How to make a warm balcony. Warm balcony: technology and methods of insulation. Warm glazing technology

Owners of apartments with a loggia get an additional opportunity to make their home comfortable and cozy. A comfortable warm loggia can be used for various purposes by all family members. It can become a real living room.

Whatever you decide to place on the loggia - an office, a winter garden, dining area or dressing room, this can be a great opportunity to apply your design talent. All stages of improvement can be easily done with your own hands.

Preparation for landscaping

The transformation of an ordinary loggia into a functional space of an apartment consists of several stages. First of all, you need to take out everything unnecessary, free the floor and walls, remove the old coating (if any) and check the condition of all surfaces.

In older houses, it is very important that the subfloor is strong. When insulating, glazing and finishing the loggia, the load on it will increase significantly, so it may be necessary to strengthen the structure. Walls and ceiling must be smooth, dry without cracks. Damaged areas can be repaired with your own hands using cement mortar.

The parapet and walls of the loggia usually have a small thickness. For good thermal insulation, you need to make additional masonry of brick or aerated concrete. After that, you should install reliable windows that can protect the room from the penetration of cold, dust and noise. Metal-plastic constructions perfectly cope with this task.

You need to choose them, taking into account the peculiarities of the local climate. Window plastic profile may have a different number of chambers and additional insulation. It is resistant to external influences, durable and does not require special care. Double-glazed windows with two chambers retain heat better.

Loggia insulation

In order for the loggia to become one of the living quarters of the apartment, it is necessary to create appropriate temperature conditions. To do this, it is necessary to minimize heat loss through surfaces bordering the street, and ensure air heating to a comfortable level.

Thermal insulation of surfaces

To insulate concrete base gender, perform the following sequence of actions:

  • After the preparation, which was described above, the floor surface and the lower part of the walls are treated with liquid waterproofing. This can be done by hand using a brush or roller.
  • Slabs of insulating material are laid close to the concrete base. Some brands of extruded polystyrene foam have a special groove that provides a tight fit.
  • All cracks are filled with mounting foam.
  • The surface of the insulation is covered with a plastic film.
  • Perform a screed, on top of which the finishing will be done. If you plan to make a wooden floor, the logs can be laid directly on the insulation boards.

Advice! If you have chosen an electric floor heating system as a heat source, it can be placed under the screed over a layer of insulation and foil material. Infrared film can be laid under laminate or even carpet. Installation of a warm floor can be done by yourself, following the instructions on the package.

The surfaces of the ceiling, walls and parapet are insulated as follows:

  1. Extruded polystyrene foam boards are glued to surfaces with polyurethane adhesive. Additionally, dish-shaped dowels can be used.
  2. They cover the surfaces with foiled polyethylene foam (for example, penofol), connecting the joints with construction tape.
  3. Produce finishing, depending on the selected material. It can be moisture-resistant drywall, decorative plaster, wallpaper, lining or other material.

You can make the loggia cozy and comfortable with your own hands, providing high-quality thermal insulation and heating. Using modern materials, which are available in all hardware stores, this can be done quickly and at no significant cost.

Warm balcony (loggia), that's cool, but how do you get it? Let's figure it out. In this topic, we will discuss not about the insulation of the balcony (loggia) itself, but about what can serve as a source of heat on an already insulated balcony (loggia).

Let me start with the worst! Once again, I came across recommendations on the net to heat the balcony (loggia) at the expense of central heating batteries, by transferring them from the adjacent (combined) room.

True, some immediately unsubscribe that it is impossible to do this. Already good and thanks for that. It is impossible to give such recommendations for heating, and even more so.

REMOVE THE BATTERIES OF THE CENTRAL HEATING TO THE BALCONY OR LOGGIA!!!

For those who are in the tank, read the housing code, namely:

  • Article 25
  • Article 26
The withdrawal of central heating batteries is strictly prohibited!!!

You can also refer to the following documents:

  • SNiP 2.04.05.1991 "Heating, ventilation and air conditioning"
  • SNiP 31-01-2003 "Residential multi-apartment buildings"
Making a warm balcony and at the same time lengthening the supply pipes and transferring heating radiators to glazed loggias and balconies is prohibited (Resolution No. 73-PP of 08.02.2005)

Well, if you cannot agree on these issues, then you will never see permission for redevelopment!!!

