How to use laminate on the wall in the interior of various rooms. Non-standard solution: wall decoration with laminate Decorative wall decoration with laminate

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of laminate on the wall in the interior:

 • stronger than MDF and PVC panels, will not break upon impact;
 • does not absorb moisture due to the dense structure and protection by the polymer layer;
 • easy to clean with regular soapy detergent;
 • a wide choice of colors and textures, imitation of natural wood;
 • environmentally friendly;
 • convenient in laying.

Flaws:

 • the cost is higher than that of panels;
 • the material requires a solid surface and reliable fastening due to its heavy weight;
 • suitable for finishing rooms with a constant low indicator of humidity, the material does not tolerate temperature changes.

To create an accent in the interior, as in the photo, you can sheathe a part of the wall and ceiling with a board, as well as complement the design with lighting.

Laminate color

Laminate colors can be divided into cold and warm groups, and when repairing, you need to stick to one color. It comes in shades of green, blue, white, red, brown.

You can choose a color to match the furniture and walls, or you can make a contrasting wall in the interior, both options are appropriate depending on the design. You should also pay attention to the brightness of the laminate, which determines whether there will be a fusion of colors, or contrast in one group of shades. The color can be matched to the door or the color of the floor.

colorful

The combination of laminate on the wall requires harmony with the main interior decoration:

 • When laying an entire wall with a dark laminate, it is better to paste over the rest in plain and light wallpaper;
 • Dark plaster in the interior will look good in contrast with white laminate;
 • To create an endless space, you can finish the wall and floor with one laminate.

Photo in the interior of the living room

Finishing with laminate is appropriate in rooms for any purpose, it is important in each case to combine the color of the panels with the main color of the finish.

Laminate on the wall in the interior of the living room can be mounted both vertically and horizontally, it depends on the size of the room. For example, horizontal panels are only suitable for tall living rooms and will make it visually wider. Vertical installation is suitable for a small room and will make the ceilings visually higher.

The photo shows an accent wall of horizontal panels with mirrored inserts, which creates a sense of depth in the room, which continues beyond the laminate.

Laminate on the wall in the kitchen

The laminate on the wall in the interior of the kitchen can be used as an accent contrast wall and an apron of the work surface, which will protect against splashes and is easy to clean. The color should be in harmony with the facade of the kitchen set. To highlight the dining area, you can make a wall of laminate in the color of dark wood.

Bedroom decoration

Laminate on the wall in the interior of the bedroom can be used as inserts above the head of the bed. If the bedroom is large, then you can veneer the entire wall with laminate and whiten it, hang colored accessories and framed photographs. Cosiness will be created by a laminate wall at the headboard in the color of the bed.

The photo shows an example of an interior with wall decoration and floor decoration in one color. It looks spectacular and creates a feeling of infinity.

The photo shows the wall decoration at the head of the bed, which fits the overall eco-style of the bedroom interior.

Laminate in the hallway

Wall laminate in the interior of the hallway should contrast with the color of the floor and it is better to sheathe only the lower part of the wall. It is recommended to mount the laminate on the wall in the corridor vertically, as this will not make it visually smaller.

In the photo, the corner of the hallway is paneled in natural wood color and combined with neutral shades of the interior.

Photo in the bathroom

Laminate on the walls in the interior of the bathroom can only be used if there is ventilation, which is important for the durability of the structure. Not suitable as an alternative to tiles in the shower area, but you can highlight one wall with wood trim.

Decoration of a balcony or loggia

In the interior of the balcony, laminate has become often used for sheathing. It protects the wall insulation from moisture, it can also be used to make shelves and line cabinets on the balcony. A great option if the balcony serves as a study.

The choice of class and method of attachment

When choosing a laminate, it is worth considering that:

 • the laminate will not be affected by a strong load;
 • the choice of lock system depends on the method of fastening;
 • an interior with a laminate on the wall should give aesthetic pleasure, which will help the range of colors and textures.

Mounting methods

 • Glue. This is a system without locks, installation is carried out only with the help of glue, which is applied to the side and back. Glue for laminate on the wall should be on silicone, or "liquid nails". The panels are glued one after another, and the emerging glue must be immediately removed with a wet sponge. Rarely used for framing.
 • clicky. To fasten two parts, they are tilted at an angle of 20 degrees to each other and the laminate is inserted into the grooves. The lock snaps into place easily and securely connects the panels. It can be glued to the crate with glue, this option is resistant to mechanical stress.
 • sheet piling. Fastening according to the principle of a tongue and groove lock, which does not need to be glued additionally. Mounting on the frame, the panel is strengthened in the recess with the help of staples-stamps.

Which class to choose?

For laying laminate on the wall, it is not necessary to use the highest durable class (from 33 to 34), a low-strength material from 21 to 31 class is sufficient.

In the photo, the white color makes the interior of the living room lighter, and the texture of the wood on the wall adds coziness.

Horizontal and vertical installation

Horizontal method

The joints converge into one line, which must be closed with skirting boards, and they are attached to the wall with dowels and nails. The plinth is placed no more than 1.5 meters. In order for the laying to be strong and the load to be distributed evenly, the laminate should be cut into strips before starting.

Horizontal placement of boards in the interior (as in the photo) will make the room wider, and vertical placement - higher.

vertical method

Laminate on the wall is vertically attached to a flat surface with glue, there are many laying options, you can combine leftovers from different batches and colors to create a unique interior design.

