Blog of Elena Iskhakova. Religious, nudist and urban beaches of tel aviv tel aviv beach mediterranean sea

The beaches of Tel Aviv begin to fill with vacationers from April. People who miss the sea and the sun are not afraid that the official season begins only when the rescuers start their work, that is, in May. Life on the embankment is seething until November, and by December the beaches freeze again in anticipation of the next influx of tourists and residents of the city. The coastal zone of the city is divided equally by the parking lot for yachts. The south side, popular with tourists, stretches all the way to Jaffa. Northern, with a pronounced national flavor, was chosen by locals and those visitors who are interested in the culture of the country. The beaches of Tel Aviv are famous for their well-thought-out infrastructure. All but the wild ones have free Wi-Fi, toilets, sun awnings, outdoor showers and changing cabins. The embankment is equipped with cycle paths and big amount bike rental points.

  1. Metzizim beach Not the largest, but very crowded beach opens the northern part of the promenade. The water here is so clear that in 2013 it was awarded the Blue Flag. The contingent is mostly family and youth and the percentage of tourists is very small. Nearby are the port and the farmer's market. Lots of shops and cafes.
  2. Nordau orthodox beach A harsh place, walled off from the world, with a strict visiting schedule. Women bathe on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays; men on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is not recommended to be here on Saturday. By the way, ladies who love topless sunbathing can come here on the days allotted to women if they are constrained by male society on other beaches. Local residents have nothing against such visits.
  3. Dog Beach As the name suggests, this is the only dog bathing beach in Tel Aviv.
  4. Hilton Gay Beach Representatives of gay minorities from all over the world gather on this beach. Which does not mean at all that it is closed to those who adhere to traditional views on relationships. If you don't care, you can safely swim and sunbathe.
  5. Beach for surfers Hilton Surf The best beach in the city for those who like to catch a wave. Professionals, beginners, and those who still dream of learning how to stand on the board gather here. For the last two categories, there is a club on the territory where you can always take a couple of lessons.
  6. Banana beach Also a favorite beach for surfers. In addition to them, fans of yoga, meditation and other bodily and spiritual practices flock here. Nearby is a cafe with the same name with a friendly atmosphere, and a little further, a ten-minute walk, the Carmel Market is in full swing. This island of local color will offer you everything from oriental sweets to quality leather shoes.
  7. Gordon Beach The first in a line of beaches on the southern tourist oriented side. This beach is of interest primarily to those who prefer leisure. Here you can play squash, throw a frisbee and leave a volleyball through a constantly stretched net.
  8. Twin beaches Bograshov and Frishman Neat and calm beaches, almost no different from one another. Both have clear water and a fully landscaped area. The nearby Ben Yehuda Street is filled with hospitable shops and cafes. The main contingent of these beaches are tourists, but the locals do not bypass them either. If you want to swim here, focus on the Dan Tel Aviv hotel. This building is painted in all the colors of the rainbow and attracts attention from afar.
  9. Yerushalaim Beach Another purely tourist beach, where there are very few locals. It is always noisy here, the audience gathers the most motley, so it is better for lovers of a quiet, relaxing holiday to look for another place. Located near Allenby Street. From here, it is easy to get to the center by minibus, which is very convenient on Shabbat, when most of the city transport does not work.
  10. Drum Beach Also known as "Drum Beach". In 2001, a nearby dolphinarium was blown up by terrorists. In memory of the tragedy, every Friday drummers gather here and have a party with dancing, jugglers and other diverse activities. The beach has a free and positive ethno-hippie atmosphere. Not suitable for swimming and measured respectable rest.
  11. Charles Clore beach Beaches after the dolphinarium cannot boast of comfort. You will not find any toilets, no sunshades, no sunbeds here. The audience here is unique: in the water you can meet dressed women, and on the nearby lawn people with barbecues. The beach parking is just huge, so it is convenient to drive here by car. The pluses include stunning views of Jaffa and the proximity of the oldest district in Tel Aviv, Neve Tzedek.
  12. Honey beach This area, located at the base of Jaffa, is a stretch to call a beach. There are no lifeguards, there are no even minimal amenities, and the purity of the water leaves much to be desired. It makes no sense to linger here, it is better to pass by and plunge into the colorful old city.

The beaches of Tel Aviv provide everything you need for good rest: clear sea, gentle sun, warm water and friendly people.

Banana Beach - quiet place for family holidays. There are no noisy companies or high-profile events here. The specifics of the beach also determine the provision of services - umbrellas, sun loungers, ping-pong tables. A rare case when the name of the beach comes from the name of a local cafe, and not vice versa, because Banana Beach is just a small cozy cafe where you can relax in the cool, have a drink and a bite to eat.

