Growing strawberries on a pyramid. Strawberry beds - the most modern, easy to build and effective forms of "pots" How to make a pyramid for strawberries from boards

The pyramidal design facilitates the cultivation of ampelous varieties of berries. Even in a small area, a do-it-yourself pyramid for strawberries is easily placed. It is organized at the end of the autumn season or in early spring. The design is convenient, transportable, provides an attractive view of the garden area and makes it possible to enjoy juicy fruits.

Vertical Growing: Benefits

The method of planting strawberries with a pyramid is referred to as vertical cultivation. Bushes are planted one above the other, this option is convenient both in open areas and in greenhouses. Gardeners name several advantages of growing a crop in a triangular design:

On the pyramidal structure, a place is arranged for the growth of remontant varieties. They are distinguished by repeated flowering and uneven ripening of berries. The tiered form is convenient for planting ampelous plants, they are beautifully woven.

Arrangement of the beds

Actual option for gardeners and summer residents - wooden model. Before you make a pyramid for strawberries, stock up on everything you need:

  • Quality wood planks. The wood cut according to the drawings is impregnated with drying oil, sanded and varnished. You can not use chemical compounds, because they are absorbed into the soil, violate taste qualities berries.
  • Medium sized nails (from 20 to 50 mm).
  • Hammer.
  • Level.
  • Plane.
  • Asbestos-cement or PVC pipe with holes 10 mm in diameter at the top and 5 mm in diameter at the bottom.
  • A mixture of earth and sand to fill the frame.

On initial stage for the manufacture of a structure, it is necessary to establish its dimensions. Standard sizes pyramids for strawberries are as follows:

  • 240x240 cm - chain-link mesh;
  • 220x220x25 cm - the first tier of the box;
  • 170x170x25 cm - the second tier;
  • 120x120x23 cm - the third;
  • 70x70x25 cm - fourth;
  • 20x20x25 cm - the last tier.

The frame in which the culture will be grown is done as follows:

  1. The place for the beds is determined. One of its sides should be directed to the north.
  2. The base of the pyramid is laid out - a chain-link mesh.
  3. The first tier of the box is placed on it. The edge of the wooden planks must be rounded with a planer. This prevents cutting of the shoots of the plant on the edges.
  4. The sand-earth mixture is poured. The optimal layer for the growth of bushes is 15 cm.
  5. A pipe made of asbestos cement or PVC with holes is placed in the center of the structure. The end, which plays the role of the bottom, is hermetically closed.
  6. The compost is laid. It is best to do this with a slide, and then be sure to tamp. Further care for compost means its regular moistening.
  7. By analogy, the remaining tiers are mounted. Everyone falls asleep with prepared soil.

After shrinkage of the soil, bushes are planted. It starts from the lower tier and is carried out according to a certain scheme. On each side of the first tier - 7 bushes, the second - 5, the third - 3, the fourth - 3, on the top - 2 at the base of the pipe.

Water and feed the crop preferably through the top of the pipe.

Custom designs

1. Tires.

An unusual flower bed for strawberries is made of wheel tires. The design has smaller dimensions compared to a wooden box, but a greater height.

What you need for work:

  • Tires of various sizes. For the first tier, the tire of the DON-1500 combine or the Case tractor is suitable, which do not have a box, but rather dense rubber. The second tier means a tire from MAZ, the third one from GAZ, and the last one from an ordinary car.
  • Wooden block.
  • A mixture of soil with compost.

The metal cord of the tire rim acts as a frame. A pyramid for strawberries from tires is organized as follows:

  1. The land for the bed is being prepared: it is cleared of stones and leveled. A hole is being dug. Its dimensions correspond to half the height of the largest tire and its full diameter.
  2. The top is cut from the largest tire. The rest is buried in the ground. The soil around it must be compacted and distributed on all sides. Approximately 2 cm of expanded clay drainage and compost are poured over the tire. The mixture is slightly moistened.
  3. The following tires are cut in the same way and stacked on top of each other. The height of the structure should not be more than 150 cm, because it may fall apart due to precipitation.