How to fix laminate on the wall? (video)

There are two common ways to mount on the wall: glue and crate.

glue method

It requires a flat surface to which the laminate will be attached, otherwise gaps will appear and the service life will be lower. Installing a laminate board on a wall using this method does not require special knowledge and you can do it yourself. You can glue any kind of panels, with or without locks.

When mounting with glue, in addition to liquid nails on silicone, special glue can be used, then the panel is pressed. For a better fortress, the lock can be glued. You may be worried about how to lay the laminate on the wall if it takes a lot of plaster to level them. In this case, you should choose the second method.

Metal or wood frame

This method does not require the creation of a flat wall surface using plaster or drywall, as a frame is created. The crate makes additional insulation and soundproofing of the room. Here the panel is attached to nails or clamps. This method is longer, but will help save on leveling the walls.

To create a wooden crate, 2-4 cm slats are needed, which are attached to the wall at a distance of 20-50 cm parallel to the future panels. The metal frame is made from drywall profiles, and some manufacturers also offer a finished frame.

Possibilities of facing laminated walls in living quarters. What to look for when choosing a material and how to properly install.

How to use laminate for finishing an apartment

An unusual solution for decorating walls can be laminate cladding. This material is suitable not only for the floor, but also for the vertical surfaces of the apartment. This is a practical and relatively inexpensive way to make a room original.

Features of finishing walls with laminate

Line one of the walls or a fragment of the wall. In some interiors, facing the lower part of the walls will be relevant. Laminate decoration is suitable for the interior in the style: loft, country, English style.

The arrangement of lamellas can be horizontal, vertical, diagonal. They can be of the same color or consist of different collections.

You can choose interesting combinations and arrangements of slats yourself, using images from magazines or websites dedicated to interior design.

Benefits of laminate

Main advantages:

 • it is easy to install;
 • has a smooth finish that is easy to wash and clean from dust;
 • there are collections with a moisture-resistant coating, they can be used for wall decoration in the kitchen;
 • a large selection of textures, colors and patterns;
 • affordable cost - the thinnest lamellas are used for walls;
 • you can hide the unevenness of the wall.

Disadvantages of using

Flaws:

 • additional costs - installation cannot be done independently without having the appropriate experience;
 • at low temperatures, the material will deform, so it cannot be used in country houses that are not heated in winter;
 • when installing lamellas on the crate, you need to decorate the thickness from the wall to the edge of the laminate.

Varieties of laminate that are suitable for indoor wall decoration

The material differs in the type of outer surface, it happens:

 • glossy;
 • matte;
 • with imitation tiles, can be glossy or matte;
 • with a decorative layer of natural wood;
 • textured surface.

Also, the laminate differs in strength classes:

 • class 33 is the most durable and is more suitable for floors in public areas with a large number of visitors;
 • class 32 and 31 are also durable and do not deform during prolonged contact with water;
 • class 23, 22, suitable for living spaces;
 • class 21 is only suitable for wall cladding: living room, bedroom, corridor.

The manufacturer usually indicates the material class on the packaging; it can also be clarified with the sales assistant.

Laminate is produced with a thickness of 6 to 12 mm, it differs in the type of connections:

 • tongue and groove lock - consists of a groove on one side and a special spike on the other side;
 • click lock - a simpler type of connection. Here, the spike resembles a hook in shape, it is inserted into the groove at an angle and then straightened, and a click occurs. This connection allows you to make the laminate collapsible.

Laminate wall decoration: fastening methods

The main types of mounting material on the wall:

 • on a crate of wooden slats;
 • on glue or liquid nails;
 • with the help of clamps.

The choice of type of fastening depends on the purpose of the room, the condition of the walls. It is better to use the frame in a spacious room, as it will take up a lot of space in a corridor or a small kitchen.

Before installing the material, it is necessary to prepare the surface. If the plaster crumbles or the wall has irregularities, the base should be leveled. Small defects can be corrected independently. It can be cracks, small depressions. If the wall defects are significant, then it is better to level it with drywall.

Is it possible to glue

For gluing to the wall, it is better to use a laminate of small thickness. In this case, the wall should be flat, without differences in height.

Which glue to choose

There are several types of glue:

 1. With weathering - after applying glue to the lamella, it must be pressed against the wall and then removed. The surface should be weathered for 5 to 10 minutes. Then the lamella is glued to the wall.
 2. Without winding. At first glance, this option saves time, but after gluing two rows, allow the glue to fix. Otherwise, the entire trim may shift under the weight of the upper rows.

Using a wooden frame will help save money and time on leveling the surface. The slats are attached to the wall perpendicular to the direction of the laminate, and a frame is made along the edges. They are fastened with a step equal to half the lamella. This will provide ease of installation.

Fastening with clamps: installation options

For convenient fastening of the laminate to the wooden frame, you can use clamps. These are metal clips that securely hold the panels and provide little movement of the lamellas. Kleimers come in a variety of sizes and are coated to prevent rust. Therefore, they can be used even in rooms with high humidity.

Kleimer attachment methods

They are attached to a wooden crate or sheathing with a sheet of fiberboard or plywood using:

 • special staples, for this a construction stapler is used. When pressed, the bracket should fully enter the surface, if this does not happen, you need to drive the bracket with a hammer;
 • nails;
 • self-tapping screws.

First, the kleimer is installed, and then its horizontalness is checked using a level.

