (if the laminate does not have an adhesive layer).
  • Works on adhesive fastening take more time and require special skills.
  • After laying, it takes 12-14 hours for the adhesive to firmly set and the coating become reliable. Walking on the floor during this time is not allowed.
  • After gluing, it will be quite problematic to dismantle the coating or change the laying order. If part of the coating is damaged during operation, it will not be possible to replace the damaged part.

Laying vinyl laminate with a lock

Laying laminate with a mechanical lock (photo #4)

An alternative to this method of fastening is laying a vinyl laminate with a mechanical lock. Lockable panels have special grooves. Locks are inserted into each other until they click. This mount is more beneficial:

  • Installation does not require special installation skills.
  • You can quickly mount the entire coating.
  • If necessary, the coating can be easily disassembled and shifted in a different way.
  • If one part is damaged during operation, it can be dismantled and replaced with a new one.
  • Immediately after laying the vinyl laminate with a lock, it can be walked on. No need to wait 12 hours, as is the case with adhesive fastening.

Set of tools for laying vinyl laminate

When laying a vinyl laminate with your own hands, you need to prepare necessary tools. Here is a list of what you might need.

Cutting tool

Laminate cutting (photo #5)

When laying vinyl laminate, you will need to cut the panels to fit required dimensions. For this, a hacksaw or hand saw. If possible, use electric jigsaw or Bulgarian. So it's more convenient and faster.

Note. When cutting laminate, chips may appear at the cut site. To prevent this from happening, stick masking tape on this place before cutting.

Spacers-limiters (wedges)

These are small wedge-shaped pegs. They are installed along the edges of the laminate flooring to provide a thermal gap.

Pencil

Needed for marking on the laminate - in the place where the incision will be made. You can also use a marker instead of a pencil.

Construction square

A tool in the form of two rulers connected at an angle of 90o. Used to check different planes and perpendicularity of one part to another.

During installation work on laying the laminate, a square will be needed to mark perpendicular lines on the surface (so that you can cut off the extra piece evenly).

Marking with a square (photo No. 7)

Construction tape measure

An indispensable tool for any installation work. Using a tape measure, you will need to measure the required length of the panel before cutting and laying.

light hammer

When laying it is very important that the laminate panels fit snugly together. There should be no gaps or gaps between them. Pressing as tightly as possible is not always possible manually. Therefore, for such purposes, you should use a light hammer or mallet.

Note. Panels should be knocked out carefully, without strong blows, otherwise the lock connection may be damaged.

How to use a hammer when laying the floor (photo # 8)

Note. Additionally, when fitting, a special wooden or plastic bar is used (it is also called a slab). The bar is applied to the panel and hit with a hammer. In this way, the shock load is distributed more evenly and the risk of damage to the lock is significantly reduced.

Substrate surface requirements

Before laying the laminate, you need to prepare the base. Here are the basic requirements for the surface for mounting vinyl laminate:

  • Should be smooth and well sanded. Some types of vinyl laminate can be laid directly on a concrete floor. Therefore, there should be no bulges, irregularities, small sharp protrusions on the surface.
  • Must be dry. Humidity level - no more than 5%.
  • Before laying the surface should be cleaned of dust, debris and dirt.

If there are cracks on the surface of the base, they should be treated with repair compounds (putty can be used), and then sanded.

Do you need a vinyl underlay? Some types of laminate can be installed without a backing. For rigid vinyl laminate with castle type connection substrate is still required.

To do this, you can use a cork or a substrate made of extruded polystyrene.

Vinyl laminate installation

Preliminary preparations

Before laying the vinyl laminate, you must first bring the packages with the laminate panels into the room where the installation work. The material must stand at room temperature(optimally - 18–24 ° C) for at least 24 hours. This is necessary in order for the laminate to adapt to temperature and humidity. Laminate packages should be opened immediately before laying.

When installing a vinyl laminate, you also need to turn off underfloor heating if they are equipped in the room.

Storage Requirements: Packages must be stored in a horizontal position. The maximum number of packs in one stack is 15.

Stage 1. Preparation of the base

Do-it-yourself vinyl laminate laying begins with preparatory work. It is important that the base is rigid and even. The better the base is prepared, the more reliable the floor covering will be and the longer it will last without loss of strength and integrity.

