Do-it-yourself roof from ondulin. Ondulin roofing: description and characteristics of the material, installation methods Permissible slope of ondulin roofing

When you need to cover the roof of a gazebo, a workshop, or a house with not the strongest walls, preference is given to light roofing. These are shingles, corrugated board and the so-called euroslate - ondulin.

In practice, such a roofing compares favorably with its counterparts: you do not need to painfully make a roof pattern, cut metal sheets with sharp edges, and euroslate pleases with noiselessness and is an excellent competitor asbestos-cement slate. And it is about his installation that we will tell in this article.

And, although the installation of ondulin tiles is quite simple, for which it is enough to carefully study the manufacturer's instructions, there are still some subtleties and nuances here. Therefore, if you want to equip the roof and safely forget about it for the next 5-10 years, listen to the advice of our experts!

In fact, the roofing, which today is called ondulin, is bituminous corrugated sheets. These are organic or inorganic fibers impregnated with bitumen, which are formed into a ten-wave sheet, with a compressed multilayer structure.

And some manufacturers cover bituminous corrugated sheets with high-density acrylic, which perfectly protects against wind, rain and ultraviolet radiation. The surface structure becomes so smooth that the dirt that settles on the roof is easily removed by rain and leaves no trace.

That is why the whole feature of ondulin lies in its composition. It is based on natural cellulose (popularly - cardboard), with the addition of mineral granules for rigidity, resin, bituminous impurities and natural dyes.

In the factory, cellulose is impregnated with bitumen with additives at high temperature, after which the entire mass is put into a special unit, where it is already given a neat wavy shape by mechanical pressure. That's all! Ready roofing material it turns out to be light, convenient and easy to cut with a regular hacksaw (unlike metal tiles, which require a circular saw).

Ondulin is completely different from any roofing. That is why, despite the seeming simplicity of installation, it is so easy to make mistakes and ruin this beautiful material. And in order to avoid them, let's first study the features of the Euroslate and what exactly can be done with it.

Regardless of the manufacturer, such a roof looks like this:

Here, even at the design stage, decide on a roofing pie. Under ondulin you can do as cold roof with an attic, and warm, for a future attic. The fact that ondulin allegedly melts and spreads an unpleasant bituminous smell in the heat is not true if we are talking about branded material.

Of course, handicraft products without identification marks and can not do that. And when euroslate is simply not designed for a hot sunny climate, like Gutta, in which bituminous spots even show through under the sun. Therefore, think about the safety of the roof of your house.

Also, during the installation process, it will be necessary to properly organize the ventilation of such a roof. We have prepared an illustration for you so that you can easily understand these concepts:

It is not difficult to calculate the number of ondulin sheets for roof slopes, the main thing is to know their usable area. So, as we have already said, Ondulin is presented in three versions, and each of them has its own design, dimensions and usable area. for example, Ondulin DIY has fewer waves, and Smart has an additional “smart” Smart Lock, and Ondulin Compact sheets are small in size.

Specifically, the usable area is the area of the sheet, excluding end and side overlaps. Just on it you need to divide the area of the slopes, and the exact number of sheets will come out. But remember that the overlap directly depends on the angle of the roof, and the larger it is, the less overlap, and vice versa.

So, at large angles of inclination, it is customary to mount ondulin with a lateral overlap into a wave, and at a small angle, the overlap is made in two waves. On the other hand, the greater the slope of the roof, the greater the end overlap, because this is necessary to prevent leaks during heavy rain, oblique rain, strong wind and puddles of melt water.

Stage II. Studying the features of working with ondulin

In the people, ondulin is called any wavy shingles, for comfort. But there are not so few manufacturers of such roofing, and in appearance their products are practically the same. But the size of the sheets, usable area, weight and fastening features - yes:

Euroslate from Onduline

Let's study the type of "ondulin" that is most popular in Russia. This is Ondulin roofing from the French company Onduline.

It is released at 4 different types. They differ, in fact, only in size and some non-critical chips. Let's look at each of them:

Classic ondulin is suitable for flat roofs, if the angle is from 5 ° or more, and for vaulted, if the radius is from 5 meters. Sheet size 200x95 cm, weight 6 kg, thickness 3 mm. According to some reports, the production of this type of ondulin has stopped.

Ondulin Smart is already a new generation, and is distinguished by applied attachment points, more compact weight, shorter length and smart Smart Lock. Here are its benefits:

 • This is a good hydro-barrier, thanks to which the overlap of sheets is reduced by as much as 5 cm, from 17 cm to 12 cm, and this is with the same crate step.
 • Thanks to the squeezed-out strips of the lock, water does not get under the sheet.
 • The strips themselves serve as guides when laying sheets, so that the overall appearance of the roof in the end looks neater and more geometrically accurate.

All this greatly facilitates the weight of the finished roof. In addition, new nails come to Ondulin Smart, with special caps that do not open over time (previous analogues sin with this). The dimensions of such a sheet: 195x95 cm, thickness 3 mm. Like the classic one, it has 10 waves per sheet.

Another type of ondulin is DiY. It was designed just for self-assembly, because it has smaller dimensions: 200x75 cm, a thickness of 3 mm, and a weight of only 5 kg. Due to the reduced width of the sheets, more overlaps are obtained here, and the roof is more rigid, due to which it can withstand increased loads.

And finally, Ondulin Compact, which was specially designed for complex and small roofs. It is easy to transport in a conventional car and is not difficult to lay on the roof. Ondulin Compact sheets have the smallest size, only 100x75 cm, thickness 2.6 mm and weight only 2.5 kg. Because the size is smaller, here the overlaps are even more, and the strength is even higher. Each sheet has 8 waves.

Wavy bitumen sheets from Nuline, Aqualine, Bituwell and Ondura

Quite popular in Russia are bitumen sheets from the manufacturer Nuline, which attract with their strength: sheet thickness is 3.3-3.6 mm. Outwardly and by touch, this is the most common ondulin, and this is how it is perceived. Plus, the material is so durable that it is suitable for difficult climatic zones.

The dimensions of this ondulin are 1.22x2.05 m, which is 2.5 m 2 of the roof area. The weight of one sheet is 3.22 kg. The width of such sheets is considered unique, the most convenient for installation, and the entire laying is 30% faster and there are much fewer joints, and, therefore, leaks. Ondulin from Nuline should be laid on the crate with a step of 61 cm, fastened with nails at the top of each corrugation:

Bituminous sheets from Aqualine are also attached to nails, with the same hats and using the same technology. For Bituwell euroslate, nails always come with a closed decorative cap, and also match the color of the roof. But in the kit for ondulin from Ondura, the nails come with a diamond-shaped hat - a rather interesting design move.

