How to wash interior doors. Secrets of caring for a wooden door: we extend the service life. Door Care

One of the most common problems after repair - polyurethane foam dried on the door. It is quite difficult to clean it, as the substance quickly sticks to the surface. How and how to remove mounting foam without damaging the door?

Design features

Methods for cleaning the door from "installation" and traces of whitewashing depend on the material from which the structure is made. Doors can be:

  • wooden,
  • made from MDF
  • plastic,
  • metal,
  • glass.

Most often, wood or MDF are used as materials for the door. With cleaning wooden products there are no particular difficulties. But MDF structures can have different kind coatings: paint, film, veneer, laminate, etc. Doors with a veneered surface require especially careful care.

Some coatings, such as lacquered and painted, can deteriorate due to the use of a solvent, so you need to be careful when resorting to chemicals.

Foam cleaning methods

Mounting foam dries quickly, so the sooner work is started, the more likely it is to clean the door without leaving a defect on it. In order to wash fresh mounting foam, a special washer or solvent is used.

It is much more difficult to clean the dried traces of foam. You can do this in the following way:

  1. Trim the remaining foam as close to the door covering as possible.
  2. Cover it with a solvent, a special remover or vinegar. When the foam is wet, try to clean the dirt using a scraper or a hard sponge.
  3. For greater effect, use a scraper that is harder than foam but softer than the surface of the door. Clean up traces of foam until you get rid of them completely.

How to clean whitewash marks

Another one actual problem after repair - cleaning stains from whitewash, as a result of which muddy stains appear on the surfaces. If the door is glass, you can wash the drops of whitewash with a regular glass spray. To remove contaminants from metal or wooden structure, you need to "arm yourself" with a soft cloth and a bucket of warm water. This process is slow, but effective - the stains are completely wiped off the coating.

How to wash grease stains

The process of installing new doors is not complete without the use of technical oil for lubrication door hinges. After that, greasy spots may appear on the surface. Starch is the most effective "tool" to combat such pollution. Both dry starch and regular raw potatoes will do. Cut the vegetable into 2 parts and rub the cut side of the greasy stain so that the potato juice is absorbed.

Another alternative way to clean greasy marks on the door is baby powder, which contains talc.

You can also use ordinary soapy water. But be careful with MDF coatings, which can deteriorate from an abundance of moisture.

Acetic acid is also a good helper in the fight against greasy stains. The greatest effect can be achieved if a composition of clay and vinegar is applied to the pollution. After that, it remains only to clean the mixture with a slightly damp cloth.

How to clean paint

The most effective and popular means for removing paint stains is a solvent. However, you should not use it to clean dirt from MDF - it is better to apply alcohol to the surface, and then carefully remove the remaining paint with a blade. Even greater difficulties arise when washing stains from frosted glass.

If it is sandblasting, then you can use a conventional solvent. To clean the glossy surface from dirt, a special scraper is used. Least of all problems arise with the removal of traces water-based paint which can be easily washed off with plain water.

How to wash the primer

A lot of difficulties arise when washing the primer from the door leaf, since this composition dries quickly and immediately eats into the coating. Methods for removing primer stains are as follows:

  • cloth dampened with water (for fresh dirt),
  • vinegar solution,
  • soda,
  • glass or tile cleaner
  • ammonia.

In order to soften dried stains, polyurethane foam or a fresh primer are also used.

Methods for cleaning plaster

Dealing with plaster stains on MDF surfaces is quite simple. All you need is a rag, water and a scraper. Avoid getting water on the door so that the coating does not deform.

When the putty softens, start washing off the dirt with the hard part of the sponge, if it does not come out, use the blade and scraper. You can also use fine sandpaper for this purpose.

Difficulties arise when washing putty stains, which include polymers. It adheres well to the surface and in this case it is impossible to do without mechanical action. To soften stains, polyurethane foam is also used.

How to clean frosted or glossy glass

During the repair process, construction waste can get into glass elements. How and how to remove dirt from frosted or glossy glass on the door?

The glossy surface of the glass can be washed with a conventional glass cleaner. For this purpose, something that is always at hand in the house is also suitable - lemon acid, vinegar, alcohol solution.

To clean frosted glass, in addition to the usual glass cleaner, you can use a special caring composition that gently removes stains without damaging the glass structure.