The choice of cladding option, depending on the wall and the dimensions of the room

Vertical installation of slats is much easier to do. This option is suitable for low rooms and can visually increase the height of the room. Narrow panels are suitable for a small room. For a wide wall, it is better to choose lamellas of large width.

How to install laminate flooring on a drywall wall

On such a surface, the laminate is usually fixed with glue. Drywall must first be primed. For this option, use the thinnest laminate. Since with a large weight, the surface of the wall may collapse.

How to laminate uneven walls

You can use laminate on uneven walls, but for this you need to use a wooden crate.

The crate must be installed strictly horizontally and vertically, if gaps form between the timber and the wall, then special thin wood gaskets must be installed.

How to glue an adhesive laminate with your own hands: step by step instructions

Glue the laminate in the following sequence:

 • level the wall with plaster or with plywood;
 • stick lamellas from bottom to top in several rows, depending on the glue;
 • after installation and drying of the glue, the plinth and decorative strips are mounted.

Surface preparation

It is necessary to apply a primer to the wall to ensure that the surface adheres to the adhesive. After drying, proceed to the installation of lamellas. You can also install a crate of bars and screw a sheet of plywood.

Preparing a wooden crate

After buying the rails, they should not be immediately attached to the wall, they should lie down in the room. During this time, the wood may dry out a little, this will help to avoid deformation when attaching the laminate.

How to fix without crates

Without lathing, lamellas can be glued to a leveled wall. The second option: a sheet of plywood is attached to the crate, and lamellas are glued onto it.

Sticking

Glue is applied to the first panel in wavy lines and pressed against the wall, aligning along the intended line. Then they are tapped with a special wooden hammer.

How to mount horizontally: how to stick

A small gap should be provided between the floor covering and the wall laminate. To do this, draw a horizontal line on the wall surface at a distance of no more than 2 cm from the floor. After gluing the lamellas, the gap is closed with a plinth.

How to lay out vertically

For vertical installation, you must first draw a vertical line on the wall, lay out the lamellas along it from the bottom up. After installing the first vertical row, mount the next one, aligning each element with a level.

Facing: how to do

Begin facing from the floor, usually from the left corner. After installing the first row, proceed to the next. After installing two horizontal layers, the work must be left, as the glue must seize.

How to independently make and fix a tongue-and-groove laminate on the wall: installation technology

The tongue and groove laminate has a special locking connection. You don't need to use glue to install it.

List of tools

 • mallet;
 • glue;
 • level;
 • building corner;
 • hacksaw;
 • perforator.

How to make a frame under the coating

For the crate, slats with a width of 20 to 40 mm are used. Their placement must be marked on the wall with a pencil and a level. The step of the slats is approximately equal to half the width of the lamella. Along the perimeter, you need to make a frame of rails.

How to attach the crate: fasteners

The slats are fastened with self-tapping screws in increments of about 30 cm. The slats must be even and dried. The rail can be installed by drilling through it and hitting the wall. It can also be fixed using a steel corner with holes for self-tapping screws. First, the corner is attached to the wall, and then the rail on the side is screwed to the corner.

How to lay soundproofing sheathing

Soundproofing is installed between the bars of the crate. It should fit snugly against the bars, usually mineral wool is used.

How to lay laminate: how to install

It can be attached to surfaces in several ways:

 • gluing each lamella separately;
 • with the help of clamps;
 • small nails that are nailed to the bar, this option resembles the installation of lining.

First, the lamellas are covered with glue, then inserted into the lock and pressed to the surface. After that, gently tap with a mallet.

How to set interior corners

When forming the inner corner, you need to remember that the laminate swells with high humidity, so you need to retreat at least 1 cm from each of the walls. You can decorate the resulting space using a special corner.

How to make an edge: how to close

The outer corner can be decorated with a plastic corner, which can be purchased at a hardware store. It can be made of MDF in the color of the laminate.

How to lay corners

The corner should cover the joint seam and have a hidden fastening method. It consists of a plank and a decorative outer element. In the center of the seam, fasteners for the strap are made. Drill holes and install screws. Then the outer part is installed on top.

How to finish the surface

You can hide the sides with a decorative strip, edge tape. Sheet piling can be installed horizontally, vertically, at an angle. In the latter option, there will be a lot of waste, this must be taken into account when purchasing material.

The outer corner of the laminate is usually decorated with a corner. Also, some manufacturers produce a special profile with which you can make the corner more accurate.

Thicker slats are easier to install, but the thinnest slats are used for wall cladding.

For ease of installation, it is advisable to cut and lay out the lamellas on the floor. If the floor area does not allow, then you can lay out two or three rows on the floor, gradually transferring the details to the wall.

You can use laminate not only for the floor, but also for the walls. Here you can combine different shades and use thin lamellas of tongue and groove or click laminate.

Useful video

During the design of the house, I want to do something special, interesting. The main thing is not only beauty, but also the practicality of the material used.

The walls should be decorated in an original way, so that they are most often used for various types of wallpaper, paint or putty.

One of the interesting ways to finish the walls is with a laminate. This type of finish will provide a pleasant appearance for a long time, will be able to protect the walls from various influences. In order not to make a mistake in choosing a material, it is worth considering all its features.

