Make your own high chair. Children's highchair for feeding do-it-yourself drawings, dimensions of the diagram. How to make a high chair with your own hands

Still don't know how to design a high chair yourself? Our article will help you understand all the intricacies of folding this irreplaceable piece of furniture. You will see that it is not difficult to assemble wooden children's chairs with your own hands.

Material

Before you start assembling a chair with your own hands, you should decide on the material. Of course, wood is the best choice, it is completely safe and environmentally friendly. What wood to choose? Let's start with beech. Beech is considered dense and durable wood, and it is easier to work with it than, for example, with oak. If you are looking for something more budget, birch and pine - a good option. But before you start work, you should deresin the tree, since the resin, even if it is natural, is unsafe. Also, for the manufacture of a chair, you can choose plywood - good material made from layers of tree veneer. Plywood is not heavy and is easily processed. Chipboard - the most affordable, but at the same time, the most short-lived. It is suitable for making the tabletop of a high chair.

Preparation

You can find material and drawings for children's furniture at any hardware store. Dry the tree by leaving it indoors with room temperature for a day. The wood will become workable.
Are you not sure that you can make all the elements of the chair with your own hands? Contact a hardware store.

The back and seat must be rectangular shape. The side parts of the children's chair can be made and decorated as you like. Try not to make a highchair with sharp corners - they are dangerous for the child.

Material handling

Naturally, it is impossible to use the material in its original form for both an ordinary chair and a highchair. It needs to be processed. You can do it yourself or turn to professionals. The wood should be processed with a hand mill or ordinary sandpaper. With a milling cutter, processing must be carried out in transverse sections. Varnish. Get a varnish with a turpentine base - it does not contain toxic substances. After letting the varnish dry, sand the surface several times. For smoothness varnish again.

Procedure and design scheme

On the video: another version of the design of the chair. Be sure to check it out 🙂

Dowels can be used to fasten a regular chair. They are good because they can also be made from wood with your own hands. Under them, holes should be made with a diameter of 6-8 mm. Push the parts tightly onto the dowels, tapping them with a hammer. Fix with a clamp and leave for 24 hours. If you need to fix the elements of the high chair, it will be more convenient to use confirmations. Such ties are suitable for folding a large number of parts.

You can make drawings and diagrams yourself or find them on a construction site. It is better to do the drawing yourself, measuring the parameters of the child. Carefully calculate the dimensions, the ratio of height and width. Of course, it is more difficult to draw a diagram for a high chair yourself, so it is better to turn to ready-made drawings.

If you've made a drawing but aren't quite sure if it's correct, test it out by folding a cardboard model of the chair.

Usually children from 1 to 6 are folded with either ordinary wooden chairs for games or activities, or a high chair. You can make a separate small table and chair with your own hands using the drawing.

Regular wooden chair

For a regular do-it-yourself chair, you will need the following parts:

  • 2 short legs, 2 long (53 cm high). Dimensions of 4 legs - 3.8 * 3.3 cm;
  • seat (approx. 30*30 cm);
  • backrest (6 mm thick, 22.5 cm high);
  • bars under the seat;
  • drawing of an ordinary chair.

An angle should be made from the wide parts of the high legs. Align the sides of the short legs and bars with a grinder. Take drilling machine and install a drill with a diameter of 6 mm. Measure a depth of 1.5 cm on the drill and mark it using the drawing. Drill along the long legs at an angle, making 12 holes. We select everything with a chisel from the drilled parts, make grooves. We insert the back into the grooves.

If part of the back rests, cut out a triangle, drive the back into the groove with a hammer. Make spikes from the sides of the bar and round the corners. We make grooves for spikes in the legs. Assembling the frame. If the back is too wide and does not fit into the grooves, measure and cut off the excess. Do not forget to make triangles on the sides of the back so that it sits firmly in the grooves. Do not rush to insert into the rear legs. Make a handle for the chair in the back. Mark the distance and cut a hole for the handle.

Insert the back into the frame. Now we make marks on the seat and cut it out. Sand the seat and insert into the frame.

Lubricate the holes, elements and spikes for fastening with glue, fix with clamps, leave to dry.

Wooden children's chair for feeding

You will have to spend more time and money on a wooden highchair for feeding a child. In order to make such a piece of furniture with your own hands, you will need:

  • bars with a section of 400 * 200 mm
  • board (thickness 20 mm)
  • fibreboard 2000*2100 mm in size.
  • drawing of a chair for feeding

For the chair you will need: 4 legs, 2 upper crossbars and 2 lower crossbars, 3 crossbars, a tabletop.
For the table: legs, slats, crossbars of 4 pieces, table top

We cut out the parts for the chair from the bars, process them with sandpaper. We cut out the elements for the chair handles from the board. We connect with the help of dowels and glue. Under the dowels, holes with a depth of 30 mm will be needed.