Regardless of the material from which the door is made, try not to use strong chemical substances and abrasives.

Door cleaning- the ability to maintain an attractive appearance and integrity of the coating for a long time. At the same time, care should be regular and correct. Doors, like any other household items, need cleaning.   • cover door structure varnish, especially if it is a low-quality canvas;
  • close the doors with foil if repairs are planned;
  • in general, you need to use the door very carefully so that you do not have to try to repair serious dents or deep scratches.

Choose the right cleaning agent. In particular, veneer and natural wood are cleaned in completely different ways. If this is not taken into account, there is a possibility of hopelessly spoiling the door covering. In addition, it is recommended to consider such tricks:

Caring for doors is a feasible task for everyone. The procedure is not complicated and does not require serious economic costs. Regular care is an opportunity to extend the life of the door surface, take care of its aesthetics.

Even 20 years ago, choosing an interior door was very simple - almost all of them were produced using approximately the same technology. And there were not so many materials used for their manufacture. Today, the situation is completely different. Now for the production of doors, a wide variety of materials are used: solid wood, veneer, plastic, eco-veneer, glass, plywood, MDF and many others. It is worth saying that MDF doors are one of the most popular today.

MDF is the first letters of the English phrase Medium Density Fiberboard, which in translation into Russian means “medium density fiberboard”. The production technology of such doors is not as new as it might seem. For the first time these doors began to be produced in America, around 1966. In Russia, closer to us, their production began in the late 90s. Such a door consists of a pine frame, which is upholstered on both sides with MDF boards. The space between the plates is filled with a special paper honeycomb filler. Moreover, the smaller the "honeycomb" of this filler, the stronger the door.

MDF doors have a number of advantages, due to which they have taken such a strong place in our houses and apartments. Firstly, they have a fairly high heat resistance and moisture resistance - these indicators are higher for MDF than for wood. Secondly, these doors are less susceptible to fungi. Thirdly, when quality workmanship, they have fairly good sound insulation. Fourthly, there are more than 200 possible colors of these doors, which allows you to choose them for almost any interior. Fifthly, MDF doors, in comparison with others, have a very reasonable price.

After buying and installing MDF doors, we must not forget that they also require some maintenance. So that you do not have to think about how to wash greasy stains on MDF doors and in order for the door to retain its qualities for as long as possible, it is recommended to periodically wipe them with an alcohol solution. To prepare it, you need to mix 900 ml of water and 100 ml of alcohol. Then we take a piece of soft cloth and wipe the door with this solution, not forgetting about the cashiers. After this procedure, it is advisable to wipe the door again - already with a dry cloth.

In addition to the alcohol solution, you can also use special care products for MDF doors. Most often, various polishes are used that contain oils and wax. The most famous of them are Pronto, Big D, EuroNOVA, Mebelux, Amway. To give the door a neat appearance, you need to apply the agent on a soft cloth, and then carefully wipe its surface. If the surface of the door is glossy, the direction of movement of the fabric does not matter. But if the door leaf has a fibrous texture, then you need to wipe along the fibers. I must say that polishes not only perfectly clean the doors, but also perfectly mask the scratches and other defects that have appeared on them. In addition, polishes “envelop” the surface of the door with a kind of film, which prevents dust from settling on them.

If you do not have special products than to wash greasy stains on MDF doors, then window cleaners can also be used to care for doors. They are usually sold in spray packs, so they are very convenient to use. To clean the door with such a tool, you need to apply a small amount of it on the door, and then wipe it thoroughly with a dry, soft cloth. This cleaning procedure can also be carried out before using the polish.

If the doors are not taken care of in any way, then there is a high probability that over time greasy old spots form on them. And sometimes getting rid of them can be quite difficult. But you don't have to despair right away. You can try to clean old stains with the help of products that are found in the house of every housewife.

You can wash greasy stains on the MDF door with raw potatoes. After peeling the potato, cut it in half and rub the stains. We wait until the potato juice is completely dry, and then wipe the surface of the door with a dry cloth. If after that small stains remain on the doors, you need to apply talcum powder or powder on them, and then wipe them again with a dry rag.

Soap solution also works well with old greasy stains. To do this, pour warm water into a saucepan or any other dish, add a few drops of dishwashing detergent there, and then mix until foam forms. Wipe stains with this solution. Laundry soap is also suitable for its preparation. It may take some effort to make the door look neat again. After all the stains are washed off, the door must be wiped with a dry piece of cloth.

