homemade game Storyteller designed for two players. Each of the participants in this game tries on the role of JRR Tolkien and must write The Hobbit before the opponent does.

Here is what he writes about the game

Attention! The photo shows the still unfinished design of the first version of the game. Now I have made a change - instead of 6 chips (pictured), we use 8. The design of the cards has become more functional - instead of one inscription at the bottom, two numbers have appeared - at the top and bottom - it’s more convenient to play. I will not print the second version of the design yet, because. the cardboard ran out at home, and the printer was already “tired” ...

Rules of the game "Storyteller"

We print 2 copies. Trim the edges. We glue both pairs with transparent adhesive tape in the middle, we get 2 fields.

Then, in the scaled print size parameter, set 45.59% of the original (height - 23.639 cm, width - 16.082 cm). This is my author's card size. Of course, you can experiment with scale. We print the cards1, cards2 files twice, and the cards3 file once. Rezhem.

We get 60 cards. 12 [sheet 1] + 12 [sheet 1] +12 [sheet 2] +12 [sheet 2] +12 [sheet 3].

How it all began…

One lovely summer day, Professor Tolkien fell asleep in his comfortable armchair. And he dreamed that his reflection in the mirror was trying to finish his story about the glorious hobbit and publish a book before him, the real one. The professor did not like the idea of the double and he decided by all means to write a book faster than his reflection! Forward, he told himself, to the table! Write! Write!

Purpose of the game

Each player believes that he is a real Tolkien. His task is to be faster than his opponent and write The Hobbit first. To do this, according to special rules, fill in all the cells of your playing field with playing cards.

Preparing for the game

We print. Rezhem. Each player is given 4 chips (no matter what colors, shapes and sizes) and one playing field - this is a plan for the future story. Each field consists of 19 game cells and one informative one - it does not participate in the game and only reminds you of the order of actions (about the phases of the move). Each player, having received 4 chips, puts them on different playing cells of the OPPOSITE field, not for himself. The dealer also gives out 6 cards to each player. The rest of the cards are stacked face down. We will call this stack - a stack of playing cards.

Game progress

They take turns. Who goes first is determined. Next, to make his turn, the first player must SEQUENTIALLY perform the following actions. First you need to take 1 card from the pile of playing cards (now he has 7 cards in his hand). Now he can use any card from his hand (any of the 7). If a player has cards in his hand that have the words "Give 1-2-3 Cards!" on them, he may (but does not have to) place one such card face up on the table in the place - let's call it - the discard pile of game cards. After that, he draws the number of cards indicated on the discarded card from his opponent's hand and adds them to his hand. There is one nuance - see point number 3 of the "Features of the game" section.

All other game cards besides the cards "Give 1-2-3 cards!" are manuscripts of a particular chapter of a fairy tale. These cards are labeled with the chapter number. After the player has carried out the withdrawal phase (and he could skip it) of cards from the opponent’s hand, he can put ANY manuscript card in his hand on the corresponding cell of his playing field, on which there is a chip (it was placed at the beginning of the game by your opponent). The number indicated on such a card must match the number of the chapter of a particular cell with a chip. Because on the entire playing field of one player there are 4 opponent's chips, the walker has 4 possible options placement of manuscript maps. If he has the appropriate cards (or 1 card), he chooses and puts ONE of them on the cell he needs with the same number and removes the chip from it on the table, the opponent must IMMEDIATELY put this chip on any other cell of the walker’s field that is not occupied other chips and not occupied by manuscript cards. Now the first player on the playing field again has 4 chips on the "empty" cells.

However, the walking player might not have the right card in his hand. Then he simply skips the phase of laying out cards on the field. After that, the move is considered completed.

So, the sequence of actions during the move is as follows - 1) take one card from the pile, 2) take away cards from the opponent, 3) lay out one manuscript card on the field. Actions 2 and 3 are optional - they are performed as far as possible and desired. In practice, it usually never occurs to anyone to skip these phases if they have the cards they need to play. After one player has performed the specified actions, the turn passes to another player. He does the exact same thing.

If you have few or no cards at all (the opponent has taken everything), then a move may be skipped. To do this, the player declares aloud "I skip the move!" and takes 3 cards from the stack of game cards, but now it is no longer possible to perform any actions in this turn. The turn passes to another player. That is, if you walk normally, you take one card at the beginning of your turn and can use it immediately, when you skip a turn, you take 3 cards and wait for your next move.

End of the game

As already noted, each player strives to cover all 19 cells of his playing field with manuscript cards faster than the opponent. The winner is the player who put the last card on the last free cell with a chip. The game then stops.

The winner is considered the real Tolkien, who was able to surpass the mirror double and curb his inner fears.

Game features

1. As soon as the pile of game cards on the table ends, and all discarded cards migrate to a single discard pile, this discard is shuffled, and the cards are again laid out in one pile face down in the middle of the table. Now this stack can be used as before, but with one caveat. Remember that now the entire pile consists of cards of the form "Give 1-2-3 cards!", so after the formation of a new pile of such cards, it is FORBIDDEN to skip the turn and take 3 cards from it. Each player draws only one card at the start of their turn and may use it when playing their turn.

2. As the cells are filled with manuscript cards, a situation is created when at first there is nowhere to put one chip, then 2, then 3 and, finally, 4 chips. In these situations, the chips are simply removed to the side.

3. You can not use cards "Give 1-2-3 cards!", Which can take away more cards from the opponent than he has in his hand. For example, if he has one card left in his hand, it can only be picked up with the “Give 1 card!” card, “Give 2 cards!” and "Give me 3 cards!" in this case cannot be used. Leave them with you, they will come in handy - you will select the right amount later.
