We decided to make squash caviar. The question arose, how to grind zucchini?

Blender too small and weak for such tasks, and the meat grinder is not able to grind into a homogeneous paste.

Small lumps remain, and the caviar turns out to be grainy. Therefore, I decided to make a large and powerful blender from a drill that every DIYer has.

The design turned out to be so simple that it does not require any drawings and is literally done "on the knee".

Materials and tools

  • Drill. (every do-it-yourselfer has);
  • PVC pipe 50 mm (plumbing shop);
  • PVC pipe plug 50 mm. (there)
  • Metal chrome tube with a diameter of 16 mm (furniture fittings store);
  • Plastic dowels for 14 and 8 mm. (building materials store);
  • Self-tapping screws 16 mm with a wide hat (ibid.);
  • Screws M8 and M6. (ibid.);
  • Blades for a mounting knife (household goods);
  • Clamp 50 mm (ibid.);
  • Empty tin can (trash can)

Making a blender

The blender consists of 3 nodes.

1 - drive, 2 - housing, 3 - knife shaft.

Since an ordinary drill acts as a drive, we will consider the remaining 2 nodes.

Production of a knife shaft

Since the most time-consuming is the knife shaft, we will start with it.
Most optimal solution, it is at one end of a bar with a diameter of 9 mm to cut an M6 internal thread to a depth of 20 mm. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to lathe(can be done without a lathe, but troublesome), therefore, there is a second very technological option. At the end of a steel tube with a diameter of 10 mm. hammer in a plastic dowel with a diameter of 8 mm. And screw an M6 screw with knives into it. But I have never seen steel tubes with a diameter of 10 mm for sale anywhere. Therefore, those for whom the first and second options are unacceptable choose the third. This is the use of a 16 mm tube, which can be bought at any furniture hardware store. You should buy with the thickest walls. Because they are different...

A 14 mm dowel is driven into one end of this tube. and the next dowel is hammered into this dowel by 8 mm and into the dowel 8 mm. the M6 ​​screw is screwed in. Since it is impossible to clamp a 16 mm tube directly in an ordinary drill chuck, at the opposite end, we also hammer a 14 mm dowel into which the M8 screw is screwed. We leave 30 mm of the protruding screw for clamping in the drill chuck, cut off the rest. Only in this option, it must be taken into account that the optimal length of the knife shaft (without knives and the part that is clamped in the chuck) is 100 mm, and the length of the dowel 14 mm is 80 mm.
it makes sense to shorten the dowels to 50 mm.


We figured out the tube, now - fastening the knives. On an M6 screw with a wide flat head, we put it through washers (I used 2 washers between each knife) 4 blades for a mounting knife broken off to desired length. We arrange the knives crosswise and tighten with a nut. We screw this screw with knives into the dowel 8 mm. It is very tight, but holds securely. So, the knife shaft is ready.

Case manufacturing


The body is made from PVC pipes with a diameter of 50 mm, plugs for this pipe, and a tin can. And another collar.

We cut off the thickening for the rubber cuff from the pipe socket, since it is not needed.
Next, we take a suitable shallow empty tin can and drill a 1-2 mm hole in the center of the bottom. larger than the knife shaft diameter. We drill the same hole in the center of the plug. Along the perimeter of the can, we drill several holes with a diameter of 10 - 12 mm to exit the ground mass (Drilling holes in a tin can is much more convenient with feather drills for wood). We combine the tin can with the cap, and fasten it with self-tapping screws.


We put the pipe on the plug and also fix it with self-tapping screws. In order for the pipe to fit tightly on the plug, several turns of electrical tape should be wound around the latter.


We measure the length of the knife shaft fixed in the cartridge, and adjust the body to this size. In the upper part we make 2 slots with a depth of 30 mm.


Since the inner diameter of the pipe is slightly larger than the diameter of the neck of the drill, we need a gasket, which we will make from the rest of the same pipe. We cut off a ring 20 mm high and cut out a section of 15 mm from this ring. Glue the ring inside extension cord so you don't get lost.


We glue on one point so that there is a possibility of compression. Next, we apply the extension to the neck of the drill (or simply measure it with a ruler, which is somewhat more accurate :), mark the location of the turnkey hole on it, and drill it with a 20 mm drill.


The body is ready.