Stage III. Choice of fasteners for mounting

For the installation of bituminous corrugated sheets of the ondulin type, special roofing nails are produced. They are also called hardware, metal products.

Such nails differ in a noticeable wide hat, which reliably presses the roofing sheet to the crate, and does not damage them. And there is no risk that with more effort the nail will go through. Zinc anti-corrosion coating protects against moisture.

Moreover, the hats themselves can be fused or monolithic. These hats are made from polyethylene. low pressure, due to which they are shockproof, airtight, resistant to temperature extremes and are not afraid of ultraviolet radiation:

The leg of the nail is made of carbon steel to be more durable. Its annular profile helps the nail stay in the crate. As roofers like to joke, a screw hammered into a wall holds better than a screwed nail. Here this principle is just implemented!

And a special conical shape makes it easier to drive a nail, but then tearing it out of the ondulin will no longer work. The standard size of nails for ondulin is as follows: diameter - 3.55 mm, length - 75 mm.

To achieve aesthetics, ondulin caps are painted according to the same catalog as roofing sheets, and such fastening is imperceptible against the background of the entire roof:

Moreover, each manufacturer of bituminous corrugated sheets produces its own fastening. One believes that the hats should be made smaller and inconspicuous so as not to spoil the roof pattern, and the other believes that neat dots on the slope look beneficial, and highlights them both in color and size.

Here is an example of a fastener hidden from the eye:

By the way, some types of euroslate from Western manufacturers are not laid on nails, but on special brackets and mounting foam:

If you find such a mount on sale, take it boldly, because something similar is used to mount piece natural tiles.

Stage IV. Preparation of sheets for installation

To cut ondulin, you will need the following tools: a hacksaw and a hammer. Be sure to grease the hacksaw with oil. so that it does not get stuck in bitumen:

An alternative is a manual and circular electric saw:

Here is one of the options for how to cut ondulin:

During installation, move along the roof using building bridges or stairs. Try to stretch and compress the sheet no more than 1 cm, although it looks elastic.

Stage V. Laying sheets on the crate

It is possible to lay modern ondulin both on a wooden and on a metal crate:

The crate for all types of ondulin is mounted according to the same principle, regardless of the size of the sheets and the manufacturer:

 1. If the roof angle is from 5 to 10 °, then a continuous crate is needed.
 2. If the angle is in the range from 10 to 15 °, the crate pitch should be 45 cm.
 3. If the slope angle is from 15 ° and above - then 61 cm.

For a solid crate, take a 25 mm thick edged board, OSB boards or moisture-resistant plywood, and for a sparse beam with a section of 40x60 mm.

Here is an example of how simple a crate is needed for a small gazebo:

Before installation, be sure to check the slopes for squareness. Install sheets at temperatures from -5°C to +30°C. Ondulin is always laid starting from the leeward side:

Lay out the first row from the bottom of the roof, from the edge that is opposite to the edge of the roof. Start laying the second row from half a sheet. It is important that the corner joint is overlapped in 3 sheets, and not in 4, so that later the corner does not deform ^

To fix the sheet, you need 20 nails. Just do not drive nails into the wave on which the next sheet will overlap. First of all, fix the sheet at the four corners. Next, fasten the bottom of the sheet, for each wave.

Make sure that the edges of the sheet are fixed to the crate. As a result, the sheet should recede 5-7 cm from the edge of the crate. Install a cornice strip on top, which has special places for bending (this is how the overhang is adjusted). And to close the gap under the sheets from the side of the cornice and provide ventilation, use a filler.

If you work with a Smart Lock, then you are in luck, because the guides here will help prevent accidental shifting of sheets. The cornice will turn out even and neat. Fasten each sheet of Ondulin Smart with 20 nails, directly along the mounting markings, stacking the sheets themselves in a checkerboard pattern.

At the beginning of each of the even rows, lay half the sheet. You should succeed so that the side overlaps of the sheets fall in the middle of the sheets of the lower rows. Ondulin Smart has an end overlap height of 12 cm.

When the sheets are laid, complete the construction of the roof with special accessories: tongs, valley, ridge, special sealing tapes Onduband and Onduflash, universal ventilated aggregate and breathable tape Ondulair Slim. And if the roof has internal bends, they need to be closed with special valleys, which are usually supplied with roofing sheets:

Stage VI. Installation of Ondulin roofing sheets on an old roof

Ondulin is such a light and easy-to-install coating that you can’t think of anything better to update the old one. On the other hand, an outdated roof under euroslate will also serve as a good foundation.

Plus, such advantages that the installation of a new roof on an old one brings:

 • There are no costs for dismantling the old roof and mountains of garbage.
 • Save time by not having to re-roof.
 • No matter how fragile ondulin may seem, now the inner pie of the roof is securely protected.
 • Double Leak Protection!

This is how the technology of installing ondulin on an old roof looks like:

Let's take a look at the technology for attaching euroslate to an old roof in steps:

 • Step 1. Assess the condition of the roof and how strong the wooden elements of the roof are: beams, rafters and lathing. If you notice dilapidated elements, be sure to replace them or strengthen them.
 • Step 2. Now fill the bars along the rafters for the future fastening of the ondulin.
 • Step 3. Install the crate with the same step as for the usual installation of ondulin. You can use the manufacturer's instructions for this.
 • Step 4. Now install 10 cm from the ridge on the slopes additional elements crates - there will be another full-fledged skate.
 • Step 5. To improve appearance roofs, install on the eaves drainage system and drip.

In practice, everything looks like this:

We tried to collect for you in this article all the most useful tips and recommendations from experienced roofers who had to work with ondulin.

Of course, the manufacturers themselves are not eager to announce all these pitfalls and peculiarities in installation, because the brand must be kept. And you, if you are going to work with this material, such knowledge will just be useful!

Which can be mounted in different ways, depending on the purpose of the roof.

The roof layers that need to be covered are called roofing cake. Each of the layers roofing cake performs its functions and fits in accordance with certain rules. If the laying of at least one layer of the roofing cake is violated, the principle of the functional purpose of the entire roof is completely violated.

Depending on the design of the roof, on its purpose, the sequence, installation method and number of layers may vary slightly. In this article, you will learn how to put ondulin and how to calculate the number of roof sheets.

The width and length of a standard euroslate sheet is 95 cm and 200 cm, respectively. The area of such a sheet is 1.92 square meters. The useful area of the material is determined without overlaps and can be: 1.3 sq. m, 1.5 sq. m and 1.6 sq. m.