STUNNING SHIT!!!

A warm balcony (loggia) with a similar redevelopment is an unacceptable option for those who want to live in peace. Yes, and such transferred pipes look simply “wretched” !!! The beauty is incredible.

Hope you don't do that. And by the way, "power" the warm water floor from the central heating system for the same reasons IT IS FORBIDDEN!!! Based on this, we will not consider these heating methods for our warm balcony (loggia).

By the way, such options sometimes appear from the absence "clear" or balconies so to speak. Some vaguely imagine what and how they do ... .

Warm balcony (loggia). What are the sources of heat for heating

So, available heat sources:

  • Electric convectors
  • (electric version is suitable for balconies (loggias)
  • Oil heaters
  • Infrared heaters
  • Film infrared heat-insulated floor
  • Carbon mats
  • Self-adjusting film
  • Electrical cable
  • Self-regulating cable
  • Heat operated air conditioner
  • Breathe more often (joke)

Well, various variations of all these methods. As you can see, there are plenty to choose from. The choice is more than diverse, you will not be allowed to freeze. Here you can already think about growing flowers.

Cool window sill lighting. I'm planning on getting one for myself too.

All these methods are electrical, no other has yet been invented. Therefore, decide for yourself what is more suitable for you personally so that you have a warm balcony (loggia). To whom energy savings, to whom appearance, and to someone both.

  • I described my attitude to the “masterpieces” in the title of which the word film appears in the article: ““.

Well, if not for my laminate, by the way, there is a funny article on the site "Laminate flooring or calculation incidents" read it, you would probably choose tiles as a floor covering, because. it has a high thermal conductivity, and in combination with a layer cement screed and tile adhesive accumulates heat well. Well, I would pick up some kind of cable with a thermostat for this matter. Nothing hangs on the walls, nothing interferes with the floor and no wires. This is purely my opinion.

Be sure to consider for yourself a warm balcony or loggia made according to this principle. I think this is a very successful combination. A warm balcony will definitely be here. And do not forget that all this is good only on a properly glazed and carefully. Pro .

  • And the article “The parapet of the balcony, an important part of the glazing” should also be useful. I highly recommend finding and reading it. There will be a lot to think about for a lot of people.

For example, in my apartment,. This loggia, which is 3.60 long and 1 meter wide, in my opinion does not need a powerful heat source due to a very large and extremely warm battery in the room (I also wrote about this). The temperature at the border of the loggia and the room is kept at around 23 degrees, even in severe frosts. In the room itself, somewhere around 25 degrees, and on the loggia 20-21 degrees on average, it depends heavily on the sun, sometimes it reaches 28. It suits me quite well (we are talking about winter now).

The usual balcony has long ceased to play the role of a terrace for storing vegetables, household items and drying clothes, now it is a functional area that can be successfully used even for the brightest working space. And for this, just a little is needed - to make the appropriate repairs and install heating on the balcony.

Photo 2. Study on the balcony

What should be foreseen?

Before proceeding with the installation of heating a balcony or loggia, it is necessary to insulate the room itself. Insulation includes glazing and cladding with insulating material on all internal and, if possible, external walls. Glazing with two-chamber windows or plastic frames will reliably keep the heat on the balcony, well-mounted thermal insulation made of foam or mineral wool will provide comfortable humidity, air temperature, and well-thought-out ventilation will relieve dampness and condensate.

Photo 3. Balcony insulation as the first stage

The most time-consuming stage is the work on the insulation of the walls, in particular the floor. But before you make the floor insulation, you must consider which heating option is preferable for your balcony.

Heating options on the balcony

Installing an additional battery. The easiest and most unacceptable way of heating for apartment buildings. By wiring the heating system to an additional area, we reduce the heat in the heating system as a whole, which will certainly affect the condition of the neighbors' batteries. They get a little colder. To avoid unnecessary conflicts, it is worth abandoning this method of heating the balcony. Another sad side of such a thing is the regulation of the law. The removal of the radiator outside the apartment, including the loggia, is prohibited by our legislation.