By the way, I forgot to write. If there is no suitable empty can at home, you can replace it with any suitable lid, or use a plug for a 100 mm pipe. What will look much "firmer" :)


We put the body on the drill until it is finally fixed, insert the knife shaft into the previously spaced cams, turn the body until the key hole on the body matches the socket on the chuck, tighten the shaft with the key, and finally fix the body with a clamp.

All. As they say, the design does not require adjustment and starts working immediately when turned on.

It also grinds into a homogeneous mass potatoes for pancakes, which previously had to be manually ground on the smallest grater, because the meat grinder leaves lumps, apples for applesauce, crushes nuts for cookies and much more.

P.S. Since I had a steel tube with a diameter of 10 mm, which I cut off from the next leaky towel warmer before throwing it away, I used the second option when making the knife shaft.

It seems that some nonsense has broken, but the thing has become partially functional and can no longer perform the main function. A new thing is bought, and the broken one is put on the back burner until better times (the desire to repair, come up with something) ... Story: My mother-in-law had a Ufesa blender. Like this.

Faithfully served for several years, until one day she decided to cook mashed potatoes with it. And it was impossible to do this for this blender model, since the adapter from the motor to the knife shaft is made of plastic. From the temperature, this clutch simply turned around and stopped transmitting rotation. The motor is running but the blades are not spinning. The nozzle is non-separable.

The clutch was removed from the shaft and I went to repair shops looking for a replacement. As it turned out, they don’t make such spare parts, they don’t repair such malfunctions, and they generally advised me to buy a new one, since this model is no longer produced. So a new blender appeared ... And the broken one went to the bins to await its fate, where it could be adapted ...

And one day, wandering through the expanses of aliexpress in the DIY sections, I came across such cartridges for motors. Such a chuck allows you to clamp drills from 0.3 to 4 mm.


They also sold adapters for different diameter shaft.
Bingo! The diameter of the motor shaft was measured and a cartridge with an adapter for a 5mm shaft was ordered.
After some time, I received an envelope with a cartridge, a key, a hexagon and an adapter.

Now it was the turn of the patient.
From the outside, no fastening is visible, I had to start with a button.


The button is held on by snaps. In an attempt to remove the button, the push rod of the button itself was broken. However, in the future it will not be useful to us.


Under the button was a single torx mounting screw.


The screw was unscrewed with an ordinary flat screwdriver and the cover was removed. Upon removal, it turned out that there are still two plastic hinges at the outlet...


The inclusion was carried out in this way. The button stem pressed on the spring-loaded contact, when the 220V was closed, it was supplied to the control circuit and the motor turned on.


This button is not very convenient when working with a dremel, you need to keep it pressed all the time. Therefore, we will replace the button with a key switch.

The motor itself is pulled out of the clamping contacts without problems.


IMPORTANT Note which side the motor is mounted on. If you install the motor on the other side (turning the motor around the axis of rotation by 180 degrees), then the contacts will change and the motor will rotate in the other direction.
If anyone needs such functionality, then it is enough to install a switching toggle switch that changes these contacts.

insert the sleeve with buttons. It is possible not to return this sleeve with buttons to its place, then through the holes for the buttons there will be access to the screws securing the adapter to the shaft. But I thought that it looks more aesthetically pleasing with closed holes.

We close the case.

Due to the shape of the case, such a dremel cannot be fixed on the table, only held in hands. However, I also have a regular dremel with fastening.

The engine in the old mixer has good power, its performance has been tested by time. You can make a boron machine useful in everyday life with your own hands, for this you will additionally need only a motor from a portable mixer, 2 jars: from coffee and a freshener, the diameter of one should be slightly larger, and a small piece of decorative leather.

The step by step process is as follows.

  1. and remove the 220 volt motor.
  2. The fan must be moved as close as possible to the engine, for this it will be necessary to remove all unnecessary elements that are fixed from the fan base to the shaft housing. They do not carry any functional load on the future product. After that, it is necessary to screw the fan to the end of the shaft leg.
  3. Next, you need to cut off the top of the freshener jar to the beginning of the narrowing point.
  4. The cut top should fit perfectly into the opening of the second coffee can. For reliability, it can be fixed with cold welding and wait for complete solidification. First, you need to make small holes in a circle at a distance of 2-3 mm from the edge, which will serve for additional air exchange during fan operation.
  5. After welding hardens, it is necessary to insert an empty bearing of the same size into the remaining hole for future fixation of the bur, then carefully press the hole with a hammer. After that, cover all voids from the inside with epoxy.
  6. Cut a rectangular hole in the jar to output control to outer part. Then insert the motor inside the housing and fix it on metal frame, which should be pre-welded or used from improvised means.
  7. To close the bottom, you can use a metal drain from the sink, the holes will serve for additional air exchange. It should be welded using liquid welding.
  8. After assembling the equipment, its body should be ennobled with a piece of leather.