To calculate the consumption of material, indicators should be determined:

 • usable area of the covering material. Depends on the angle of inclination. The multi-pitched shape of the roof is calculated from the total area of each of the slopes;
 • roof area. It is determined by adding the areas of all slopes with mathematical formulas of figures (trapezoid, square, rectangle, triangle);
 • the number of sheets of material. It is determined by dividing the area of the entire roof by the usable area of one sheet of material.

CAREFULLY!

The roof area is calculated exclusively along the eaves overhang line, but not along the edge of the roof lathing.

Of great importance is the correct calculation of longitudinal overlaps, which can significantly reduce the number of trimmings. The top row, if possible, should be laid in sheets of full length, since the ridge element will reduce its height.

There are a few more additions to the correct calculation of ondulin:

 • when calculating, you should additionally add 10% or 15-20% respectively to a simple roof or a complex roof with different angles and transitions;
 • additional elements (ridge, valleys, tongs, aprons around chimneys and windows, junctions) require additional coverage with ondulin;
 • when calculating ondulin mixed color solution it is necessary to schematically depict the design of the roof on a reduced scale and calculate the consumption of sheets of each color separately.

Special programs for calculating the consumption of covering material greatly facilitate mathematical calculations and help to more accurately calculate the amount of euroslate for roofing.

Ondulin - installation instructions

When the crate is mounted in accordance with the angle of inclination, the coating should be laid in stages. Installation of ondulin step by step:

ondulin (tile) installation instructions

Now you know in detail how to put ondulin. All stages of roofing ensure error-free laying of ondulin, regardless of what roof design is provided. The sequence of actions provides a good result.

Waterproofing and vapor barrier under ondulin

Firms producing ondulin present the material as a coating that does not require the installation of additional vapor barrier materials or waterproofing. At the same time, it is recommended to equip the roof of the room (or attic) requiring insulation with a waterproofing layer. We also recommend installing a vapor barrier membrane on the side of the room.

Additional elements of waterproofing and ventilation devices:

 1. waterproofing of the roofing cornice is provided by a special box, which is attached to the base of the sheet overhang;
 2. ventilation is provided by ventilation pipes, which, like a window, are fastened with self-tapping screws for each wave of the coating;
 3. to protect against insects, a ventilation comb is mounted in the clearance under the eaves;
 4. the joints of the ondulin sheets are glued with a tape produced by the coating manufacturer (Onduflash);
 5. junctions of windows, valleys and other joints with the roof, cornices are also glued with adhesive tape;

Vapor barrier is often provided by laying a special vapor barrier material. Such a layer should be covered in a roofing cake.

Conclusion

You can cover the roof with ondulin quite efficiently if you study the principles of work and take into account the nuances of installation. Despite the fact that the material is quite light, it will be possible for one person to install it.

In contact with

When choosing a roofing for their home, many owners who experience certain difficulties in terms of the construction budget try to find the best material based on the harmony of price-quality criteria. At the same time, the owners, who care about the appearance of the building being created, probably have a desire to get away from the boring gray tones inherent, for example, in ordinary slate. And finally the best option, with their points of view, I see such a coating that can be mounted independently, without resorting to the expensive services of a roofing team. If we summarize all these criteria, then ondulin can become a good option for their practical implementation.

It must be said right away that the attitude towards this material is not entirely unambiguous, and sometimes even polar. He is extolled “to the skies” and scolded mercilessly, sometimes unfairly attributing shortcomings unusual for him. Perhaps the “detractors” of ondulin once came across low-quality material, that is, an obvious fake, or the installation was carried out with serious violations of the technology established by the manufacturer.

Let's therefore take a closer look at this roofing material: consider what it is, what characteristics, real advantages and disadvantages it has, how to choose such a coating and how to fix ondulin on the roof with your own hands.

What is ondulin

To begin with - what is "ondulin". After all, the name itself does not say anything to an unknowing person, and even somehow not in Russian “cuts the ear”.

A few facts from the history of the material

This name, in fact, is the name of the French company "Onduline", which, back in 1944, patented and started producing wavy roofing sheets on a cellulose-bitumen basis. Post-war Europe required a huge amount of building materials to restore the destroyed, and such coatings have become a real find for this.

Ondulin was very widely used in Western Europe and even received the unspoken name of "Euroslate". The great demand for such a roof prompted the company's management to expand production facilities - ondulin production lines were launched in Germany and Italy, and sales offices were opened far beyond Europe.

The material entered the Russian market in 1994. Ondulin "came to court" to our homeowners, and taking into account the increased demand, the company opened a line for the production of material in Nizhny Novgorod, with an estimated production capacity of up to 15 million roofing sheets per year. The factory conducts the most stringent quality control, so the sheets Russian production do not concede in howoriginal products head company enterprises.

Prices for ondulin

In addition to ondulin, the company also produces its variety, which is represented on the market by the name "ondura". There is no fundamental difference in the structure of the roofing, except for their geometric dimensions - ondura sheets are much larger in size, and it is more convenient to use them on roofs of a large area.

Another "competitor" of ondulin are roofing sheets of the Nulin brand. These are products of the American company Nuline Corporation, similar in production technology and differing again mainly in the geometric dimensions of the sheets. However, we can probably talk about competition not appropriate at all, since since 2010 the main assets of Nuline Corporation have been acquired again by Onduline .

From what and how is the ondulin roof made

One of the key advantages of such roofing material is that only “clean” materials from an environmental point of view are used for its production. The main components of ondulin are cellulose fibers and refined bitumen.

The source of cellulose fibers is the waste of woodworking enterprises for the production of paper, cardboard and building materials from composite wood. Secondary raw materials - waste paper - are also widely used.

The purified cellulose mass is mixed with special mineral additives that increase the plasticity of the mixture and the strength of the resulting material, and pigment dyes. Then the mixture is rolled into sheets, which are transferred to the pressing line. At this stage, they are given a characteristic wavy shape, and at the same time, at a certain temperature regime and the calculated pressure, complete impregnation of the resulting profile sheets with refined modified bitumen.

On the coloring line, the sheets are given the necessary colors (matte or even glossy), one- or two-sided, after which the material after drying is cut with high precision into individual sheets, packed in packs and delivered to the warehouse.

As you can see, the production process itself is not very complex. However, in this case it is very important to strictly comply with all technological requirements at each stage. This is what becomes the key to the quality of the resulting material. There are many varieties of "euro-slate" on the market, which, apparently, is produced with significant simplifications of technology. All this, of course, directly affects the quality and durability of the roof, and, most likely, that negative background in relation to ondulin is caused precisely by the use of such materials.