Photo 4. Installing an additional battery on the balcony

Heater. A convenient and easy way to create a comfortable warm environment on the loggia using a ready-made oil heater or convector. In order to carry out such heating, it is enough to buy electrical appliance and install an additional powerful outlet. This method is good if constant heating is not required.

Photo 5. Heater and convector on the balcony

There are several drawbacks to such heating. All electric heaters dry the air, which is especially uncomfortable when staying indoors for a long time and for people who have problems with the nasopharynx and lungs. The second significant reason is high costs energy consumption, as well as fire hazard, the availability of an electrical appliance for small children and the constant feeling that the room is full of dust. It is advisable to install purchased heaters if a balcony or other room needs temporary heat replenishment.

Underfloor heating system. Underfloor heating is considered one of the most economical and affordable ways of heating. Heating is installed in the floor, thus it not only successfully fulfills its function of heating the room, but also does not take up much space, it is safe, economical and convenient in every respect.

The principle of operation is that heat from below in its own physical properties with ease direct upwards, thereby evenly heating the entire area. A pleasant, comfortable temperature is set on the balcony, and the air does not dry out and does not overheat. In the loggia room, you can carry out a warm floor of two types: electric and water.

Photo 6. Underfloor heating system

Water heated floor

A water heater can be made from flexible plastic pipes. They are laid with a snake around the entire perimeter of the balcony. In order for the floor to warm up evenly, the pipe bends must be at the same level and close to each other, throughout the floor. Pipes are connected to a common hot water supply system, before final laying they must be checked under pressure for uniform water supply.

Photo 7. Water heated floor on the balcony

Before underfloor heating, it is necessary to get rid of old coatings, clean the concrete from roughness and irregularities as much as possible, and make the first layer as even as possible. So that heat is not lost and does not go into the cold concrete wall, heat-insulating material is laid on top of the concrete with the first layer. The prepared pipe is evenly distributed on the insulation, a concrete screed is placed on it. Shut down decorative coating.

Pipes must be selected carefully enough (this is not a reason to save), because the heating on the loggia is under reliable protection upper layers the floor should last long enough and preferably uninterrupted. This type of heating is not so easy to do, the complexity of installation forces many to turn to another method - electrical installation.

Electric floor heating

Photo 8. Electric floor heating on the balcony

The main role in the form of a heating device is played by an electric cable. Before you do electric heating indoors, it is necessary to prepare the base of the floor on the loggia, remove all the old coating, clean the concrete to a smooth state, smooth out all the irregularities. On the prepared base it is necessary to make a cement-sand screed. Its height must exceed 3 cm.

The next layer is a layer of insulation. Here it is necessary to take into account the possibility of the formation of condensate, that is, water. The temperature difference between the walls of the floor, the external and internal environment leads to an uneven distribution of heat, the formation of cold bridges, as a result of condensation and dampness. To avoid this, lay a heater with a vapor barrier. It is not recommended to use mineral wool here. Refractory insulation, for example, foam, is laid on a prepared concrete floor. A vapor barrier in the form of polyethylene is laid on top of the insulation, fixed with construction tape. Actually, the cable layer itself, which is fixed with an additional tie. After that, the entire system should dry thoroughly for several weeks, and only then can you proceed to laying the final coating.

The final stage is laying the decorative surface. It is not recommended to make a wooden coating, it significantly reduces the effectiveness of any thermal floor. It is acceptable to use tiled or ceramic tiles with good thermal conductivity.

Warm balcony in a city apartment: 14 topical issues

A warm balcony allows you to partly solve the problem of lack of space in a cramped apartment. It can become a cozy study, a smoking room, a clothes dryer, a meeting place for friends over a glass .... ahem, tea and even a small playroom for the kids. In my article I will try to answer a number of frequently asked questions about the insulation and heating of the balcony.

A little effort - and the balcony will turn into a full-fledged living area.

So, how to make a balcony residential and warm?

fencing

  1. What fences are optimal for creating a warm balcony?
  • Reinforced concrete panel;
  • brick fence;
  • Fencing made of foam blocks or aerated concrete.

In a temperate climate, foam blocks or aerated concrete with a density of D600 should be preferred. The porous structure of the material will allow you to do without additional insulation. If winter temperatures in your area fall below -15 - -20C, you still have to insulate the fence.

