Top dressing of strawberries during flowering and fruit set. How to feed and how to care for strawberries in the spring? General rules for fertilizing

Last year, my favorite strawberry brought very few berries, even jam could not be cooked from them. And the neighbor's strawberries turned out to be so fruity that she boiled several of them three-liter jars jam! I asked a neighbor what magical methods she uses.

It turns out that it is not enough just to plant strawberries, they also need to be periodically fed in order to better bear fruit. This year I did everything as the neighbor advised, now I don’t have time to collect the fruits, so many of them have grown!

In this article I will tell you how to feed strawberries during flowering and fruiting in order to reap a huge harvest.

To make the result more effective, it is important to know how many years have passed since the day the strawberries were planted: for the first year they do not give them any top dressing, since during planting the earth is fertilized with minerals.

In the second year they give mineral and organic top dressing, in the third - only mineral. A year later they give mineral and organic again. So they alternate every year, until the time comes to change the old culture to a new one.

The first fertilizer containing nitrogen is applied immediately after the snow has completely melted, but the first leaves have not yet blossomed. Before that, you need to cut last year's bushes from the garden.

Folk nitrogen-containing recipes:

  • Dial a bucket of fresh nettles, pour warm liquid to the very edge. Wait 4 days. Then dilute with 10 liters of water and pour under the very root.
  • Dilute one part of chicken manure with 10 liters of a simple liquid, keep for 4 days. For one bush, 500 ml of solution is enough.
  • In a ten-liter bucket of liquid, dilute 2 tablespoons of mullein and 1 tablespoon of ammonium sulfate. Apply one liter for each crop.

It will be more effective if, at the same time as the root, there is also foliar top dressing.

Spring top dressing

To useful material did not evaporate quickly, they are introduced either in the early morning or late in the evening. If the weather is cloudy, then the procedure can be carried out during the day. First, the plant is watered abundantly, then fertilizer is added. Foliar fertilization always starts with a spray.

In spring, the plant needs boric acid, so 1 teaspoon of boric acid and 30 drops of iodine are mixed in a 10 liter liquid, then 1 cup of wood ash is poured there. All this is thoroughly mixed and the bushes are watered once. This must be done before the first flowers appear.

Top dressing during flowering

Best of all, a fruit plant absorbs fertilizers during the flowering period, this happens around June. During this period, the culture lacks potassium, so it must be part of the fertilizer. It has been proven that berries that receive potassium in a timely manner grow very beautiful, large, sweet and juicy in taste, and can be stored longer.

The brown tips of the leaves indicate a lack of potassium. Therefore, in order to save the future harvest, you must immediately apply potassium-based fertilizer, made according to any recipe:

  • Mullein solution.
  • A solution of zinc sulfate (0.02%).
  • Pour 1 teaspoon of potassium nitrate into a 10 liter bucket of water.

Folk recipes

Not all gardeners trust chemicals, as some of them are far from harmless. Fortunately, many folk recipes can completely replace chemical ones.

Ash

The main thing to remember is that for the manufacture of future fertilizer, in no case should household waste be burned. They burn only wood, unnecessary vine, last year's potato tops, coniferous twigs. Then this ash is sprinkled around each bush or into a hole during the planting of a young crop.

Or you can make a solution by diluting one liter of ash in a ten-liter bucket of liquid. If the leaves are sick, then it is enough to sprinkle them on top with ash, which will help the plant recover.

Iodine

With such a cheap remedy as iodine, not only wounds are disinfected, but also plants, fertilizing the soil along the way. You just need to make sure that the dosage is not too large, otherwise, instead of treating the plants, they get burned. Yes, and this solution is usually sprayed with a berry crop.

10 drops of iodine are dissolved in 10 liters of water, then the culture is sprayed before the first flowers bloom. Then this procedure for the whole summer is done three times with an interval of ten days.

bread crusts

Few people love the bread crusts of yesterday's rye bread. Therefore, they can be put aside in a separate bag, so that later they can be made into excellent fertilizer. The crusts collected from one bread are soaked in one liter of warm water for a week.

After that, 10 liters of liquid are additionally diluted and each bush is watered. And it doesn’t matter if the culture is blooming or bearing fruit at the moment.