The main characteristics of ondulin

Since our article is devoted to working with ondulin, only this material will be considered further, and not all similar materials that often appear in colloquial speech under this name. However, this practically does not affect the roofing installation technology - it is similar for all corrugated sheets of this type.

So, under the brand ondulin»Currently, two types of roofing sheets are produced: ONDULIN DIY and ONDULIN SMART. The fundamental difference between them is only in the geometric dimensions of the sheet, and the resulting differences in mass and cost.

To simplify the perception of information about the physical, technical and operational characteristics of both types of ondulin, we will place it in the table:

An interesting feature - compared to previously produced types of ondulin, the ONDULIN DIY and ONDULIN SMART models are much easier to install and more profitable regarding the number purchased sheets. All this is thanks to the so-called "smart lock" and already applied marking lines and points for driving fastening nails.

In the illustration above, this smart lock is shown in thick lines, and a section of this connection is made in the upper left corner. These are two parallel grooves 15 mm wide, convex upwards, which run along the upper and lower edges of the sheet at a distance of 20 mm from them, and a distance of 50 mm from one another.

Such an improvement allows you to accurately combine adjacent sheets in one row (exactly along one line), without fear of getting an uneven cornice overhang or a broken line in the rows of roofing.

Another plus is that such profile grooves provide a reliable vertical overlap of sheets (with this combination, the required overlap width of 120 mm is provided). True, these 120 mm are only for slopes with a steepness of more than 15 degrees, but it is these angles that are most common in residential private construction.

Thanks to this innovation, it was possible to reduce the standard for the minimum overlap of sheets along the slope line by as much as 50 mm. In old ondulin models, this figure was 170 mm, for SMART and DIY models it was only 120 mm. Roofing becomes lighter as less material is required.

Advantages and disadvantages of ondulin

To finish with the theory and move on to practical issues, it is worth mentioning the “pluses” and “minuses” of ondulin - you need to know this even before making a decision on choosing this material as a roofing.

So to virtues ondulin include the following:

 • Unlike similar in form and principles, ondulin does not contain harmful to human health and for environment substances, in particular asbestos.
 • The material has a small mass - and this is a simplification and reduction in the cost of transportation, a reduction in the load on the truss system, and a significant simplification of installation work.

 • A small specific gravity of the material allows it to be laid in general on the old coating, without dismantling - it is enough to perform the necessary crate on top of the old roof.

 • With proper installation, such a roof provides guaranteed protection against leaks.
 • Ondulin has a certain flexibility, which makes it possible to use it on problem areas of the roof, where a small bending radius is required.
 • Cellulose-bitumen sheets are hydrophobic, they are not subject to corrosion or decay.
 • Ondulin, due to its plasticity and elasticity, is not afraid of moderate point impacts, never cracks or chips when cutting or driving a nail, and can be easily cut without the use of any special tools.
 • Coverage at correct styling able to withstand very significant snow and wind loads.
 • Ondulin roofing perfectly muffles the noise of rain or hail, favorably differing in this respect from both slate and metal coatings.

 • Installation of such a coating is very simple, and probably any good home owner can do it without resorting to the services of roofers.
 • The choice of the buyer is represented by several colors of roofing - you can choose the most harmonious to the planned exterior finish of the entire building.

 • If we add to all that has been said, and very affordable price, then the popularity of ondulin becomes easily explained.

All this is wonderful, but we must not lose sight of certain flaws such roofing.

 • Ondulin eventually fades in the sun, losing its original color, fading.
 • The material is flammable. True, spontaneous combustion, for example, from sparks from a chimney or from overheating, is practically impossible, but in a fire it will support combustion. According to many firefighters, this sometimes even speaks in favor of the cover - the faster the fire breaks out through the roof, the more likely it is to save the main building.

 • The material is strong enough, but still strong shock loads are contraindicated for it. For example, it is easy to break through or wash it until it loses its tightness with a hammer blow during inaccurate installation. But these are out of the ordinary cases.
 • The rough surface of the material retains snow even at fairly large slope angles. But again, it remains to be seen whether this is considered a disadvantage or an advantage. If rafter system and the crate are planned and installed correctly, taking into account the likely snow load for the region of residence, then there is no trouble in this.
 • Some blame ondulin for fragility. However, a 15-year factory warranty on branded material speaks volumes in itself. According to the manufacturer, the coating can serve much longer (naturally, in the absence of any force majeure circumstances).

So, according to the combination of characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, we can conclude that ondulin can be considered as, say, a budget, but still reliable and outwardly attractive roofing. And the ease of installation, which will be discussed below, also additionally conceals its shortcomings.

Self-laying roofing from ondulin

Roofing work is always preceded by the choice of material and the acquisition of the required quantity. What should be remembered in our case?

We have to state one sad regularity - only one or another construction material wins "authority", as immediately fakes appear on the market for it, and often very low quality. And ondulin in this series is no exception.

The cost of the original ondulin is not so high as to look for "for a penny of nickels." It is best to start from the old folk wisdom that the miser pays twice. Under the collective name "euro slate" there are already a lot of materials on sale, both more or less acceptable in quality, and not very good. And sellers often pass them off as real ondulin, or at least begin to convince that this is a complete analogue, produced under license. Moreover, there are cases when unscrupulous store employees "sold" to an unscrupulous consumer not roofing material at all, but cardboard-bitumen sheets intended for repair work and for creating additional under-roofing waterproofing.

Therefore, if it is decided to cover the roof of the house with ondulin, then you should always keep in mind a few
• The Onduline company has never transferred licenses to anyone, and has not officially allowed other companies to produce analogues of its products. The management of the concern values the reputation of the brand extremely, conducts the most severe quality control, and wherever branded roofing is produced (including in Russia), it still appears under a single brand.
 • Ondulin is sold only through a network of sales offices and official dealers with whom the relevant agreements have been concluded. It would be useful to clarify whether the seller has a certificate of the established form. If not, then this should give some thought.

 • It has already been said above that the manufacturer gives a very impressive guarantee for its products - 15 years. And this, in turn, means that no matter what batch of ondulin neither acquired, it must be accompanied by an appropriate passport. In this document, by the way, there is always a clear step-by-step instruction for self-assembly of the roof. And at the very end of the passport there is a warranty card, which details all the provisions on the provision of a guarantee, and on which the date of sale must be endorsed with the signature and seal of the seller.

And some more helpful tips.