  1. Is the warm glazing of balconies installed on a metal fence?

Yes. For this, it is going to wooden frame to which the frames are attached and outer skin-, professional sheet, etc. The cross section of the frame is determined by the requirements for insulation; a beam of 100x50 mm is usually used, which allows you to lay a 10-centimeter-thick slab insulation. The beam is attracted to the floor by anchors, and to the railing of the fence - by bolts with wide caps through pre-drilled holes.

Frame elements must be treated with an antiseptic, which will protect the tree from decay and increase its fire resistance. Between the lower beam and the concrete slab, waterproofing is needed: it will prevent the absorption of moisture into the tree in wet and rainy weather. This role can be played by a couple of layers of roofing material or bituminous mastic.

Another option is the complete dismantling of the fence and the installation of panoramic windows. There are, however, a couple of problems here:

  • Transparent glass from top to bottom means that visiting the negligee balcony is cancelled. In it you will be in full view of all passers-by and residents of neighboring houses;
  • On sunny summer days, a balcony with panoramic windows will turn into a greenhouse. I state this on the basis of my own experience in operating an attic with a total glazing area of 26 square meters. The 12,000 BTU air conditioner copes with the cooling of the attic with noticeable difficulty.

Both problems are solved by installing an impost in the metal-plastic frame and replacing the lower part of the double-glazed window with an insert made of expanded polystyrene laminated with plastic.

  1. What should be the height of the fence?

The answer is easy to find in the current regulations. In the general case, it is equal to 100 centimeters with a building height of up to 10 floors and 110 centimeters in houses with a higher number of storeys. If the balcony will be visited by children, the height of the fence should be 120 cm.

Warming and finishing

fencing

  1. What and how to insulate the fence?

With his inside(in the case of a metal fence - right around it) a wooden frame is assembled, which is filled with glued mineral wool slabs. It is better not to use polystyrene: when heated, it releases harmful styrene, and heating in the summer heat will be inevitable.

  1. Does the insulation need some kind of protection from moisture and wind??

Necessarily. From the inside, the mineral wool is protected by a vapor barrier film. A windproof membrane from the outside is needed only in the case of a metal fence sewn up with a wind-permeable material (siding or corrugated board).

If thin penofol (foil insulation based on foamed polyethylene) is used instead of a vapor barrier film, heat loss through the fence due to infrared radiation will be noticeably reduced. The foam foil layer should be directed towards the medium with more high temperature(in our case - towards the balcony).

  1. How to finish the fence from the inside?

I highly recommend using…laminate flooring. It is much more durable and resistant to moisture compared to wall panels from MDF. It is better not to fasten laminate boards with self-tapping screws into a spike, but to glue them to the frame with liquid nails or silicone sealant.

For cutting laminate, it is very convenient to use a grinder with a diamond wheel. The cut is perfectly even and with minimal deviations from the markup. Do not try to use an abrasive instead of a diamond wheel: the edges of the cut will burn.

Ceiling

  1. How a balcony or loggia is insulated from above ?

In this case, it is better to use extruded polystyrene foam 30 - 40 mm thick, laid in a wooden crate from a bar of appropriate thickness. Expanded polystyrene, unlike cheaper polystyrene, tolerates heat without releasing styrene. It surpasses mineral wool in the quality of insulation with a small thickness.

It is desirable to fix the sheets on the surface of the ceiling. This is easy to do by spotting them with liquid nails, acrylic putty or silicone sealant. In this case, vapor barrier is not required, but it is advisable to fill the wide gaps between the polystyrene foam and the frame with mounting foam.

It would be a good idea to use penofol here too, placing it under the crate bars before attaching them to the ceiling.

  1. How to hem a balcony ceiling?

PVC wall panels. Cheap (about 200 rubles for square meter) and angrily. The only downside plastic panels- their low strength - is leveled by the location on the ceiling, where no one will touch them.

Panels can be fastened with a furniture stapler or self-tapping screws into a spike, or with kleimers.