Boric acid

During flowering, strawberries require not only potassium, but also boric acid, which improves bud set. Pour 2 grams of potassium permanganate and boric acid into 10 liters of water, then 1 liter of ash.

This solution is watered over the entire bed once after it has been watered in the usual way.

Yeast

Yeast helps plants get sick less often and grow better. Soak 200 g of fresh yeast in 500 ml of warm water. After 20 minutes, this mixture is poured into 9 liters of liquid and each bush is watered abundantly.

If fresh yeast is not available, dry yeast can be substituted. In this case, the recipe is slightly different: a bag of yeast is dissolved in 10 liters of water, 2 tablespoons of sugar are poured and insisted on room temperature in two hours. Then they water the beds.

Spoiled milk

If forgotten sour milk or fermented kefir is found in the refrigerator, do not rush to throw it away, you can make an excellent top dressing from them, as they contain potassium, phosphorus, sulfur and improve the acidity of the earth.

For this milk product diluted with water twice. Then it is poured no closer than 10 centimeters from the bush. They can spray the leaves.

cow dung

Pour 2.5 kg of cow manure into a standard bucket, fill it to the brim with a simple liquid and leave for a day. Then mix well with a stick. Then the beds are watered with it, trying not to get it on the basal neck of the plant.

chicken manure

They are fertilized only once every one or two years, no more. But only in early spring. Chicken manure supplies the earth with an incredible amount of useful trace elements. First, a stronger solution is made in a 1: 2 ratio with water, then 1 liter of this solution is diluted with a bucket of water. And the beds are watered around the berry bushes.

Urea

It must be remembered that strawberries can die from chlorine, so it is important to read the composition of any fertilizer.

In the northern or Ural part of Russia, where the weather is unstable, experienced gardeners recommend fertilizing the soil with urea in April, which will help the crop get nitrogen during frosts.

One tablespoon of urea is poured into a ten-liter bucket of water, after which the plants are watered.

Feeding during fruiting

The most ideal fertilizer during this period is a solution of mullein with water (1:14). It is insisted for three days in a tightly closed container, then one liter of solution is poured under one bush.

Removing unwanted mustache

To increase the yield, you need to cut off the extra whiskers, since there are those varieties of strawberries in which they grow very quickly and take almost all the useful minerals.

From the first grown mustache you can get planting material. In order for them to take root better, they are simply lightly sprinkled with earth. And at the end of August they are cut off from the mother bush and transplanted to permanent place, or left where they are rooted.

It must be remembered that the mustache is cut off with sharp scissors, and not cut off by hand, since this can damage the roots. First, they wait until the mustache grows at least 10 centimeters.

This treatment is carried out in cool and dry weather, in heat and under sunbeams it is better to forget about this procedure. If the mustache is trimmed in wet weather, then the risk of infection with any fungal disease increases.

Watering during flowering

During flowering, strawberries need not only more top dressing, but also regular watering so that the fruits can form and pour in time. The main thing is not to overfill, as the fruits can rot. If the weather is cloudy, then it is enough to water once a week, and if it is rainy, then it is better to forget about watering.

But in the heat it is recommended to water every three days. The irrigation liquid should be about the same temperature as the soil in the garden. It is undesirable to water with too warm or too cold liquid, as the greens can get sick. The most ideal way of watering is under the root.

Pollination

It does not always happen that a bed with fruit plants visited by pollinating insects. Sometimes, due to bad weather, they do not visit the flowers at all, which means that the fruits will not be able to grow. Therefore, in this case, we resort to manual pollination. We take any clean brush or sponge, alternately touch each flower with it.

In this way, we help the pollen to spread. If the beds are huge, then you can use a hand fan, which will simply spread the pollen throughout the garden.

To help attract pollinating insects that for some reason fly past, one tablespoon of honey is dissolved in one liter of warm liquid. Then the leaves of the culture are sprayed with this solution. After that, insects will definitely fly to the smell.

If you follow all the above rules correctly, then in the middle of summer you will harvest a huge crop of sweet and juicy strawberries.

A very important stage of cultivation, which cannot be ignored in any way, is top dressing of strawberries in the spring. Properly fertilizing the berry, you can get a generous harvest and a lot of planting material.

Before you start fertilizing, you need to clear the strawberry plantation from last year's garbage. As soon as the snow melts, a layer of old mulch, dried leaves, mustaches and twigs are removed.