Advantages and disadvantages of finishing walls with laminate

When working with laminate, the following positive characteristics were identified:

 1. The product is environmentally friendly. It is produced by both foreign and domestic companies. It can be safely used in the children's room, without fear of any harmful effects.
 2. Durability, and if you follow certain rules, you can withstand the ideal state of the laminate for several decades.
 3. Cheapness of the material. For many, the determining factor when choosing a material for decoration is cost. Laminate is an inexpensive element in comparison, so you can save money when working with it.
 4. Wide variety of color palette. The variety of textures provides scope for choosing the right option for decorating rooms.
 5. No need to hire workers to install laminate flooring. All work can be done independently, without the involvement of specialists. The main thing is to get acquainted with all the features of the work and strictly adhere to them. Even a person who is minimally engaged in repairs can do everything.

However, there are some disadvantages that you should be aware of before using the material. The main negative feature is a strong susceptibility to moisture. After careless spilling of liquid on the surface, the material may swell, crack. It is worth taking care of such a coating or finishing only in rooms where the laminate will be constantly dry. The second disadvantage is the high susceptibility to temperature changes. Especially high temperature spoils the appearance.

Based on the listed properties, we can conclude: you should not finish the bathroom, the kitchen in the area of the sink with panels.

Not the best solution would be to decorate the walls of a balcony or loggia, basement. Even the best laminate will not be able to withstand unsuitable operating conditions for a long time. In such places, the use of lining or MDF will be optimal.

Types of laminate

The material has several different ways of fastening. There are the following types:

 • . There are no locks for fixing the parts together. The connection takes place with the help of an adhesive composition. Everything is done simply: a special construction adhesive should be applied to the ends and the entire back half of the material and pressed to the surface. Liquid nails or a silicone compound are often used. After installing one panel, proceed to gluing the next one according to the same principle. If the adhesive composition protrudes through the joints, it is immediately removed so that it does not have time to harden. You can remove it with a cloth soaked in water with vinegar. The material has minimal contact with the surface on which it is laid, so that it rarely lies on the crate to settle it.

 • . Unlike the previous type, a special tongue and groove fastening is used here. You can not apply glue to the joints, so that they will turn out dry, neat. When installing this type of laminate, it is necessary to secure each panel with staples or small nails. This is done in the place where it enters the next plate, along the entire row. You can mount it on a pre-installed crate made of wood.

 • . There is a modern tongue-and-groove system in the form of a lock, which allows you to connect the panels to each other without leaving joints. The board must be deflected by 20 o from the previous one, and then snapped into the latches. You can fix it to the wall with glue to keep it tight. Plus - increased strength and the possibility of slight bending.

In most cases, the quality of a laminate depends on its cost. Regardless of the applied texture, it will cost the more, the more flexible it is and the greater the load it can withstand. It is not always worth saving, as the service life may depend on the money spent. The walls are not subjected to significant loads, but it is worth considering the possibility of friction on some products.

You can save a lot on repairs, while choosing a nice room design.

There are several installation options: you can fix it with glue or use a crate prepared in advance. If you use an adhesive composition, you need to carefully prepare the surface, since any irregularities will, albeit minimally, affect the appearance of protrusions on the finished wall. In addition, in some places it will not be possible to perfectly join the ends of the panels, so the corners may stick out. Pre-surface preparation can cost a fortune for some, so this option is not suitable for many.

If the surface is very curved, simple gluing will not work, although this option will be as economical as possible. If the surface is uneven, it is necessary to create a crate, which will become a frame for attaching the boards. If it is necessary to perform sound insulation or insulation, the crate will be the best option. Some manufacturers, aware of the popularity of laminate wall finishing, make special fixing elements that are attached to the surface, and the material is fixed on them.

The work is performed in the following sequence:

 • the amount of laminate required is calculated. Everything is done simply: the height is multiplied by the width to get the surface area, then all the values are added up, the required amount of material comes out. It is worth buying with a small margin so that you can fit the surface;
 • preparing the surface for fixing. If ordinary gluing will be carried out, a perfectly flat area is needed here, cleaned of grease stains and dirt.

The frame is made of wood or metal. Usually, to implement the second option, special frame beams purchased on the market are used. The rails are made 20-50 mm wide and fixed with self-tapping screws (the heads of which must be sunk into the surface of the material) to the wall.

The distance between them is approximately 30 cm. They must be installed perpendicular to the direction in which the laminate will be laid. You can take corners for use instead of a metal frame, which are used as ceilings for drywall sheets;

 • starting point is selected. If you plan to sheathe the entire room, you need to start working from the top down. When sheathing the lower part, work is done from the bottom point, you need to move up. The distance of one plate is counted from the point and then the first laminate board is attached;
 • you need to apply only the boards on which the adhesive is applied. You can use liquid nails or glue specially designed for gluing laminated panels. After that, the boards must be pressed to the surface and fixed for the required time. If there are locks in the panels, they can also be glued so that the fixing of the parts together is more reliable. If there is a crate, fastening is carried out using nails or staples specially designed for this purpose. It is necessary to nail with high quality so that subsequent panels do not cling when entering the grooves of the previous ones. You can cut the fastening points of the laminate so that nothing interferes with the fixation
 • in the corners it is necessary to install skirting boards, corners. They are fixed on the last panel to the edge of the wall and are installed together with it. After the installation is considered complete.

Do not use the material in rooms where temperature fluctuations or high humidity often occur.

It will quickly deteriorate and you will have to redo the repair first, using a different coating. Some laminate models have a relatively high weight. This should be taken into account when choosing the amount of adhesive applied for fixation. Be sure to carefully prepare the surface so that sagging and poor-quality fixation are not detected.