Floor

  1. How is the thermal insulation of the balcony from below, from the side of the floor?

I recommend doing it like this:

  • The floor is covered with our old acquaintances - penofol. It will reduce heat loss due to radiation and perform the function of waterproofing between wood and concrete. There are small overlaps on the walls along the edges;
  • Through it, longitudinal (laid along the length of the balcony) logs 30-40 mm thick are attached to the floor. The extreme logs should adjoin the wall and the fence;
  • Extruded polystyrene foam is placed in the space between the lags;

Two-layer floor insulation: foam is laid on the bottom, polystyrene foam is on top.

The instruction for choosing this particular insulation is due to the fact that it remains effective with a small thickness. Thick floor and ceiling insulation will make the room uncomfortably low.

  • A rough flooring is laid along the logs - a tongue-and-groove board, OSB or plywood with a thickness of 15 mm or more.
  1. What to lay on the floor as a finishing coating?

In my opinion - linoleum. If the balcony is not heated for some time, condensation or frost will inevitably form on the windows. As it melts, the water will flow down. For laminate, parquet or wooden flooring moisture will create serious problems in the form of swollen seams and deformation; with linoleum it is enough to wipe puddles.

Glazing

  1. What should be the warm glazing of the loggia - with wooden frames, with aluminum or metal-plastic ?

Aluminum is a metal with high thermal conductivity. The frame will become a cold bridge between the street and the balcony. It will contribute to heat loss and collect condensate.

We brush aside.

Modern frames made of pressed wood are not much inferior to metal-plastic ones in terms of strength, geometry stability and resistance to moisture. However, with the same functionality, they are noticeably more expensive. There is nothing stopping you from ordering. metal-plastic windows under a tree, with a very reliable imitation of its texture.

The conclusions, I think, are obvious.

Our choice is plastic windows.

  1. What should be the double-glazed window?

It all depends on the climate zone. Perhaps I will simply refer the reader to someone else's practical experience in operating windows:

  • In the Khabarovsk Territory, where I lived a few years ago ( average temperature January around -25 C, at peak frosts reach -45 degrees) the most popular option is a two-chamber (triple) double-glazed window made of ordinary glass 4 mm thick;

  • In Sevastopol (the average January temperature is +3, frosts of -15 are extremely rare and last no more than a week a year), single-chamber (double) double-glazed windows with energy-saving glasses are massively installed. The IR-reflecting coating on one of the panes of the double-glazed unit helps to reduce heat loss in winter and heating of the room in summer.

When buying glazing, you can save up to a third of its cost by refusing to install it. However, installing windows with your own hands will completely void your warranty.

  1. Do you need separate balcony ventilation? Or is it enough to ventilate it by opening the windows as needed ?

In my opinion, it would be a good idea to install an adjustable intake valve in one of the frames. It allows you to more precisely regulate the inflow compared to the window microventilation system (adjusting the position of the sash in the transom mode). The influx of fresh air will save you, among other things, from condensation on the windows.

If the balcony will be supplied with a constant source of heat, the supply valve must be located directly above it. Thermal curtain eliminates cold drafts.

Heating

  1. How and how to heat a balcony?

First and foremost: all options for a warm balcony with a water-heated floor are swept aside immediately and for good. Believe my experience: defrosting a warm floor on a balcony is easier than a lung, and restoring it is still hemorrhoids.

In addition: a water-heated floor is laid in an insulated screed. It will raise the floor at least 10 - 12 cm and create a serious load on the floor slab.

The most obvious solution is to put a radiator on the balcony, connected to the central heating system in parallel with the battery in the room. Even 20 years ago, housing organizations looked at such changes in the configuration of the heating system through their fingers, but now there is a very real chance of receiving an administrative penalty for unauthorized connection and an order to restore the original wiring configuration at their own expense.

What's in the dry matter?

  • All kinds of oil and electric convectors. They can be floor standing or permanently mounted on the wall. The obvious drawback of the solution is high operating costs: with an average power consumption of 1 kW, heating a balcony will cost about 2,500 rubles per month at current rates;

  • Reduce costs will allow electric underfloor heating. The easiest way to install film heaters: they do not require pouring the screed and can be laid under any finish coating (including linoleum). Savings come from more rational distribution temperatures: the air is most heated not under the ceiling, but where heat is needed - right above the floor;

In the photo - electric film a heating element. It can be laid under linoleum, laminate or tile.