In the finished bur, you need to put a washer on the nozzle to the shaft or tighten any fastener. With your own hands, with zero investment, you get a universal device with which you can create real masterpieces in everyday life.

Mixer disassembly

If the mixer is no longer working, and we have already come up with the use of the flask, there is no need to rush to throw away the case with the engine. You can disassemble it and pick up something useful for future alterations. The disassembly process must be carried out as follows.

  1. Loosen the connecting screws with a screwdriver.
  2. Visually determine the cause of an engine malfunction in order to understand which of the internal parts or assemblies may come in handy later.
  3. From an idle engine after disassembly, you need to pay attention to the following components and elements:
    • mode switch;
    • light bulb indicator;
    • engine. If it is disassembled, the rotor and stator can be used later;
    • wires;
    • coil with copper wiring;
    • network wire.

So, finally, the good old mixer can serve as spare parts in future alterations.

The principle of operation of the blender

Nature has created three types of blenders:

The knife is at the bottom. When the electric motor transmits torque to the blade through the output shaft and spindle, the speed of the latter increases rapidly. Due to the speed (thousands of revolutions every minute), the effect of the movement of the crushed mass is obtained. The envelope of a blender blade resembles a propeller. The crosspiece pulls fruits and vegetables on top of itself, and discards chopped pieces to the sides.

Then the profile of the bowl comes into play, twisting the movement of the food mass. The walls expand upwards, so under the pressure of the stream coming out of the knife, the mash begins to creep up. In the center, pieces of food fall down. The processed mass reaches the lid, falls again on the knives. The described process proceeds at an unimaginable speed.

The considered cycle occurs ideally in strong blenders. Cheap household models do not have enough speed to establish a closed movement. The knife cuts through the void. Therefore, wanting to chop the cabbage, the cook is forced to add water. The step releases the laws of hydrodynamics, which come into play, making the work of knives easier. Therefore, the first! Before fixing the blender (which may not have broken):

  • If a low-power blender does not want to grind the mass, the fact does not indicate a 100% malfunction. Try adding water, milk, juice, repeat the process.
  • A simple fact means: the blender has a dull knife, the speed switch is broken, the engine lacks the necessary power. Masters say: the problem affects the bowl. More precisely, it lies in the rotating connection of the knife.

Blender blade replacement

As for the blender knife, it is unlikely that you will be able to sharpen the blade by hand at home. Get a new one, there are 3 scenarios waiting for the development of events:

  1. First, the knife is sold as a separate spare part. In this case, remove the old one. An old, clean towel will help. We wrap the blender knife with a rag, unscrew it from the spindle. Blender speed controller

Frequent blender problems are related to the speed switch. Only the master can fully check the performance. If there is knowledge of radio engineering, try ringing the part first. Surely it will be immediately clear whether this is the reason for the strange behavior of the blender. The switch is removed from the device (soldered), the positions are checked in full. Naturally, during normal operation, the contacts should alternately give a short circuit, switching the corresponding windings of the electrical heart of the device.

In parallel, try the method described above. Turn on the device, listen to how the engine behaves, working out fixed speeds. A pattern is characteristic: the blender knife moves faster, the buzz is stronger. Advanced models have a lock against turning on without a bowl.

Note that the safety detail was introduced in the 20s of the twentieth century, when the blender was just invented. The patent applicant emphasized: the engine starts when the bowl is installed. Therefore, we consider the option to be a classic in full measure.

If the blender stops

Happened, the device refuses to work. The situation is resolved easier than in the case when the blender is too lazy to cut, does not grind.

