Let's explain for the news: a tourist was arrested for bikini on the beach

If the lady from Marshak's children's poem traveled by plane, it would not be so easy for her to check in a picture, a basket and a cardboard box. A dog without a passport would not have been allowed on board at all. It is almost impossible to remember all the details, what, why, how and where you can take it. But the main thing is to know where to turn. Start your dive in wonderful world the rules for transporting everything in a row on an airplane from our article.

For navigation:

How much weight does the plane lift?

The weight of an aircraft is a non-constant value, consisting of a bunch of interrelated variables. The maximum takeoff weight of an aircraft is set during production, but what it will consist of varies from flight to flight.

First, you need to remember that the types of aircraft are different: from small Embraer E-175 to wide-body Boeing 777, where there can be 10 seats in one row.

Secondly, the flight distance matters: the amount of fuel required depends on it. Therefore, large aircraft fly over long distances: they have more wing lift and they can carry more people and luggage that make up the commercial load. Fuel, by the way, is calculated before the flight, depending on the load of the cabin - and who loaded it, a children's camp of thin seven-year-olds or imposing men. And also from the weather, the range of the alternate airfield, the inherent need to refuel somewhere in the middle of the road ... Oh, everything is difficult there.

In airplanes, in principle, there is a different passenger capacity, and it does not directly depend on its type. In the same aircraft model, there may be different distances between the seats, there may or may not be first and business classes. There is already a field of entertainment for the airline. For charter companies, for example, it is unprofitable to make privileged classes: the more passengers you can carry, the more tickets you can sell, everything is in the black.

When loading the luggage compartment, not only the tonnage matters, but also the volume. Simply put: the load can be large, but light (like a batch of duvets), or it can be small, but weighty. If the load is heavy, there is a limit on the load on the floors. And dangerous goods require more space around them. Whole science.

So the total allowable weight of the luggage compartment, as well as the entire aircraft as a whole, with fuel and a corpulent aunt Manya in the next seat, will always be different. Smart people therefore, they deduced the average weight of luggage and hand luggage with the expectation that someone will take less, and someone will pay for the excess. Baggage can weigh 20, 23, 25 kg, hand luggage - 5, 7, 8, 10 kg, depending on the airline. And in 99% of cases, this will be written in detail on the itinerary receipt.

Liquids

For hand luggage, the rules are quite strict. In total, you can carry no more than 1 liter of liquid (duty-free rum does not count), but each bottle can be no more than 100 ml in volume. "On the bottom" will not work: this is the case when not only the amount of liquid matters, but also the size of the bottle. And in an ideal world, all vials and bottles should be folded into a resealable transparent bag.

In fact, far from everywhere they look to ensure that all liquids are packed in the notorious transparent bag 18 × 20 cm. At Moscow airports, no one pays attention to this additional packaging. But at the airport of the same Marseille, if you, God forbid, put nail polishes or mini-shampoo in different places, you will be forced to collect them all over your suitcase and put them in a bag, which they will give you, careless, anyway . It’s easier to prepare in advance and not be that bad person, because of which the entire queue for inspection is slowed down.

Anything over 100 ml goes in checked baggage. It is forbidden to transport flammable liquids in any form, so you will have to look for something to kindle a fire on the spot. Radioactive, poisonous and toxic, too, no-no. Liquefied gases, oxidizing agents and organic peroxides are also prohibited, except for hydrogen peroxide. Play chemists at home.

How to bring alcohol on a plane

The amount of alcohol per passenger is regulated by customs. For example, 3 liters of alcohol per person over 18 years of age can be imported duty-free into the territory of the Russian Federation, with a duty - up to 5 liters; V different countries the rules are different. Drinking brought with you and bought in duty-free alcohol on board is prohibited. While your neighbor in the back might drink a dozen small bottles of whiskey, it's generally not allowed. This habit may come back to haunt him in the future, when the blacklists of airlines will become not the exception, but the rule.

water on the plane

You can take water with you on the plane, but only the one that you buy at exorbitant prices at the airport after passing through security. Your bottle will be asked to discard ahead of time because it is clearly over 100 ml. At many airports in a clean zone there are fountains with drinking water, which you can fill a stocked bottle with, but civilization has not reached everywhere yet.

How to carry perfume and toilet water on a plane

Eau de toilette is also water, but special. In hand luggage, it is subject to general rules transportation of liquids (no more than 100 ml, but you can buy a large bottle in duty free). But some countries have import restrictions. In Ireland, for example, you can not import more than 50 ml of perfume and 250 ml of toilet water. If you are not going to barry with perfumes, this will be enough for you.

How to carry food on an airplane

In the case of food, it is not so much the rules of transportation directly on the plane that are important, but the customs regulations of the countries between which you are flying. Moreover, concerning both import and export. Well, sanctions, where without it.

You can't officially bring food into the US. This does not stop some people who go to visit American friends from carrying a jar of caviar, so they make stone faces during the inspection in the States. But in general, joking with American customs officers and border guards is very risky.

The French won't let you out with cheese in your hand luggage. They will take the yummy for themselves and not wince. If the soul requires a kilo of Brie or Roquefort, check it in your luggage. Or buy in duty-free, but the choice and prices there will not be the same as in a shop in the city.

Is it possible to carry caviar, fish and other seafood on an airplane

From the territory of Russia, you can export up to 5 kg of fish and seafood and up to 250 g of sturgeon caviar in the original packaging with store receipts. Beyond this, it is impossible to export the riches of the sea. And to import - up to 5 kg of products of plant origin (except for seeds, seed material, planting material, potatoes) and up to 5 kg of animal products. The latter can only be ready-made and in the original packaging. And we also periodically introduce bans and restrictions on the import of products from certain countries, which you also need to read about before the trip. The list of products prohibited for import into Russia can be viewed on the website of the Rosselkhoznadzor.

Meat, sausage, fruits

This also applies to meat and fruits, which simply cannot be imported from a number of countries. Most likely, they will not let you on the plane with a whole watermelon, because it can burst. And with a coconut, the peel of which cannot be enlightened during the examination. The rules for exporting products from exotic countries like Thailand need to be checked with the air carrier. You still won’t import more than 5 kg, as we remember, but they will tell you with proper packaging.

Special rules may apply to anything with a strong smell. Even with lemons from a customs-friendly country, they may not be allowed on board, because the pungent smell of citrus fruits will displease other passengers. So those same Frenchmen who take away your cheese are just taking care of the neighbors in the cabin, yes.

It's the same story with sausage. They may prohibit taking it in hand luggage because of the aroma, and it is clearly not a product of first necessity in flight. Plus, it is impossible to import products of animal origin into many countries: you never know, all of a sudden you will bring some kind of epidemic. With bacon, the same trouble (if it is in factory packaging - ok; if it is homemade, then the way is ordered for it). So again: read the customs regulations of the country of destination!