For the sidewall, you will need crossbars, 2 roundings, 2 legs. Lubricate the dowels and holes with glue. First, assemble the bottom bar and legs (the angle should be 90 degrees). Then we assemble the upper crossbar and two roundings. We tighten everything with a clamp. We leave for one day. The second sidewall is folded in the same way. Make sure they are the same.

Now another important step is the assembly of the seat and back. Be careful here, as children are very restless during feeding, so all details must be fixed tightly. You need 6 parts from a plate with dimensions of 300 * 250 mm. Round the corners so that the radius is 50 mm. Next, you need to do the sanding of the ends. Lubricate the parts with glue and press. You can connect the back and seat with screws. We glue the cross-bars with the sidewalls. Then you need to connect the legs with all the planks, attach the sidewalls with crossbars and fix the tabletop on one of the ends. We get a ready-made highchair for feeding.

Many modern parents are trying to make a highchair for feeding with their own hands. Made at home, it will meet all high requirements and completely eliminate allergens and components harmful to the child. Moreover, if we take into account high cost furniture for a child, then this will be a good way to save money.

A person who knows how to work with wood can easily make a good, and most importantly, safe transformer chair with his own hands. Before assembling a high chair, you should carefully select the materials for it.

Experts advise using softwood, such as spruce or pine. They should be chosen because they are easy to process, long-lasting and relatively inexpensive. Nevertheless, professional carpenters are used to assembling children's furniture from linden. It costs a little more, but will last much longer.

Since a highchair is being made, it is imperative to rid it of splinters and irregularities. You can use sandpaper for this, but the work will go faster with the use of a grinder. For a child, comfort and safety are important, so these items are the main ones in this work.

Prepare everything in advance necessary tools: nails, bolts, nuts, hinges, and as a result, take care of painting the finished product. The mobile high chair needs to be painted acrylic paint. It is less toxic, as well as acrylic-based varnishes. The child will not only breathe harmful fumes every day, but also taste them by mouth, so parents should take care of his safety.

Types of chairs

Do-it-yourself feeding chairs are different types. Before starting work, you should decide on one option, this will allow you to more accurately determine the amount of option spent. You also need to know from what and until what age the child should eat in a place specially prepared for him.

Starting from six months, the baby is able to visit the children's chair for feeding. The design must be made in such a way that the child cannot fall from it. A high chair for feeding a child should have high legs so that the child sits at the same level as adults. By knowing how to choose a high chair, your child will feel comfortable with every feeding.

High chair (option 1) High chair (option 2) High chair (option 3)
High chair (option 4) High chair (option 5) High chair (option 6)

The standard option for a high chair is a seat with long legs, to which a small table is already attached. This option can be placed anywhere, and the child pollutes only a certain area that is allowed to him. The combined children's chair for feeding is a small chair, qualitatively installed on a table-desk. When the baby grows up, the wooden chair can be removed and turned into a play desk.

Work process

Drawings, dimensions, diagrams - all this is available on the Internet. Also there you can find photos and videos of the process itself. After creating a schematic drawing, you can proceed to the very cutting of a chair for a child:

  1. Each piece of wood is processed with sandpaper before attaching them to each other.
  2. The dimensions must exactly match the drawings, otherwise the feeding chair will be uneven.
  3. You need to connect from the bottom to the top in order to properly secure the seat.

We cut out the details for the chair. It is advisable to use a router with a copy cutter.
The base to which the seat will be attached The back and sides are ready

Before work, check at what age you need a high chair. It should not be made too small or too large - this will bring inconvenience when feeding. All edges that come into contact with the child are made smooth and varnished in several layers.

In some cases, it is better to wrap the highchair with foam rubber. This will provide additional security, and the rules say that you need to make a high chair on your own. high level. Experts advise sewing a cover on the chair, which can be washed more often, that is, kept clean. The main thing is not even what kind of chair, but how comfortable it will be for the baby to sit in it.

Knowing how to choose the right model and how to assemble a highchair, you will provide your child with high-quality and safe furniture. These necessary interior items will come in handy in any case, and buying them in the store is not always safe. Yes, and saving Money always has a positive effect on future parents. Instructions on how to make a highchair will help you deal with all the subtleties and achieve an amazing result that will surprise all your loved ones.

With the birth of a baby in the family, parents strive to surround him with the highest quality and reliable things. This applies not only to toys and clothes, but also furniture items.

A small child does not need as much furniture as an adult. But he must have:, and and for feeding. The stores offer a huge range of children's furniture for every taste. But most young parents prefer to make furniture items on their own.

They explain this not only by saving family budget, but also by the fact that do-it-yourself children's furniture will turn out to be more reliable, functional, practical and safe. In this article, we will look at independent production baby feeding chair.

A high chair is needed for babies from seven to nine months. With it, they will be able to eat with adults at the dinner table. With the correct design of the chair, the baby will correctly form the motor apparatus and posture.