First, strain your hearing by turning on the device. If a buzzing sound is noticeable, then it is probably a jammed knife. When buzzing with the button on is not registered, we examine the power supply path:

  1. First of all, we check the presence of the outlet voltage. Practice shows that most problems are solved at this stage. The blender, like other household appliances, breaks relatively rarely. Plug in a known working table lamp or something stronger. If correct, proceed to the second procedure.
  2. To check the cord, we disassemble the blender body. We turn off the device from the network, take a screwdriver. Rare foreign models will require special heads. Avoid trying to make a homemade version of the fuse, a rash step will surely cause a fire. The new one is cheap. In the open circuit with a tester (multimeter), measure the supplied voltage. When there is nowhere else to measure the mains voltage (230 volts), the fuse slot will do.
  4. It happens that a new fuse instantly fails. There is a short circuit inside the blender. The problem affects the integrity of the motor windings, electronic circuits. We alternately try to connect energy consumers one at a time to the source, we observe the result. Masters recommend using a handicraft bug that can withstand the emerging electricity. We connect a multimeter, measure the amperes. The operation is done extremely quickly, otherwise there is a chance that traffic jams will be knocked out at home. The measured value is used when calculating the power. If the figure obviously exceeds that indicated by the passport, the faulty unit has been found. As mentioned above, problematic blocks: blender motor, printed circuit boards.
  5. If the described operations led to the belief that there is power, we undertake to inspect the printed circuit boards. We examine the capacitors for swelling, the resistors for traces of burning. Tracks should not be broken, flake off from the substrate. A defect was found from the listed signs - the cause of the blender malfunction is limited to the electronic filling. If the engine is short-circuited, the equipment cannot be restored. Hand blenders often use commutator motors, motors can work powered by direct and alternating currents. In simple models, power buttons are available, directly brush contacts. For spark extinguishing, capacitors are attached near the rotor. Let's say more, in addition to capacitors, varistors that short-circuit power surges, protecting the windings from combustion. In the simplest models, thermal fuses are placed among the turns. If it burns out, the components should be replaced with new ones. Internals of hand blenders

Collector motors are equipped with stabilization circuits, but the simplest blenders are devoid of frills. Varistors are an important part of many devices, they protect more than one motor. In switching power supplies, an overload-induced shutdown of high-frequency generators occurs with a short circuit of the current to the fuses. The result is protection. A malfunction is detected by replacing the fuse with a light bulb: on - the power is turned off, continuing to troubleshoot.

The simplest collector motor is formed by a pair of stator windings, a good bunch of rotary ones. Under the brushes there is a drum broken into sections. Each pair of opposite contacts is equipped with a closing coil. Making sure that the blender is working, ring each one by rotating the shaft by hand. Bearings are often considered the weak point. There are two nodes - front and rear. The lion's share of the load falls on the latter. HADO is used for lubrication. After application, the composition causes the formation of a ceramic film, which temporarily improves glide, protecting the surface.

In hand blenders, such solutions are reluctantly used, the switching element is very hot, there is simply nowhere to place a huge radiator. However, by applying a simple speed adjustment, you will greatly facilitate the life of the hostess.

Underwater reefs have been identified:

  1. Sharp changes in voltage consumption require filtering (jumps) in the power circuit, causing sharp drops in the external network. The effect is noted when working from a generator.
  2. Speed ​​control is a valuable quality, but if the power increases sharply during dough kneading, the blender will be torn out of the hands of the hostess, good is not enough. It is more useful for calm women to buy a blender at home that gives out constant power, regardless of the dish being prepared.

In advanced models, the blender device is complemented by speeds. More often we see individual buttons that are pressed continuously, forcing the engine to work. Made for a reason. At times, a thermal fuse is placed between the turns of the motor (mentioned above). The switching power supply works according to the ordinary scheme. At the input, the voltage is filtered by capacitors, chokes, resistors, the signal passes through a high-frequency power transistor (even two). The process is controlled by a microchip generator that supplies voltage to the control gate. At the output, the voltage is filtered if necessary, less often rectified.

Frequent breakdown - burnout of the winding. Try to buy products equipped with fuses. Simplify your own life unspeakably.

The commutator motors are controlled with a voltage cutoff circuit when a smooth transition is required. In the case of two or three fixed speeds, there is probably no need for such a scheme. The sinusoid is truncated by a certain section along the positive and negative half-wave. The effective value decreases, naturally causing a decrease in the revolutions of the collector motor shaft. As already mentioned, kitchen appliances are often equipped with trivial regulation. It is unlikely that the repair of the Vitek blender will require a deep knowledge of circuitry.

We add that reusable thermal fuses have been noticed, after operation after a specified period of time, restoring the circuit. Others are designed for 100 cycles of work.