When installing on the crate, it is not necessary to fix the material rigidly, it is better to make it a little “free”, while avoiding the wobble of the plates after they are fixed. The building level will help to measure the horizontal so that the panels lie correctly. You can process the ends with laminate gel. This will increase the elasticity of the parts to be joined, avoid damage.

It is not difficult to understand the technology of wall paneling. There is no need to rush - attentiveness and accuracy are important components. The reward for the time spent will be the original design of the room, the unusual style of the renovated room.

Finishing the walls with laminate will undoubtedly add charm and originality to any room. This is a fairly simple process, and it is quite possible to do it yourself, without resorting to the help of specialists.

Advantages and disadvantages

Using laminate for wall decoration has its pros and cons.

The advantages include the following options:

 • excellent strength of the material (panels can serve for decades, while maintaining an aesthetic appearance);
 • environmental friendliness;
 • a light weight;
 • a huge selection of colors and textures;
 • price (inexpensive panels can be purchased for walls);
 • the possibility of finishing the wall with your own hands, without hiring craftsmen.

There are few disadvantages to finishing walls with laminate:

 • excessive requirements for the preparation of walls before coating the laminate. The walls must be perfectly even, or the installation of a crate is necessary;
 • low resistance to temperature and humidity changes.

How to choose?

Due to the variety of colors and textures, wall laminate for interior wall decoration can be used in any room.

When choosing a material, you need to decide what functions, in addition to decoration, the wall covering will perform. As a rule, this is the alignment of the wall and the creation of a stylish updated design.

To cover the walls, a laminate from 21 to 34 resistance classes is suitable. It is better to select the material in accordance with the functional purpose of a particular room.

Laminate panels should match the style and color scheme of the interior of the room. For small and narrow rooms, you should not choose a dark wall covering, it is better to focus on light shades. For example, a white coating will refresh the room and make it visually more spacious. Light wall laminate is recommended to be combined with light flooring.

Ways

After the color of the material is selected, they are determined with the method of fastening. The most common of them:

 • With glue. Panels can be glued with liquid nails or silicone adhesive to the wall surface. Glue must be of high quality to securely hold the panels on the wall. This is the easiest mounting option;
 • frame method. Installation of the laminate is carried out on a wooden crate. Wooden slats should be 4 * 4 cm in size. The gap between the guides should be no more than 6 cm. The slats should be perpendicular to the planks.

The frame method is the most reliable, but laborious. It does not require preliminary preparation of the wall. This type of fastening is also suitable for situations where electrical wiring, pipes or other communications need to be masked under the wall covering.

What to fasten?

Fastening can be carried out not only by the previously indicated methods. There is another fairly simple method - laying with the help of kleimers. These are special brackets for mounting laminated planks on walls. Kleimers come in two varieties:

 • With serrated edges. They are mounted directly on the board;
 • With a flat ledge. Needed to press the click lock.

With the frame method of fastening, nails, staples and metal clips are used. If the perimeter of the coverage area is small, then the first two options can be used. If the area is large, then it is more reliable to fix the panels with clips, since over time the dimensions of the laminate may change.

Installation

The following tools are useful for installation: electric jigsaw, tape measure, building level, spatula, wooden blocks, hammer.

Do-it-yourself wall decoration technology:

 • Calculate the required amount of laminate, it is desirable to purchase it with a margin;
 • It is impossible to carry out the installation process on curved, uneven walls, so they are pre-cleaned, plastered, dried. Or prepare a crate. Also, another possible option is to put the laminate on your own on a drywall wall. Drywall must be securely connected to the wall.

 • Determine the place from which the laying of the first laminated panel will begin. Typically, this is the top left corner.
 • They carry out the installation of the panels themselves. If the adhesive method is chosen, then liquid nails or silicone glue are applied to the back of the plank and fixed by pressing for a short period of time. If the frame method is chosen, then fixation is carried out using nails or clamps.
 • After installing the laminate, decorative skirting boards are installed. They close the distance between the wall, ceiling or floor.

Laminate panels are attached to the wall horizontally, vertically or diagonally. It is possible to choose one of these options, based on the design features and complexity of implementation.

The horizontal method is ideal for narrow spaces and is able to visually expand the space. Looks great with a combination of two colors. If you vertically sheathe the wall, then in this way you can increase the height of the room. This method is suitable for apartments or houses with low ceilings.

The diagonal version of the wall cladding will make the room stylish and unusual. But this method is the most difficult and requires more boards.

In the event that you decide to lay the laminate on a concrete wall painted with a water-based emulsion, then there is a risk that the laminated planks will not adhere well and disappear after a while. Therefore, it is recommended to pre-clean the old layer of paint, remove putty and plaster, and prime the surface.

How to cut?

In order for the laminated coating to blend harmoniously into the interior of the room, it is important, in addition to observing the laying technology, to know how and with what to cut the laminate. For example, using an electric jigsaw, you can simply cut the panels. The main thing is to choose the right file for it.

There are several rules for cutting laminated boards:

 • On the back side, a line is drawn with a pencil at the incision site;
 • Then they put the product on the table in such a way that the part that will be cut off is in weight;
 • Next, firmly fix the board and saw off in the right place.

Cutting the material can also be done with a circular saw, but in this case it is the disk for working on metal that is used. It is more difficult to work with this tool than with a jigsaw. When cutting, the laminated coating is placed face down.