  • For regions with warm winters, installing an air conditioner will be a profitable solution. It will solve both the problem of cooling the balcony and the room adjacent to it in the hot summer, and heating them in the winter. Modern inverter split systems are able to give up to 5 kW of heat per kilowatt of consumed electric power and work for heating at outdoor temperatures down to -25C;
  • Finally, in gasified houses, the most profitable installation gas convector. The cost of a device with a power of 2 kW is about 6 thousand rubles. Combustion products are discharged through a coaxial (double) pipe through the balcony railing directly to the street; fresh air is also taken from there for the operation of the burner.

Conclusion

I hope that I was able to answer all the questions of the dear reader. To learn more about how a warm balcony can be equipped, the video in this article will help you. I look forward to your comments and additions. Good luck, comrades!

An insulated balcony can almost instantly turn into a comfortable room that is in demand by all family members - it can be designed as a comfortable office, a game room, or a relaxation area. Flower lovers can turn a warm loggia into a mini-garden or even a kitchen garden, where you can grow a decent crop in winter. Due to the balcony or loggia, you can significantly increase the area of \u200b\u200bthe room. However, before transforming a balcony into a comfortable and functional resting place, it should be insulated and the interior should be ennobled.

Exist various ways balcony insulation. On the balcony open type arrange a parapet and side walls, using ceramic bricks or foam blocks for this, then perform glazing. This will help to slightly increase the temperature on the balcony, as well as protect it from dust and noise from the street. To make the balcony truly warm and cozy will help the installation of thermal insulation and "warm floor" systems.

In order to equip a warm balcony, it is necessary to perform a certain set of works, each stage of which is of particular importance, including:

  • laying thermal insulation;
  • installation of the "warm floor" system;
  • purchase of heaters.

Before insulating a balcony, you should decide on the choice of materials and tools. Today, the market offers a wide selection of heaters, limited only by personal preferences and room volumes. The most popular options include:

  • mineral wool;
  • Styrofoam;
  • penoplex (extruded polystyrene foam).

Do-it-yourself insulation of the balcony with penoplex

Wall insulation

Modern thermal insulation materials provide a high degree of protection of walls from the cold, and if the technology of balconies insulation is fully observed, turning a balcony into a comfortable and warm room is quite realistic. as reliable and effective heaters it is recommended to use isolon, polystyrene, mineral wool, penoplex, penofol, as well as lining and siding that have already become familiar. With significant differences in thickness and structure of all these materials, the laying methods are similar to each other.

  • Siding insulation. The first step is to stretch and fasten the wind barrier rolled into a roll using a stapler. This operation is performed simultaneously with the laying of siding. The wind barrier is directly adjacent to the walls of the loggia, preventing the penetration of cold air. Next, a frame of slats is fixed, between the sections of which a rolled insulation (mineral wool) or polystyrene is laid. Mineral wool is easy to install, its edges do not protrude beyond the outer plane, without interfering with the fastening of plastic or drywall panels. At the same time, when laying mineral wool, you should be careful: you need to work in gloves and a respirator, wear clothes that cover your hands and the whole body from small particles of insulation.
  • Insulation with styrofoam panels. Ways to insulate a loggia with foam plastic are quite simple: fixed foam plastic plates are stacked tightly to each other, blown into the junctions polyurethane foam. Flat pieces of polystyrene are laid in wide slots, and they are also fixed with mounting foam.

The laid layer of mineral wool or polystyrene is covered with a cellophane film, fixing it at the joints with an overlapping stapler, plasterboard, PVC or IMF panels are applied on top. The film can be purchased at the Hydrobarrier store. If it is planned to insulate the balcony under plaster, a fine reinforcing mesh is attached over the film.

Floor insulation

Also used for floor insulation mineral wool and foam. If this is not enough, you can install a "warm floor" system.

  • Comfortable and stylish on the balcony looks like a wooden floor made of well-finished boards, covered with a shiny or matte varnish. Boards are laid on wooden logs and fastened with screws. To install the logs, the floor surface is completely cleaned of the previous coating. Mineral wool is laid between the lags to preserve heat or foam is laid.

On top of the boards can be laid OSB boards(OSB) and varnish them. If necessary, linoleum, carpet or carpet can be laid on top.