Honey, canned food, cakes

  • Honey and oils, unless otherwise specified by customs regulations, can be carried in the same way as any liquids. Small containers will easily fly to their destination on an airplane, a large place in luggage.
  • canned food it is worth checking in luggage, banks - depending on their volume. A small glass jar of jam or the same honey in hand luggage has never harmed anyone.
  • If the stars align so that you need to carry on the plane cake, then know: formally, you can carry cakes. But, just in case, ask the airline. They might be a little surprised. Or regard the cake as liquid in some places, and there you already remember the rules yourself.
  • What no one will forbid is chocolates, bars, muesli, cookies and other sweets in factory packaging. Kilograms of all kinds of overseas sweets or a light snack for late flights are not withdrawn.

Baby food on the plane

Baby food is a special article. It does not have to fit into the 100 ml norm, it can be taken on board if you are flying with a child. This also applies diet food. At the same time, powders and baby food in the amount of 12 ounces or 350 ml are prohibited in the United States.

Is it possible to carry hookahs, IQOS, vape, lighters and cigarettes on the plane

As for all kinds of things for smoking: you can take it, you can’t use it. In terms of actual transportation, vapes, electronic cigarettes and IQOS are more likely to fall under the concept of electronics (more on that below). You need to take all this stuff into the cabin, you can’t charge it from sockets on the plane.

  • In the vast majority of airlines, smoking is prohibited in the cabin, including electronic cigarettes. IQOS is a new thing, it is not yet mentioned in the ads, but in fact it is almost the same device, except that there is no water in it. Therefore, you cannot use IQOS on board an aircraft.
  • On some (especially American) airlines, it happens that people calmly smoke a vape right in the cabin, and the flight attendants pass by. But this is more an exception than a rule: smoke detectors have not been canceled. You will then, like the poor Chinese, warm up in Anadyr due to an emergency landing when these sensors are triggered.
  • Nothing prohibits taking a hookah with you, but in many southern countries, where they are usually dragged from, all parts, except for a glass flask, are asked to be checked in. Since the tube can be used as a weapon.
  • Information for conservatives: the amount of imported tobacco products is regulated by the customs of each specific country. Usually, this is 200 cigarettes per person (one block), or 50 cigarillos, or 250 g of tobacco. In a number of eastern countries, where the healthy lifestyle has not yet reached, they allow more.
  • Well, and more important for smokers - a disposable lighter can almost always be carried in hand luggage (one piece per person). TO gasoline lighters like the Zippo, this is not the case; they cannot be carried on most airlines.

Medicines and syringes

This also depends on the country. In the UAE, for example, this is terribly strict: the import of antipyretics, painkillers and many other medicines is very limited. Even elementary Corvalol or Pentalgin cannot be imported. It is also difficult with codeine-containing drugs (although it is easy for someone with them), as well as with antidepressants. To travel to Australia, you need to get prescriptions for everything, because they are catastrophically attentive to the import of drugs. Analgin cannot be imported into the USA. If you have questions or need, it is better to study the customs regulations of the country of destination and drug components in advance or consult the embassy.

Usually, medicines are asked to be carried in their original packaging, and not to pour all the pills in a row into one jar. This is logical. In fact, most customs officers do not care, but in order to avoid unnecessary hassle, it is better to do it according to science.

Prescription drugs require a prescription. And by this word, we mean not a sticker with an advertisement for the drug, on which the district doctor is training to write illegibly, but a real document with stamps and other delights.

You need to be prepared for the fact that in hand luggage, each tablet can raise a question. A case from practice: on departure (!) From Tunisia, the inspection service, standing over a gutted bag, demanded a prescription for noshpa for half an hour.

In principle, this is usually not very scary: already on the flight home to lose standard tablets from the abdomen or head. But if this happens on flights far from home or with expensive drugs, it's not so fun anymore. Therefore, it is better to hide important tablets in a suitcase, and take only the necessary minimum with you into the cabin. Or, if you are flying without luggage, play it safe with prescriptions.

To transport syringes and needles, you must also obtain medical documents confirming the need to fly with them. This is especially true for people with an insulin-dependent form of diabetes, so that no one has an absurd requirement to take insulin in luggage - this drug must be handled with care, and the luggage compartment of an aircraft does not imply this. Hypodermic needles cannot be brought in without a medical justification.

Weapons and folding knives

According to the rules of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, you can carry crossbows, spearguns, checkers, sabers, cleavers, scimitars, broadswords, swords, swords, bayonets, daggers, knives with ejected blades, with locking locks, imitators of any type of weapon.

Other weapons (for example, air pistols) can also be transported with all the pieces of paper, if there is no restriction, as is often introduced during international sporting events. When checking in for a flight, you must inform the representatives of the airline that you are carrying a weapon. At Aeroflot, such passengers are asked to arrive early and check in no later than an hour and a half before departure.

On domestic flights, the owner of the weapon must have an appropriate permit; when importing or exporting weapons, a permit must be issued by the authorized body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Be prepared for the fact that weapons will be taken away for “temporary storage” on departure, and will be issued only at the destination airport. It must be transported unloaded in proper packaging (holster, case, etc.), and ammunition must travel separately. The weight of these same ammunition should not exceed 5 kg per passenger. Cartridges for gas weapons are prohibited for transportation by air. In addition, the circulation of imported electroshock devices is prohibited, that is, you cannot buy a shocker abroad and bring it to Russia.

Some countries have their own peculiarities. For example, Vietnam and Belarus require air pistols to be handed over with the obligatory execution of the Transfer Certificate, and Spain went even further - they need any weapon, even fake ones, to be marked with special tags.

Important: even an imitation of a weapon cannot be taken into the salon. That is, we hand over toy pistols in luggage, despite the protests of five-year-old and thirty-five-year-old children.

Household knives and scissors can be carried in checked baggage. True, if you want to bring a cleaver, perhaps it will be sent for examination to see if it is a cold weapon. But even folding (without a latch) travel, penknives with a blade length of less than 60 mm cannot be carried in hand luggage. Moreover, this rule is written in the section about booze from duty-free. So that they do not open the package and the bottle and do not get drunk. Corkscrews are also not allowed in the salon. And knitting needles. And that's not enough.

cash

As you understand, it is not the weight that is important here, but the amount of currency (although a thousand bucks in one-cent coins will raise certain questions from any sane person). In general, declare - and take out millions, but without additional delay it is allowed to travel with a currency equivalent to 10,000 US dollars. Rare people need so much money in cash, but anything can happen.

From some countries, the export of the national currency is prohibited. These states include Egypt, Tunisia and many more countries with their own unique money. Amateur numismatists can only be advised to hide a small amount of local money among the rubles and be ready to part with them if something happens (then make surprised eyes and say that you forgot what to take from you, tourists).

Cosmetics

  • Creams, gels and other similar cosmetics are regulated in the same way as all liquids. In the salon, you can take tubes and cones with a volume of no more than 100 ml, in total no more than 1 liter, and so on and so forth. You can take larger containers in your luggage, but several identical cones can be regarded as a commercial consignment for sale, which is subject to declaration.
  • Paste (at least even toothpaste) belongs here, and it also needs to be put in a bag of liquids. There is nothing illegal in carrying it in your hand luggage, but you may not like it at the inspection. For some reason, the Chinese are suspicious of her and love to open and sniff tubes of toothpaste while passing through security. But maybe they just like it. We don't condemn.
  • Aerosols, even if they are not completely liquid and under pressure, can be carried along with the liquid. According to Russian rules, aerosols intended for use for sports or domestic purposes, the valves of which are protected by caps, in containers with a capacity of no more than 0.5 kg or 500 ml are allowed in baggage. Not more than 2 kg or 2 liters per passenger. In hand luggage - all the same 100 ml.