But the reason for the popularity of the place lies not only in a quiet environment and easy access to the beach - from Banana Beach you can see the rooftops of the ancient city of Jaffa. The landscape is especially beautiful at sunset, when ancient city, sea and sand are painted with crimson rays of the falling sun.

Ha Tsuk Beach

HaTzuk Beach is the best beach in all of Israel. It is located at the northern tip of the Tel Aviv coast, between Tel Baruch Beach and the beaches of Herzliya.

This is a crowded clean and well-groomed beach, loved by Israelis. There are not many tourists here, as this place is far from the tourist area and Tel Aviv hotels. You can swim here all year round.

On the beach you can rent umbrellas, sun loungers and equipment for water activities. Here you can have a picnic on a well-groomed lawn, sunbathe on the snow-white soft sand and visit several cafes located in the vicinity of the beach. Do not forget that the entrance to the beach is paid and costs $5.

Dromi beach

Free manners are characteristic of this Mediterranean beach in Israel. The name "the most shameless" has even stuck to it. This is because the ladies here sunbathe mostly topless and do not hesitate to wash off the salt under a fresh shower without a swimsuit. There are no doors in the locker rooms, and the representatives of the stronger sex picturesquely relieve themselves in front of everyone, on the edge of the cliff.

Otherwise, it is one of the popular sandy public beaches in Israel. Whole families like to relax here. And not just relax, but sunbathe and cook barbecue. There are many bars and restaurants, as well as all kinds of water activities. But all the pleasures, including sun loungers and umbrellas, are paid.

Bograshev beach

Bograshev is a small beach on the Mediterranean coastline, located in the center of the Tel Aviv promenade. Because there are a large number of hotels nearby, then most of the vacationers are tourists. IN summer time French becomes the second language after Hebrew.

On the beach there is a restaurant, sports and children's playgrounds. In the evenings, the beach is cleaned and the sand is cleaned. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available on site for the convenience of guests. Swimmers are monitored from a rescue station. Entrance to the beach is free, you only have to pay for parking if you got there by car.

Gordon Beach

Gordon Beach is a pleasant and clean beach, styled after the 60s and very similar to Hawaii. It is a favorite vacation spot for tourists and Israeli youth and is located opposite Gordon Street.

The beach attracts many tourists from nearby hotels. Beach volleyball and football tournaments are often held here and cheerful music is always played. There are many restaurants, bars and cafes in the beach area where you can relax in the evening listening to good music and enjoying exotic cocktails.

The beach is equipped with sports and play facilities, and all the necessary equipment for water activities can be rented here. Entrance to the beach is free, but if you come by car, you will have to pay for parking.

Frishman Beach

Frishman is a small, cozy beach, loved by both Israelis and tourists. The beach is located on the Mediterranean coastline, at the end of the street of the same name, opposite the American Embassy and the Dan Hotel. There is a buffet restaurant on site. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available here for the convenience of vacationers. Swimmers are monitored from a rescue station. In the evenings, the beach is cleaned and the sand is cleaned.

Frishman Beach is open daily and all year round. The entrance is free. It is convenient to get here by public transport, if you traveled by car, you will have to pay for its parking.

Jerusalem beach

Jerusalem Beach is popular with both local Israeli families and holidaymakers. It is located on the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, not far from the New Opera House. On the beach there is a cozy fish restaurant, a large playground, and a volleyball court.

Sun loungers and umbrellas are available here for the convenience of vacationers. Swimmers are monitored from a rescue station. In the evenings, the beach is cleaned and the sand is cleaned.

Jerusalem Beach is open daily and all year round. Entrance to the beach is free, you only have to pay for parking if you got here by car.

    Alma Beach in Tel Aviv

    Tel Aviv, Shlomo Lahat Promenade

Alma Beach is one of the most secluded in Tel Aviv and definitely one of the cutest. This is the last beach south of the city, just before the end of Tel Aviv and the beginning of Jaffa. Lying on the sand and enjoying the sun, you can simultaneously enjoy a beautiful view of Old Jaffa, its port and towers.

    Hilton Beach in Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv, Independence Park, Str. Hayarkon, 205

The Hilton Beach is located between the religious beach and Gordon Beach and got its name, logically, from the name of the hotel that stands nearby. This beach is extremely popular among various groups of Tel Aviv residents. Including, funny as it is... Dogs.

Most tourists who come to Israel for seaside holidays do not perceive Tel Aviv as a beach destination. Of course, when compared with Haifa or Eilat, the capital of Israel is not a very "beach" place. But at the same time, it is even surprising how good and diverse the beaches of this city are. So if for some reason you have to spend a long time in Tel Aviv, you can be sure that you can swim and fry in the sun here no worse than in many other places. And even better: the entire coastal (and rather big) part of the city is one sandy beach. At the same time, each separate part of it has its own color and features. And finally, the biggest bonus: with the exception of one and only, in Tel Aviv, all beaches are free.