 • When buying, try to check that all purchased sheets are from the same factory batch. The fact is that the color in different batches may vary slightly in tone. It is visually difficult to identify this in the store, but on the roof, the transition of tones to the rhinestone becomes noticeable.
 • Do not forget to check the condition of the sheets, especially if they are sold individually, already unpacked form. Particular attention is paid to the corners, as they most often “suffer” during inaccurate transportation.

How much material will be needed?

We figured out the quality, now we turn to the quantity of the material.

Calculating the required number of ondulin sheets is not difficult: you need to find out the area of the roof and divide it by the value of the “useful” sheet area, that is, without taking into account side and end overlaps with adjacent sheets.

As can be seen from the table above, the value of the "useful" sheet area depends not only on its type - "SMART" or "DIY", but also on the slope angle of the slope. This is explained simply - the more gentle the slope of the slope, the slower the water descends from the roof, the more likely it is to penetrate into the gaps between the sheets during, for example, a strong wind, and the more overlaps are made to avoid leaks. We will get acquainted with specific overlapping standards a little later, when it comes to the practice of installing the coating.

If this is an ordinary one - or gable roof, there are no problems - even a primary school student will determine the area of the rectangle. It is somewhat more difficult with hip, hipped, multi-gable roofs. But even here it is quite possible to find a solution, and in some ways we can help.

Several useful calculators for calculating roof areas

On the pages of our portal there is a selection of calculators that greatly simplify the process of calculating roof areas. So, the reader can use the calculation program, a separate calculator is also available to determine. If the roof does not have a completely standard configuration, then it is better to break it into sections of a simpler shape, and then each, followed by summation.

Well, since the area of the roof is known, it remains only to divide it by the area of the sheet. But it is also necessary to take into account the fact that a certain part of the material will go into cutting, especially if the slopes are trapezoidal or triangular in shape. In addition, there is a possibility of accidental marriage in work. That is, in order to insure against accidents, it is advisable to lay a certain margin, say, 10 percent.

You must immediately purchase the required number of nails. They must also be original - amateur performance is unacceptable here. Nails have a strictly defined length, which guarantees reliable fastening of ondulin sheets through the top of the wave. The nail heads are equipped with a special press washer and a sealing gasket. The color of the hat is selected depending on the chosen color of the coating - the fasteners become very inconspicuous against the general background.

By the way, it makes sense to buy a new type of Onduline nails. If on previously produced nails, after hammering, the hat was necessarily closed with a decorative hat, then on the latest samples the hat is cast, not deformed from hammer blows. A trifle, of course, but on the scale of the entire roofing, it rather simplifies and speeds up installation.

When calculating the number of nails, it is assumed that "Ondulin SMART" requires 20 nails per sheet, for "Ondulin DIY" - 15, since the sheets have two waves less.

Perhaps it would be useful to take into account the fact that progress work, the nail can bend, that is, become unusable for further use. In addition, it happens that when working at a height, the master will drop one or two nails, and then they cannot be found immediately. That is, it is necessary to lay a reserve here too - to the estimated number, based on the number of sheets required for the roof, to purchase an additional couple of dozen nails - just in case. Even if they remain, there will always be a use for high-quality nails in the household.

To make it easier for the reader to calculate the required amount of materials, a calculator is provided below. The principle of working with it has already been outlined above, and probably no additional explanations are required.

We do the installation of ondulin roofing for the house with our own hands

How easy is it to cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands?

Roofing is the last step in building your own home before you start. interior decoration and connection of communications. To reduce execution time roofing works, you can do the installation of ondulin with your own hands. Ondulin is a modern bitumen-based coating, the laying technology of which allows you to mount the material both on a new roof and on an old one without disassembling the structure. It is suitable for roofing of any complexity, area and slope, therefore it is considered a universal option used in private and industrial low-rise construction. In this article, we will tell you how to properly cover the roof with ondulin in order to get a durable, airtight coating that can withstand winter frosts and summer rains.

Material characteristic

Ondulin is an inexpensive, technologically advanced roofing material that was invented in the post-war period in France for quick repair or reconstruction of shell-damaged, dilapidated roofs made of traditional ceramic tiles, slate, metal. The production technology of this coating consists in obtaining purified cellulose fibers, making sheets with a wavy surface from them, dyeing and impregnating them with petroleum bitumen. Covering the roof with ondulin makes the structure waterproof, resistant to temperature changes, shockproof, but at the same time light. Installation of ondulin due to the low weight of each sheet can be performed on the old roofing material without dismantling the structure. This material has the following advantages:

 1. A light weight. Each leaf of ondulin standard size weighs only 6 kg, so the device of blood from this material does not require the establishment of a massive frame or strengthening of the foundation.
 2. Ease of installation. Do-it-yourself ondulin roofing is done in 1-2 days without the involvement of hired workers, since such a coating can be installed without special tools and experience.
 3. Flexibility. Sheets of this bitumen-based material have a certain flexibility, which simplifies the installation of ondulin on roofs of complex shape, which include valleys, slopes, ribs and dormer windows.
 4. Affordable price. Ondulin roofing does not require high costs from the homeowner by saving the lumber used to build the frame and doing the installation yourself.

Important! Since ondulin was still conceived as a repair material, it has a service life of 15-20 years and is relatively small. colors. It comes in just 4 colors: red, black, brown and green. Before covering the roof with ondulin, it must be taken into account that this material fades in the sun due to the destruction of the pigment by ultraviolet rays.

Roof device

Before you cover the roof with ondulin, you need to understand the composition of the roofing cake, which is made for this type of roofing material. The construction of a roof with molded cellulose impregnated with bitumen is not difficult due to its light weight. It consists of the following elements:

 • Rafter frame. The roofing material is fastened to rafters made of natural wood with a section of 50xx150 mm, the step between which is 50-80 cm. Since the material is light in weight, the frame is usually not weighted with additional elements.
 • Insulation. Before laying ondulin, thermal insulation material is laid between the rafters. The most commonly used mineral-type heaters (basalt wool, glass wool, slag wool).
 • Vapor barrier. The insulation laying technology involves the use of a vapor barrier membrane, which protects the thermal insulation material from below from the penetration of steam and getting wet.
 • Waterproofing. To protect the wooden frame elements and insulation from possible leaks or condensation, a waterproofing film is laid. The waterproofing is fastened to the rafter legs using a construction stapler.
 • Control grid. Before laying the ondulin, counter-lattices are nailed over the waterproofing along the rafters, which organize the ventilation gap necessary for air circulation inside the structure.
 • Crate. The type of crate is specified by the step-by-step installation instructions. Ondulin must be nailed to a continuous crate made of moisture-resistant plywood or a lattice of unedged boards laid in 10-15 cm increments so that the roofing material does not deform during operation.
 • Ondulin. Roofing material must be nailed directly to the crate with special nails, overlapping the sheets on top of each other by 10-15 cm.