    Aerosols, including deodorants, labeled “flammable” are prohibited in hand luggage, even if the can is less than 100 ml.

  • We remember about small nail scissors: they, like a corkscrew, cannot be taken into the salon. An iron nail file can also be regarded as a weapon. So manicure pieces need to be checked in as luggage. Or suffer without them and fly with one soft nail file in your bag.

Electronics

Consumer electronic devices like phones, power banks, laptops in hand luggage do not raise any questions. It is also not forbidden to take them (turned off!) In luggage, but for the integrity and safety of equipment, it is more logical to take them with you to the cabin. Exception - pauerbanks. They cannot be checked in as hand luggage.

At one time, airlines warned that it was strictly forbidden to transport Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on board (these are the same phones that exploded more often than they worked). Now the hype around them has subsided, but keep in mind.

Professional audio and video equipment usually requires an airline clearance.

You can bring a hair dryer, electric razor, iron or curling iron (if it is not pointed). In general, if an electrical appliance fits into the parameters of hand luggage, you can take it, but in each case, a particular employee may not like it. Especially if you have a waffle iron, electric grill or something else.

Regular batteries and large accumulators must be carried in hand luggage, making sure that they do not accidentally bridge with each other. Spare batteries (separate from vehicles) are not allowed in checked baggage.

A special place is occupied by small-sized means for personal transportation, if in Russian - unicycles, segways, gyro scooters, electric scooters and hoverboards. The reason is the large lithium batteries they run on. At Aeroflot (which follows the recommendations of IATA, the International Air Transport Association), they must be checked in as baggage, after removing the battery and taking it in hand luggage. In this case, the battery must comply with the power standard: 160 watt-hours. If the battery cannot be removed, such a product is issued through the cargo terminal of the airport as "dangerous goods".

Other

Here begins even more fun than before, balancing on the verge of customs legislation and common sense.

Corals cannot be exported from Egypt. From some African countries - ebony crafts. From many maritime countries they will not be released with shells picked up on the beach. Keep receipts for souvenirs, as they say, until the end of the trip. Special rules apply to antiques, animal skins. According to Russian customs regulations, you cannot export (even on your own) diamonds worth more than $75,000.

Many people do not check musical instruments in luggage. Not because it’s impossible to do this (it’s just the company with all their hands and feet for making them look like fragile oversized luggage), but out of love for the instrument. It is customary for large instruments, like the double bass or cello, to buy a ticket so that they “sit” in the next chair and nothing happens to them. small tools pass like hand luggage. If you're not a pro and just want to take your father's guitar to play somewhere in the mountains, you can buy a reinforced concrete (figuratively speaking) wardrobe trunk and put the instrument in the luggage compartment, making sure that it is marked as fragile.

Anything oversized can be fragile luggage, like a TV or your grandma's favorite floor vase that you're bringing as a gift to a pen pal. It is advisable to inform the airline in advance that you will be lucky and take care of the packaging. Remember: fragile in the understanding of movers does not mean overly delicate. And yes, anything is possible. So ten layers of foam and a normal box are on your conscience. Well, yes, you will have to pay extra for such a load. Sometimes, to calm down, you can use the life hack of musicians and arrange a place in the cabin for your cargo. However, this is also done in agreement with the airline, and not just with the purchase of two tickets.

Another question is whether the vase is a work of art. Or whether a painting bought at a flea market is valuable. If you are bringing something from overseas, please keep your receipt. You can transport a picture in a frame in hand luggage if it fits in size. And in a transparent film - so that it can be seen that you did not steal Kuindzhi once again. To export even your own paintings from Russia, it is recommended to issue a certificate that the Ministry of Culture does not mind and the picture was painted in our time. It is possible without it, but here it’s how lucky. Well, if suddenly the truth is something incredibly valuable, good luck with the documentary red tape. Take care of the paperwork in advance.

If you bought a closet, granite countertop, a giant refrigerator or a car that is not running, you will have to send them to you by cargo board. And sometimes by sea: this is quite a common practice, and even though containers with cargo go by sea for a long time, you can at least get all the contents two-story house so you can drag it.

For sports: skis, snowboards, bicycles, surfboards and diving equipment are easily checked in as luggage. Sometimes companies even introduce free transportation of such things for the season, in addition to luggage. Transportation of large sports equipment (like a pole for jumping) occurs through agreement with the airline. Only paintball fans can have problems: a paintball gun, according to the laws, is structurally similar to a weapon, so you need to issue a permit to export it. It is difficult to import such equipment, but it is possible: you will have to sweat in the evidence that this is still not a weapon, but a toy / sports equipment, it is possible to involve lawyers who are familiar with the commodity nomenclature used by customs officers and various acts. Think thrice if you need it.

For the romantic ones: bouquets of flowers are allowed to be carried in the cabin even in Pobeda, but live, uncut plants must pass control and receive special documents that they do not pose any danger.

To travel with your beloved animal, you need to issue a veterinary passport. Only cats and small dogs are allowed on board in carriers that can be placed in the cabin, but large animals must travel in the luggage compartment. In the case of exotic creatures (snakes, lizards, many species of birds), a permit will be required, that they can be exported and imported, they do not carry any infection, and their move will not be an irreparable loss for the population.

Outcome

There are general international rules governing the transportation of a particular category of things. But remember the worldly wisdom: if before transporting something non-trivial you doubt whether it is worth issuing additional permits or whether goodies will be confiscated at the border, it is better to consult the embassy of the destination country or at least just read the customs documents. It won't be redundant.

Air travel from one city to another has long been an integral part of our lives.

It is difficult now to find a person who has never flown an airplane in his entire life.

Air travel is the easiest and fast way move in geographic space.

But, nevertheless, even experienced passengers often have questions “What can I take on a plane?” “What can I take in hand luggage on a plane?”, “What do I need to check in my luggage?”. And those who fly for the first time ask more big amount with the question “Can I take alcohol on a plane?”, “Can I bring cosmetics?”, “What can I take on a plane if you are flying with a child?”.

Even more confusion is introduced by the rules of transportation, which may differ for different companies - carriers. Let's try to put everything on the shelves, or rather on the suitcases.

Definition

Hand luggage is items that a passenger can carry in the cabin of an aircraft. These include bags, backpacks, cases, packages, baskets. When checking in for an aircraft, the weight of hand luggage is checked.

IMPORTANT The number of pieces of hand luggage does not matter, you can carry as many bags as you like, the main thing is that their total weight and the established size standards do not exceed the declared by the carrier.

Rules for hand luggage

Standard hand luggage allowed for transportation in the cabin of the aircraft must be no more than 115 centimeters, in terms of the sum of height, width and length (55 by 40 by 20). The allowable total weight of hand luggage depends on the ticket class.

For business class passengers, hand luggage is allowed no more than 15 kg per person, and for economy class and comfort class passengers no more than 10 kg per person.

These are standard norms for most airlines, including Aeroflot. In some cases, these norms may differ from generally accepted ones. This information can be obtained in the baggage rules of a particular airline.

