What power tool is needed for construction and repair in a private house. The most necessary power tool for the home Universal or specialized

Each home should have a certain set of tools with which all household needs will be satisfied. But before you buy a full set of tools, take a look at what you already have.

Make a list of missing items and buy what you need. You can first study the photo of tools for the home.

Men are easier in this regard than women. Perhaps it was for this purpose that a ready-made universal kit was invented. These are the so-called tool kits in a suitcase.

However, such sets do not always contain all the right tools. Therefore, it will be easier for many to purchase them separately, completing their own home kit.

Tools needed in every home

A home tool kit would not be complete without a regular hammer. There are many types of this tool on the market, with rubber, wood, etc. strikers. But in the house, the most useful thing would be a universal one - an ordinary one, a wooden handle, a metal striker.

Stores often offer the opportunity to buy keys in a set, that is different types. Several types combine adjustable wrenches. Its purpose is almost universal. However, such a key is not very convenient to use.

Repair of an apartment, and especially the construction of a house, is difficult to imagine without the use of power tools. Electric planers, chain and circular saws, woodworking machines, milling cutters, jigsaws, drills, hammer drills, screwdrivers, flat and angle grinders (grinders) and wall chasers - this is not a complete list of tools designed to provide invaluable assistance in carrying out these works.

Not all developers or home craftsmen who start repairs have their own complete tool arsenal, represented by all leading models, for example, from Bosch or Black & Decker. Usually they make an audit of the tool that is available, and buy the missing one to it.

The most common mistake in this case is the purchase of a multifunctional, universal tool, as well as insufficient attention to a number of its technical and operational parameters.

In order for the work of a newly acquired tool not to be interrupted and overshadowed by disappointment, both in the model itself and in its manufacturer, it is necessary to choose the right tool, and then use it correctly.

Most serious manufacturers work long and painstakingly on the creation of each instrument model. After careful refinement and release into mass production, all of them, as a rule, correspond to their passport parameters.

However, not all consumers follow the rules of operation, and most importantly, they do not always make the right choice of power tools.

This seemingly trivial task is actually difficult and responsible. The following are guidelines to help you choose the right power tool.

Professional - non-professional

Power tools can be professional and non-professional. Some firms, such as the aforementioned Bosch, paint different colors to enhance the difference between these two types of instrument.

A professional tool involves its long-term, sometimes even round-the-clock, use in conditions of continuous operation and heavy loads. Therefore, all its components are designed by the manufacturer for such conditions.

A non-professional tool has a weaker design of its nodes and requires breaks in work at certain intervals.

The difference in price between professional and non-professional tools is significant. Therefore, if after repair or construction there are no intentions to work in a construction team with your own tool, stop at a non-professional one.

You can also take a professional one, in the expectation that it will serve for many years and decades. Yes, it can happen and, most likely, it will, but over such a period of time, the threat of its moral obsolescence is very likely.

Power supply

There are two types of power supply for a household tool - from an AC mains or from a battery built into the body of the tool.

When purchasing a tool for an AC network, you need to make sure that it is safe (see below), and if it is imported, then whether it is certified for use in our networks.

It is advisable to buy a battery-powered tool only if regular work is to be done on non-electric objects.

This tool, of course, is somewhat convenient - there is no connection to a power source, no wires are needed, which often interfere with hard-to-reach places. With it, you can go to the yard to the car or to the garage. But this tool also has a number of negative qualities.

Firstly, the short duration of work between recharging. Secondly, many batteries require its constant use. This tool cannot be left unused for years - the battery can fail, and replacing it will cost about a third of the cost of the tool itself, and sometimes more. And finally, battery-powered tools are quite expensive.

Safety

A power tool connected to a 220 V AC mains must have reliable electrical protection.

Otherwise, it can become a source of not only a serious current shock with serious consequences, but also a current shock with a tragic outcome.

Most manufacturers have a special double insulation symbol on the tool. It is a double square, executed in various graphic design. One of these designs is shown in the figure.

Double insulation is two levels of protection against electric shock. The first level of insulation is done on all electrical components of the structure. The second level isolates all body elements of the tool. Double insulated tools can be connected to the mains using a two-wire circuit - a two-prong plug into an ungrounded socket. You should buy a tool only with double insulation. Preference should also be given to models with special protection against accidental start. This protection usually consists in the fact that permission to press the main trigger button is confirmed by pressing another additional button.

