Holidays for students in the 2017 2018 academic year
During the 2017-2018 academic year, there will be fewer vacations at institutes, universities and other higher educational institutions, as students rest only in winter and summer. Each university appoints the exact vacation schedule for students depending on the dates of the sessions. Winter holidays for students begin at the end of January and end in mid-February. In the summer, student vacation dates also depend on the session and practice, which is often scheduled for June, which means that you can go on vacation only in July. Holidays are an unusually “tasty” and pleasant topic for discussion. Children (and parents too - to be honest!) are waiting for them almost from the first day of school. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to discuss what the school holidays will be like in the 2017-2018 academic year even in the midst of hot summer days.
All vacations of the 2017-2018 academic year will, as before, be regulated by the Ministry of Education. Rather, the Ministry of Education makes recommendations, and it is up to the school to follow them or not. As a rule, this issue is resolved at the beginning of the year at the School Council and fixed by order of the director. The choice largely depends on the internal routine of the educational institution, namely: in quarters or trimesters, there is training in one or another alma mater.

Holidays at school 2017-2018 academic year: autumn, winter, spring
Autumn holidays 2017 –from October 29 to November 6, 2017
For those who study in trimesters, autumn will give a short rest twice: from 2 to 8 October And from 13 to 19 November 2017.
New Year holidays we have in common: all schoolchildren have a rest for two weeks, regardless of whether they study in quarters or trimesters. December 31, 2017 to January 10, 2018 students will be completely free.
Additional holidays - February 18 - February 25 - are provided for students in grade 1, and in some cases for grades 2-4 in agreement with the governing bodies at the local level.
With modular training mode the school holidays schedule for 2017-2018 is somewhat different from the traditional one. Vacation periods:

November 5 – November 12, 2017

February 18 – February 25, 2018
April 8 – April 15, 2018
The end of the school year in the "traditional" school is scheduled for May, 23rd(or May 26 if there were additional holidays during the year)

How is the school holiday calendar formed?
So, if the school studies in quarters, the children rest 4 times a year:
Autumn: 9 days in last week October and the first week of November (including holidays)
In winter: the last days of December and 10 days in January - a total of 14 days.
Spring: last 7 days of March
Summer: three summer months
For first-graders and students of correctional classes, an additional winter week of vacation is provided.
If educational institution is engaged in trimesters, then the students will study for 5 weeks and rest for 1 week. With the exception of the New Year holidays - they are the same for everyone.
However, I repeat: the school has the right to adjust the rest time itself, therefore, vacation periods may vary in different cities and in different schools. Of course, if the school is private, then it decides this issue absolutely independently and has the right not to be guided by the recommendations of the Ministry of Education. The vacation time of such schools may differ significantly from public schools.

Reform in the definition of vacation time
The educational departments of Russia have been debating the topic of vacation time for several years now. Now Russian school in general (and Moscow in particular) have fairly broad rights in this matter. The educational department formulates recommendations, and the school administration, on the basis of this document, determines the dates of vacations planned for the autumn, spring, winter and summer periods. Today, several options for dividing the academic year are used in metropolitan schools:
- "Quarter" classics, when students have to study for four quarters, separated by small vacations in autumn, winter and spring, as well as long summer vacations;
- trimester structure - in this case, three periods of study are interspersed with vacation periods of a longer duration than in the case of a quarter approach;
- two-semester approach - similar to the university system, only without sessions and with long vacations between study periods. Most often, this is how the educational process is organized for 10-11-graders, because they need to have time to get the maximum knowledge and learn the program necessary for passing the final exams early. Kids, of course, are not able to study so intensively;
- modular educational process - in this case, the academic year is divided into five relatively equal parts with small vacancies between them.
Such a diverse approach to determining the structure of the academic year has been repeatedly criticized - adherents of Soviet practice have repeatedly proposed issuing centralized instructions to school administrations. The main argument is the fact that different dates holidays do not allow to plan normally numerous, creative competitions and other events held for schoolchildren.
Despite all the controversy, a unified vacation system for the Russian Federation has not been chosen Some of the students at this time have free time, while others have to go to events, looking up from their studies. Moscow schools even conducted a survey among parents to identify which of the structural approaches could satisfy the majority of families, but no clear leader was found. Looks like 2018/2019 will go on as usual.