Another remedy than to wash greasy stains on an MDF door is an ordinary vegetable oil which can be found in every home. To do this, dip a piece of cloth in oil and rub the stain intensively with it until foam forms. Then you should wipe the resulting foam with a soft dry cloth. The next cleaning step is to prepare an acetic solution consisting of water and 9% table vinegar in a 1: 1 ratio. With this solution we wipe those places that have just been “cleaned” with vegetable oil. And in conclusion, wipe the door with a dry cloth. The door will look like new!

In some cases, you may have to resort to a more sophisticated method. To do this, we need to prepare a slurry of clay and table vinegar, in a 1: 1 ratio. Then this gruel should be applied to the stain for 20-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. If the result is achieved, and the stain is gone, wipe the door dry, if not, repeat the procedure again. On final stage it is advisable to use a polish.

Sometimes a stationery eraser can help in the fight against old stains. We use it as usual - we “erase” the stains from the door surface. Just to get started, try this procedure on small area to see if the door surface is damaged.

These tips will help you get rid of old stains on your doors. However, it is worth mentioning that there are some means that it is not advisable to resort to when cleaning MDF doors. First, it's best not to use bleach or abrasive cleaners. The latter include, for example, washing powder, the particles of which can cause damage to the door surface. Bleach will simply discolor the door. Secondly, when cleaning doors, do not use metal scrapers, hard brushes, and the like. They, too, can ruin it irrevocably. Thirdly, remember: no matter what cleaning method you use, the final step will always be wiping the door with a dry, soft cloth.

So, following these tips, you can clean the MDF door from greasy old stains and give it a neat look.

The front door is the "face" of the house, and at the same time the calling card of those who live in it. By its condition, they often judge the character and habits of the owners, because neat and responsible people will certainly not allow spots, traces of streaks and stains to flaunt on the surface.

However, sometimes bring front door to neat appearance it turns out to be very difficult, even with great desire and remarkable diligence. To win the battle for cleanliness against the toughest stains, take note of the following tips!

How to clean the front door

How to wash doors from foam

Construction foam, literally tightly stuck to the door surface, is a real headache that thousands of people face (and, as a rule, immediately after installing this brand new door). If the same problem has affected you, and there was no special cleanser like Cosmofen at hand, do the following:

1. Scrape off the remaining dried substance with a plastic spatula. It is permissible to use a knife, blade or a coarse metal brush, but only if the door leaf has not yet been painted and varnished - noticeable scratches may remain.

2. Protect your hands with gloves and treat the soiled areas with pharmacy Dimexide (you don’t need to rub it hard, apply it generously enough).

Attention! Before applying the cleaning fluid on a large scale, test it on the area of the door that is least visible. This rule applies to all detergents, since there is always a risk that the coating (especially varnish) will suffer from aggressive components.

3. Let the drug absorb. After about ten minutes, using the same plastic scraper, zero sandpaper or a hard sponge, bring the surface to the proper appearance.

For the future, it is worth knowing that it is much easier to remove mounting foam in hot pursuit when it is still fresh: carefully pick it up with a piece of plastic or another non-pointed improvised object, remove the residue with a cloth soaked in solvent (again, after preliminary testing, since acetone can corrode the paint and leave whitish streaks).

  • When cleaning the door, it is necessary to avoid getting water on the foam in every possible way: the liquid will only fix it, accelerating the hardening process.
  • Acetone, which is effective against fresh foam, does not affect the frozen one at all - at best, you will lose time, and at worst, you can “seal” the mounting tool to the door leaf even more firmly.
  • Do not even try to use Dimexide in relation to the eco-veneer - this material is fibrous, and does not resist the destructive action of the drug's components. Cleaning should be purely mechanical, it is acceptable to use an abrasive in the face of ordinary soda.
  • Wooden doors are easily cleaned with fine sandpaper.
  • Mechanical doors that do not have a paint coating and spraying can be safely treated with solvents. They do the job in just 10-15 minutes.
  • If Iron door covered with powder paint, do not rush to experiment with "chemistry", but rather turn to vegetable oil. Any slightly warmed is suitable: apply on stains, leave until the foam softens. Next, work hard with a hard sponge and wash off the oil traces with soapy water. Attention! Wooden and veneered doors, as well as doors finished with MDF, this method will not work.