What can I take into the cabin of the aircraft in hand luggage?

The issue is especially relevant for long flights. Many airlines try to make the flight as comfortable as possible for passengers and, in addition to hand luggage, they allow you to take some additional things into the cabin of the aircraft.

Such a list includes

  • Handbag,
  • Diplomat,
  • Folder with documents
  • Laptop in a special bag,
  • Camera,
  • Binoculars,
  • Umbrella,
  • Newspapers and magazines (2-3 copies or one book),
  • Sealed bag with purchases from duty free.

What can I take into the salon from things and clothes

There are no special restrictions, things on the passenger, including outerwear, are not among the items of hand luggage.

ADVICE FROM EXPERIENCED TRAVELERS try to put on all the necessary things on yourself or put them in your pockets. A special travel jacket can be used, which has big number roomy pockets.

Why take luggage into the cabin?

Most companies offer quite comfortable conditions for transporting luggage in a special luggage compartment. Therefore, you can entrust your luggage to the airline at the check-in stage. It is recommended to take only things that you plan to use during the flight and especially fragile items in hand luggage.

It is IMPORTANT that you must take documents, valuables and all available gadgets in your hand luggage.

When packing a hand luggage bag, remember that the bag with the main luggage can get lost, this rarely happens, but no one is safe from this. Therefore, you should also take essential items to the salon in case of emergency - cosmetics, personal hygiene items, change of clothes.

What bag to choose for hand luggage?

Comfortable and roomy. The most optimal option is a backpack or a bag with many compartments, as well as transformer bags that easily change their size depending on the degree of fullness.

Note!

What is prohibited in hand luggage?

It is better to familiarize yourself with such a list in advance, please note that there may be variations for different carriers.

The general list of things prohibited for carrying on board the aircraft is as follows:

  • Weapons and ammunition in any form, including souvenirs, toys, imitations of the real thing, and so on,
  • Any flammable, explosive substances.
  • Sharp, piercing and cutting objects, including manicure items, scissors, knives, cosmetic and medical instruments.
  • Poisonous, caustic, toxic substances.
  • Products in banks and canned food.

How to transport sharp objects?

We have divided the list into what you can carry in your luggage and what will be allowed on board the aircraft.

You can check in your luggage: razors, forks, knitting needles (they can be allowed on board if they are wooden or plastic), a clerical knife, manicure accessories, swords, daggers, sabers, cleavers, scimitars (if these are all souvenirs, or there is evidence that it is household tools), scissors, hunting knives (the airline should be warned about this in advance and show the item at the inspection), saws, axes, corkscrews, sewing needles.

Disposable razors or razors with replaceable blades, electric razors are allowed in hand luggage.

Can I take liquids into the aircraft cabin?

Transportation of liquids

This is one of the main points in the rules of any airline. Every year in this regard, the requirements are becoming tougher and tougher. This is, first of all, a safety point, since explosive and flammable substances can be carried on board under the guise of a liquid. Fluid rates will vary from airline to airline.

So Aeroflot allows the carriage of up to one liter of liquid per passenger, provided that it is packed in sealed containers with a volume of no more than 100 milliliters each. Liquid food must be sealed in a transparent bag measuring 20 by 20 centimeters.

In this case, liquid refers to all cosmetics, foodstuffs and other non-solid substances. In most companies, liquids will include shaving foam, toothpaste, gels, aerosols, creams, preserves, soups, jams and so on.

Rules for the carriage of liquids

How to transport alcohol?

You can take alcohol with a strength of no more than 70% in your luggage. Carriage of alcohol in hand luggage depends on the carrier and country of destination. When entering the United States, this is possible. With regard to Russia, this is a complex issue, each company decides this issue for itself.

For example, if you are flying with Aeroflot, you can take alcohol in your hand luggage, if S7, then alcohol will not be allowed on board. In any case, the consumption of alcohol on board is prohibited by any airline.

IMPORTANT Even if alcohol is allowed as hand luggage, it must be packed according to the rules for carrying liquids - packages not exceeding 100 ml, with a total volume of up to 1 liter.

Alcohol with duty free can be taken on board in a larger volume if it is packed in a branded package with a receipt.

Is it possible to take some food on board?

This question often arises among those who travel by plane for the first time. During long flights, food is provided for passengers on the boron. For those who like to eat homemade food and do not want to depend on the lunch schedule on board the aircraft, food is allowed to be taken into the cabin.

Here it is important to remember the norms for bringing liquid on board the aircraft. And remember the rules of etiquette when choosing food, you should not take food with a pungent odor with you, crumbling foods should also be avoided. The best option for a snack, dried fruits, nuts, vegetables, sweets or fruits can become.

Rules of carriage for non-standard baggage

As already mentioned, fragile items should not be checked into the luggage compartment in order to eliminate the risk of damage. If you are traveling with animals, they should be transported in special cages in the cabin or in a special compartment.

In most companies, this service is paid and is equal to the cost of one piece of luggage. If you are transporting fragile items, musical instruments, highly sensitive equipment of non-standard sizes, then this issue should be settled in individually. Compact instruments can be taken in hand luggage, large ones can be transported in a hard case in the luggage compartment or you can buy a separate seat for them.

In most cases, you will be met. But remember that for such a service, most likely, you will need to pay extra. Surfboards, drills, drills, skates, bows and arrows, skateboards, skis and ski poles, screwdrivers and other tools, as well as hunting trophies and guns, fishing rods, scooters, segways, gyro scooters can definitely be transported only in the luggage compartment.

Is it possible to transport gadgets and electronic devices

In most cases, you can bring on board cameras, a camcorder, a laptop, tablets and smartphones, chargers for them, tripods, monopods, electronic toothbrushes, multicookers (if their dimensions meet the standards), irons, curling irons and hair dryers.

IMPORTANT It is better to take your smartphone charger with you on the plane. In the event of a baggage delay, this will not give you the opportunity to remain completely without communication.

But the blender can only be transported in the luggage compartment.

IMPORTANT Some companies prohibit the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 from being transported on board and in the luggage compartment, as there is a risk of its explosion during flight. If you are the owner of this gadget, check the rules of transportation in advance.

Can I take medication with me?

Medicines in solid form, liquid, gel and spray forms can be taken on board only to a limited extent in accordance with the rules for the carriage of liquids. If medicines are vital, then they can be taken in any amount, confirming the need with a certificate from a doctor.

Mercury thermometers are prohibited for transportation, both in baggage and in hand luggage, but hydrogen peroxide can only be transported in hand luggage with a volume of no more than 100 ml. Syringes for injections are allowed to be carried on board only for vital reasons (for example, patients with diabetes) with a relevant certificate, they are allowed in baggage.

IMPORTANT check if your medicines are on the prohibited list in the country of destination. So in the US, carvalol is banned.

What to do if you have found items prohibited for transportation?

Reasons for confiscation

There are enough such cases, since not all passengers thoroughly familiarize themselves with the rules for transporting things before departure. Banal items can become a reason for confiscation - scissors, toys - pistols, containers over 100 ml, and so on.

Most often, such things are simply thrown out in the inspection area. If a thing is dear to you for any reason, discuss this issue with the administration, probably there will be a way to keep it, or send it to luggage if it is possible to transport it.