Here's what to do:

  1. Remove old coating. Clean the surface of old paint or other overlays.
  2. Inspect the surface for irregularities.
  3. Treat the irregularities with putty. If there are strong unevenness on the surface (significant height difference), level it with a leveling screed.
  4. Sand the surface and dry.
  5. After drying, clean the surface of dust and lay the substrate in one layer.

Stage 2. Installation of panels

Installation can be started from any angle. The panels are laid in rows, sequentially.

  1. Lay the first panel, and then attach the second panel to it using the end lock. Thus form the first row.
  2. Before styling last panel in the row, measure the distance between the wall and the previous panel. Take a new panel, mark this distance on it and add 10 mm of technological gap. Excess - cut off.

The gap around the perimeter of the floor (photo No. 12)

  1. Install spacer wedges between the wall and the first row of panels. This will help to avoid shifting of the coating during the installation of subsequent rows.
  2. Check the evenness of the laying using the building level.
  3. Panels of an adjacent row should be laid with an offset of ⅔ or half a panel (so that the end connections of the panels are not at the same level). Therefore, if you are joining a panel of the second row to a whole panel of the first, cut off half of the new one and start laying the second row.

Laying panels with offset (photo No. 13)

  1. Connect the panel edge of the second row with the first row at an angle of 25o. Then slowly lower down until fully fixed. Connect the next panels in the second row with end locks.
  2. In the course of joining the panels, knock them out with a hammer or a rubber mallet so that the panel locks snap into place and lock into place.
  3. After laying the second row, continue the installation of subsequent rows in the same way.

How to lay panels near curly elements? Use a cardboard template to mount panels around wall curves or other shaped structural elements. Make the necessary markings on a sheet of cardboard, make a cut desired shape. Then attach the template to the laminate panel and cut off the excess.

There are also special templates for copying forms (photo No. 14)

Conclusion

Vinyl laminate - optimal solution for residential flooring. When choosing a laminate, you should give preference to panels with a locking type of connection. They are easier to install, do not require additional costs for glue, and in case of damage to one section of the floor, the panel can be replaced.

At self-assembly laminate, follow all recommendations for storing the material and preparing the base. Also, be careful with locking joints. Correct technique laying - guarantee of a reliable and durable floor.

Vinyl laminate flooring is now very widely used as flooring. Considerable service life combined with a very attractive appearance make it a real favourite. Moreover, having received the necessary knowledge and spending some free time, laying this coating can be done independently without the participation of professional specialists.

How to lay vinyl laminate?

In order for a vinyl laminate laid with your own hands to serve as reliably and for a long time as possible, several important nuances must be taken into account.

After acquisition this species The floor covering must necessarily adapt well to the conditions in the room. Therefore, for some time he just needs to lie down in an unpacked state. In the event that this material was transported to its destination at an air temperature below +10°C, the packaging with the laminate can only be opened after two days. With warmer and more favorable temperature conditions one day will be enough.

In addition, as the instructions say, do-it-yourself vinyl laminate laying should be carried out at an air temperature in the room not lower than +15 and not higher than +26 ° С. Moreover, this level must be maintained not only during the process of laying this floor covering, but also for twenty-four hours after the completion of all work. Particular attention must be paid to the humidity of the air in the room where the installation takes place - it should not exceed 60%.

Quite often, vinyl laminate is laid on floors that have a heating function. In such cases, at least three days in advance, the system must be turned off, and re-enabled only after at least six days from the date of completion of all stages of work.

To make the installation as successful as possible, you will need a set of simple and affordable tools:

The technology of laying a vinyl laminate with your own hands is not particularly difficult. The most important thing here is to follow the strict sequence of all stages of work.

Starting self-laying vinyl laminate, it is necessary to perform a thorough cleaning of the floor surface, and then dry it well. It should be borne in mind that the humidity level of the subfloor should not be higher than 5%. Vinyl laminate has the ability to completely impervious to moisture. In this regard, if it turns out to be too much, it will inevitably accumulate right under the floor covering and have a destructive effect on the adhesive used. This, in turn, can lead to a complete backlog of the finishing material.

In any case, a moisture measurement must be carried out before laying vinyl laminate. This can be done most accurately using special device- hygrometer. But even in the absence of it, there is a very effective and simple method. To do this, you need to attach a small piece of polyethylene film to the base of the floor using ordinary adhesive tape. Twenty-four hours later, it must be carefully examined. The presence of condensation on the inner surface is a confirmation that the permissible humidity level has been exceeded.