Please note that before covering the roof with ondulin, most professional craftsmen they treat the wooden elements of the frame with antiseptic impregnations and fire-blocking compounds to protect them from fire and decay.

Necessary materials and tools

Many inexperienced craftsmen are wondering how to properly cover the roof with ondulin, and what is needed for this. The fastening of this roofing material is carried out without the use of special tools or expensive equipment, so installation is often done by hand. For the construction of a roof from ondulin use:

 1. Ondulin sheets 0.95x2.05 m in size, necessary to cover the entire roof area with a margin of 10-15% for cutting and overlapping.
 2. Ridge profile for the entire length of the ridge, taking into account overlaps between elements of 10-25 cm.
 3. Fasteners. Special nails for ondulin with a rubber head are made of carbon steel and painted to match the material.
 4. A bar with a section of 40x40 mm or 60x40 mm for the construction of a crate, treated with an antiseptic.
 5. Waterproofing membrane or film.
 6. Sharp hacksaw for cutting sheets.
 7. Lightweight nail hammer.
 8. Screwdriver for fixing the crate.
 9. Ruler, tape measure and construction pencil for measuring and marking.

Note! Before you cover the roof with ondulin with your own hands, you need to adjust scaffolding around the house or a high staircase that allows you to get to every corner of the slope.

Mounting technology

Even without knowing how to fix ondulin, an inexperienced master can easily cope with this task alone, since sheets of material are easily processed. However, do not forget that the reliability and service life of the roof depends on the quality of installation. For ondulin flooring, the following step-by-step instructions are used:

 • First of all, you need to put and fix a waterproofing film on the finished rafters. To do this, it is rolled out, cut into strips of the required length, which are mounted along the slope perpendicular to the rafter legs with an overlap of 10-15 cm. The film is fixed with a construction stapler to the rafters, and the joints are glued with adhesive tape.
 • over waterproofing material along rafter legs nail the rails of the counter-lattice. To do this, use long nails or screws.
 • A crate of bars 4x4 cm, 5x5 cm in increments of 10 cm or solid - from sheets of moisture-resistant plywood is nailed over the crate.
 • Next, start laying ondulin. Sheets of material must be laid with an overlap of 10-15 cm, starting from the bottom edge of the slope. The rows are mounted with an offset of half the sheet, observing a vertical overlap of 15-20 cm.
 • Sheets are nailed with special nails with wide rubber heads to the crate. It takes about 20 fasteners to fix each sheet.

Not knowing how to lay ondulin correctly, inexperienced craftsmen make mistakes when installing the roof. The main thing is to lay this material in dry, but not hot weather, since elevated temperatures lead to deformation of the sheets. It is forbidden to stand on the ondulin during installation, as it may break or change shape.

Ondulin: do-it-yourself installation. Step-by-step instructions for installing ondulin

If the roof of the building has lost its original attractive appearance and has ceased to be functional, then it is necessary to equip a new floor using special material for this. On the building products market, you can find a great variety of those, but ondulin is considered one of the most popular today. This material is in demand for many reasons, among them are strength, resistance to deformation processes, as well as moisture. The roof after completion of the work will not crumble when the weather changes, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, and will also perfectly show its noise-absorbing abilities. During operation, the surface does not fade, and in the store you can choose the color that suits you.

Ondulin, the installation of which implies the need to comply with the technology, will not require repair for a long time. This building material is great for any roofs. Installation is quite simple, which is why any master will be able to handle this kind of manipulation. Before starting, it is not at all necessary to get rid of the old covering material. This will not only reduce costs, but also reduce the time of work. After the process is completed, the surface of the ondulin is painted.

What else does a master need to know?

Ondulin is a bituminous material that is made in the form of sheets. None of the components harmful substances, and cellulose and fiberglass do not pose a risk to human health at all. In the production process, cardboard is used, which is coated on both sides in the form of bitumen. Quite often, modern consumers pay attention to environmental friendliness, this parameter in some cases is the determining factor. It is worth mentioning that the described roofing material meets these requirements.

Ondulin is very easy to install, this fibrous material is rough to the touch, in the store you can choose one of four shades. Ondulin, which can be installed on a steel floor, is elastic. This indicates that the sheets can be easily bent, laying on any surface.

Preparatory work

At the first stage, the master must prepare the necessary materials and tools. Among other things, you should enlist the help of another person. For work, you need to purchase canvases, the size of which is 200 x 95 cm. Next, the roof is measured and the number of sheets to be purchased is determined. Add 10-20% to this value, this is necessary for trimming and protrusions at the edges. Among other things, you will need a beam, which will go to the arrangement of the crate. In cross section, this material should have dimensions of 40 x 40 millimeters.

Ondulin, the installation of which must be carried out according to the technology described below, is strengthened with special nails. Their shade should match the color of the covering material. In shape, such fasteners resemble screws that have a rubber frame. This allows you to get an additional layer of waterproofing, which prevents water from leaking after installing ondulin. You will need a corner for the ridge, the waterproofing for which should be done very carefully. This element is also used at the junction vertical wall with a roof.

Aprons based on rubber should be used around the circumference of the chimney. When ondulin is used as a covering material, installation must be carried out taking into account the above requirements. In the process, insulating tape should be used, it is installed at the border of the roof with the window. These components can be used as a valley. Having visited the store, you need to ask about the presence of a special pipe that is used for ventilation.

Instrument preparation

In the course of the work, you will certainly have to cut the sheets; for this, the master must use a hacksaw. Use a pencil for marking. Manipulations cannot be carried out without a hammer, ruler or building centimeter. Purchase a screwdriver and cutter. In order to mark the boundaries of the crate system, a rope or thread should be used. A special ladder will also be useful, with the help of which the fastening will be carried out.

Roof preparation

Installation of ondulin should be carried out only when you are sure that the old roof is capable of withstanding a load of 100 kilograms or more. This is required to ensure that the surface is capable of withstanding the load of snow. If you are not sure about the strength of the old coating, then you need to get rid of it. The roof must be cleaned, for this you can use a regular broom. The base is freed from branches, debris, and leaves.

Arrangement of the crate

Installation of ondulin is recommended to be carried out on continuous sheathing sheets. This will guarantee resistance to deformation as a result of exposure to ultraviolet radiation. But you can install individual elements of the frame. They can be made independently, for this you should use a beam, the cross section of which is 5 x 5 cm. The length of these elements should be quite impressive.