Insulation of the balcony with foam

  • When leveling the floor of a balcony or loggia with a concrete screed, after it hardens, a 20 mm high (35th) density foam is laid, on which OSB boards 10 mm thick are then laid. In this way, a reliable one is also created that protects the room from the penetration of cold air.
  • Underfloor heating systems are recognized as the most effective insulating agent, which at the same time is the most expensive option.

Roof insulation

It is most convenient to insulate with foam plastic - this is facilitated by its lightness and sufficient rigidity during installation, as well as excellent thermal insulation qualities. In the case, and as a ceiling, a balcony slab is available from above, the ceiling can not be insulated, but a decision should be made only after assessing the specific conditions.

  • Foam insulation. For the device of the roof, aluminum-galvanized corrugated board is most often used. Under it, a metal or wooden frame is arranged for attaching a foam insulation 55 mm thick. Lastly, MDF, PVC or drywall panels are attached. Only if there is insulation, a corrugated roof can protect the balcony from the effects of cold weather.

The width of such a frame is about 1 meter; both layers of insulation and bottom panels are conveniently mounted on it. In order for the foam sheets to hold tightly in the grooves intended for them, they are cut out a little larger (by a few mm) in size. This contributes to a denser arrangement of insulation without additional fasteners. All remaining gaps left after the assembly of all parts are blown out with mounting foam.

  • Warming with mineral wool. The most suitable option is mineral wool with foil fixed on one side. Foiled mineral wool has high heat-insulating and energy-saving properties - the foil layer does not allow heat to escape from the inside of the room, while preventing the penetration of cold air from the street.

Insulation of the ceiling on the balcony with mineral wool

In order for the material to be firmly held on the ceiling, a frame of 50 × 20 mm wooden slats is required, the same as when sheathing balcony railings. When winding the rails, you can not adhere to a certain order - this will help to better hold the insulating material.

The main thing is to ensure that the distance between the slats is sufficient, and the mineral wool layer does not protrude beyond the slats.

Finishing work

To avoid the appearance of condensation between the insulation and wall cladding, it is necessary to prevent moisture from entering the layers of insulation and cladding. As a vapor barrier reflective materials are used:

  • special polyethylene films;
  • single-layer and multilayer membranes, one- and two-sided.

Do-it-yourself balcony vapor barrier

Water vapor formed during the operation of the premises, fall on the vapor barrier film, remain on it and quickly evaporate. In the absence of a vapor barrier layer, evaporation penetrates directly into the insulation, remaining in it for a long time and leading to a gradual deterioration of its properties and damage due to the occurrence of fungus and mold.

How to install underfloor heating

When choosing the installation option for "warm floors", you can be guided by your own preferences and capabilities. The main selection criteria are:

  • system installation cost:
  • the cost of its operation.

The main options for "warm floors" are systems:

  • water;
  • electrical;
  • heating mats.

For water heating, it is enough to lay a flexible pipeline of the appropriate diameter in the floor, connecting it to the heating or supply system hot water by doing this with the permission of the organization involved in the operation of the house.

For electric heating, laying a special electric device in the floor is used. heating cable a certain power. The organization of work provides for the unconditional fulfillment of electrical safety requirements when laying the cable and further operation of "warm floors". The order and features of laying, the power and length of the cable are determined by calculations, in accordance with the instructions.

The easiest to install heating mats, which are laid directly on the screed and covered with a floor finish.

How to install an electric floor heating system

Calculations for the preparation and installation of the heating cable are carried out in accordance with many parameters, including taking into account the desired air temperature in the room, its dimensions, etc. The cable is laid along the perimeter of the balcony (if its dimensions are small), or along the balcony in the form of a "serpentine", with a certain step between parallel sections. Laying it along the length of the balcony reduces the number of cable bends.

For cable to the floor during installation, a mounting tape is used, fixed on the floor. The mounting tape has special brackets-petals in which each turn of the cable is fixed. The ability to turn on and adjust the supply of electricity to the warm floor is carried out by means of a thermostat connected to a cable and attached to the wall of the balcony at a convenient height. After performing these works, the system's performance is checked, after which the floor screed is made. Flooring must have a high degree of thermal conductivity in order to transfer the maximum amount of heat into the room.

Installation of underfloor heating on the balcony

How to choose heaters for an insulated balcony or loggia