There are special requirements for such a children's furniture item.:

As for the variety of designs, the baby highchair can be made:

  • On high legs. On it, the baby will be at the level of adults. This is the most common model that is in demand among consumers.
  • WITH soft case. This chair is attached to dining table. It is compact and ergonomic. The light weight of the product allows you to take it with you to the country or to visit.
  • Combined chair. It consists of a chair and a table that transforms into a high chair for feeding.

Advice: The chair should be made portable so that you can take it to the bathroom and wash it after a bad meal.

Wood or plywood?

Everyone knows that children's furniture should be made of environmentally friendly and non-toxic materials. For these purposes, the most suitable:

In addition to lumber, to make a baby highchair, you will also need to pick up varnish or paint. It must be hypoallergenic and safe materials that do not cause irritation to young users.

When choosing a paint, it is better to give preference to acrylic-based materials.. They do not emit a strong odor, are safe and have bright and saturated colors.

When choosing a varnish, opt for a turpentine-based material. It does not contain toxic substances, and it will not harm the health of the child.

If you decide to decorate furniture with fabric for more convenient use of the chair, then special requirements are also imposed on its choice. In addition to the fact that the fabric should be hypoallergenic, it should not leave stains.

It is better to choose wear-resistant materials that are resistant to negative factors. WITH inside you will definitely need to put a small layer of foam rubber or synthetic winterizer.

Advice: good choice upholstery will be bologna fabric or raincoat fabric.

The filler is glued onto the frame using carpentry glue, or it can be attached with a furniture stapler. The upholstery is fastened with a stapler to the frame of the product.

Scheme and drawing with dimensions

After you have decided on the design of the table, its dimensions and materials of manufacture, you will need to make a competent plan drawing of the future piece of furniture. This will not allow you to make mistakes in the workflow and will guarantee that the children's table for feeding the baby will be assembled correctly and competently. You can make a drawing of furniture in different ways:

  • Draw with a pencil on graph paper. To do this, you need to be able to calculate the dimensions and have an idea how the details will look in different projections.
  • Find suitable option furniture on the Internet. This option is suitable for beginners in carpentry.. Here you can also ask questions on the forums to the same craftsmen in the manufacture of furniture.
  • Make a diagram using a special computer program. This option is suitable for people who know how to handle a personal computer. In this program, it will be possible to calculate the dimensions of all individual parts and even calculate the total amount of lumber needed.

Which option to opt for is up to you. The main thing is that the drawing of a baby highchair for feeding a baby is designed wisely.

Attention: to calculate the dimensions of the highchair, experts use a special table. With the growth of the baby from 80 to 90 cm, the height of the seat should be 20 cm, and the width and depth - 33 and 26 cm.

Tools

To make a baby chair, you will need the following tools:

  • grinder;
  • screwdriver or drill with different drills;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • wood cutter.

Of the materials needed:

  • loops, self-tapping screws, fastening elements;
  • wood glue;
  • furniture stapler;
  • fiberboard and plywood;
  • brushes;
  • upholstery fabric and synthetic winterizer;
  • paints and varnishes.

Step-by-step instruction

We will make a combined highchair for feeding a baby with our own hands. That is, this model consists of a low table, on which a small chair with restrictive rings is installed. This is the most common and convenient option high chair.

In the process of work, we will need to separately build a small table and chair. It will easily transform into a high chair for a dinner meal, and when the baby grows up, it can be used as a table with a chair for games.

Manufacturing of wooden parts

So, work begins on the manufacture of a highchair for feeding with the preparation of the necessary parts. We will make them from:

To assemble the baby chair, you will need the following parts:

  • legs (4 pieces, 39 cm long);
  • cross bars (3 pieces, 20 cm long);
  • 4 rounded elements;
  • tabletop dimensions 20 by 34 cm
  • upper crossbars (2 pieces of 22 cm each);
  • lower crossbars (2 pieces of 34 cm each).

To make a table, we need the following parts:

  • legs (four pieces of 50 cm each);
  • transverse slats (four pieces of 34 cm each);
  • plates (four pieces of 41 cm each);
  • tabletop dimensions 38 by 45 cm.

After preparing all the parts, they must be carefully cleaned with a grinder or sandpaper. If desired, the parts can be stained and varnished or simply coated with water-based enamel.

Attention: you can round the details of the baby chair on a special machine or using electric jigsaw. In no case should children's furniture have sharp corners so that the child cannot be injured about them.

The parts are fastened together with dowels (purchased at any furniture store) or self-tapping screws.

How to assemble?

After manufacturing the parts, you can proceed directly to the assembly of the product. The highchair is assembled in the following sequence:

Important: at the points of fastening of individual elements with a drill, holes are made for fasteners up to 3 cm deep.

How to make children's furniture upholstered?