Initially, a longitudinal crate is installed, after which the beam should be fixed to the old one, using self-tapping screws for this. Initially, you need to deal with the elements that will be located on the edge. Then the thread is pulled across. In its direction, it is necessary to fix the remaining components of the frame.

Now you can start laying horizontally oriented crates. Bars should be installed across existing ones. It is important to fix the intersection points with self-tapping screws. If the roof is sloping, then the crate should be located along. In the process of work, plywood should be used, which is not afraid of moisture. It should be noted that do-it-yourself installation of an ondulin roof requires an extremely durable frame system. Due to the fact that ondulin is pliable, significant gaps between the components of the crate can cause the material to sag. Initially, this will cause a not very aesthetic appearance, which will subsequently lead to leaks.

Features of mounting ondulin

Installation of a roof made of ondulin involves strengthening the wind board. This detail decorates the gap and prevents wind from entering the under-roof space. It is necessary to start work on laying ondulin from below. As a rule, this is done from the edge that is not exposed to strong winds.

The material must be reinforced cross bars horizontally. For one canvas, it will be necessary to spend 20 nails. After the first row has been completed, you can proceed to laying the second. In some cases, when preparing the base, a metal crate is used, while the technology remains the same, however, fastening should be done using self-tapping screws.

When the roof is installed from ondulin, it is necessary to cut the sheets. It is recommended that the place of the proposed cut be preliminarily treated with oil, as well as the working surface of the saw. Such work should be carried out with a hacksaw. This approach will prevent the decay of the material into individual elements. Professionals quite often use an electric circular saw. Do not start working at an excessively high ambient temperature. This will lead to the fact that ondulin will acquire the quality of flexibility and will become difficult to mount. When carrying out work, do not move on the surface of the laid covering material.

Features of the crate device

If you are installing a roof from ondulin with your own hands, then it is important to take into account the slope of the surface. If it does not exceed ten degrees, then the lattice should be equipped using thin boards and plywood. First, rafters are fixed to the roof, the distance between which should be somewhat less than half a meter. This will allow the sheets to be placed on a solid support. When installing the crossbars, the same step should be followed.

In order to ensure the drainage of liquid from the surface, an overlap should be made, the width of which is 200 millimeters. As for the side overlap, its width can be equal to one wave. If you chose ondulin, you should definitely follow the installation rules. With a slope that exceeds 15 degrees, the distance between the frame elements should be less frequent, this parameter is 600 millimeters. The side overlap must have the same width. The crossbars must be fixed in such a way that they are parallel to the ground and to each other. To do this, you can make a template from a bar of the desired length.

Determining the amount of covering material

If you are installing ondulin with your own hands, then you will first need to carry out the calculation. Ondulin sheet repeats the dimensions and configurations of gray slate. If the roof has old slate as a covering, then it will be enough just to count the number of sheets. All these manipulations, including sizing, are done on the ground. In order to ensure the evenness of the line, a whole sheet of material should be applied to the surface.

Proper installation of ondulin involves laying the sheets in such a way that the joints between the sheets are in the center above another sheet, which is located below. This should allow you to get something like brickwork. In this case, the formation of continuous vertically oriented seams should not be allowed. This approach guarantees the strengthening of the side joints, which will consist of three canvases instead of four.

The installation of fasteners should be carried out on the crest of the wave through one. Initially, the lower end of the material is fixed, only after that it is possible to switch to the transverse crossbars of the frame. In order not to deviate from the intended line, the extreme nails that are visible are first nailed. After the rope is pulled from edge to edge. It will be convenient to nail the rest of the nails along it.

External conditions

It is possible to install ondulin on roofing material. In this case, as in any other, it is necessary to adhere to certain rules. Thus, work should not be started if the air temperature exceeds 25 degrees in the shade. With such indicators, the air is heated in the sun to 30 degrees, which is equal to the melting point of bitumen. Installing ondulin under such conditions is inefficient. It will melt at the attachment points where the gaps are formed. The finished roof perfectly endures any heat, this is due to the fact that the nails are already fixed, and the material is not subjected to mechanical stress. The same recommendations should be taken into account at low ambient temperatures. At zero degrees and below, the material becomes brittle and rigid. If ondulin was chosen by you, the installation technology eliminates the possibility of influencing the space between the waves. This load causes deformation. As for the crest of the canvas, it is able to withstand such loads.

Conclusion

The instruction assumes the use of a certain number of nails, which was mentioned above. If you decide to save money, then this can cause a turn and tear the canvas after the first gust of wind. The same rule applies to self-tapping screws that fix the Euro-slate when using a metal crate. In those areas where dissimilar materials are located, namely the roof ridge, gables, and valleys, additional waterproofing should be used. Such work can be done by using a special self-adhesive tape, it is called onduflash. You can buy it in stores where ondulin and other building materials are sold.

If you carry out the installation of euroslate according to the above technology, then the roof will be ready to serve for many years, declared by the manufacturer. During this period, the surface will not need to be repaired, and will also guarantee perfect tightness. If you want to choose a material for your roof, then perhaps you should also pay attention to ondulin. It wins in many ways when compared with similar materials. Among other things, it is worth considering that it is not always possible to mount the covering layer on your own, sometimes this requires the help of specialists, which cannot be said about ondulin.

Ondulin: do-it-yourself installation

If the roof of the building has lost its original attractive appearance and has ceased to be functional, then it is necessary to equip a new floor using special material for this.

Ondulin roofing is characterized by excellent performance; anyone can equip it with their own hands House master who carefully studied the rules for the construction of such a structure.

The roofing products we are interested in, often referred to as soft or euro-slate, are synthetic modern material, which additionally contains special additives. Ondulin contains distilled bitumen, cellulose, mineral pigments, special fillers, natural resins. These components give the described products for the installation of roofs of residential buildings and buildings for various purposes unique properties.

Has the following advantages:

 • light weight;
 • affordable price;
 • excellent hygienic indicators;
 • inertness to chemically aggressive compounds;
 • resistance to weathering and significant temperature changes;
 • a large selection of colors;
 • high noise absorption;
 • excellent flexibility and strength (euro-slate is not afraid of gusts of wind up to 180-190 km / h);
 • ease of integration with any engineering structures and drainage system;
 • increased resistance to abrasion during operation.

Soft ondulin for the roof

The main advantage of using the material is the ability to install ondulin with your own hands. If you have the skills to perform the simplest construction works, you will not have problems with installing soft slate. Manufacturers produce ondulin in two variations - in the form of tiles and slate. The performance characteristics of these products are exactly the same. They differ from each other only in size. Home craftsmen, equipping the roofs of their houses, usually use euro-slate. It is ideal for creating simple roofs.