Planting is carried out in the spring. Bushes are distributed over the entire circumference of the tires. Holes are made at a distance of 10 cm, strawberries should be fertilized, covered with earth and watered.

Growing strawberries in tires requires attention. When watering, the tires should not stagnate with water. Shrubs are best watered little by little, but often.

2. Construction bags.

Another way to create a pyramid for strawberries is flower beds from ordinary plastic bags. The beds are compact in size and easy to create. You will need the following materials:

The work is carried out in several stages:

  1. Rectangles are cut in the form of vertical pockets with seam allowances of 1.5–3 cm.
  2. The cut polyethylene is sewn together. You can attach a handle to it that will withstand the weight of the soil and seedlings.
  3. Each of the pockets is filled with prepared soil.
  4. If the design is made in the shape of a triangle, several tiers can be made. On the bottom - 5 pockets, and in each subsequent row - one less.
  5. The culture is planted.

Further care of the plants consists in their regular watering with a small amount of water and fertilizer. Polyethylene bed not very practical, and it will have to be done annually.

3. Metal pipes.

This option for growing strawberries with a pyramid is suitable for thrifty farmers. You will need the most common metal pipe. Designs allow you to place up to 200 strawberry bushes in a space of 1 square meter. In the flower bed, you can plant ampelous varieties with medium-sized berries. Method with metal pipes- practical and has a lot of benefits:

  • Save water for irrigation. The system of its supply is organized in the frame itself. Moisture descends gradually and saturates the roots of the culture.
  • Easier to clear weeds. The soil is hidden from the direct rays of the sun, and weeds practically do not grow. Sprouted shoots are removed manually.
  • Save space and beautiful appearance.

Pipes can be placed horizontally in the form of a pyramid or arranged vertically, like a maze. Having covered them with bright paint, the owners will receive a stylish decor of the territory.

To make beds from pipes, you need:

  1. Cut holes in metal with a saw. Near them, weld a kind of "porch" of thin plates. In the future, leaves and fruits will be distributed along them, which will reduce the load on the roots of plants.
  2. A pipe with planted bushes is installed in the soil.
  3. It is important to organize the fastening of the structure. Gardeners recommend concreting the base or attaching it to a support with a wire.

It is worth watering and fertilizing the culture regularly.

Use and decor

If you are thinking about how to plant strawberries in a pyramid, follow the advice of landscape designers. They suggest using ordinary containers and arranging them in the form of a cone, triangle or pyramid.

  • Several pipes or barrels of various diameters are cut into pieces and installed according to the principle of tires. It is necessary to make side holes in them and fix the irrigation system.
  • Boxes. Will create interesting view Location on. Install the boxes on top of each other and be sure to secure.
  • Plastic bottles. Two-liter containers are attached to the wall in the shape of a pyramid with ropes. One bush is placed in one vessel.
  • Flower pots. They look more aesthetically pleasing than bottles. They are fastened with special trellises or placed on stands in the form of triangles.

A pyramid is a garden bed rising above the ground, which allows you to significantly save garden space by placing a large number of strawberry bushes (strawberries) on it. This form makes it easy to harvest, water the berries and, most importantly, does not obscure the light to the lower levels.

Step by step construction

A pyramid-bed can be three, or quadrangular. It is quite easy to build such a structure on your own. Depending on the possibilities, metal is used for such a bed, wooden planks or hard plastic. The most convenient use of wooden boards.

Having decided to make a garden pyramid for strawberries with your own hands, the drawings are thought out in advance. They first draw the most suitable design, determine the correct dimensions, make appropriate sketches, diagrams and make necessary material for construction.