Here we are not talking about such prohibited things as weapons and drugs. If they are identified, the police will be involved in the case.

Prohibited items can be found in one of 4 baggage check situations

  1. In baggage before check-in, in this situation, things can be handed over to the mourners, or left in the car or luggage room, and can also be sent by Russian post to any address, most airports have its branches.
  2. in your luggage after you checked it in for your flight, in such a situation, if it is possible to return for registration, then the thing can be saved in one of the above ways. The thing may be confiscated, but you can get it when you return back, if you agree on this with the airport staff.
  3. in hand luggage until passport control, if you can return for check-in, then the options for resolving the situation from paragraph 1 are suitable, or the opportunity to check in the item as luggage.
  4. in hand luggage after passport control, here the option is either to completely confiscate the thing, or if you manage to convince the airport representatives of the value of the thing for you, it can be transferred on board and given to you upon arrival at the place. Sometimes airlines go forward and hand over things in luggage, then you can get your property when it is issued. Sometimes things are stored until you return at the airport, it is important to draw up an act that will allow you to get it back.

Where is hand luggage carried?

Flight attendants will help you comfortably place your hand luggage. Usually, hand luggage is transported either on special shelves above the seats, or under the seat on the floor. Before placing hand luggage in the cabin, consider what you will need during the flight and place these items within reach.

  • Familiarize yourself with the rules of carriage at the stage of purchasing tickets,
  • During the flight, carefully consider the recommendations of the conductors and follow their instructions,
  • Take warm clothes on board, as during the flight the air conditioners are turned on and it becomes cool, and there may not be enough blankets for everyone.
  • During the flight, you should not use gadgets, this may affect the operation of the aircraft's instruments.
  • Be polite to passengers and crew.
  • Be calm, do not cause discomfort to others.

Now you are familiar with the basic rules for transporting things on airplanes. And even if there is something in your luggage that was overlooked in this article, you know how to keep your belongings safe and sound. It is easy for you to travel and quickly pass the control zone.

Most people don't know what can and cannot be taken in hand luggage under the new 2020 rules. Therefore, many face certain problems at the airport. Rule number one says: each passenger is allowed to take only one hand luggage. However, in addition to hand luggage, you can additionally take a handbag, a computer bag (now many airlines already include a laptop in hand luggage), an umbrella, a shopping bag, a camera and the like. They belong to personal belongings, so the weight of hand luggage will not be affected.

If your bag does not fit the weight or dimensions of your hand luggage, you will not be able to pass security check and will be returned to the check-in desk to repack or empty your bag. Or you will be asked to pay for the excess (the price depends on the airline). What about other hand luggage rules? Find out in the following article:

Transportation of liquids

You may only carry liquids, gels and aerosols in your carry-on baggage in small quantities (maximum 100 ml per package). The packaging of these products must meet specific requirements. They apply to all passengers departing from airports European Union. If you want to carry more, you will have to check in and pay for luggage.

These rules apply not only to liquids such as water and soft drinks, but also to gels, creams, lotions and aerosols. Toiletries such as toothpaste, shaving cream, hair gel, lip gloss and face creams also fall under the rule.

The following rules apply for the carriage of liquids in hand luggage:

  • It is allowed to carry liquids and gels in packages of only 100 ml or less;
  • You can bring several of these packages, but they must be collected in one transparent plastic bag;
  • The total volume should not exceed 1 liter;
  • Each passenger can carry only one such package;

There are two exceptions:

  • baby food necessary for the duration of the flight;
  • medicines needed for the flight.

Can I bring in purchases from Duty-free?

You can shop (duty-free) at airports after going through passport control, as well as on board flights. Liquids and gels that you buy from duty-free or on board the aircraft should be packaged and sealed at the store, or on board if necessary. The seal on the packaging is valid up to 24 hours.

What not to take in hand luggage

  • Explosives, explosive materials and objects filled with them
  • Compressed and liquefied gases
  • Flammable liquids
  • Flammable solids
  • Oxidizing agents and organic peroxides
  • Caustic Soda and caustics
  • Poisonous and toxic substances, as well as radioactive materials
  • Weapon

Individual screening

When you go through security, you must show all the liquids individually. The clear plastic bag should be sealed but easy to open and close again. You will need to show your coat separately, shoes, and larger electrical appliances such as a laptop and camera.

Liquids less than 100 ml

The golden rule of air travel is that all liquids (favorite face cream and body lotion, perfume and a bottle of whiskey) must be properly packaged:

  • in special containers up to 100 milliliters in size;
  • the total volume of all containers should not exceed 1 liter per person;
  • it is advisable to pack all jars and bottles with liquids in a transparent bag (it is better to take a size of 20x20 centimeters, although this is not required everywhere).

As you can see, there are a lot of problems, so sometimes, if the flight is not very long, it is easier to put all your favorite products in your luggage - your skin will survive three and a half hours without moisturizing with avocado oil.

laptop and charger

Agree, forcing you to fly without your favorite laptop is really cruel. During a long flight, you can work and watch the series (the main thing - do not forget to download in advance). No one is going to deprive you of this opportunity, so be sure: you can carry a laptop in the cabin.

But remember: in order not to detain other passengers during the inspection, put the equipment out of the backpack and put it in a plastic container next to other things - otherwise you risk slowing down the entire line, pulling everything out at the last moment.

There is (eye) contact!

If you wear permanent contact lenses, pour the liquid for storage into a bottle of up to 100 milliliters, otherwise you will have to squint the whole vacation not from the sun, but because you can’t see anything.

Hair straighteners and electric shaver

If a business meeting awaits you immediately after the flight and you urgently need to become beautiful, you can carry a hair straightener and an electric razor in hand luggage. While the baggage is being laid out on the belt, you can put yourself in order.

Medications

A classic tourist first aid kit (painkillers, antipyretics, antiseptics, nasal drops, plaster) can be safely carried in hand luggage, the main thing is to make sure that all containers are less than 100 milliliters.

What to do in special cases? There is one salvation here: each drug that goes beyond the rules of transportation (each host country has its own list, so check in advance - for example, you cannot bring valocordin to Europe) must be accompanied by a prescription from a doctor. Please note that:

  • the recipe must be translated by a certified translator;
  • medicines must be in their original packaging - they cannot be poured. So, if it is vital for you to take some drug with you on the plane, and the factory packaging exceeds the volume of 100 milliliters, you will also have to get a prescription.

Some medicines need to be stored in the refrigerator - in this case (and again, if there is a translation of the instructions in which this fact is confirmed), you can take the medicine cooler bag with you on the plane.

Football, basketball and other sports balls

We don’t know why you need this, but yes: you can take a soccer ball (even an inflated one) with you. The main thing is to fit in hand luggage.

Mini bottles of alcohol

Unfortunately, if you bring them from home - only mini. Some avid travelers simply pour their favorite drink into small containers, and then sleep sweetly for the entire flight. It is important not to confuse the treasured bottle with the one with shampoo.