Many owners have such a tool as a grinder in a pantry or utility room. The grinder is successfully used for cutting laminate. The only drawback when working with this tool is the appearance of a large amount of dust during cutting.

How far away from the wall?

Laminated products tend to increase in size upon contact with humidity and temperature changes, therefore, during installation, it is necessary to leave an indent from the corners of at least 1.5–2 cm. similar thickness. In the case of mounting on glue, the board is wrapped in a layer of a special film, and wedges are used on the sides. After the completion of the installation work, the indents are closed with skirting boards.

Which side to put?

It is recommended to fix the laminate, starting from the left side of the wall, which is opposite to the entrance, and move to the right from it. Thus, it is convenient to join the material. But if the installer is left-handed, then the installation starts from the other side of the room.

How to close a gap in the wall?

There are times when gaps form between the laminate and the wall when finishing.

There are several ways to remove a large gap:

 • Buy a wider plinth at a hardware store or make it yourself;
 • Disassemble the cover and move it;

 • Cut a thin strip from the same laminate and seal the gap;
 • Bend out the existing plinth.

But the last option must be used very carefully so as not to damage the baseboard.

corners

When a wall is finished with a laminate, where there is a doorway, then the platbands should be removed before installation. When laying the product, its edges should not come into contact with the corners of the walls, floor and ceiling, but there should be a gap. External corners can be closed with decorative corners.

How to make backlight?

Wall lighting is a fun way to create a unique interior design. Lighting devices for walls can serve as an independent source of lighting, and additional. You can do the installation of wall covering lighting with your own hands. It's pretty fast and not expensive for the budget.

For mounting the backlight you will need: laminate, LED lamps, screwdriver, building level, jigsaw, glue, fasteners, adhesive tape.

Backlight installation steps:

 • First of all, it is necessary to mark the location of the lamps on the wall. It is necessary to think over the layout so that only the light is visible, and not the wires.
 • Next, the cable is carried out according to the drawn up scheme, fixing it with holders. It is recommended to run the cable from the outlet in order to correctly calculate its length.

 • Now install LEDs, laminate. The planks are divided into parts and glued from the bottom up. The upper panels will press on the lower ones, so you need to wait for the glue to dry. Tape and other fasteners will help to fix them.
 • The next step is to connect the power. This completes the installation of the backlight.

How to lay the last row?

In order to lay out the last row of laminate correctly, it is necessary to mark the sawing point, saw it and insert it with a comb into the panel mounted below, and fix the upper edge with liquid nails or silicone to the frame.

How to close the butt?

In order to close the end when finishing the walls, you can use aluminum laminated corners. They act as protection against damage, and as a decorative element. Corners are made in a wide range of colors, so choosing the right shade is not difficult. Attach them with elastic glue.

How to attach the skirting board to the floor?

Plinth is considered one of the main details in the interior. Thanks to skirting boards, you can hide defects and gaps on the coating. Currently, the most common are plastic and wooden skirting boards.

Wooden models are environmentally friendly, but their service life is short. Plastic ones can last for many years, while maintaining an aesthetic appearance. PVC skirting boards are ideal for laminate flooring. They are easy to cut, they are wear-resistant and moisture resistant and are inexpensive.

You can fix them in several ways:

 • With clips. This option is suitable for any room. The only drawback of the clips is that in case of dismantling the plinth, you need to buy new fasteners, since the clips do not withstand repeated installations;
 • Fastening directly. The plinth is fixed with screws. The attachment points are masked with plugs matched to the color. This method of installing skirting boards is the most reliable.

Installing the skirting board is the final stage of finishing. The plinth must be selected according to the design of the room. It is important to try to minimize the number of joints. Gaps must be sealed to reduce the risk of dirt and dust entering them.

When working with skirting boards, you need to take into account the parameters of the grooves in the connecting parts in order to correctly determine the size of the strips. The fixing points must be chosen so that there is an absolute fit to the wall.

Interior design options

A wide selection of laminate products allows you to realize completely different design ideas for rooms.

For example, the use of laminate in the hallway as a finishing material for walls will improve sound insulation. This material is perfectly cleaned from traces of dirt, which is very important for the corridor. Sheathing the corridor with laminate has become popular due to the durability and wear resistance of the material.

In the corridor, you can highlight individual zones using different shades or create a contrast between the wall and the ceiling. Fully laminated walls, as a rule, are not sheathed.

If you decide to finish the walls with laminated panels inside the balcony and loggia, then you need to remember about humidity and temperature changes. Therefore, it is worth opting for a laminate with an increased stability class. They can completely sheathe all the walls, and can be combined with other finishing materials.

Another original solution is to use a laminate finish at the head of the bed in the bedroom. In the bedroom, you can use material of any class, since there are no strong temperature changes.

The material will look harmonious if you choose textiles for the bedroom of the same color. The design of one of the walls with a white laminate in combination with a light brown flooring looks beautiful. Installing lighting on the wall at the head of the bed will also add zest to the interior. Laminate, passing from the wall to the ceiling, will transform such an important place in an apartment or house as a bedroom.

In the living room in the apartment, the use of laminate for wall covering is also widely used. They can allocate a certain part of the room or, for example, only an area for a TV and a fireplace. The living room looks elegant, in which laminate and other coatings, such as stone, are combined. You can use gray shades of aged wood.