Pyramid for strawberries

Step by step instruction:

  1. The site for the construction of the beds is chosen unshaded, open (away from tall trees, buildings), always with a leveled surface.
  2. Initially, the base of the bed is prepared - the grid is placed on the site where the future structure will stand. The grid can be metal, plastic, fine mesh. It will protect the structure from small rodents.
  3. Prepared boards are connected (knocked down) with glue, nails, metal corners or screws into boxes. It turns out five pieces. The connections must be strong, otherwise the design will be short-lived.
  4. The upper corners of the joints are smoothed with a planer to avoid injury to the berry.
  5. The lowest, fundamental tier of the ridge is installed on the prepared base, a vertical pipe (PVC, sewer) is fixed in the center of the pyramid, in which irrigation holes are made in advance, and a plug is placed on the bottom. Then the step of the beds is filled with earth, lightly tamped, leaving at least 4-6 cm to the edges, so that it is possible to feed the berries.
  6. A mixture of compost and manure is poured around the pipe in the form of a cone-shaped slide to feed the plants.
  7. Then a second, slightly smaller tier is placed on top of the lower one, filled with prepared soil in the same order. The procedure with tiers is repeated until the construction of the pyramid-bed is completely constructed.
  8. Planting a berry. For a design of this size, 70 seedlings are optimal. Planting strawberries in tiers begins with the lower steps of the beds. Planted on each side: 1 row - 7 each, 2 row - 5 each, 3 - 3 each, 4 - 2 and on the last - two seedlings.

Depending on the desire and possibilities, a pyramidal flower bed for strawberries can contain from 3 to 9 tiers. The main thing to consider is that each subsequent floor is 30-35 cm less than the previous one on each side.

The specified five-tiered garden pyramid for strawberries has the following dimensions:

  • 1) the first level - 2.2 * 2.2 meters;
  • 2) the second level - 1.7 * 1.7 meters;
  • 3) the third level - 1.2 * 1.2 meters;
  • 4) fourth - 0.7 * 0.7 meters;
  • 5) fifth - 0.2 * 0.2 meters;
  • 6) mesh - 2.4 * 2.4 meters;
  • 7) the width of each board is 0.25 meters.

The optimal width of the boards is 3-5 cm, the lowest, base box can be made from thicker ones. The completed construction is painted, whitewashed, decorated at the discretion, making the garden even more comfortable and beautiful.

By the way, you can make a multi-tiered flower bed for strawberries with your own hands, even from ordinary tires. The tops of the tires are cut off, for convenience they are used electric jigsaw. The main thing is to observe the proportions of the beds: the first tire is the largest (from heavy vehicles), then their gradual reduction. The ground layer must be wide enough for planting strawberry bushes.

On a note. You can use boxes, flower pots, barrels or even basins. Now they are already selling ready-made longline beds in special stores.

Materials needed for construction

To arrange such a garden you will need:

  • the main material from which the construction of the beds will be made: boards, metal, plastic;
  • fixing material (medium-sized nails - 0.2-0.5 cm, or self-tapping screws);
  • spirit level (building level);
  • tape measure, meter;
  • screwdriver;
  • plane;
  • pipe;
  • drying oil, varnish;
  • prepared soil for filling the ridge, a shovel.

There are no specific restrictions on the choice of material and tools; anything can be used to build such a strawberry garden: logs, slate or polycarbonate, rectangular chest of drawers, containers, old barrels.

Features of strawberry care

Pyramid

There are no special requirements for how to grow strawberries in tiered boxes, the main concern is watering.

Planting material is planted in the ridge from the beginning of March to the end of July. In exceptional situations, planting is possible until September, but then it is necessary to provide seedlings with protection from frost. Do not recommend planting bushes too close.

When growing a crop in such vertical beds, pay attention to some of the nuances:

  1. Before planting, the soil is well supplied with manure (chernozem), peat and sand, in proportions 2/1/1, fed mineral fertilizers, dolomite flour, wood ash or chalk;
  2. Strawberry seedlings are planted 1-2 weeks after laying the soil, so that it has enough time to compact and soak with moisture;
  3. Any varieties are used, of any ripening time, preference is given to berries with a low above-ground part, since strawberries with powerful tops require a more sparse planting, respectively, the number of plants at each stage will be much less. Remontant varieties look colorful - they can decorate the garden all summer with delicate flowers and bright berries.
  4. Strawberry seedlings must have a strong root system, the root neck is placed at ground level;
  5. Culture prefers sunny places, protected from the winds, the ideal option is the southeastern part of the garden.