Versatility

Many manufacturers strive to make their power tools, especially drills, multifunctional. Such a tool, in addition to the main function, can perform several additional ones. The market offers many models of drills that can drill, cut threads, work with screws, and besides, they can drill with impact, i.e. act as a perforator. Such a tool is more suitable for a small amount of work or for use as a "duty" in household- in case you need to correct something or make it on your own.

Some tool suppliers go even further - they offer a kit that includes a drill as the main power module and several attachments for it: a planer, an angle grinder, a circular saw, a jigsaw, etc. Such a set is usually made out in the form of a suitcase "For the master". If the drill is also equipped with a hammer drill function, then at first glance such a set covers all requests.

You should not stop your choice on such sets. It must be remembered that each operation has its own peculiarity, it requires its own power, tool revolutions and duration of work. Working the tool with overload or at the limit of its capabilities leads to its failure.

A good universal tool does not exist in nature. In a good way - a drill should only drill, a puncher should only punch, and a screwdriver should only wrap screws.

Choose an instrument with additional features is possible only if their application is from 15 to 20% of the estimated scope of work.

Design features

Except pleasant appearance power tools should be comfortable and as light as possible.

At the same time, when choosing between a tool with a gearbox made of aluminum alloy and a tool with a gear box made of impact-resistant plastic, it is better to stay on an aluminum box, although this model may turn out to be a little heavier.

The service life of such a gearbox is longer, and the probability of damage by accidental external influences is negligible.

The body of the tool must be ergonomic, i.e. comfortable to hold and operate the shape of the body, and the controls should be easily accessible.

If the tool is equipped with an additional casing, then its design must be securely fastened and should not create situations in which the user will be forced to remove it at least temporarily.

Important "little things"

For some types of tools, two devices can be called absolutely necessary - a maximum speed controller and a soft starter. With a soft starter, the tool can smoothly pick up speed in proportion to the depth of pressing the start button.

One major detail is the torque limit clutch, which protects the tool's electric motor from unacceptable loads and increases its service life. The most common situation for creating an unacceptable load, for example for a drill, is the jamming of the drill at the time of drilling.

Another significant detail is the presence of reverse rotation. This property will be especially useful for drills. Without a reverse, it is impossible to cut a thread or turn out a screw. And if the drill has a reverse, then one more device is absolutely necessary - a rotation speed regulator.

If a powerful and heavy tool is purchased, then it is desirable to have an inrush current limiter in it. Such a tool gains momentum more smoothly, does not "twitch" in the hands and does not create an unnecessary load on the power grid.

For tools with a lot of dust ( grinding machines, jigsaws, planers, cutters) it is desirable to have an adapter - a special branch pipe on the tool body, with which you can connect a vacuum cleaner.

Selecting a specific product

If the model of the power tool is selected and it meets all the requirements, then you should proceed to the selection of a specific product.

You do not need to take the first product offered by the seller - this way you can buy tools only from leading manufacturers who have well-established both technology and output control.

Run several test runs on two or three products. The purpose of these inclusions is to determine the assembly quality of the power units of the tool. With their help, you can make important conclusions about how the gearbox is assembled, how the main pair of gears (grinders) is selected, whether the bearing assemblies are overtightened, etc.

Switch on the products offered in succession and compare their level and noise patterns. For a more qualitatively assembled product, the noise should be even, without dips and subsequent amplifications, without knocks transmitted to the body of the product.

But the product selected for the most even noise must be subjected to another test. Turn it on and after a set of maximum speeds, turn it off. Notice how it stops. The reduction in speed should be smooth, gradual. With the engine off, at the last stages of stopping the product, the noise of all nodes and gears is clearly audible.

The product must not stop in its tracks or close to it. If this happens, then something is wrong in it - the bearing assemblies are overtightened, there is no necessary clearance in the gearing, the electric motor has a poor "run-out" and many more things that can be specifically discussed only knowing the design of the product. In such a product, a large amount of energy is spent on overcoming rotational resistance and its electric motor will quickly overheat, and the probability of its failure is quite high. In this case, you need to repeat the entire selection of the product from the beginning.