A wide range of laminated panels makes them suitable for use in the bathroom. Due to constant humidity and temperature fluctuations, it is recommended to give preference to a waterproof laminate. In this room, you can use absolutely any color palette. An interesting option is to highlight the shortest wall in the bathroom with a laminate.

Finishing the attic with laminate is the best solution. Most often this is an unheated room, so it is important to lay thermal insulation when installing walls. If you install the backlight in the panel, then, in addition to an interesting decor, this will be additional lighting for the attic room.

If you have chosen to finish the walls with laminate in the kitchen, then you should opt for panels above class 23. There are a huge number of design options in the kitchen. You can purchase a coating under a stone or a tree. Usually in the kitchen, a kitchen apron or one of the walls is sheathed. You can also decorate the finished coating with accessories, for example, a clock or a picture.

The search for original solutions leads to the use of finishing materials for other purposes. A striking example of this approach is the finishing of the wall surface with a laminate. But this does not mean that it can be done in any way. Be sure to take into account all the subtleties and nuances, only then the result will be positive.

Coating features

Finishing walls with laminate is unacceptable for kitchens, because under the influence of excessive moisture and temperature fluctuations, it will swell and warp. There is no way to avoid such influences; there is no protection against them. The same reasons do not allow us to recommend this coating for cellars, cellars, closets. But in the hallways, where deviations from normal room conditions are rare and insignificant, such a finish is quite acceptable.

Sheathing a balcony with laminate is not a good idea. No matter how hard you try to equip the room, changing conditions from season to season will certainly affect the coverage.

The strip of a clicked product can be adjusted precisely only with the help of a tool, no effort is enough to do it manually. Most often, a boss is applied and it is already beaten with a hammer, so blows evenly distributed in strength are obtained.

Laying a laminate on a wall can also be done using a rule (hook), which is mistakenly called a clamp by some craftsmen. The indentation along the outer border is created by expansion wedges, and it is advisable to have a double set of such tools in case they fail. It is most reliable to make a wall covering with a laminate using a crate, this will help to achieve high strength, enhance sound insulation and thermal insulation. But keep in mind that the design will inevitably be limited. The glue method only helps to form an original design.

Laminate flooring is very durable (it lasts so long that you won't wait for it to wear out and rather just want a change of scenery). At the same time, the coating is completely safe and can be disposed of in the simplest way. Decorating walls with laminate is much more economical than using wood, and even lining or MDF, but is not inferior to them in external elegance. There are a lot of textures and colors mastered by technologists, and they will fit into any interior. An important factor is easy care. Only occasionally will you need to rub the wall with polish.

What to do if the walls are uneven?

First of all, you need to carefully check whether they are really uneven. Take a rail, the size of which is equal to the height of the wall, excluding the plinth. Important: before the start of the test measurement, the plaster layer, platbands should be removed so that they do not distort the result. The rail is moved vertically, the slightest bulges and dips are marked with a pencil. The protruding parts must be scraped off or knocked down with a chisel.

The pits are filled with putty and rubbed. Such simple methods will strengthen even the most uneven and chaotic wall. Assessing how smooth the control rail itself is is also not difficult. Attach it to the wall and circle it with a pencil, turn it 180 degrees and attach the ends of the rail to the end points of the line. With the complete coincidence of both lines, you can safely use this tool in your work. But the slightest deflection or bend indicates that you need a different rail (which, of course, is checked in the same way).

How and what to fix?

The adhesive laminate must be fixed on flat surfaces. To hold, use liquid nails or building silicone. The wrong side of the panel is covered with glue in the form of a zigzag, after laying the strip with the same glue, the end is smeared with the same glue, proceed to the next chain. If the adhesive liquid comes out at the boundaries of blocks and lines, it is immediately removed with a soft cloth made of natural fabric soaked in culinary acetic acid.

Laminate, which is put on glue, cannot be fixed on the crate, it has too little contact with the support.

The tongue-and-groove type of laminate is equipped with a lock of the same name. This coating can be laid out without lubrication of sheet pile adhesives. Therefore, the boundaries of individual boards will not be stained with adhesive. If you do not want to glue at all, you can nail the product to the surface in the manner of a conventional lining. It is attached to a wood lattice with furniture cloves or glues (the second option is also suitable for an iron base).

For wall laying, you can also use click laminate - this is an improved version of sheet pile. The cut of the ridge is pear-shaped, as is the structure of the channels. Connecting structures push the ridge lobe of the lock into the niche, having previously tilted the block. Then the product is twisted to the base and at the same time slightly pressed, due to which the lock closes. Click type laminate is good for high hardness.

Click-on adhesives are not compatible. If you use them, you won't be able to lock the lock. But it is quite possible to glue the block on a wooden crate on your own.

Ways

You can attach the laminate to the walls either with glue and liquid nails (but you will need to thoroughly level the base and prime it), or with the help of a slatted crate (but it will take up some space, so it is not recommended in small rooms). If you decide to nail the coating to the entire wall or to its upper part, work begins from the ceiling to the floor; the decoration of the lower half of the walls is carried out from the floor up. In order for the planks to be fixed thoroughly, check the correctness of their installation using the building level. When there are locks in the panels, they should be glued like this: first glue the surface with glue, then connect it to the lock, and only then attach it to the wall.

If you think that glue alone is not enough, additional reinforcement of the structure with nails or staples is acceptable. The tongue and groove board is attached to the crate with clamps at the top and bottom.