Watering

Watering should be regular, since the territory is already quite limited, and strawberries do not tolerate a lack of moisture. The use of a drip irrigation system is optimal; mulch is used to preserve moisture. Irrigation is carried out in the mornings or evenings, under a bush, avoiding contact with leaves and berries. On hot days, water 3-5 times a week, on cool days - less. Use only clean, warm water. You can not water strawberries directly from the well, the water must be infused.

Loosening the soil and weeding strawberries

Throughout the season, systematic loosening of the soil is carried out. Weed removal should also be regular.

top dressing

They are enough for strawberries 3 times per season: in spring, during the formation of ovaries and after harvest. Mandatory presence of phosphorus, nitrogen, magnesium and potassium.

Quality care is essential

Shelter for the winter

In this regard, the garden bed needs enough good insulation otherwise the strawberry roots will die. If possible the best option the bed will be transferred to a sheltered room, if this is not possible, the structure is dug in with earth, covered with spruce branches or hay.

Low pyramids can be equipped with a special structure made of thin boards, slats and roofing felt (burlap, lutrasil). The soil near the beds is insulated with organic mulch.

Trimming the mustache, removing old, yellowed, dry sheets is carried out in the same way as with strawberries in ordinary beds. Mulching is carried out in the spring. Complete replacement strawberries are held for 3-4 years (depending on the variety), for this, 1-2 of the strongest antennae are cut off from the most healthy and fluffy bushes in early spring and transplanted to a new place, in this case, to a pyramidal bed.

Advantages and disadvantages

A do-it-yourself strawberry pyramid bed has its advantages:

  • saving country space;
  • faster warming up of the soil in the spring season, which favors earlier flowering and fruiting of strawberries (by 7-14 days);
  • the possibility of easy shelter beds during frosts;
  • the appearance of weeds becomes a rare occurrence;
  • the root system is protected from moles;
  • the berries practically do not come into contact with the ground, do not get dirty and do not rot, the disease of strawberries with gray rot is reduced to zero;
  • convenience of harvesting.

But there are also negative points:

  • the soil freezes quickly, plants suffer from cold weather;
  • The soil needs frequent fertilizing and watering.

Such a construction of beds is definitely a profitable option for gardening, but these recommendations should not be neglected, otherwise the strawberry harvest will be far from ideal.

Garden strawberries, or, as it is commonly called, strawberries, are everyone's favorite delicacy. It takes a lot of labor to grow it, but during the harvest season you will feel like you have won a big victory. And in order to enjoy not only the sweet taste of red berries, but also the aesthetic appearance, there is a great way - growing strawberries in pyramids.

General concepts

The method got its name because of the shape of the structure that is being built for planting. It consists of several steps located one above the other. Moreover, each next one is smaller in size than the previous one. Steps can be interconnected or hung one above the other. The design narrows up and takes on the shape of a pyramid. This is one of the types of vertical planting, used for growing not only strawberries, but also flowers, greenery, ampelous plants.

The place for strawberries is chosen as lit as possible, as the culture does not tolerate dimming. Frequent watering will be required, so access to a water supply source should be as convenient as possible. Given that all tiers need maintenance, structural elements must ensure the accessibility of the upper "floors".

It should be taken into account that what less area nutrition is allocated for one plant, the more often it is necessary to water the strawberries.

For the device use various materials: wooden boards, plastic boards, metal corners or plates, burlap, plastic wrap, old car tires of different diameters, etc. Remains from construction are quite suitable: brick, stones, blocks. General principles consider the pyramid devices using a wooden frame as an example.