If the product stops smoothly, and individual rare knocks do not appear in the noise of the rotating mechanism, this is what you need. Successful work!

So, let's say that you have finally finished making repairs and now the task is to leave at home only those hand-held power tools for homework that can be useful in Everyday life. In general, you can generally do without power tools if everything has already been done on a turnkey basis. But still, let's go through the most popular electric building units and try to understand whether they will be useful for us to complete typical tasks"man in the house"

screwdriver

As practice and feedback from users of building communities and forums show, it will be almost impossible to live without a screwdriver. And this is not surprising - after all, you always need to screw something up somewhere, redo it, or move it to another place. Often, an ordinary screwdriver will also cope with these tasks, but we are used to saving our own time, and it’s not in vain that progress is stepping forward: it’s time to get used to comfort.

What is important to know when choosing

  • Choose the right bits for all the slots found in your home;
  • For the house, a corded screwdriver is also quite suitable, but if you don’t want to run around with carriers, unravel the wires, it’s better to use a cordless one;

Impact drill or hammer drill

The walls in our apartments are most often made of bricks or blocks, and the ceilings are made of concrete floors, so it is important to have a percussion instrument. Well, its use is quite understandable: hang a picture, a shelf or a mirror, as well as outweigh what was done during the repair fuss contrary to the rules of the interior. There are also three-mode rotary hammers: drilling, impact drilling, slotting. Universal tools that replace several others are popular among home craftsmen.

What is important to know when choosing

  • Pick the right drills, remember that for concrete you need victorious ones. The most popular sizes of drills: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10mm, we recommend that you purchase them in a set, where they are packed in a convenient case. So the drills will not be lost and will be convenient to use;
  • Take care of your neighbors. Remember that a neighbor with a puncher is the embodiment of hell on Earth, do not make enemies for yourself. Operate the hammer during reasonable hours and not daily;
  • It may be worth getting a mixing attachment in case you are thinking of a small local refurbishment of the repair.

Screwdriver

It will help to assemble / disassemble a computer, change or repair an outlet with a switch. Again, it is replaced by a set of screwdrivers, but here it’s convenient for anyone.

What is important to know when choosing

  • Choose the right bits. You may need small bits for spot work;

electric grinder

For those who like to “correctly” sharpen a knife and those who do not want to mess with whetstone An electric grinder will do just fine to save time.

What is important to know when choosing

  • Protect yourself and environment from sparks arising in the process of working with this tool;

grinder

If the floors are wooden, then this tool may fit and even be quite popular. But in general, its necessity seems doubtful. In a country house, if there are stairs, a wooden floor in a bath can become an indispensable assistant.

construction vacuum cleaner

If you are often going to make or remake something in a house or apartment, construction vacuum cleaner can help in one of the most disliked procedures of the builder - cleaning after work. An ordinary vacuum cleaner will not cope with a large amount of construction debris and quickly become clogged, but a construction vacuum cleaner will suck up all the waste from your production with pleasure.

chain saw

In a country house with a bath, it will help with the quick preparation of firewood. Also with its help it is possible to work on a site with thick trees.

reciprocating saw

In an apartment, it is unlikely that you will be able to find a use for this tool, but in a suburban garden plot suitable for trimming branches and local installation work with wood, pipes.

Angle grinder (Bulgarian)

Considering how versatile this tool is, which can cut, grind and replace a wall chaser, perhaps a 125 mm angle grinder. will definitely come in handy on the farm.

Multifunctional tool (renovator)

Until now, disputes about this tool have not subsided: someone considers it indispensable in view of its versatility, someone insists on its unprofessionalism and inefficiency. However, we recommend that you at least take a closer look at such tools, because for rare non-global works, the renovator can be very useful, while not taking up much space. And given the possibility of expanding its functionality by purchasing additional nozzles and a fairly affordable price, the purchase of this universal tool is becoming more and more tempting. The Bosch Gop and Black & Decker Multievo models are popular, primarily due to the rich set of features out of the box.