That one paid beach is also the most extreme beach of the city, if you count from the north. This is the Ha-Tsuk beach, and paradoxically, local residents rest on it mainly. Tel Baruch Beach, which is already following Ha-Tzuk, is free of charge, and its infrastructure differs little from its neighbor: there are lifeguards, recreational lawns, a beach cafe, a playground, and catamaran rental. True, and here, for the most part, Israelis are still resting.

The entire coastal part of the city is one sandy beach. At the same time, each separate part of it has its own color and features.

The next beach, "Metsitzim", was once very popular and was called by the name of the hotel located here earlier - "Sheraton". Today, its popularity has somewhat declined, although in 2013 the beach received the Blue Flag. The beach next to it is the only one in the city intended for strict adherents of religious norms. There are separate days for men and women. On Saturdays, however, the beach is open to everyone, since believers do not go to the beach on Shabbat.

Further to the south, tourist beaches begin in full measure. They start from the Hilton Beach, which has three striking features. The first is the only beach in the city where you can come with dogs, and in its northern part, four-legged lovers actively use it. The second is the only gay beach in the city (not all, but only part of it). And the third is not the only, but the most popular beach of the city among surfers.

Behind the Hilton beach is a yacht marina, and behind it is the Gordon salt water pool. Behind the pool begins the beach of the same name, one of the best in the city. This is a beach for everyone, without a specific focus; it is clean and there is a lot of space, there is all possible basic infrastructure, including a playground, a bar and paid parking. Gordon Beach smoothly turns into Frishman Beach, which is also very revered by both tourists and locals.

Jerusalem Beach is located opposite the new Opera House (sometimes called it that). This beach is the second in Tel Aviv to receive the Blue Flag in 2013. Here, vacationers will find many opportunities for active pastime, including several volleyball courts, etc.

The southern beaches of Tel Aviv smoothly merge into the beaches of Jaffa. Among them stands out the beach of the dolphinarium, or the so-called beach of drummers. Every Friday in the summer, musicians, dancers and just young at heart flock here every Friday starting from the middle of the day, organizing a kind of open-air session. The atmosphere is the most free and friendly, and any tourist can be recommended to look here in the evening to enjoy the sunset to the sound of tom-toms.

Alma Beach (or Charles Clore Park Beach) is sandwiched between the sea and the green area of the park that separates it from the city. This is one of the most bohemian beaches in Tel Aviv - both because of the remote location and because of the presence of the Manta Ray restaurant here. The latter is one of the best not only in the city, but also in the country.

Mediterranean coast

  • Where to stay: in the north in Akko, in Russian

The dynamic, ever-bubbling and never-ceasing life of the second Israeli capital is known all over the world. University and business center, a combination of bright modernity and color of the past 20th century in the architecture of buildings, an abundance of gardens and green spaces on city streets, the delightful Joshua Gardens or Yarkon park, the famous Dizengoff street, boulevards, shopping complexes, a huge “package "All kinds of entertainment - all this is called the name" "", and translated from Hebrew - "Hill of Spring".

This city is constantly visited by pilgrims who profess different religions, because there are Jewish, Muslim and Christian places of worship. But the flow of secular tourists who inspect:

"White City", still keeping the spirit of the mid-30s of the previous century;

The historical part of the metropolis, reflected in the streets of Old Jaffa;

Galleries of contemporary art;

Skyscrapers, squares, cultural institutions.

Travelers can be found in museums, bars and nightclubs. However, the main resort town is, perhaps, its western half - a long beach area. The seaside strip is subdivided into separate beaches, most often named after the names of nearby streets or. Each beach area is provided with its own rescue service, complemented by cafeterias, many small food outlets, and opportunities for sports activities.

The geographically central Mediterranean settlement in Israel is called a holiday city, and, indeed, it is distinguished by a delightfully joyful atmosphere created by its entertainment venues, bright streets, wonderful all year round and the beaches of Tel Aviv, stretching along the coast in the direction from north to south.

Recreation area "Gordon-Frishman"

The American company Yahoo has included Frishman Beach, which lies on the street of the same name, in the list of the ten best urban beaches on Earth. "Gordon-Frishman" operates all months, seasons and days of the year. There is a revealingly clean, well-groomed and picturesque coast, comfortable sun loungers and deck chairs. Relaxing rest for visitors of advanced age, active leisure for young people (volleyball court for beachball, bike paths and so on), playgrounds for games - an exemplary beach gives everyone something to taste.