To make the highchair more comfortable to use, its seat and back can be padded:

Conclusion

As a final note, some parents find it much easier to just buy a pre-made highchair. Moreover, they are sold in a wide range and are not so expensive. But with such an acquisition, one cannot be sure of the reliability and durability of a piece of furniture.

If you are very worried about the safety of your baby, you have some free time and you know how to handle power tools, try to make a quality piece of furniture for your child with your own hands. As a result, you will get a functional, stylish and very comfortable table and chair made of environmentally friendly materials.

In contact with

One of the founders of the Encyclopedia Denis Diderot was once asked by a familiar lady: at what age should one start raising a child? "How old are you?" he asked in response. "Oh, he's only one day old!" The philosopher shrugged his shoulders: "In that case, you are already a day late."

A child will need a high chair not on the first day of his life, but when the baby begins to sit down on his own, at about 6 months. But his role in the formation of the personality of a new person is by no means small. Firstly, the formation of the musculoskeletal system and correct posture begins on the chair. Secondly, a child learns to handle things from a high chair. This is the first property of his that is not a toy. Children who grew up on the lap of their mother or grandmother, on average, get along worse with others and realize their abilities less well.

The interests of parents, too, of course, cannot be discounted. Feeding a small child often causes a storm of emotions in him, which parents at the moment, perhaps, are simply tiresome. Feeding something that spins like a spinning top on its knees, calmly and kindly, is worth a lot of effort; the child feels it and only gets more excited, which does not benefit him in any way. In addition, you need to protect clothes, carpets, furniture from volleys of porridge, soup or mashed potatoes.

So out of pretty a large number varieties of children's chairs, the first in importance and the time of the start of use is a high chair. A little later, after about another 4-6 months, he will need a play/work chair. In that order, we will deal with them.

General requirements

To make a useful and comfortable highchair for your baby with your own hands, you must first take into account ergonomics.

First, the stool for younger children should not be too soft: in order for the skeleton of the child to grow correctly and the muscles to develop, his body must feel reliable support. It is desirable to make a high chair generally hard, but relatively thin soft pads on the seat and back are needed on the high chair and work chair. The gaming and work chairs are often the same, how can it be?

You can combine these conditions by sewing the size of the seat and back cushions of the following structure (from bottom to top): canvas or burlap - synthetic winterizer 5-7 mm - flannel, calico or bike - decorative fabric. To fix them, you will have to sew on straps that tie / fasten under the seat or behind the back, but it simplifies the manufacture of the chair itself and its care.

Second, avoid plastics. Today, for children's items, the safety of high-pressure polyethylene (produced without the use of catalysts) and PET has been unconditionally confirmed, but there are no suitable blanks from them for home craftsmanship. PVC seat upholstery is a relic of the past: when there were no diapers, diaper rash in babies was more common without it.

The next point is the size of the chair. A table of recommended sizes of highchairs for games and activities is shown in fig. The main selection parameter for it is the growth group. The height of the back is obtained by subtracting the height of the seat from the total height of the chair; in the highchair, it must be determined separately, because. his seat is raised for the comfort of the mother. The table was compiled for children's institutions, the dimensions of a chair for a child in a family can be found more accurately and simply: we look carefully at whom he went with height and complexion; about eyes, eyebrows, etc. disputes later. Then the parent-prototype shows which chair she/he is most comfortable in, take measurements from it and multiply by 0.55. A child on such a seat will be fine from about a year old to 4-5.

Note: Based on the foregoing, all dimensions of the following product samples are subject to adjustment if necessary.

materials

What to make a chair for a small question is also important. Metal is better either not to use at all, or in a small amount (for example, fasteners) and so that the child does not have access to it. Children's body generally hardier than an adult, but the skin of babies is very sensitive. This is determined by the instinct of self-preservation: what is simply slippery and a little cold for an adult, for a small one is a danger signal. Since he himself cannot yet avoid her, he has to appeal to his parents. How - whoever has children, they know. But they don’t always understand why, and from that, at least scream yourself.

For example, in fig. on the right - the erroneous use of steel fasteners.“Intensive exploitation of the corners” not only does not strengthen the structure, contrary to the assertions of its author, but is also traumatic for the baby. An adult's finger in the corner with a self-tapping screw will go unnoticed, and the baby may get scratched. In general, children do not care about scratches, but if he is regularly put for feeding in something biting, then how will this chair affect the child's psyche? The question is rhetorical.

Processing and finishing

So, we are practically left with only wood, MDF and laminated chipboard of class E0 in terms of the degree of phenol emission. In a high chair for a very young child, it is still better to get by with hardwood or MDF, they are completely without “chemistry”. Hypersensitivity to pine resin or trace phenolic compounds occurs in about 1 in 400,000 babies, but what is the guarantee that this is not yours? It is impossible to detect in advance.