Additional elements

The choice of items to strengthen and hold the structure is extremely important. The most ordinary seemingly kleimers are available in a wide range, and by purchasing the wrong product, you will devalue all your work. The thicker the panel to be held, the larger the tongue diameter should be.. Compared to other types of mechanical fasteners, clamps are valuable because of the low risk of panel splitting. They are great even in rooms with significant humidity. A bracket with a serrated ledge is hammered into the board and held with self-tapping screws, a bracket with a flat ledge will help to press the protruding part of the click lock against the wall or crate.

When choosing liquid nails, be sure to specify the scope of their application. They are both universal and designed for interior work. Very dense laminate is not attached to the walls, because it makes no sense to use liquid nails to hold heavy objects. Acrylic composition cannot be used at low temperatures.

Closing the end of the laminate on the wall is not so easy, but this task is solvable. According to experts, profiles in the form of the letter P, which are made from a variety of materials, will help - there are aluminum, plastic, and even wood. Alternatively, you can purchase a flexible rubber nut. You can attach all these blocks with the same liquid nails or glue-sealant. Even sometimes they offer edge tapes, but any method should not violate the color harmony of the canvas.

A separate topic is the guides for wall mounting the laminate; the step between them should not be more than 0.6 meters.

How to lay?

Laminate swells as it becomes wetter. And therefore, no matter what installation method you choose, be sure to make a gap of 1.5-2 centimeters from the corner for the entire perimeter. Wedges on the walls can help with this, but there is a much better solution. From below, completely flat boards or slats of the required thickness are placed, which are wrapped in a thin plastic film. And on the sides you can already safely use the wedges, where they will not be squeezed out by the weight of the skin.

The laying of the canvases should begin from the far left corners, it is carried out in the course of the clock. Left-handers will be more comfortable working on the right against the clock. Installing a laminate flooring is allowed both vertically (from left to right) and horizontally, with the second method being preferable. Integral strips, contrary to apparent evidence, are by no means simpler and cheaper. Joints running along one line must be covered with skirting boards attached to mounting nails.

The technology involves drilling mounting holes directly through panel joints. And even in the case when the wall is lined with inseparable stripes along its length, you will have to put skirting boards every 170 centimeters or even more often. Non-breaking panels support each other only in one direction, and if there is no additional reinforcement, the lining can be folded.

No matter how well you try to mount the coating, no matter what high-quality nails, glues and glue you use, these retaining elements may cease to fulfill their function. Excessive approach will create increased mechanical stress.

It is best to lay the laminate using the comb method: strictly in the middle, cut as many strips as would fit in half of the horizontal rows. When ten lines can be laid in height, five strips are required to cut. Installation is variable: one piece, then cut, again a whole block. Such a solution will make the load on the fasteners as uniform as possible.

In some cases, it will be more interesting to lay out the laminate in a diagonal way, then it is taken in two different colors. But if you do not have solid experience in working with such a coating or special training, it is not recommended to take on diagonal styling. It is much easier to lay the coating vertically on the glue: you will, of course, have to clean and level the wall, but you will not pay for the elements of the crate. You can limit yourself to panels of only two types (long and complementary).

To install a laminate with your own hands, be sure to buy an electric jigsaw, it will help you cut the panels as accurately as possible, and in the future it will come in handy for other work. You will definitely also need consumable files, a tamping hammer, short (up to 40 cm) ruler and square, tape measure, restrictive wedges, tamping bar, angle cutter, saw, drill and puncher. To finish with a laminate a wall that was previously wallpapered or painted, the coating is removed with a spatula or a perforator with a nozzle. The final removal of irregularities is achieved with sandpaper.

Having decided to create a backlit wall, immediately lay all the cables, draw up a diagram with their placement and output (connection) points, so as not to get confused in the future.

Important nuances

Laminate flooring is not only beautiful and aesthetic, it allows you to close up gaps on balconies and loggias. With proper selection, the coating will last you at least one and a half decades.

Always take into account the likely mechanical stress and the risk of abrasion. If you have to clean the walls often or if there are cats in the house, too thin drywall coatings will not be acceptable.

Fitting and trimming will inevitably increase the consumption of material, therefore the resulting total figures for the need for it can be safely increased by 10%, then the necessary reserve will be created. As already mentioned, the indentation along the perimeter should be 1.5-2 cm, it is set on the sides with expansion wedges, and from below with a special board or plank. Always use the boss for padding; if you hit with a hammer without it, directly, you can create crooked cracks. Using the rule (hook), you can attach the last row in the corners, for this they knock with a hammer or hand on the surface of the “flag”.

When creating a crate, it is recommended to use slats of 3 centimeters, the distance between the screws should not exceed 40 millimeters. The slats themselves should go at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the panels, so first outline what and how exactly will be installed.

The exact distance separating the edge of the laminate from the border of the wall is determined individually, taking into account a number of nuances. If you cannot find this distance, you should seek help from professionals.

It is enough when using the coating to never deviate from these rules in order to avoid many serious problems.

Design Options

Having laid out the lower strip 0.6-0.8 meters long from additional panels, then the wall of the corridor can be sheathed with main panels up to the ceiling. The horizontally facing connection closes on the plinth. Vertically directed joints at a certain interval are fastened with parts of the same product, and it is still launched over the top covered with laminate. This is how the romance of the Middle Ages is obtained, which is appropriate both in the bedroom and in the living room. Fluorescent lamps can replace torches.