The shape of the structure can be rectangular, rounded, triangular and others. The length of each side should be calculated so as to ensure a distance between plants of at least 25cm. Therefore, the size can be chosen by any multiple of this number. Each next box is 50 cm less, then the number of plants with each row up will decrease by two, which will ensure cultivation in optimal conditions. Given this scheme, you can easily calculate the number of tiers and seedlings for planting.

Work procedure

  1. The area under the bed is freed from weeds, leveled.
  2. The base is covered with mesh netting or geotextile.
  3. Install the first box, pre-treated with an antiseptic.
  4. Fall asleep with prepared fertile soil and compact.
  5. A pipe with holes is fixed in the center for watering strawberries and improving air exchange.
  6. In height around the pipe, a layer of compost and manure is conically formed, which will serve as top dressing and, when rotting, heat the bed.
  7. The next box is installed, covered with soil. At the same time, it should be remembered that the soil layer on the side of the manure layer must be at least 20 cm, since when planted in manure, the root system of the plant may die even with sufficient watering.

The procedure for assembling a pyramidal bed from other materials is similar, but if its width is small, then you can do without a pipe in the center, and water it directly under the plant.

planting

Growing plants vertically is not much different from traditional methods, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Since the feeding area in the pyramids is limited, planting should be done in well-prepared soil. It consists of humus or black soil, peat, sand (2: 1: 1). Add dolomite flour, chalk or wood ash and mineral fertilizers.
  • The soil must be covered at least 7-10 days before planting, so that it is compacted and evenly saturated with moisture.
  • For planting in a vertical way, you can use any variety of strawberries. different terms maturation. Plants with a strong aerial part will require a more sparse planting, and the distance between the steps must be increased. Given this, it is better to choose varieties with low tops. They will look most spectacular, that is, with repeated fruiting during the growing season. All summer the plants will delight both with flowers and ripening berries. The cultivation of ampelous varieties that hang down the lashes has proven itself well.
  • Planting is carried out with seedlings with a good root system, rooted mustache rosettes of the first or second order. Plants are buried in such a way that the root neck is at the level of the soil surface - no higher and no lower.

When immersing the roots in the hole, it is necessary to ensure that they are located strictly vertically. Crooked plants will not provide good growth and productivity.

Landing Care

Cultivation in pyramids requires regular watering due to the fact that the area is limited, and the plants do not tolerate lack of moisture. This is perhaps the main concern. Most effective method irrigation - drip irrigation system. To preserve moisture, cover the soil with mulching materials (film, textiles, sawdust, straw).

During the growing season loosen the soil and remove weeds. Mineral top dressing is done: in spring, the dose of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) in the ratio of 3:1:4, during the appearance of ovaries - 2:1:4, after harvesting - 2:1:3.

Watering and fertilizing plants must be done in the morning or evening under a bush, avoiding contact with leaves and fruits.

In order to prevent freezing of landings in winter period cover the pyramids with any synthetic covering material or coniferous branches.

The given method of growing strawberries has certain advantages, but it also requires additional time and money for the installation of structures. However, aesthetic pleasure throughout the summer and good harvest fresh berries with proper care, he will provide.

Gardeners are constantly in search of the optimal placement of beds in the garden. Dozens have been invented for garden strawberries different options cultivation. For children and grandchildren, they create designs that are convenient for picking sweet berries.

An interesting way for strawberries would be to use a pyramid. I believe that readers will be interested to familiarize themselves with such a solution. Someone wants to build a similar structure on their own site.

It is customary to define pyramidal beds into several types.

  1. Classic pyramid. This design has a square at the base. Small beds in the pyramid are placed in tiers.
  2. Round pyramid (more like a cone). Here, the tiers are made in the form of concentric circles located on the floors.
  3. The wooden pyramid is a free-standing structure in which shelves are created. Soil was poured on them, where the plants were planted.
  4. The displaced pyramid differs from the classical one in that the tiers placed above the previous one are rotated by 45 ° in relation to the underlying ones.
  5. As a variant of the pyramid, ladders are also understood. On them are placed boxes with grown crops.