How to wash whitewash from a door

Compared to corrosive mounting foam whitewash looks completely harmless, but you have to work with it. Chalk adds worries, which is not able to dissolve in water - it simply “hangs” in it, which makes it much more difficult to wash off. Dried whitewash is removed in several steps:

- The main part is removed with sandpaper;

- Next, a washing solution comes into play - for starters, it's worth trying vinegar. Ordinary table vinegar is diluted in clean water at the rate of 20 ml per liter, after which, using a sponge or rag, the residual stains are soaked. With the same success, alcohol diluted in half is used: such a tool will not pose a threat even to sensitive varnishing.

Steel doors are perfectly laundered by kerosene, which is taken half as much for the same liter volume as vinegar. If you are embarrassed by a persistent pungent odor, you can use the already familiar vegetable oil: apply it on a wet surface (the affected door is rubbed with a sponge dipped in water), leave it to dry. Later, the oil traces are washed off with clean water, and the door leaf is wiped dry with a cloth.

  • Whenever possible, warm water should be used to prepare cleaning solutions.
  • Wash the soiled door in the direction from top to bottom.
  • The rinse water should be changed several times. Dry the cleaned areas immediately with a clean cloth.

What will wash the door from the glue

Adhesive traces from adhesive tape are well removed with a sponge moistened hot water. The most original method is to remove persistent sticky marks with fresh tape: a new piece of adhesive tape is glued right on top and sharply torn off so that it drags particles of old glue behind it. You will have to repeat the procedure for a long time and monotonously, so this method is exclusively for the patient.

There is a chance that the dried traces of masking tape will "capitulate" under the onslaught of a hair dryer. Direct a stream of hot air at them, and after a few minutes, when the glue softens a little, proceed to mechanical cleaning scraper.

Of the traditional approaches that are applicable to cleaning outer door, it is worth highlighting the following:

– Cleansing with a sponge soaked in medical alcohol or vodka. The method is safe for all materials, including MDF;

- if the problem is neglected, and the door is not veneered, you can resort to nail polish remover;

– on frosted doors, traces of adhesive tape can be perfectly cleaned with a melamine sponge. It is better not to experiment with varnished ones: melamine often manifests itself as a shine killer;

- and vegetable oil comes into play again: transfer it to the stained door leaf with a cotton pad or cloth, soak for ten minutes and rub the treated area diligently. Wash off traces with soapy water;

- Vaseline is used with the same success as oil. Just what you need for doors with delicate veneer finishes!

How to wash the door from greasy stains

Fat stains, as a rule, are removed without any extra effort. The easiest way to remove stains is with dishwashing gel or other detergent for cleaning - like Shumanit or Domestos. It is better not to resort to powder abrasives, acids and alkalis, and if the coating is varnished, then they are completely banned.

Of the other means of fighting for purity, the following are used:

Ammonia solution. It is required to dilute 1.5-2 teaspoons of ammonia in a glass of water. To wash painted wooden doors, the concentration is reduced - the same two teaspoons are already per liter.

Clay slurry. This tool is also intended for wooden canvases: the powder is diluted with vinegar, the resulting paste is transferred to oily prints and left to dry.

Solvent "White spirit". Only suitable for metal doors without finishing.

soap solution. Grate a piece laundry soap, the resulting chips dissolve in warm water. Lather the grease marks using a sponge; wash away big amount clean water and immediately wipe the door with a dry cloth.

pure alcohol. Perfectly washes MDF panels: fix the soaked cotton pad on the soiled place, leave for a quarter of an hour. Only a solution is applicable to the laminated canvas - 1 part of alcohol is diluted with 9 parts of water.

potato juice. Cut a potato tuber in half, rub greasy spots generously. After ten minutes, brush off the stubborn starch with a dry cloth. To remove whitish stains, rub the treated areas with baby powder.

soda gruel. Removes even the most stubborn stains and can be used to clean laminated doors if handled with care. Dilute the powder with mouthwash, immediately transfer the mass to the stain and wait a couple of minutes. Rinse the gruel with water and wipe the surface dry. If the door loses its shine, wipe it with vegetable oil.