The highchair for toddlers is exposed to external chemical attack about the same nature and to the same extent as a kitchen stool, but the sanitary and hygienic requirements for it are much stricter. Therefore, the parts of a children's high chair made of wood must be treated with a water-repellent and bactericidal composition before assembly, and the finished product should be covered with a protective layer.

There is also almost no alternative here: impregnation is a water-polymer emulsion or, instead, PVA diluted three or four times with water. Coating - water-based acrylic lacquer. There is no completely reliable evidence of complete safety for children of other compositions for processing / finishing furniture. Especially beware of stains; varnished children's furniture is best left as is. Design and decor in this case are by no means decisive factors.

About plywood

When making a highchair for the firstborn from wood, an amateur craftsman (who, perhaps, takes up furniture for the first time in his life) will have to face a number of technological difficulties, see below resp. section, not surmountable without a workshop and special tools. Plywood can help out; almost everything can be done from it at home. But - not everyone. Definitely suitable is a simple birch (not waterproof and not baked) and also a simple construction or packaging. The last one is the veneer of the so-called. dry pines, felled in winter. Dry wood pine already contains almost no resins, and during the manufacture of plywood, their residues are completely removed. These types of plywood are made on casein glue, which is absolutely safe for children. Moisture resistance and additional strength are given to them by the impregnation described above, but twice: again after complete drying (about a day) of the initial one.

About glue

PVA is most suitable for gluing and gluing in the manufacture of children's furniture in terms of the combination of qualities. Modern furniture pur-adhesives are much stronger, but also more expensive; for a product whose service life does not exceed 5-7 years, the first is insignificant, but the second can “bite”. But PVA has the following advantages:

  • It is absolutely harmless and safe, which has been verified by more than half a century of experience. As they say, at least eat it; even if liquid gets into the eyes, it is washed off without residue with water, if only rinsed immediately.
  • PVA streaks are easily cut off with a mounting knife, and their remains are also easily sanded clean.
  • The joint on the PVA can be separated by warming up properly with an ordinary household hair dryer. This is important if the high chair needs to be dismantled and put into storage until the next replenishment in the family. Also - if you need to replace its individual parts as the child grows, see below.

The very first chair

The most commonly used schemes for chairs for feeding children are as follows, in order of increasing manufacturing complexity:

  1. Stands / holders - boosters - for feeding the baby on an adult chair, hard and soft;
  2. Typical (classic) home folding high chairs;
  3. Children's sets-transformers and "growing" (for growth) chairs;
  4. Stationary chairs for feeding babies.

The latter are used either in children's institutions for the smallest, or in wealthy households with an excess of living space. In both cases, a high strength is required for a chair: many generations will use it in baby houses, and prestige is important for wealthy owners, and also design. As a result, a stationary chair for feeding children turns into a rather complex product, the manufacture of which requires special tools and production conditions; for an example, see the drawings in fig.

Boosters

These are attachments or devices for feeding a child on a chair and at a table for adults. Hard booster chairs (first 3 from left to right, pos. in the figure) save space in a small apartment, so they are quite popular.

However, it is impossible to make them fully comply with the requirements of children's ergonomics, this time. The second is for children from 6 to 9-12 months. they are of little use. Thirdly, soft attachments to an adult chair (leading manufacturers invest a lot of money in their development) do not give a full guarantee that the squishy fidget, delighted with his favorite juice, will not fall sideways with himself, a booster and dad's chair.

Much more practical are soft boosters for feeding babies, which are no longer chairs, but something like a kangaroo bag, on the right in the upper figure. You can’t use them constantly, there is a risk of spoiling the child’s posture. But at the dacha, picnic or on a trip, a feeding pocket - a booster is very useful, especially since it will hardly take up space in my mother's bag.

Making a soft booster for feeding a baby is already a more feminine thing, because. it is sewn; patterns are shown in fig; they are given without processing allowances.

Note: the slings are wound from the sides of the cape on the back of the chair from under the bottom, through the openings they are brought out and tied or fastened.

home classic

How the familiar folding highchair for feeding babies at home is arranged, and its dimensions are given in fig. Materials - timber 40x20, 75x20 (footboard and leg ties), 16x25 (back slats, seat apron, tabletop frame), board 100x20 (inserts into the frame of the front legs) and plywood 6-8 mm (seat, tabletop). Assembly, except for hinges - on confirmations (furniture screws) 60x6.

The connections marked in red are articulated: the table leans up, and the frame of the rear legs is pressed against the front ones. Bolt heads (M6-M8) from the inside and covered with plugs, red mark with an exclamation point. The seat is hung on the front support bar on card loops.

To fold the chair, the table is first raised and the frame of the rear legs is pulled back a little. Then the seat itself lowers, and the frame of the rear legs is fed forward to the stop - the chair is complicated. And when unfolded, all the kinematics of this chair is stopped without additional clamps according to the principle of a dead center, and let the little eater wriggle there as he wants - the chair under him will stand.