Advantages and disadvantages of using a pyramid for the cultivation of garden strawberries

Plants are planted in narrow beds. Most of the soil is "hidden" under the higher layer. This approach reduces the visible area per bush. The space savings are quite noticeable. There are several other advantages of this design:

  • saving space for growing garden crops. The planting density of strawberry bushes corresponds to a large bed;
  • it is easier to maintain rows located on different tiers. You have to bend down less to water, feed and pick berries;
  • the roots are located high, an outflow of moisture occurs. The root part does not rot;
  • there is no room for weeds in the narrow gap of the ridge. Gardeners note that the time spent on weeding is reduced several times;
  • irrigation water and fertilizers are spent more economically than in a conventional garden;
  • all the bushes are better lit by the sun, the ripening of the crop is friendly and early;
  • berries do not touch the ground, there are no rotten and moldy. The quality is much better, even children can enjoy the berries from the pyramid;
  • the pyramid serves as a decoration on the site, it has a rather attractive appearance;
  • You can make a pyramid from a variety of materials.

There are certain disadvantages:

  • if you do not provide for a subsoil irrigation system, then the plants will feel a lack of moisture. During installation, perforated pipes are installed, water for irrigation and nutrient solutions are supplied through them;
  • the volume of soil is small, there may be a lack of soil for the roots. Subsoil batteries are used, for example, a porous sponge;
  • a small amount of soil carries another danger, the root system can freeze in winter. Shelter beds are needed.

Attention! Based on statistical studies, it has been established that plants grown in a pyramid are less susceptible to viral diseases. It is easier to carry out prevention against fungal infections by treating kuts with fungicides.

How to make a classic pyramid from planks

The easiest way to make a classic wooden pyramid. You will need to purchase:

  • boards with a thickness of 25 ... 30 mm;
  • self-tapping screws 41 ... 51 mm long;
  • impregnation to protect wood from rot (you can make it yourself).

Pyramid device

The perimeter is 2200 mm. Against the penetration of mice and moles, a steel mesh with a cell of 10 10 mm is laid out 400 mm wider than the perimeter in each direction.

High-moor peat is covered on the base. Its task is to pass excess moisture down through itself. The layer thickness is 100…120 mm.

Soil is laid inside the pyramid. It contains vegetable or other organic waste. They are laid in layers of 15 ... 20 cm. Garden soil is placed between the organics. Within a few months, decay occurs. Compost is formed.

Fitted along the edges fertile soil, it is the basis for obtaining a crop.

The perimeter is limited by boards. The height of the boards is 250 mm. If the width is not enough, then a shield of the required width is knocked down from several boards.

The second tier (and all subsequent ones) are made 500 mm smaller than the previous one. Installed in the center plastic pipe. Holes with a diameter of 10 mm are drilled in it along the entire height.

Making a Classic Pyramid

  1. The boards are sawn according to the specification for the drawing (you need a hacksaw for wood or a trimming machine).
  2. Impregnation is carried out with solutions that prevent decay. You can prepare a seven percent solution of copper sulfate. Boards are processed with a brush or from a spray gun.
  3. To connect the boards into a square, it is necessary to cut blanks 250 mm long from a bar of 30 30 (40 40) mm.
  4. Squares of future fences with a height of 250 mm are assembled. A screwdriver and self-tapping screws 41 (51) mm long are used.
  5. A plastic perforated pipe is installed in the center. A porous material, such as foam rubber, is laid inside it. It is needed to ensure a uniform return of water to the surrounding soil.
  6. The base of peat is poured, the lower tier is mounted on it. It is oriented relative to the cardinal points according to the diagram presented.
  7. Nutrient soil is poured into the resulting row.
  8. Tiers are successively installed and filled with nutrient soil.