If every time you go into a duty-free shop, your mind blows and you run to buy sweets, souvenirs and alcohol, keep in mind that airlines limit the number of packages allowed in different ways. “Victory”, for example, requires that the size of the purchased along with the rest of the hand luggage is placed in a special calibrator, which you will find at the boarding gate. So be careful with purchases, otherwise you will have to try to cram what you bought for three hours, delaying other passengers. Ryanair allows only one package - for additional ones you will have to pay 8 € (about 600 rubles)

Most likely, it will not be possible to uncork a purchase on an airplane: it is prohibited. But there is good news: Aeroflot recently to economy class!

Alcocontrol

Before you run to duty-free to buy, get acquainted with the rules for importing alcohol into the host country - the amount is different everywhere. For example, you can import up to 3 liters of alcoholic beverages with a strength of up to 70% to Russia, 4 liters of wine, 16 liters of beer and 1 liter of spirits to Europe, and alcohol cannot be imported to the Maldives at all. Just don't carry supplies in your hand luggage - we are talking about the luggage that you hand over.

Musical instruments

For safety reasons, your instrument must fit on the luggage rack: your favorite cello will have to be checked in as luggage (don't forget a hard case!). If the dimensions of the tool allow, you can take it to the salon and be calm for its safety.

Any solid food

Nuts, dried fruits, sausage sandwiches! Of course, take all this with you, especially if you are flying with a low-cost airline and do not want to spend money on expensive (and not very tasty) food. The main thing is that the food is solid, otherwise the main “rule of 100 milliliters” comes into force again (this applies to yogurt, cereals, baby food and any other liquid food).

It is forbidden

Liquids larger than 100 ml

We deliberately emphasize this point (repetition is the mother of learning!): even if there are only 50 milliliters of whiskey left in a half-liter water bottle, you still can’t take it on a plane - not only the volume of liquid is important, but also the size of the container itself.

sharp objects

Sharp objects on board the aircraft are strictly prohibited: scissors, knives, forks, axes are on the red list (yes, don’t even think about taking an ax on board the aircraft, even if Raskolnikov is your favorite character in Russian classics!).

A manicure set is also impossible: not only scissors, but in general everything if made of metal. Only ceramic, glass and emery files are allowed, but in general - it’s better not to annoy your seatmate with a sudden desire to get a manicure. Knitting needles and corkscrews will not work either.

Snow balls

Alas, looking nostalgically at the magical snowball ik the whole flight will fail - since there is liquid inside, take it on board forbidden . The exception is a small (smaller than a tennis ball) snow globe, it can be carried in hand luggage along with the rest of the jars. You can pack it in a plastic bag (which is 20x20 centimeters) - for peace of mind.

Weapon

We do not assume that you are going to carry real weapons with you, but we pay attention: even dummies will have to be checked in as luggage. So, if you are flying from an international exhibition of Tolkienists, put the sword of Aragorn (or the bow of Legolas) in your suitcase - the forces of evil will wait for your soft landing, so that after that they will again meet in a merciless duel. Also banned are lightsabers and even plastic pistols for those who like to play James Bond (or Lara Croft).

We hope we have not only refreshed your knowledge of the well-known, but also relieved you of paranoia about nuts or hair straighteners. Now you can cross the threshold of the airport with peace of mind. Pleasant flight!

Hand luggage on an airplane is a real headache for most tourists returning from vacation. For many passengers, the very concept of "hand luggage" raises many questions. Unfortunately, not all passengers know what is the difference between hand luggage and luggage, and even more so from an accessory to hand luggage (accessory to hand luggage is a very new concept for modern civil aviation).

This post will be a continuation of useful articles about tricks independent travel. Earlier, I wrote in detail about how to look for cheap flights, what is travel insurance and how travel insurance differs from insurance for traveling abroad, in this post we will talk in detail about hand luggage and how to fly on planes without overpaying for overweight.

What is hand luggage

Here's what Wikipedia says about the concept of hand luggage:

Hand luggage is the cargo that a passenger takes with him on board a passenger vehicle (in our case, this is an airplane, but vehicle can be anything), without handing over to the luggage compartment.

As you can see, hand luggage is all that the passenger takes with him on board the aircraft. Many people think so, but if you look more closely at the rules for transporting goods on passenger aircraft, it turns out that everything that is on you, including outerwear and the contents of pockets, is no longer hand luggage, but is called personal use and is actually not taken into account. And there are a lot of such interesting moments in the rules of transportation, read about it below.

Rules for carrying hand luggage on an airplane

The basic rules for carrying hand luggage on an airplane are the same for most airlines, with the exception of low-cost airlines. For budget carriers, any excess is a means of additional income, so you should know about it and take into account the special rules of low-cost carriers.

It should be understood that any restriction on the transport of things in the cabin is primarily a concern for the passenger and the safety of air travel, and then the opportunity to take extra money from the passenger for excess weight. Now let me explain what I mean.

Here are the basic rules for carrying hand luggage on an airplane:

  • all hand luggage should be no more than 115 cm (in the sum of three dimensions, 55 × 40 × 20) - everything is clear here, this is so that things fit on the shelves;
  • the weight of hand luggage should be within 8 - 12 kilograms (depending on the airline) - this is so that each passenger can independently put their things in boxes above the seats;
  • bans on liquids and other bans - unfortunately, after the American tragedy of September 11, civil aviation has become different, the rules have not become stricter, they have become completely different. Those who have flown before know how much easier it was to pass the pre-flight inspection earlier.

Hand luggage size

In this part of the post, we will talk about how much hand luggage you can take on a plane, what to do with goods from Duty Free and about other interesting things that will help you save money and not pay for overweight.

Aircraft hand luggage weight

The weight of the luggage that you want to take on the plane is strictly regulated and there can be no problems with this, or vice versa, this is the main problem (after all, sometimes they require payment for excess weight). For different airlines, the weight can vary from 5 kilograms to 12 kilograms. Low-cost airlines may have their own "kookies" about the weight of hand luggage.

If you read this post to the end, you will find several legal ways for yourself to reduce the weight of your hand luggage and still carry everything you want.

Dimensions of hand luggage on the plane

As I mentioned earlier, most airlines allow overall size carry-on luggage is the same, because most airlines have the same aircraft models and the same luggage racks.

The allowable size of hand luggage, in most cases, is: 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm or 115 cm (in the sum of 3 measurements). It should be noted here that skis 115 centimeters long will most likely not be allowed to be carried on board, but they will be forced to be checked in, since there is simply nowhere to attach them in the cabin, well, not in the aisle to carry them.

With the determination of the dimensions of hand luggage, passengers always have difficulties, for which many airlines install special templates at airports that imitate the allowed sizes, and everyone can check their things using these templates.

Novice travelers always have the question of what is the best way to pack things that fly in the cabin. I have tried many options from a reliable suitcase to a comfortable backpack and can give some advice.

  • a carry-on suitcase is very convenient if you are transporting really valuable and fragile things (a priceless Chinese vase from the Qing Dynasty, fragile Murano glass figurines, etc.). In this case, the "armor" of the walls of the suitcase is justified, in all other cases, the suitcase is too inconvenient for hand luggage;
  • carry-on bag is perfect solution, it can be tamped down and thus it will pass any “dimensional” control, but it can be very inconvenient to carry such a bag at the airport. If the bag has wheels, then this option is quite suitable;
  • a hand luggage backpack is the most convenient thing to carry things on an airplane, it perfectly passes all the “size-to-size” controls (tested on a 45 liter backpack), it is easy to carry and your hands are always free. I recommend this option to everyone.