- the beginning of studies will fall on 09/03/2018 (September 1 is Saturday, so on this day some schools can only schedule a solemn line).
- autumn holidays will be held in the interval from 10/29/2018 to 11/05/2018 inclusive, as the day off is postponed to Monday due to the 4th day - National Unity Day;
- The next study period will last from November 6, 2018 to December 28 (29), 2018. Perhaps, on December 29, schoolchildren will really have to study - all because the next Saturday will be appointed as the working day for December 31.
- 12/31/2018-12/10/2019 - recommended vacation dates, which can be extended until January 13 inclusive, because it is not advisable to go to class on a Friday;
- 02/02/2019-02/25/2019 - another small vacation period for primary school students. Additional rest on Monday arises due to the postponement of the Saturday celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day to the next working day;
- 03/01/2019-03/22/2019 - the educational process, which will end with spring vacations, tentatively falling on the period from 03/25/2019 to 04/31/2019;
- 04.05.2019-24(31).05.2019 - the last period of study under the quarter system, after which the summer holidays for schoolchildren will begin.
Holidays in 2019 according to the modular system
With a modular system, students get a break every 5-6 weeks Recall that such a schedule is usually represented by alternating 5 or 6 weeks of training, with 1 week of rest. Students will spend the year doing the following:
- 09/03/2018-10/05/2018 - the first training module. The time from 8 to 14 October 2018 is a rest period;

Trimester at school 2017-2018 is a relatively new form of organization of study time, rather unaccustomed to our children.

Unlike the usual one, with such a system, all the time of study is distributed evenly, that is, it is divided into equal parts, and the intervals between study and rest are almost the same. The key argument "for" the use of trimesters, according to experts, is that such an organization of the educational process helps to properly distribute the load on schoolchildren, without causing overwork even among elementary school students.

To date, the preliminary schedule of school holidays for trimesters for the 2017-2018 academic year is as follows: five (sometimes six) weeks of classes alternate with a week of rest.
- 1st trimester / autumn holidays - from October 7 to October 15, 2017 inclusive;
- 2nd trimester / autumn holidays Stage 2 - from November 18 to November 26, 2017 inclusive;
- 3rd trimester / winter holidays - from December 30, 2017 to January 9, 2018 inclusive;
- 4th trimester / winter holidays Stage 2 - from February 17 to February 25, 2018 (sometimes these holidays are called spring holidays);
- 5th trimester / spring break - from April 7 to April 15, 2018 inclusive;
- 6th trimester / summer vacation - from June 1 to August 31 inclusive.

As we see, in modern system training, each trimester ends with a short rest. However, when planning vacations for 2017-2018, it is worth remembering that rest time in schools with a trimester system of education practically does not coincide with vacations in a regular, quarterly system. The only exception was the traditional New Year holidays - the Ministry of Education recommends taking a day off the last week before and the first week after the New Year.
The situation is similar with long summer holidays - by order of the relevant department, absolutely all schoolchildren have a rest during this period, regardless of the education system.
Perhaps, by the 2018-2019 academic year, norms will already be introduced that control the organization of students' rest at uniform time intervals, which is already being actively discussed in the Government.
Possible changes
Those who plan holidays in advance should remember that the dates of the trimester holidays given in the article for the 2017-2018 academic year are approximate. The fact is that the Ministry of Education determines only the total duration of study time and rest time, plus gives recommendations on the start and end dates of vacations. For example, school holidays for students must necessarily begin at the beginning of the working week, that is, on Monday.
The school, however, retains the right to independently set vacation time - of course, within the framework of the recommendations of the ministry. So children of different schools have a rest and different regions at different times - somewhere the beginning of the holidays had to be "pushed" due to severe frosts or spring floods, somewhere, on the contrary, everything goes according to plan. So the exact, final dates for the start and end of the school holidays for the trimesters for the 2017-2018 academic year are determined by the school leadership. 
The Ministry of Education reserves the right for the educational institution to determine the form of organization of study time on its own, and the education system - quarterly or trimester - is prescribed in the Charter of each school. Thus, the government department gives the opportunity to the students themselves and their parents to choose how they prefer to study - with the distribution of the load by quarters or trimesters. The school administration and the parent committee can make changes to the educational process.