The attached video shows the construction of the pyramid at the site:

Planting garden strawberries

When preparing the planting soil, fertilizers are applied. For the whole structure you need:

  • 25 ... 28 g of gypsum (with a neutral reaction) or 25 ... 30 g of slaked lime (at pH = 4.5 ... 5.0);
  • 8 ... 11 g of boric acid;
  • 60 ... 65 g of ammonium nitrate;
  • 45 ... 50 g of simple superphosphate;
  • 25 ... 30 g of potassium nitrate.

Attention! Instead of mono fertilizers, you can use complex fertilizers, for example, nitrophoska (NPK 10:10:10). It will take 125 ... 130 g. The granules must be mixed and poured into the pyramid.

Remontant varieties are grown on pyramidal beds. They can be transplanted in the spring.

Distribute planting material according to the scheme:

  • 28 seedlings are planted on the first tier (7 plants on each side);
  • 20 bushes are placed on the second tier (5 in a row);
  • on the third - 16 (4);
  • on the fourth - 12 (3);
  • on the fifth - 8 (2).

In total, 84 strawberry bushes are required for planting in a classic pyramid.

In the Central region, landing is carried out in mid-April. If a cold snap is expected, then the pyramid is covered with lutrasil. Non-woven material can protect with a slight frost (up to -2 ... 3 ° C).

plant care

Watering

If it rains, then additional watering is not necessary. It is necessary to water only during the period of drought (no rain for 10-12 days).

For a pyramid with a side of 2.2 m, you need to fill in 35 ... 45 liters of warm water (17 ° C and above).

Soil moisture is controlled 5 cm from the root.

  1. A lump of soil is taken.
  2. If the presence of moisture is felt (the lump does not crumble into dust), then there is enough moisture.
  3. If moisture does not penetrate to the roots, the soil lump is dry. It will disintegrate into dust. You need to find the cause of insufficient watering. In extreme cases, you will have to water each row from a watering can.

When making a pyramid, it is desirable to create a system drip irrigation.

For its manufacture use polypropylene pipes 20 mm in diameter.

  1. Squares with a side of 2000 mm, 1500 mm, 900 mm, 500 mm, 300 mm are welded from pipes using a welding machine.
  2. Holes with a diameter of 1 mm are drilled in them, orienting them relative to each planted strawberry bush (84 holes in all pipes).
  3. Pipe squares are connected to a 25 or 32 mm pipe. It is connected to a barrel (50 ... 100 l) installed away from the pyramid at a height of 2.5 m.
  4. A valve is installed on the main pipe. It is opened after pouring water.

top dressing

During the season (from May to October) it is necessary to fertilize with mineral fertilizers. For the entire pyramid, once every 20 ... 25 days, the granules are dissolved in water and watered with nutrient solutions. Solutions are prepared in portions of 10 liters. For each serving use:

  • 10 ... 12 g of urea;
  • 15 ... 17 g of simple superphosphate;
  • 5 ... 7 g of potassium nitrate.

Protection from pests and diseases

Strawberries grown in a pyramid can develop diseases in years with excess moisture:

  • white, gray and black rot. These fungal diseases can affect both a single plant and all those on the pyramid. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to cure. All affected bushes will have to be destroyed by burning them;
  • strawberry anthracnose. A sign of the disease are gray spots on the leaves. They have a crimson border. For treatment, Bordeaux liquid is needed. Dilute a one percent solution and spray the plant;

It is important to have time to process the bushes in the initial period, a delay of two or three days will be dangerous for the plant, they die.

  • rhizoctoniosis - black root rot. Spread by spores of the fungus. Black dots form on the stems of young bushes. Within a few days they merge into a single black spot. It is impossible to help in this case;
  • late blight of the roots - fungal disease. Occurs due to dampness. If the weather is likely to worsen, a canopy can be installed over the pyramid, which will limit the ingress of moisture to the plants. Prevention is tillage blue vitriol(3% solution).

Conclusion

Growing strawberries in pyramids allows efficient use of the area.