Duty Free items in hand luggage

When buying goods in duty free shops (Duty Free) on the territory of the airport (in the so-called "sterile zone"), you should take into account the weight of purchases. The stores themselves do not impose any restrictions on the sale of goods (buy at least half of the store).

Theoretically, Duty Free items are personal items and do not count as hand luggage, but when boarding an aircraft, it can be difficult (if you have too many Duty Free purchases), so you should be rational in everything. It should also be remembered that it is required to transport goods from Duty Free in special containers (in which the goods are packed in the store) and not to break the packaging throughout the flight. It is advisable to keep a cash receipt for your purchase throughout the flight, it may come in handy.

If there were no problems with boarding the plane and your purchases from Duty Free are flying with you, then you may be subject to customs restrictions at the arrival camp. Each country has clear rules on the possibility of duty-free import of goods, and some (mostly Muslim countries) even prohibit the import of the most popular Duty Free goods (liquor). As a rule, customs "give approval" for the import of 1 liter of strong alcohol and 1 block of cigarettes, for a larger volume you need to pay a fee. Each country has its own rules, so you should clarify this before your trip.

If you are flying with a transfer, then you should remember that you will have to go through the security control procedure again and here your Duty Free package can be regarded as hand luggage, and not as personal items. In these cases, you must present a receipt from the Duty Free store of the first airport (where you made the purchase) and, of course, the goods from Duty Free must be appropriately packaged.

Accessory for hand luggage

Now the most interesting. Not so long ago, some airlines introduced a new concept for passenger aviation - “Accessory for hand luggage”, for most passengers this is a real salvation from overweight and that's why. Some things go beyond the concept of hand luggage and fall into accessories for hand luggage, then I will give an approximate list (it may differ for each airline, and for low-cost airlines it may be completely absent). Now the passenger has hand luggage with a regulated weight and size and the opportunity to carry on the plane some of the things that were previously considered hand luggage and occupied most of the space there.

Here is what you can take on a plane as an accessory for hand luggage from Aeroflot:

  • handbag / men's briefcase;
  • folder for papers;
  • umbrella;
  • cane;
  • bouquet of flowers;
  • outerwear;
  • laptop computer, camera, video camera;
  • printed publications for reading in flight;
  • baby food for the child during the flight;
  • baby cradle when transporting a child;
  • suit in a suitcase;
  • cell phone;
  • crutches;
  • bag with purchases from the Duty Free store.

And again there are several incomprehensible situations, there are indications about a laptop, but there is no indication about Charger, there are instructions about the camera, but you will be forced to hand over the tripod in luggage, etc.

Hand luggage for children

For passengers with small children, carrying things for all children's needs becomes a big problem. Fortunately, most airlines provide the option to use extra bed hand luggage standard size. This rule applies to passengers with children under 2 years of age, if the child has a full ticket and a seat in the cabin, then he also has a full piece of hand luggage.

How and where to place hand luggage on board the aircraft

To place hand luggage on board the aircraft, there are luggage racks above the passenger seats, it is their volume that dictates strict requirements (in terms of weight and size) for passenger hand luggage. If necessary, hand luggage can be placed under the seat in front of the seated passenger (not all seats on the plane have this option).

Many airlines clearly state in their policies that during air travel, the accessory must be placed under the seat of the seat (located in front of you), and all hand luggage must be placed on the shelf (above your seat). It is forbidden to place any things in the aisles of the aircraft or in the space near the emergency exit.

How much hand luggage can I take on a plane

How much hand luggage you can take on a plane depends to a greater extent on the carrier company and on the class of service.

For most airlines, there is the same standard for the number of pieces of hand luggage:

  • economy class - one piece of hand luggage;
  • business class - two pieces of hand luggage;
  • first class - two pieces of hand luggage.

Low-cost airlines stand apart, they may require an additional fee for things in the cabin. Some US and Canadian carriers provide as many as 2 pieces of carry-on baggage when flying in regular economy class.

Liquids in hand luggage

Restrictions on carrying liquids in hand luggage seem to me the most crazy restrictions for passengers on airplanes. Judge for yourself, because all these restrictions on 1 liter of 100 ml. for real "bad guys" it's very simple, just a few people with bad intentions and that's it.

But for law-abiding passengers, these perversions of liquids in hand luggage are a huge inconvenience and additional hassle. It's all because of the September 11, 2001 attacks that completely changed the attitude towards aviation security and now every passenger (including infants with their baby food jars) is considered as a potential terrorist.

The rules for carrying liquids in hand luggage are as follows: a passenger has the right to carry one liter of liquids (in total) in hand luggage, liquids must be placed in a container with a volume not exceeding 100 milliliters. All liquids carried on the plane must be packed in a sealed transparent bag (with a reusable zipper), the size of the bag for liquids should not exceed 20x20 centimeters.

And as always, there are many ambiguities that confuse passengers and cause problems. For example, you will not be allowed to take on board a half-empty tube of toothpaste if its volume is more than 100 ml, for all your objections “There is only half”, there is only one reaction “Not allowed”. Toothpaste is not so pitiful, but what if it's an expensive cream in a 125 ml tube? Anything over 100 ml. will be removed and disposed of.

There are a number of products that do not look like liquids (for example, no man of sense will not be able to call cheese a liquid), but when transported on an airplane, they are considered liquids:

  • perfumery;
  • shampoos;
  • gels;
  • lotions;
  • sprays;
  • oils;
  • paints;
  • creams;
  • deodorants;
  • shaving foam;
  • ink;
  • lipstick;
  • toothpaste;
  • beverages;
  • syrups;
  • soups;
  • cheeses;
  • canned food;
  • caviar;
  • jam;
  • home preparations.

Thus, it turns out that you can carry caviar and cheese in hand luggage, but not more than 1 lirt (in total), which is divided into 100 ml. containers. Introduce hard cheese bottled in small bottles, a normal person is not able to, and this often causes situations of misunderstanding between passengers and employees at airports.

About cheese in bottles is a joke, but it is desirable that all liquids be in labeled containers, this way you will save yourself unnecessary questions. It should be remembered that airport employees have the right to open any jar or tube and verify the contents, it does not matter what is inside an expensive cream or baby food.

What can be carried in hand luggage

What can you take in hand luggage on a plane? Here it is worth answering the following question for yourself, about the need for things that you drag into the cabin of the aircraft. It’s understandable when you take documents and really valuable things with you, but when people carry things into the cabin that could easily survive the flight in the luggage compartment, the question arises “Why?”. I think that you should take the most necessary and valuable things in your hand luggage, and either put everything else in your luggage, or not take it on a trip at all.

Beverages

Any drinks in glass, plastic or cardboard packages up to 100 ml. can be carried in hand luggage, the requirements for packaging drinks from Duty Free stores are more lenient and are not limited to 100 ml.

You can carry any drinks and alcohol in your hand luggage, however, the strength of alcoholic beverages must be no more than 70%, everything above is considered a combustible substance and is not allowed for transportation in the cabin.