Multievo promises to replace 10 tools:

  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • grinder;
  • mini-disc saw for wood, chipboard, MDF and laminate;
  • oscillating tool (cuts into wood and drywall);
  • milling cutter;
  • screwdriver (included are nozzle bits);
  • trimer garden;
  • perforator;
  • pump with pressure gauge;

Just do not try to make repairs completely exclusively with this tool, because the hammer attachment will never give the functionality, power and efficiency that a classic electric hammer with one function (and sometimes several speed modes) has.
But for small tweaks it will do. And considering that all this will fit in one case and will not get lost around the apartment or country house- very tempting.

  • do not buy bad and cheap power tools for the home. Give preference to value for money. An expensive brand is not always good, and among unknown manufacturers you can find quite high-quality devices;
  • Don't forget about quality. A tool without consumables will lie idle;
  • Purchase protective equipment and boxes or cases for easy storage.

Today we will talk about the difficulties that may arise when buying an electric tool. We will learn how to accurately identify a fake, find "our" supplier, determine an effective procedure, how to preparatory stage and directly in the store. In general, we will focus on those points that, for various reasons, were not included in other articles.

Specifications. Learning to read a passport

The last point of our theoretical preparation will be the determination of the necessary technical parameters. The main question: where to get information? There are two options: either on the official website of the manufacturer, or from the user manual. Option three (product description in a web store) is erroneous, since few merchants bother to search for absolutely reliable information and check the printed text. Finding a competent and honest consultant is even more difficult.

So, what do we need to know to make a list of contenders for the purchase? Usually we look at the power of the product, its speed (the number of revolutions or strokes per unit of time), torque - all this is good, but the performance indicators (depth of processing) look much more eloquent for various materials or the value of the maximum allowable snap.

The next point is the duration of continuous work. As we have already said, the application coefficient is the main indicator of the "professionalism", endurance of the unit. Indeed, is there any sense in a super-powerful motor, if after five minutes of loaded work the tool must “smoke” for 10 minutes (even this happens). There are extremely vague wordings such as "for continuous work" or "the tool can be operated for an 8-hour shift, but not more than 240 minutes per day." Some manufacturers are delicately silent about the operating modes at all. Obviously, their tool is a pig in a poke.

Periodicity Maintenance. This moment is not always indicated in the documentation, since specific terms directly depend on the loads on the tool. However, if you are told that after three dozen hours of work in the car it is necessary to replace the internal lubricant, then it turns out that with four hours of work a day, once a week you will have to go to the maintenance service. Be sure to pay attention to the frequency of replacing the brushes, more precisely, to their average (because it depends on the load) service life. According to Feng Shui right tool designed so that when the brushes are produced, then the time comes to do a full-scale maintenance.

Do not lose sight of any operating restrictions (permissible loads, dust content, humidity, temperatures, vibrations, noise ...) prescribed for the unit in the passport - the more there are, the less reliable and safe the device is in front of you. This applies only to a branded instrument, in the manuals for "noname" models, they usually talk about unconditional versatility. It happens the other way around, young brands offer the consumer to carefully monitor their tool: periodically disassemble the body to replace wear parts and brushes, to clean the collector from copper oxides, etc., etc. It is clear that we will have to look for their service, since seals must not be touched during the warranty period. Imagine a cordless screwdriver, which cannot be operated at temperatures below zero, or a grinder designed for indoor use only.

What does the price say

If we leave behind counterfeit and uncertified tools, it will become obvious that units of the same class (with similar performance characteristics) cost about the same. That is, the cheaper the model, the simpler it is, perhaps intended for non-commercial use. True, there are pleasant exceptions, for example, if an authorized outlet decided to quickly get rid of a certain amount of goods, for example, to free up funds for the purchase of a new batch. Do not be afraid of promotions and special offers, provided that the seller is not in doubt. We also note that large stores with a large turnover and direct deliveries can afford to slightly reduce the retail price. Moreover, on the periphery, the cost of tools and especially equipment and consumables is much higher. Some auxiliary elements seriously affect the money issue - cases and useful devices, additional attachments and batteries, fast charging device, replaceable cartridges, factory lubrication. Sometimes it’s more logical to buy a “naked” device and equip it with really necessary things.

Conducting field trials

So, we were well prepared theoretically, and even chose several models from the catalogs, which, in our opinion, will cope with the tasks. Now they should be tested in reality. Ask the seller to remove the product from the packaging and allow you to power the tool.