The only technological difficulty in the manufacture of this chair is the rallying of blanks for the sidewalls of the frame of the front legs on dowels (lamellas) in the mustache or dowels. But it can be bypassed by making the front frame plywood, see below. Its operational disadvantage is the thickness of more than 10 cm folded into a bag. For a pantry in a small apartment or a closet in the hallway, this can be too much. And here plywood comes to the rescue, see below.

Transformers and for growth

Children's chairs-transformers for all ages are on sale, 3 pos. on the left in Fig. They are really convenient and functional, but technologically complex: some of the necessary parts can only be made in the workshop at the factory. Accordingly, the cost of such chairs is quite high.

To repeat with your own hands, a kit is more accessible - a chair with a table, on the right in fig. What many do, but it immediately turns out that a set with a shift table takes up more space in the apartment than a high chair and a table separately.

But the main thing is that this building is unhygienic. When the child sits down at the table, the edge of the large tabletop closest to the floor in the feeding position will be under his arms in the literal sense. And also - the undersides of the legs in the position of 6-12 months, which have now become legs, and even uncomfortable protruding upwards.

There are no materials that do not scratch and do not give microcracks. It is impossible to remove stubborn dust from the floor from them, which is what microbes need. Changeling kits for young children have been on sale relatively recently, but cases have already been noted when they became foci of infection. From self-made from wood, the danger is only exacerbated.

The epidemic of fashion for transformable furniture (in this case, you can’t say otherwise) has given rise to real monsters in general, see fig. on right. When the child reaches the “table” age, the chair is simply ... sawn off, and the former supporting pyramid turns over and becomes a table. With the hygiene of a large countertop, everything is clear, see above. As with a too narrow table for feeding: there will be no food on the mother and on the floor, only if a specially programmed robot sits on the chair.

And yet, firstly, put yourself in the place of a child: there is a rigid fence on all sides. It remains, as they say, only to put on a chain. Secondly, a large table will be unusually rolled. Well, have you ever seen tables for adults, neat people, whose legs converge downwards? It’s funny, of course, but whoever starts this at home will probably not be laughing.

"Growing" chairs

In general, if we are talking about a small child, it is better not to experiment with transformable furniture, excluding proven folding designs. For example, let's take "growing" chairs, see fig. left. It’s really possible to sit on this from a fool to his dad, but it won’t be quite comfortable at any age. And in order to adapt the chair to outgrowth for feeding, it will have to be turned into a product comparable in complexity to a stationary chair for babies.

How to take everything from plywood

Highchairs for babies are very often made of plywood. Many homemade designs turn out to be quite practical and good-looking, on the left in fig. However, after the need has passed, it is hardly possible to adapt them for something else, the first. The second - see on the right in fig. scattered details. Waste of material - by eye at least 60% Although good plywood can be bought for 300 rubles / sheet 1550x1550, anyway, it would be desirable to do without now useless crooked scraps.

Here is the time to realize that an adult folding plywood chair-board is easily adapted for feeding a baby, see next. rice. Dad's for fishing or mom's garden, depending on who is in charge in the family. In terms of sanitation and hygiene, it is better, of course, to make this chair immediately for a small one, and let it go for adult use when it grows up.

From the remainder of cutting opening A, you will get 2 struts of a table for a child with L-shaped paws; grooves will need to be cut out under them in the sidewalls of the chair. For feeding a child, it is advisable to supplement such a chair with a fabric back: it will not reduce the comfort for adults, and it will not interfere with the chair hanging on the wall when folded. A small tabletop is attached to the struts on piano or card hinges, then the feeding table will also fold into a compact package.

Note: it is better to measure the dimensions of the struts according to a ready-made unfolded chair. This will be easier and more accurate than fiddling with trigonometry.

Another folding chair of the same type is shown in fig. on right. It is smaller, 500x750 when folded. Not bad because exactly 6 of these come out of a sheet of plywood 1550x1550, and they fit in the trunk of almost any car along the length. The letter w indicates the width of the cut. In general, look at your child, yourself and your needs.

Older chairs

At the age of about a year old, the child will already need a high chair, on which he can sit down, move it, rearrange it. Chairs for young children in the age category following babies are play (on the left in the figure below) and work / for classes, in the center. Working chairs for babies differ from play chairs primarily in armrests; they are necessary for the child to have the correct posture. Then, the seat height of the work chair can be immediately taken based on the oldest of the preschool ages, i.e. up to 400 mm. In this case, a footboard is needed; preferably changeable. The approximate dimensions of the highchair for babies of the "second stage" are given on the right, but, as mentioned above, they need to be specified according to the child.

Drawings of chairs for grown children are given on the next. rice. Left - gaming the simplest design. Legs of optimal length for a child of 12-36 months who often plays on the floor. Fasteners - wood screws 40x4.2.