Food and food

There are no special requirements and restrictions for food (should be checked with your airline), if you are taking food within reasonable limits (a sandwich for the road or a few apples). It should be remembered that on the territory of some states there are strict regulations that prohibit the import of meat, dairy and other products. It should also be noted that some products (for example, cheese, yogurt or caviar) are considered liquids, and the volume of the package should not exceed 100 ml.

Here is a list of these products - liquids:

  • caviar;
  • yogurts (regular or drinking);
  • soups;
  • honey, jam;
  • canned food (meat, fish, homemade preparations);
  • foods with a lot of sauce or gravy.

Some airlines allow the following solid and dry foods to be taken into the cabin:

  • sandwiches;
  • sausages, meatballs, sausages;
  • cookies, chips, bread, waffles;
  • vegetables and fruits;
  • sweets, cakes and pastries.

Electronics and modern gadgets

When going through customs at the airport, you will be asked to take your laptop out of your hand luggage and place it in the basket for later scanning. Laptop, phone, smart phone, etc. may not be taken into account in the weight of hand luggage and be considered personal items, but here you should study the rules of the airline more carefully.

On some flights to the United States, any electronic device larger than a smartphone is not allowed in carry-on baggage.

The following electronic devices can be transported in the aircraft cabin:

  • mobile phone (excluding exploding smartphones samsung galaxy note 7);
  • laptop, tablet, e-book;
  • camera, video camera;
  • MP3, DVD player.

Medications

Medicines and medicines needed on the road can be taken in hand luggage, but please note that you may be asked to prove the need for certain drugs (you should have a doctor's indication that you need to take medicines).

Care accessories

The following personal devices may be carried in hand baggage.

  • safety razor and replaceable blades for it, as well as an electric razor;
  • hair dryer and other hair styling devices;
  • toothbrush(including electrical).

Cosmetics and hygiene products

You can take cosmetic and hygiene products in any (glass, plastic, paper, wood, etc.) packages up to 100 ml in hand luggage.

  • cream, gel;
  • tanning lotion or oil;
  • toothpaste;
  • deodorant (solid, spray, roll-on);
  • hairspray and foam for styling hair;
  • liquid for contact lenses;
  • shampoo, mask, hair balm, etc.

Other things in hand luggage

  • literature and magazines;
  • a picture (its size should not exceed the allowable for hand luggage);
  • crockery, glasses, sets, etc.;
  • musical instrument;
  • Wedding Dress and other clothes (it is necessary to carry in a special case - a suitcase, it is counted as one
  • piece of hand luggage).

It is important to know some features that may surprise you right at the airport (read the passenger's story in the comments to this post). So, for example, an ordinary skateboard can be regarded as a weapon and will be asked to be checked in. I became interested and I asked the representatives of the airport whether this was true or not, that's what they answered me. You can see the full answer to my letter in the photo.

In accordance with the requirements of aviation security, according to clause 72 of the Order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation dated July 25, 2007 No. 104: “items and substances that can be used as a weapon of attack, but not prohibited for transportation on board the aircraft, are packed and transported in as checked baggage.

All restrictions on the carriage of things in hand luggage can be divided into several groups.

  • prohibited for security reasons - weapons and toys imitating them (firearms, piercing and cutting, etc.), exploding smartphones samsung galaxy note 7, I think everything is clear here;
  • prohibited for the convenience of passengers - everyone wants to drag their oversized cargo on board, but no one wants to sit next to a friend who dragged oversized cargo into the cabin;
  • prohibited for commercial purposes - it is possible to use the aircraft cabin as a "gazelle for transportation", but it is expensive. There is a desire to bring 50 kilograms of mango from Thailand - pay for the excess and take it.

Now let's talk about this in more detail, the recent events with exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones surprised and frightened many. And as a result - a complete ban on the use of this smartphone model on board the aircraft.

Punching and cutting objects, explosive goods and weapons

  • it is forbidden to take firearms and any piercing and cutting objects (knife, corkscrew, razor blades, sharp manicure accessories, etc.) in hand luggage;
  • working tools (screwdrivers, nails, files, drills, etc.);
  • sports equipment (skateboard, roller skates, scooters, baseball bats, etc.).

Electronics and modern gadgets prohibited in hand luggage

After the scandal with the exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, many countries banned the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones from being carried on board the aircraft, and the Federal Air Transport Agency went even further and banned this smartphone even from being carried to the airport.

Many airlines have banned the transportation of small-sized means for personal transportation on lithium batteries (monowheels, mini-segways, hoverboards, gyro scooters, etc.) in hand luggage and in the cargo hold.

On March 21, 2017, US authorities banned electronic devices from being carried in hand luggage, the ban was imposed on flights from the Middle East and North Africa. Passengers from these countries (Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE) traveling to the United States of America non-stop are not allowed to carry laptops, tablets, cameras and other electronics in hand luggage. The United Kingdom has joined this ban.

Food and food

If you managed to carry food and other food products on board the aircraft (some airlines don’t particularly find fault with this), then it’s advisable to destroy it there (eat it), since many countries prohibit the importation of any agricultural products, meat, milk and etc. without proper certifications.

Transportation of hand luggage on the plane, tricks and life hacks

The main life hack “How not to overpay for excess baggage” is to leave everything superfluous at home, but not everyone can give themselves such pleasure - traveling with a half-empty backpack, so I will tell you how I deal with being overweight in my hand luggage.

Usually, I travel with two backpacks, one large (about 45 liters) and the other small (30 liters). At the beginning of your journey, all things (including a 30 liter backpack) fit into a 45 liter one and fly like hand luggage in the cabin. During a long journey, backpacks are filled with all sorts of necessary (and not so) gizmos and on the way back they don’t fit into each other anymore, and this is where you have to think about how to optimize the weight and size of luggage.

Here is a rough list of things to do to reduce the weight of your luggage after a long trip:

Make the most of your body- it sounds strange, but if you understand that an advantage is inevitable, then you can bring some of the things into the cabin of the aircraft on yourself in the literal sense of the word. For example, you can put on warm things from your luggage (it will probably be hot and you will look like a fool), you can put small but heavy souvenirs in your pockets, etc.

If you go even further, you can buy fashionable and very practical clothes from the famous brand SCOTTeVEST. Their signature jackets are specially designed for travelers, top models have more than 40 pockets of all shapes and sizes for different gadgets and devices. With such functionality, all SCOTTeVEST brand clothes look fashionable and modern. Any of their little things, whether it be a cap or shorts, will be equipped with pockets for storage without fail.

Get rid of everything superfluous- there are things that there is no point in bringing back and you can get rid of them yourself different ways, they can simply be thrown into the trash, donated to the natives or sold. On my Indian trip, a gift in the form of an ordinary ballpoint pen evoked extremely positive emotions from local children.

Find a travel companion- if you find a fellow traveler who does not have as much luggage as you, then you can always ask for a service. But here you should be very careful and trust the person (and he should also trust you), because where is the guarantee that it may turn out to be in the things you transferred and where is the guarantee that a new acquaintance will return your luggage to you.

Send a piece of luggage by mail- in any country there is a post office and this fact should not be ignored. The cost of sending to Russia will cost some money, but it is much cheaper than the rates for overweight baggage.