Listen to his work, the noise should be moderate and monotonous, without jerks and failures. It is especially useful to listen to the mechanics after a shutdown, when everything is moving by inertia. The louder the instrument, the worse it is assembled. Strong noises can indicate poor lubrication, poor quality bearings, lack of balance.

Drive the unit at low speed and evaluate the spindle runout, stem deviation. Ask for a rig and do the same with it. Pay attention to how quickly the equipment stops after turning off the power (if the model is not equipped with an electrodynamic brake). An abrupt stop indicates a problematic build.

Load the tool in different modes, this is how you can understand the true power of the unit, the quality of the work performed. In official outlets, they usually allow you to test the tool in action, you will be provided with a workpiece, equipment and a specially designated place without any problems.

Check how they work auxiliary systems and options, buttons and switches. Feel the force of the air flow cooling the motor, sometimes there is no “wind” at all.

One point: whatever you choose, only compare classmates with similar characteristics.

If the sea trials were successful, you can proceed to a surface inspection:

  1. Evaluate the ergonomics of the tool - the convenience of handles, dimensions, layout, accessibility of controls.
  2. Pay attention to how quickly the equipment changes, how securely it is fixed.
  3. "Shake" the car, focus on its balance.
  4. Weigh the tool with your hands. Be careful. A small mass is, on the one hand, a plus, but, on the other hand, it can indicate a small number of metal parts. Therefore, we compare only direct competitors in the class.
  5. Consider the power cord. It must be securely fixed in the tool, have a long protective sleeve at the inlet and an undoubted cross section (thickness). The length of the supply cable less than 3 meters is not unreasonably considered bad manners. The exception is chain saws.
  6. Carefully inspect the body for mechanical damage (chips, cracks, grease leaks, abrasions, traces of opening). Many of them can be the reason for the denial of warranty repairs. Others may mean the fact that the unit was in use (for example, for the needs of the store) or was returned to the outlet, was repaired. If in doubt, ask for another copy.
  7. Look for signs of corrosion on the metal parts - this is a sign of improper storage.
  8. Collect all auxiliary elements: limiters, soles, guides. Everything should be securely and accurately fixed, without bending, tapping, upgrading.
  9. Check all elements of the unit for play. The fewer of them, the better quality product you hold in your hands.

Making the right purchase

Before heading home, being happy owner new device, you need to take a few more small steps. First, we check the completeness of the package (we simply compare the contents of the case with the corresponding list from the manual). Secondly, we control the correctness of filling out the warranty card:

  • full name of the instrument;
  • catalog number and serial number (check the nameplate);
  • number of the cash receipt (it is better to attach the check to the passport immediately);
  • living stamp of a trade organization;
  • Date of sale;
  • seller's name and signature.

Now you can relax, at this stage you have done everything you could. If you are a novice user, do not rush to immediately destroy and mount, first read the rules for safe work with power tools, as well as the basic nuances for correct operation - we just discussed these issues in detail in past articles. We wish you successful work.

Tools are not a luxury, but a necessity. If this thesis is obvious to you, read on - this article is for you.

Who is this article for?

For a man with hands. For the owner of the house. For a lover to craft and enjoy both the result and the process. If you have come to the idea of acquiring your own tools and are thinking about choosing the right ones, I can help you.

Choosing the right tools is a task that does not have simple solution. Lots of tools. They differ in purpose, quality and price. In mathematics, an equation with three unknowns always has many solutions. And all you need is yours.

I've been a repairman for over 20 years. During this time, he thoroughly mastered several specialties. Many times I bought instruments for myself, even more often prompted others, answered tricky questions. Imagine now that you are asking and I am answering. There is no reason for me to lie or compose. My advice is my advice. Another master may have a completely different view of the subject.

About quality and fakes

All further considerations refer only to quality products. Quality means that the tool:

  • Corresponds to the declared characteristics.
  • It does not require modifications to start using it.
  • It will work out the expected service life, and will not break after 10 minutes of operation.

Buying a quality tool is a combination right choice and good luck. You can choose a very reliable model, but the copy you got will turn out to be defective. Bad luck. The fact that “according to statistics” the chosen model is reliable does not make it easier for you.