Feeding garden strawberries after the snow melts, you can make cow dung. To do this, 1 liter of well-fermented mullein is diluted in a bucket of water. Pour 500 ml of solution under the bush.

After applying the nutrient solution, each bush must be mulched with a thin layer of ash.

Ash is the best protection against insect pests and an excellent prevention of various diseases.

After spilling the ash, the entire strawberry garden is mulched with rotted needles.

Spring before flowering and during flowering

Be sure to feed the blooming strawberries and it is important to make necessary fertilizers before flowering, so that the berries become larger and sweeter.

Care and feeding with iodine

Iodine is a common folk remedy that can be used to feed berries in early spring. By adding just a few drops of this cheap pharmaceutical product to water for irrigation, you can prevent the appearance of various strawberry rots, because this drug is an excellent disinfectant.

Often iodine is used to spray the leaves, but very carefully so as not to burn the plants. It is best to feed the bushes at the root.

  1. First, the beds are abundantly shed with water.
  2. Then literally 15 drops of iodine are diluted in 10 - 12 liters of plain water and 300 ml are added to each outlet.
  3. It is very useful for strawberries to add 1 tsp to an iodine solution. boric acid.

This fertilizer can be further improved by adding 50 g of brown laundry soap chips to the solution.

Feeding strawberries with chicken manure

Very useful before the start and already during flowering various organic top dressing which, when used correctly, are 100% safe for both plants and humans. One of these folk remedies- chicken manure.

The fact is that in its composition, in addition to a huge amount nutrients, there is also harmful uric acid, which can kill bushes very quickly. Also, chicken manure is a concentrate, in which there is a lot of nitrogen, phosphorus and other trace elements. Making a litter in pure form necessarily lead to an excess of nutrition and the inevitable death of the berry.

To lower the concentration of uric acid, the litter is dried outside and stored for a long period. Sometimes the litter is mixed. Gradually, all excess will evaporate from the fertilizer, and it will become usable. Usually, chicken manure is stored in the air all winter, and in the spring they begin to fertilize the garden with it.

Many experienced gardeners know that it is best to make an infusion of chicken manure and then pour it over. garden plants. You can see literally a few days after making the infusion that the plants become stronger, grow green mass faster and bloom more profusely.

Cooking infusion on chicken manure does not take much time.

  1. First, the litter, which has rotted during the winter, is poured with water. It is enough to take a bucket of water for 1 liter of fertilizer.
  2. The bucket is left open and placed in the air.
  3. The solution should be stirred daily. The color of the infusion should be very light.
  4. The fermented solution is diluted with additional clean water at the rate of 1:20 and each bush is poured with 500 ml.

It is advisable to shed the beds well the day before fertilizing.

Spring care with boric acid

Strawberry nutrition is very common boric acid early spring.

Boron significantly improves the quality of the crop - the berries become larger, fleshy, the leaves of the bushes do not dry out and do not deteriorate.

It is impossible to bring boric acid into the soil in its pure form. It is necessary to prepare a nutrient solution. Strawberries are watered with this fertilizer only under the root. It is also possible to spray the bushes with nutrient solutions, but in this case they should be very weak.

Spraying with boric acid is carried out only before flowering. If a strawberry plantation is treated with boric acid during flowering, it can harm the bees.

For top dressing prepare such a solution:

  1. Dissolve 2 g of acid in 10 liters of tepid water.
  2. Add 1 g of manganese to the nutrient solution.
  3. Stir the mixture.

On average, one bucket of such fertilizer is enough to add about 30 bushes.

There is another recipe for making strawberry fertilizer based on boric acid:

  1. Dissolve 2 g of boric acid in 10 liters of water.
  2. Add 20 g of urea and 3 g of manganese.
  3. At the end, pour 100 g of ash into the solution and mix well.

This nutrient composition should be added to the bushes before flowering. The recipe is also suitable for fertilizing strawberries during the ripening of berries. For a good harvest, many gardeners feed berries and ammonia by adding a few drops of the drug to the prepared nutrient solution.

We feed with yeast

Mineral top dressing before and during the flowering of berries can be successfully replaced with fertilizers made from baker's yeast.

Yeast nutrition is safe and effective method get a generous harvest of berries.