Ondulin in sheets has fixed dimensions - 200x95 cm. It is very convenient to work with such products. But it is better to equip structurally complex roofs with the help of euro-tiles. In this case, the amount of material waste will be less. True, not every self-taught master will be able to properly mount a roof with many bends. To carry out such work, it would be wiser to involve professionals in the construction industry.

At self installation ondulin on the roof, you must strictly adhere to the recommendations of the manufacturers of this material. We list the most important of them below:

 1. Work on the installation of soft slate should be carried out exclusively at positive (up to +30 ° C) ambient temperatures. In emergency cases (need for urgent repairs), it is allowed to lay products at temperatures not lower than -5°. But in such situations, installation should be carried out as carefully as possible so as not to damage the soft coating.
 2. When installing ondulin, you will have to move along the roof directly on the mounted sheets of material, which can lead to deformation and damage to the products. To avoid this, in no case should you step on the recesses in the Euro-slate (they are called furrows). You need to walk strictly on the waves - on the convex parts of the soft roof.
 3. An ondulin roof is always built as an independent structure (even if you mount the euro-covering on old roofing products). It is fixed on a pre-prepared crate. The latter is made of wood - bars with dimensions of 4x6 cm.
 4. On roofs with steep slopes, the crate is equipped with a step of 60 cm. If the ondulin is mounted on a roof with a slope of 10–15 °, the distance between the individual elements of the frame is 45 cm. And in cases where the slope is less than 10 °, the installation instructions require the construction of a continuous crates.
 5. Ondulin is fastened to a wooden frame using self-tapping screws with special caps or for mounting soft products. It is recommended to use no more than 20 fasteners per sheet of euro-slate. They should be evenly distributed over the entire surface.
 6. Soft sheets must not be overstretched and rigidly fixed in this position, as they may begin to crack over time. Two or three years, and such a coating will simply collapse.
 7. It is not allowed to create four overlaps of soft slate in one corner at once. In this case, the risk of deformation of the installed products increases significantly.

Self-installation of ondulin

Also, the ondulin laying instructions draw special attention of home craftsmen to the need to strictly observe the linearity of the horizontal and vertical connections of all individual soft sheets. They should always be placed as evenly as possible, leaving a small margin for overlaps. Ideally, you should get a perfectly flat roof structure. In this case, it will reliably protect the house from precipitation and other weather phenomena.

Arrangement instructions soft roofs allows for the possibility of making small adjustments to the recommendations outlined (for example, you can change the crate step indicator). But decisions on the need for such deviations should be made by a specialist with experience with Euro-slate. It is better for self-taught masters to strictly follow the requirements of the installation manual. Then they will not have problems with the arrangement of the roof.

The instruction clearly describes the sequence of actions that you need to perform in order to get a quality roofing. First you need to decide on the number of sheets and mark them up. In cases where the roof was covered with ordinary gray slate, there are no problems with calculating the required number of euro-products. The geometric dimensions of ondulin and standard slate sheets are the same. Carry out the marking of products on the ground. Just mark with a pencil the required dimensions of the ondulin.

Arrangement of roofs from ondulin

To get a straight marking line, you can put a whole sheet of soft slate on the product to be cut. The process will go faster.

Cutting euro-slate is carried out without the slightest problem. For these purposes, a hacksaw for wood is ideal. It is advisable to lubricate the saw with grease or machine oil. Then the hacksaw will not get stuck in the ondulin. If you have an electric saw, the procedure for cutting sheets is carried out many times faster. Note that you can use hand tool, and a circular. Proceed to the installation of the crate. Do not forget that the instructions give strict recommendations on the type of frame for roofs with different angles of inclination. Clearly adhere to the required step of installing wooden blocks. The latter are fixed on the rafters. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the distance between the axes of the bars.

If you want the elements of the crate to lie horizontally really perfectly, you need to make a simple template yourself and attach it parallel to the roof eaves. This simple device will allow you to correctly (and most importantly - quickly) mount the frame for laying soft slate. Start the installation of ondulin from the roof slope to its upper part and always from the leeward side. In this case, the structure will turn out to be very strong and reliable - gusts of wind will not be able to destroy its solidity. Attach the first row of products to the rafters with nails or self-tapping screws with hats. Knock the hardware into the crest of the wave. First, fix the lower part of the soft slate, then fasten the sheet to the crossbars (transverse) battens.

Mount the second line of sheets on the previous row. Here it is important to achieve the following. The joints between the euro-slate of each subsequent row should fall clearly in the middle of the bottom sheets. You should not have vertical seams. In fact, you will perform standard brickwork. But instead of stone, it uses sheets of ondulin. The described method of mounting roofing products significantly increases the strength of the side joints, since the latter will consist of only three sheets, and not four. Lay out the rest of the rows in a similar way, nail ondulin, check the quality of your work. If everything is fine, you can begin the final finishing of the roof. More on this in the next section.

Installation and fastening of the roof ridge must be done from the leeward side. Fasteners used to fix this roof element must be driven into an additional bar wooden frame. The finishing of the chimney, the ends of the slopes, tongs, valleys and other roof elements from ondulin is carried out using special devices. They are sold together with roofing soft products. Note that the roof ribs are allowed to be carried out with the help of tongs or skates. Choose the option that you like the most.

Final work on the installation of ondulin

Among other things, it is necessary to equip high-quality ventilation of the new coating. It is installed in all waves that are paired with individual sheets of ondulin. The ventilation ducts are led out through the ventilation pipes. They, again, should be bought at the construction store where you purchased the euro-slate. The pipes are fixed with self-tapping screws in the waves. There are no problems with this operation for home craftsmen. And the upper part of the tubular products must be overlapped soft cover. Another helpful advice. Buy a special filler and lay it between the roof ridge and ondulin sheets. This will close the gaps between the indicated roof elements and thereby improve the insulation of the entire structure.

Experts recommend twice a year to carefully inspect the soft roofing. If you see that any of the structural sheets has been damaged, replace it immediately. It's easy to do. Lift the fasteners with a regular nail puller, remove the damaged sheet (very carefully) and install a new fragment in its place. You just have to drive in new hardware in order to use the reliable roofing, perfectly protecting your home from all the vagaries of nature. Note that the need for the described repair measures (if they were carried out strictly according to the instructions) is extremely rare. As a rule, a well-mounted onduline roof is operated without the slightest breakdown for 20–25 years.