A few words about "fakes". A power tool is a complex product, it cannot be made in an underground workshop. Another thing is warranty and repair. Official suppliers and "gray" dealers have very different views on these issues. The main guiding document here is the Consumer Rights Protection Law. Read, study and use to your advantage.

Let's agree that all further considerations imply a "qualitative" tool exactly in the sense that I mentioned above.

The main secret...

…purchasing a tool that you will be satisfied with is the correct answer to the only question “WHY?”

The fact is that bad the instrument does not exist. There is a tool incorrectly chosen. You will not scold the microscope for the fact that it is inconvenient for them to hammer in nails? - That's it. Everything that I will tell you next should help you deal with this main question: for what purpose do you need power tools.

Household or professional

Strictly speaking, tools are divided not into two, but into three categories: household (amateur), professional and industrial.

household tool

Beautiful, small, inexpensive. Very often, such a tool is equipped with several working nozzles so that the buyer can immediately try it out in action.

Low power does not allow you to work quickly and with large-sized workpieces. A simplified design does not provide high accuracy (for example, the cutting accuracy of a circular saw). But for home master all this is unimportant: there is nowhere to rush, and he does not aim at large projects.

It's stupid to spend household tool big money. In the end, most of the time he gathers dust in the far corner of the mezzanine.

professional tool

This is already a means of production. The master earns money with his help, he helps to solve the task quickly and efficiently. He is obliged to serve for years and give confidence that he will not die suddenly in the midst of the execution of the order.

Professional tool allows you to work long time nonstop. Household in such situations overheats.

For a professional, short-lived "gadgets" do not pay for themselves: you save hundreds, you lose thousands. The more specialized the master, the more expensive his tools. This is justified: filigree work costs more; time is also money.

It is impossible to draw a clear line between household and professional tools. Yes, and it is not necessary.

Universal or specialized

I often hear the statement: "A universal tool cannot be of high quality." - Nonsense!

First, there are not so many highly specialized tools. For example, a thermal gun, planer, tile cutter. The most requested tools are always multifunctional. A perforator can not only drill holes in concrete, but also knead the plaster, and tighten the screw if necessary, and hammer in the nail. What to say about electric jigsaw: saws anything, there would be a suitable file.

Secondly, it is often more convenient and more profitable to have combined devices. A small drill with a reverser and a keyless chuck is good both as a drill and as a screwdriver. The universal sawing machine successfully replaces two at once: a miter saw for cross cutting and a circular saw for longitudinal sawing. Less pay, easier to wear.

Battery or mains

It is very convenient - not to carry a power cord with you, not to get confused in extension cords, to drill, saw, craft where there are no sockets at all.

But there is a price to pay for everything good in life. Batteries also make up the bill of the shortcomings. And very long:

  • They are not enough for a long time, but you still have to charge from the network.
  • It takes time to recharge. And this is fraught with downtime.
  • The battery life is short: two, maybe three years. New ones need to be looked for and they are expensive (comparable to the price of the entire tool).
  • Battery models often weigh more than their mains counterparts, but they can do less.
  • Battery-powered tools with good parameters are expensive.

However, in many situations, the benefits of batteries outweigh.

Options: soft start, speed control, reverse

Even models that are very similar in characteristics may differ in certain “chips”. The usefulness of some of them is obvious, others are worth explaining.

Reverse

The reverse allows you to change the direction of rotation of the electric motor, which is absolutely necessary for some tools. A drill without a reverse can never be used as a screwdriver. It is difficult to free a jammed nozzle of a perforator without a reverse.

Speed control

Another option that greatly expands the capabilities of power tools. A drill, a screwdriver, a jigsaw, and even an angle grinder with speed control are much more convenient to use than their counterparts with unregulated speed.

But with the speed control, not everything is so obvious. It is very important how it is implemented. It can be a separate regulator somewhere on the body of the device, which actually sets the speed. Or a regulator built into the start button. In this case, the speed is controlled by pressing the trigger. The speed of the electric motor can be changed directly "on the go".