Highchair for a child “like adults”

The chair on the right is already more complicated, its parts need to be marked on a grid and grooves should be cut to connect them. But it is universal, playful and working. Small protrusions of the sidewalls above the seat are enough so that a normally active child does not sit down, hanging half of the fifth point in the air. The seat height of 400 mm is the maximum for very young children. It can be made at first minimal, approx. 220 mm, and then change the sidewalls as they grow; it will take a little work and plywood, but mom will have something to say to dad on occasion. So, if dad is prudent, it’s better to immediately cut the sidewalls into outgrowth.

Such a chair, in principle, is simply assembled, like a puzzle. In the mobile version, say, for trips to the country, you can leave it like that. But with constant use, the chair will soon loosen, no matter how tight the joints are initially. Therefore, it is better for a child of this kind to glue PVA home chair. Dismantling if necessary put in storage - see above, about glue.

Finally, there is a category of children who, having barely realized themselves in this world, want everything to be like an adult. This is in general useful quality, but dad over the chair and other furniture for the child will have to work harder. The device and dimensions of the highchair "as in adults" are shown in fig. on right. A wooden chair of this design will require rather complex technological methods, but even in this case plywood will come to the rescue, see next. chapter.

Video: an example of a simple do-it-yourself mini-chair

Technology and plywood

To make a high chair, kids need to know or have to learn how to make some carpentry joints: on dowels, with the help of dowels (lamellas) and a tenon-groove. How they are made, for examples of carpentry, see the videos, arranged in order of increasing complexity:

Video #1: dowel connections

Video #2: Doweled gusset for frame structures (corner mitering)

Video #3: tongue and groove joint

Video #4: Keyed Straight Joint for Plank Board Ratcheting

As you can see, the houses are simple hand tool only pos. #1. Pos. # 2 and # 3 for a novice carpenter will turn out manually with sin in half, and for pos. #4 and a good professional cannot do without a workshop and special equipment. And now - ts-s! - all this can be done at home by a “full kettle”, using only a jigsaw and a little chisel. If the blanks of parts are assembled on glue from 3 layers of plywood with a thickness, respectively, in 1/3 of the required one. Among other things, this technology makes it possible to assemble complex-shaped parts from small-sized fragments, which makes it possible to denser, i.e. economically, cut the material.

How direct and angular tongue-and-groove joints are performed in this way is shown in pos. 1 and 2 fig. resp. If the spike is made trapezoidal with rounded corners, then the strength of the joint will increase several times, i.e. will be sufficient for adult furniture. In production, this technology is not used - it is tedious and therefore unprofitable, but at home it’s better than buying or renting a machine for 60-100 thousand rubles.

To glue a package of blanks into a PVA part, you also do not need any special devices:

  • Lay plastic wrap on a flat floor or table.
  • Both glued surfaces are lubricated with a thin layer of glue; better to use a brush.
  • Withstand adhesive layers until semi-dry tack, when the adhesive film begins to become translucent at the edges.
  • Fold the blanks into a bag and press.
  • The package is covered with another layer of film and oppression is placed on it from dispersed cargo (books, for example) at the rate of at least 20 kg per 1 sq. m of glued area.

Note: because the workpieces in the bag during gluing may “float away” a little, they need to be cut with an allowance of 1-2 mm for finishing.

Angled tongue-and-groove joint must be reinforced with self-tapping screws with a diameter of not more than 0.5 of the thickness of the stud, a pair per stud. For example, if a part is 15 mm thick from 3 layers of 5 mm each, then the diameter of the hardware is 2-2.5 mm. Glue is applied to the spike and into the groove; the first is introduced into the latter, as soon as the glue begins to peel off (after 2-3 minutes), and then the connection is pulled together with hardware.

How to screw screws

In the above and all other cases of fastening parts with self-tapping screws, it is necessary to pre-drill blind holes with a diameter into the body (rod) of a self-tapping screw without thread and a depth of 2/3 of the length of its threaded part. Also, a hole is pre-selected for the head of the self-tapping screw. After screwing, the head is covered with putty from sawdust of the same plywood on the same PVA; in 1 volume of glue, you can enter up to 2.5-3 volumes of sawdust.

Finally

Well, now on a new thing - new experiences and bon appetit. Just don’t throw porridge for joy, your parents tried hard.

The procedure for feeding a baby should be as safe and convenient as possible for both him and his mother. The high chair is an original structure that easily turns into a place for playing or learning. The stable design is equipped with additional protection measures that will protect the little one from falling out and give mom the opportunity to do household chores.

Is this chair really necessary?

Most young parents will answer unequivocally - yes!