Depending on the technology of laying the laminate, the methods for leveling the surface may differ from each other. If this coating is to be installed using the glueless method, it is enough to treat existing cracks with putty.

Instructions for laying vinyl laminate without glue, through the use of special locks, implies preliminary cleaning of the surface from dust and other contaminants. This is necessary to ensure the best adhesion to the base.

In this case, it is not at all necessary to perform preliminary markup. The process is very fast and simple. It is necessary to start laying from the farthest wall in relation to the entrance opening. Having securely fastened the first few panels in the corner, it is necessary, sequentially interlocking the locks, to move towards the exit until the entire surface is covered with vinyl laminate.

Many people prefer to lay vinyl laminate on an adhesive solution. This method is very high quality and reliable. Laying a vinyl laminate on a video will help you easily cope with this responsible process with your own hands. Looking at the photo, you can quickly understand this technology.

Laying a vinyl laminate with an adhesive solution includes several steps:

  • preliminary marking of the surface;
  • application of adhesive composition;
  • laying laminated panels;
  • correction of existing defects;
  • removal of adhesive residues;
  • thorough drying of the surface.

First of all, it is necessary to accurately determine the center of the base and, focusing on it, divide this surface into four sections of the same size. Do-it-yourself laying of vinyl laminate should begin from the most remote area. It is recommended to use an acrylic or dispersion adhesive for this purpose. For the most effective and high-quality application, it is best to use a notched trowel. At the same time, laminated panels should be laid in the direction away from you.

After the entire surface is filled, it is necessary to check the quality of the coating. If even the slightest defects are detected, they must be promptly eliminated so that the laminate can last as long as possible. After laying, remove adhesive residue with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water.

To make everything work out very reliably and efficiently, you need to figure out how to get around the corner when laying the vinyl laminate. In this situation, instructions, videos and photos will be very useful.

There are several ways to go around corners, depending on the design. If they meet in the direction of travel on the right side, it is not difficult to deal with them. For this you need:

  • having reached the corner, measure the length to the ledge and its width on the whole board;
  • add a gap;
  • check several times;
  • saw off the desired area.

When placing the corner on the left side in the direction of travel, some difficulties may arise, since this option affects the geometry of several panels at once. The best way out of this situation is to create a false row. For this you need:

  • add a whole laminated panel to the stacked row;
  • attach several laminated panels to the extreme left position;
  • align all faces and connect all locks;
  • carefully measure learned niches;
  • transfer measurements to workpieces;
  • check all sizes and locations of locks several times;
  • carefully saw off;
  • disassemble the false row;
  • carry out the installation of sawn blanks.

In this case, the connection of locks is carried out exclusively from right to left.

Do-it-yourself installation of vinyl laminate flooring is a completely feasible process. With help useful instructions, photos and videos, even a novice master will be able to cope with this task.

Samples and laminate options

Each new row should be 1/3 shorter than the other, then the floors will look more natural, and the laying process will be much simpler.

There are several types of vinyl laminate available. There are imitations various materials: tile, wood, marble, stone and other materials.

Vinyl flooring is often installed in high traffic areas. For this, manufacturers produce a special coating. His upper layer covered with additional protection, and the carrier layer is made thicker.

Vinyl laminate flooring has excellent impact resistance characteristics, it can withstand point directed impacts.

The self-adhesive vinyl element is very popular. It is used for flooring in the bath, basement, bathroom.

Laminate has a pleasant appearance, according to this indicator, it occupies one of the first places among floor coverings. Manufacturers produce a laminate that imitates wood, it is done so skillfully that it is difficult for a non-specialist to determine the imitation.

Vinyl laminate has good sound insulation, keeps heat well. It is laid on various surfaces, and it is not necessary to carry out any special preliminary work, it is enough to clean the old floor from dust and dirt.

Vinyl self-adhesive version is not affected by chemicals and moisture. Manufacturers add stone chips to it. From this, it becomes very strong and can withstand a load of 100 kg per 1 cm², ultraviolet rays do not affect the coating in any way. The surface becomes non-flammable and does not slip, even if there is water on it, this is especially true in crowded places.