Smooth start

This feature is rare in power tools. Usually professional. The benefits of soft start come in two situations:

  1. If you have to power the tool from a portable generator. Conventional tools have a very high starting current. This overloads the generator and may cause it to stop. For models with soft start, the starting current is limited.
  2. At the moment of start, when the electric motor spins up from zero to operating speed in a fraction of a second, the recoil makes the device twitch in the operator's hands. This harms the accuracy of the work. With soft start tools, recoil is kept to a minimum.

What else you need to consider in order to choose the right power tool

Storage and transportation

Once I needed a pendulum saw with a broach in my work. I compared for a long time, read reviews, figured out which parameters are more important to me. Chose. Ordered and went to the store to pick up.

The surprise was unpleasant: a box with a freshly bought saw did not fit in the trunk of my car and hardly climbed into back door. The packaging could be thrown away immediately, but storing such a machine without packaging is also a problem.

Moral of this fable. Think about how you will store the tools until they are needed. Many tools come with handy carrying cases. But having a hundred suitcases is also inconvenient. It is easier to keep a small mounting drill in the same drawer with hand tools than in a separate case.

Durability and price

The budget, even big, is always limited. We try to buy things "for longer", with a large resource and rich functionality. And we pay extra for it. Is it always justified?

How many times have you bought a thing that has been used a couple of times and which then lies idle for many years. And it’s a pity to throw it away (an expensive thing!) And there is no need for it and is not expected.

For one-time work, you need a “one-time” tool. Professional craftsmen verified this in practice. To repair an apartment, it is more profitable to buy an inexpensive grinder. During the time of work at the facility, it will almost completely exhaust its resource. In the end, it is easier to throw it away, and buy another one for a new object.

Sets by type of work (renovation of an apartment, woodwork, metal work, etc.)

To choose the right tools, you need to think about a lot. The reader's head is already spinning. You can go from the other end and pick up suitable option from " ready-made solutions". For example, from these.

For the owner of a city apartment

We go from possible tasks and emerging problems. Drill a hole to hang a new locker, repair something from furniture. It is useful to have three tools:

  • Household with a set of drills from 6 to 12 mm.
  • Cordless drill with mains power, with reverse and quick-release chuck. A set of drills and bits.
  • A simple electric jigsaw. A set of files 4-6 pieces for various materials.

For a summer residence or a wooden country house

In the country there is always something to put your hands on. The work is mainly related to wood, so the tools are needed primarily for wood. I will list some of the most necessary in descending order of demand:

  • Hand circular saw.
  • with a good platform, speed control and swap mode.
  • Powerful electric drill. Adjustable speed, reverse, good chuck for large diameter drills.
  • Grinder. Knives, axes, chisels, drills require frequent sharpening. Otherwise, working with them will turn into torture.
  • Chain Saw.
  • Pendulum saw. The disk diameter and functionality should be as large as the budget allows.

If woodworking is your hobby

Tools become relevant for you to “make it beautiful”. You can not do without a variety of saws - see above. And also required tools for fine finishing:

  • Electric planer. The most important characteristic is mass. The lighter the tool, the more convenient it is.
  • Grinders: belt and surface grinders.
  • Frazier. With it, your products will reach a completely new “beauty level”. Do not chase after a cool fancy router model. It is better to spend this money on equipment.

Sets or all individually

On sale you can find sets: a drill, a jigsaw and a grinder in one suitcase. Or similar. There are also drills, saws and bits in special cells. It seems to be very convenient.

In fact, these all-in-one kits are monstrously low quality. Tools in them do not pull even on "disposable". Such a set is good only for a gift to the enemy.

Each tool must be selected separately. The kits don't work.

  • A drill will not drill without a drill, a jigsaw will not cut without a file. Choosing the right tool is just as important as choosing the right tool.

  • Tools, even the best ones, don't work on their own. Skills and the right methods of work are indispensable.
  • Any mechanism needs care and maintenance. Periodic cleaning and lubrication prolongs tool life and keeps tools at peak performance.

Beware of incompetent sellers!

The real "bottleneck" in the purchase of a tool is the seller in the store. Remember for yourself: you came to buy one thing, but then the seller powdered your brains and you take away something completely different from the store.

A good seller solves your problem first, second, and third.

Conclusion

I hope I convinced you that choosing a power tool is a difficult task. But also very grateful. The right tool is easy and pleasant to use. Try it and see for yourself!