This unanimity stems from a number of factors:

  • small-sized design is complemented by adjustable or play, which means saving space in the apartment;
  • there are chairs with a perspective that can be used for at least 6 years - there is a cost savings;

  • a certain freedom of movement combined with the minimization of traumatic situations - a healthy psychological atmosphere;
  • direct contact with the baby during cleaning or cooking - rational use time;

  • sitting on such a chair at a common table, the child feels at home among adults - he is calm and confident;
  • the kid unobtrusively masters the lessons of etiquette - an educational moment.

Plastic or natural materials

The wooden table and chair for feeding, which appeared several centuries ago, serves as the basic model for the production of plastic products. Needless to say, each material has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Wooden chair

Product from natural material outwardly beautiful, looks good in any environment and is different:

  • strength,
  • durability;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • aesthetics.

The functionality of wooden chairs is more modest and mainly lies in the possibility of:

  • adjustment of the angle of inclination of the back;
  • transformation from a low table with a chair to a high chair.

The disadvantages of the design include:

  • bulkiness even when folded, which is unacceptable for a small apartment;

  • cases are not always included;
  • the presence of edges and corners;
  • some difficulties in surface care.

Note!
Assurances that wooden high chairs are heavy and expensive are unfounded.
The analysis showed that the average weight of the product is 8–12 kg (the mass of plastic products is on average from 6 to 12.5 kg).
Domestic models - "Baby", "Xenia" cost about 2,000 rubles, "Chinese" - from 5 to 18,000 rubles.
So everything is relative.

plastic chairs

The possibilities of plastic are much wider and the product is inherent in:

  • rich color palette;
  • varied performance;
  • the possibility of turning into a sun lounger;

  • rounded lines that significantly reduce the risk of injury;
  • soft case made of waterproof material.

Note!
The main disadvantage of a plastic product lies in its artificiality.
Low price and too bright colors should arouse your suspicion, and you have the right to demand a certificate of quality, relying on the decency of the manufacturer.

Plastic chairs have three models:

  • transformer - adjustable height of the chair and tabletop, you can fold, change the angle of the backrest. When the child grows up, the design can be easily turned into a separate table and chair, which will become a workplace for the child;
  • booster - a stand-alone model that can stand on the floor or be attached to a regular chair;

  • hanging - weighs about 2 kg, thanks to elongated handles and a special lever, it is easily attached to the tabletop and can "travel" with you and your child.

Let's do our best for the baby

It will not be difficult for the master craftsman to do it. You can buy blanks for parts at a hardware store, and ask friends for missing tools. You can choose the dimensions that will fit into the footage of the apartment, and come up with your own design of the product and soft cover.

Note!
Without carpentry skills, you can study before work design features products in the store, study the assembly instructions, make the necessary notes, and even sketch out a rough drawing of a wooden highchair that you will improve at home.

You will need these tools:

  • hammer;
  • saw;
  • jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • clamp;
  • chisel;
  • sandpaper;
  • stapler;
  • hammer.

in number necessary materials includes:

  • board 2 cm thick for planks and roundings on handles (for the part to be strong, wood fibers must cross an imaginary radius at an angle of 90 °);
  1. From the same board, cut the crossbars.
  2. Sand the blanks.
  3. Mark the connection points - roundings with fragments of railings and cross-beams with legs.
  4. Make holes for the dowels by drilling several holes side by side with a thin drill and adjust the size with a chisel.

Note!
Manufacturing small parts may turn out to be difficult.
It will be easier to buy them in the store.
If you cut them yourself, do not confuse - the diameter of each hole must exactly match its dowel.

Now you can start assembling the product:

  1. Connect the side parts - legs with crossbars. Put the dowels on the glue.
  2. Check for proper articulation angle.
  3. Fix with a clamp and leave to dry for as long as the instructions for use recommend.
  4. In the same way, connect the resulting H-shaped fragments with the upper part of the handrails and roundings.
  5. Fix, let the glue dry.

  1. Sand the finished sides.
  2. Saw a few parts of the back and seat from a sheet of fiberboard - 2-3 layers will give them strength.
  3. Glue them with PVA.
  4. Place under a press and leave to dry.
  5. Connect the side parts of the chair with transverse slats at the bottom and at the level of the back in draft form to mark the places of their connection, as well as the seats and backs.

  1. Upholster the seat and back with an easy-care and hygienic material, placing foam rubber under it for softness. You can fix the material from the inside with a stapler.
  2. Safety straps.
  3. Now thoroughly connect the side parts with the transverse slats on which you place the seat. The backrest is attached to the support bar.

  1. Treat the surface with sandpaper and varnish.

Note!
Do not forget about the mandatory presence of safety straps, for which you can use, for example, a corsage tape (sold in a sewing supplies store).

In conclusion

A high chair can bring amazing harmony to your home. Mom, being inseparable from her baby, gets a certain freedom of action. A securely fixed child acquires a personal space where he can eat, play, take a nap. Sitting on a small throne, the child unobtrusively adopts the experience of communication from the parents.

If you do not know how to make a high chair yourself, the video in this article will help you.