Preparing a nutrient solution for fertilizers is very simple: dissolve 1 kg of yeast in 5 liters of warm water. After a couple of days, dilute 500 ml of the yeast solution in a bucket of water and add 500 ml to each bush.

You can substitute baker's yeast for powdered yeast. Dilute a bag of dry yeast in 5 liters of warm water and leave for a day. In the fermentation solution, add 2 tbsp. l. Sahara. This solution does not need to be diluted, it is immediately used to fertilize the berries.

We fertilize strawberries with urea

1 tbsp follows. l. dissolve the granules in 10 liters of water. Consumption rate - 500 ml per outlet. It should be taken into account that urea increases the acidity of the soil, therefore, if the soil is already acidic, ground limestone is added to the nutrient solution at the rate of 0.8: 1.

Complex fertilizer for strawberries in spring

It is possible to fertilize an already blooming berry bush with special complex mixtures. Use ready-made formulations in May before flowering.

Complex fertilizers can be of two types - highly mobile and with a low mobile composition.

  • Highly mobile compositions contain a lot of nitrogen, which is necessary for the rapid growth and proper development of bushes.
  • Low-mobility mixtures contain a lot of copper, boron and iron, which do not give such a quick result, as they are slowly absorbed by plants.

If strawberry leaves turn pale, then it lacks nitrogen. In this case, you should choose fertilizers with a high content of this element. One of the common fertilizers for berry growers is urea.

Bushes need a lot of potassium during the formation of flower buds. It is from its presence that the taste of the fruit depends. You can fertilize strawberries with potassium sulfate, potassium magnesia.

Mineral top dressings, which contain a lot of sulfur, are necessary to increase plant immunity and protect against pests. One of the most popular fertilizers is superphosphate. Also, many use ammophos.

foliar top dressing

Spray the bushes only in the early morning or in the evening to avoid burning the leaves. Yeast infusion or iodine can be used as nutrient solutions.

Popular foliar top dressing with saltpeter. It is necessary to dissolve 1 tbsp in a bucket of water. l. saltpeter and spray plants.

Often gardeners feed berries with nettles. As part of this plant, there are a lot of trace elements that are well absorbed by strawberries.

To prepare a nutrient solution, you should:

  1. Pour 1 bucket of chopped nettle into a barrel of water and leave for a week.
  2. After the allotted time, 500 ml of top dressing is diluted in a bucket of water and the bushes are sprayed.

This infusion is also used for pouring rosettes. In this case, 500 ml of infusion is diluted with 10 liters of plain water and each bush is poured with 300 - 500 ml.

Growing strawberries on your own personal plot This is a very rewarding job. For attention and care, the gardener receives a generous harvest of juicy and fragrant berries.

Strawberries were bred in the 18th century. as a result of crossing Chilean and Virginian wild strawberries.
Strawberry fruits, polynuts, have a bright taste and amazing aroma. How to get good harvest? How to feed this crop during the flowering period? In what proportions should fertilizers be applied? The article provides recommendations on this topic.

About strawberries

  • Strawberries are an unpretentious culture. It grows best in light, super-sandy or medium loamy soil types.
  • The roots of strawberries are not high, so the culture needs a sufficient amount of moisture, but waterlogging is also unacceptable for it.
  • For planting strawberry bushes, choose sunny places (with the exception of the remontant varieties “Yellow Miracle”, “Ali Baba”).
  • Bushes rejuvenate every 3-4 g. Further, the number and size of fruits decreases.
  • Strawberries bloom in the second half of May - June. During this period, future fruits develop intensively, so the plant needs additional nutrition.

fertilizers

The flowering period is the time of planned feeding of strawberries. For this purpose, we use various solutions, infusions, spray the bushes.

Potassium

During flowering, strawberries need a lot of potassium. If the plant has a deficiency of this element, the tips of the leaves turn brown. The bushes are fed with chicken droppings, wood ash or potassium nitrate. For this, infusions are made.

  • For 10 liters of water we take tsp. potassium nitrate, stir and water the plants.
  • Pour 0.5 liters of solution under each bush.
  • Strawberries can also be sprayed with this composition.