In order to save space, a pyramid-bed is used for strawberries, which are sold ready-made or made by hand. The benefits of using such a design are obvious: the minimum number of weeds, the possibility of organizing a drip irrigation system, collecting more harvest from a smaller area.

A multi-tiered garden bed requires care. It consists in systematic watering, shelter on winter time year and weeding. To ensure proper growth of seedlings and sufficient soil moisture, it is necessary to properly design and assemble the structure.

  • Show all

    Variety of materials

    A simple version of the strawberry pyramid, but not the cheapest, is to purchase a ready-made form in a garden supply store. The soil mixture is poured into it and seedlings are planted. Also, the bed can be made from improvised materials.

    When choosing materials, take into account their availability in the area where it is located. garden plot. For example, pebbles are harvested on the sea coast, from which creative multi-tiered beds and flower beds are obtained.

    Car tires are considered one of the most popular materials; not only multi-tiered beds are made from them, but also unusual figures are cut out to decorate flower beds.

    Enterprising summer residents use old chests of drawers, wooden boxes, bottles into which soil is poured and strawberries are planted.

    Tiers of stone

    Beds made of cobblestones, bricks or building blocks can be of various geometric shapes. For example, in the form of thresholds, which are attached to the wall of a residential building.

    To equip a brick pyramid, a number of works are performed:

    1. 1. Erect side walls.
    2. 2. Fall asleep drainage (broken brick, expanded clay, crushed stone).
    3. 3. Lay a fertile substrate, compact it.
    4. 4. The soil is moistened and strawberry seedlings are planted.

    The stones are fixed together with a solution of cement. Each tier is laid out with a smaller diameter compared to the previous one. Fill with drainage and soil mixture. Large seedlings are placed on the lower tier, small ones on top.

    A bed of tires

    A pyramid of tires can be made in two ways. For the first take tires different diameters and cut out the sides. Then the first tire is laid and earth is stuffed into it. A second tire with a smaller diameter is installed on top and the process is repeated depending on how many tiers are planned. The last tier involves the placement flower pot.

    If the tires are the same size, then "holes" are cut out in their sidewalls, into which strawberry seedlings will then be planted. The first tire is stuffed with earth and the next one is installed on top of it, and so on. On upper tier cutting "holes" is optional, you can plant strawberries around the entire perimeter of the tire.

    Pyramid of plastic pots

    For the southern region, planting strawberries in a pyramid helps protect the berry from pests and diseases.

    Standard option:

    1. 1. Prepare 3 plastic pots with a diameter of 60 cm and cut a hole with a diameter of 5 cm in the bottom.
    2. 2. On a pre-selected piece of land, the first pot is installed and a reinforcement bar is inserted through it to a depth of half a meter.
    3. 3. Put on the rest of the containers, firmly fixing them.
    4. 4. The structure is filled with soil and seedlings are planted.

    A few bushes of plants are planted in the upper pot to mask the top of the axis and give a beautiful appearance to the bed. The number of tiers may vary. The main thing is that the design is stable. For the winter, it is wrapped with a covering material. And in case of severe frost, they are dismantled and placed in the basement or greenhouse.

    When growing strawberries in this way, a good harvest is obtained in the first two seasons, then the number of berries decreases. The soil in the boxes should be watered twice a day. But this method helps to save space and get a minimum of weeds.

    From boards and boxes

    Often boards accumulate in the summer cottage different lengths from which can be made a comfortable bed pyramidal shape for strawberries. To do this, prepare materials and tools:

    • boards;
    • hammer;
    • nails or screws;
    • plane;
    • level;
    • PVC pipe or asbestos cement;
    • mixture of sand and earth.

    The boards are prepared: sanded, impregnated with drying oil, varnished. Chemical compositions cannot be used, as they are absorbed into the soil, and the quality of the berries is deteriorating.

    Table: Standard pyramid sizes for strawberries.

    The pipe acts as an irrigation system, holes are made in it 10 mm from above and 5 mm from below.