Boric acid

  • At the initial stage of flowering, it is good to spray strawberries with a solution of boric acid, which contains a large amount of useful trace elements for good growth.
  • After such spraying, the plants become stronger, and the berries become large.
  • The solution is prepared at the rate of 1 pinch of boric acid per 1 bucket of water.
  • At the beginning of flowering, a solution of manure can also be applied.

Ready fertilizers

Also, top dressing of strawberries with industrial preparations provides excellent results. The yield of juicy and healthy fruits is increased by 30%.
We prepare a mixture of the following fertilizers:

  • potassium sulfate and potassium permanganate - 2 g each
  • boric acid - 1 g
  • complex fertilizer

We mix all the ingredients and dissolve in water (volume - 10 l). We process plants. Especially carefully water the leaves with reverse side. Thus, plants will be able to absorb the maximum of useful substances.

Zinc sulfate

At the height of flowering, strawberry bushes are sprayed with a solution of zinc sulfate. For such top dressing, a 0.2% solution of the substance is prepared.

Yeast

Recently, this top dressing has become very popular. It is held 2 times a season.
To prepare the composition we take:

  • fresh pressed yeast - 1 kg
  • water - 5 l

We dissolve the yeast in water, then, the fertilizer is infused.
Before starting feeding, dilute the composition again: scoop up 0.5 liters of the solution and stir in 10 liters of water. The amount of fertilizer for each bush is 0.5 liters. We water the plant at the root.
You can also use dry yeast. To prepare the infusion, we take:

  • dry yeast - 1 sachet
  • sugar - 2 tbsp.

Pour a mixture of yeast and sugar with warm water, the solution begins to prepare. Next, dissolve the sugar-yeast mixture in 10 liters of water and leave for 2 hours, then proceed to watering. (1 strawberry bush / 0.5 l of top dressing).

Nutritious top dressing of strawberries in the flowering phase will fill the plants with important substances and strengthen them. The future harvest will be more abundant, and the berries will be large and sweet.

Strawberries are the queen among garden berries. It is beautiful in every respect - juicy tasty pulp, unique aroma, bright color. This is an undemanding culture, you just need to know the basic rules of care. Top dressing during flowering and fruiting is the basis for obtaining an abundant and high-quality strawberry crop.

Strawberries are planted in late summer in August or early September. When planted at such a time, rosettes have a chance to take root in the ground, adapt and winter well. Fertilizers are applied to the ground before planting - rotted manure, mullein, wood ash.

Mineral fertilizer is added directly to the strawberry holes. The composition must necessarily contain phosphorus (2 parts), potassium (1 part), urea (1 part). Such top dressing will stimulate the growth of the root system and enable the seedling to lay flower buds for the next year. After laying the fertilizer, shed the ground, the next day you can plant strawberries.

At this stage, care is completed.

Rules for the care of flowering strawberries

In the spring after planting, you should evaluate how well the strawberries overwintered. Strawberries take root well and usually a small part of the seedlings falls out.

At the moment when new leaves began to grow at the outlet, the bed is cleaned from last year's garbage, the mustache is cut off and mulched. Mustaches must be cut off during the entire growing season, otherwise, instead of the abundant formation of peduncles and berries, a new outlet will grow.

During the formation of peduncles and the actual flowering, the plant consumes a huge amount of nutrients. The fertilizer that was planted during planting went to the formation of a powerful root system and now strawberries need regular feeding. When choosing how to fertilize strawberries, give preference to proven products.

Fertilizers for strawberries during flowering

Flowering is the most crucial stage for a gardener. It is necessary to feed the strawberries correctly and on time during flowering, and she will thank with a bountiful harvest.

When fertilizing, the yield increases on average from 40% to 70%.

The first feeding of strawberries is carried out when it has gained buds or bloomed. Top dressings are divided into two categories: root and foliar.

organic top dressing

The laying of fertilizer is carried out under the root. Ways to prepare fertilizers that will stimulate budding, abundant flowering and abundant harvest during fruiting:

  1. Mullein infusion is an organic, completely ecological top dressing, which contains all useful microelements. Insist two glasses of mullein in a bucket of water, add two tablespoons of urea, feed at the rate of 0.5 liters of infusion per bush;
  2. Chicken litter. Bird droppings are one of the best fertilizers that stimulate flowering, budding and fruiting. One liter of chicken manure is poured with a bucket of water and allowed to brew for 6 days. Then this infusion is bred again immediately before feeding (1 liter of infusion per bucket of water). This solution is used to fertilize strawberries, at the rate of 0.5 liters per bush. It is strictly contraindicated to bring dry chicken manure under the bushes due to great content urea, it can burn the root system;
  3. Wood ash contains a large amount of potassium and other trace elements and is a good fertilizer. To bookmark wood ash, you can use two methods - just pour it under a bush, lightly planting it in the ground, or dilute the infusion with which to water the bushes. For one bucket of water with a volume of 10 liters, you need to take 1 glass of wood ash. Water at the rate of 0.5-1 liter per bush;
  4. Yeast top dressing - has recently gained popularity among gardeners as a fertilizer for strawberries. I would like to say right away that it does not replace top dressing with organo-mineral complexes, but is rather a stimulator of immunity, the development of the root system and the aerial part of the outlet. Any yeast (fresh or dry) is diluted at the rate of 10 grams per liter;
  5. At the stage of bud formation, additional foliar top dressing can be carried out with the Baikal EM preparation. This is a preparation containing a culture of live bacteria that promote regeneration, improve immunity, restore soil and fix nitrogen. When foliar processing "Baikal" actively stimulates budding and flowering. Sockets are processed with a solution diluted 1 to 1000, which should stand for several days.

When choosing fertilizer for strawberries during flowering, gardeners and gardeners give priority to organic fertilizers. They are better absorbed by the plant, do not accumulate in various parts, are the best choice for environmentally friendly gardening and horticulture.

Inorganic top dressing

Inorganic top dressings include a complex mineral fertilizers, which are applied under the root or along the leaf to cause the growth of the rosette and the growth of buds.

  1. Potassium nitrate - improves the process of fruit formation and their quality. About two teaspoons of fertilizer are bred in a bucket of water. Watered under the root or on the leaf.
  2. Foliar feeding of strawberries with zinc sulfate in the proportion of 2 grams per 10 liters of water also stimulates the active growth of buds;
  3. Foliar spraying with boric acid will increase the number of buds several times. For 10 liters of water, only 1/3 teaspoon of boric acid is needed;
  4. Urea - improves the formation of green mass, which is necessary for good growth and flowering. In one bucket of water, a matchbox of urea is bred, watered at the rate of 0.5-1 liter under a bush.
  5. Specialized complex formulations that can be bought at the store. They are released separately for the flowering period. Bred according to the instructions. They can produce both foliar and root top dressing.

I would like to recall that from the moment the bud blooms to the ripening of the berry, an average of four weeks pass. Fertilizing with mineral inorganic fertilizers during the flowering period, it is better to give preference to foliar top dressing. They are better absorbed, used by the plant in full, and are not stored in reserve in berries.

How to fertilize strawberries during fruiting

Most gardeners and gardeners are trying to plant several varieties of strawberries in order to stretch the fruiting for as long as possible. Therefore, the first mass harvest wave is usually followed by a second and third harvest. During fruiting, you can feed the strawberries again, this will give the plant the opportunity to form the same large berries as during the first harvest.

It must be remembered that during fruiting, strawberries are fed exclusively with organic fertilizers, which will not enter the berry in the form of nitrates. It can be an infusion of mullein, ash, chicken manure, or an infusion of humus (a bucket of humus in a barrel of water).

General rules for fertilizing

  1. Before fertilizing and even planting strawberries, you should at least roughly study the soil on the site. What is she? Dense clay or loose sandy? Determine the acidity of the soil. Perhaps the soil reaction in the area is acidic, and applying nitrogen fertilizers will exacerbate the problem;
  2. The application of all fertilizers, especially inorganic ones, must be carried out in moist soil, otherwise burns of the root system are possible, even at low concentrations of the substance;
  3. It is better to fertilize in warm, but not hot weather; in such weather, fertilizer is better absorbed. Foliar feeding is best done on a cloudy, quiet day, or after 5 pm. At this time, the probability decreases sunburn leaves;
  4. If you mulched strawberries with humus, then the need for fertilizers is significantly reduced;
  5. Organic fertilizers are a priority form for growing an environmentally friendly product. Use organics during flowering and fruiting, and inorganics during planting and preparation for wintering.