In the northern district of Frishman, vacationers can take treatments with healing salts. Pleasure yachts and small motor boats at the pier await customers who dream of sailing on the sea surface.

Already from 6 o'clock in the morning the beach is filled with guests - tourists from the nearby Dan Hotel, visitors who take vacations in areas adjacent to the coast, as well as the townspeople themselves.

Without a visible border, immediately after the described best urban beach "Gordon Frishman", the next recreation area begins - the territory of the beach "Bugrashov". Both beaches merge into a single comfortable zone, a favorite pastime for Tel Aviv residents and visitors.

Hilton Beach

This cozy and very calm beach area resembles a natural pool with an almost complete absence of waves. There are two lifeguard stations, everything is equipped for cloudless leisure, there are:

play facilities,

sports grounds,

Surfers club.

Transport, with special exceptions, is prohibited from entering the territory of the Hilton. Sun loungers and folding chairs are paid, they are issued by beach employees. The northern compartment of the site is the only resting place for dogs in the Tel Aviv-Yafo metropolis.

We note one "fad" that is useful for visitors to know. The fact is that Hilton beach was chosen for meetings by representatives of non-traditional sexual orientation, and most of the couples on this coast are male. This, however, does not prevent light boards of surfers from starting from here, and among the photos of the beaches of Tel Aviv and their inhabitants, made by inquisitive participants in Israel, the Hilton takes its rightful place.

Jerusalem Shore and Dolphin Shore

Tel Aviv's streets head towards the coast from the city's central districts and end in beaches at the water's edge.

Jerusalem beach

At the end of Allenby Street, which slopes perpendicularly to the sea, there is also a sandy area. The beach is called "Jerusalem" or "Allenby", it is located next to the New Opera. The beach strip here is wide, it accommodates gaming and sports facilities. Vacationers play team outdoor games, you can throw flying saucers and take time for others active species leisure.

For the beachgoers of Jerusalem, there is an excellent cafe-restaurant establishment, for those who wish, sunbeds and comfortable beach chairs are available for rent. There are parking lots for private cars near the beach, public transport stops are also very close. One of the tourist bus stops is also located in this quarter and collects travelers from all over the Middle Eastern country.

"Dolphin Beach"

Some time ago, a dolphinarium worked on the Tel Aviv coast, later it closed. At the end of 2000, a discotheque "Dolfi" was organized at this place (in another way it was called "Delphinarium"). In a short time of existence, the disco has gained great popularity among young people.

Unfortunately, six months after the opening, the institution gained notoriety: on that day, June 1, a quarter of an hour before midnight, waiting for the influx of visitors, a 22-year-old Arab terrorist blew himself up in the thick of youth and teenagers - right at the entrance to the disco building . A Palestinian suicide took the lives of 21 people, 120 children were injured, some of them permanently disabled.

Among the guests of the disco there were many students of the Shevah-Mofet school. A corner of one of the school floors was turned into a memory room, where memorial candles burned continuously for several years and portraits of the dead hung. Those who personally knew the dead wept as they walked past the mourning exhibition, and some simply could not bring themselves to face the monstrous reality again every day and preferred to move along the bypass corridors.

In honor of the old dolphinarium and the current "Delphinarium", the local beach was named "Dolphin Coast". Fans of dynamic entertainment rent surfing equipment at the water sports club, sometimes they take skiing lessons from professional surfers. People gather on rocky platforms to play music, dance, watch the sunset….

As a reminder of the tragedy of 2001, on this Tel Aviv beach, by decision of the mayor's office, a monument was erected with a list of 21 names carved on a light stone in Russian and Latin letters.

The youth night club "Dolfi" (now it has been renamed and received the name "Clara") has been working all the past years. At the end of June 2013, the Tel Aviv authorities accepted a project to demolish the club building. In its place will appear new park, which will merge with the green zone stretching along the southern part of the city along the embankment - Charles Clore Park.

Nordau beach

This strip of coast is divided into 2 sectors: the general beach "Metzitzim" and the specialized beach area "Nordau" for devout vacationers.

Beach "Metzim"

All conditions for a full-fledged family pastime are created here: sports grounds and children's play complexes, a cozy cafe, sunbeds and beach chairs. For the disabled, a paved entrance leading to the sheds is paved on the territory. The beach is open all year round.

The second name of this place is “Sheraton” (the hotel of the same name used to be nearby), but the most popular name is Metzizim, which is translated from Hebrew as “peeping”. That was the name of the cult Israeli comedy film of 1972, which tells just about this very beach.

Beach for religious visitors

This site "Nordau" is intended for vacationers who observe the traditions of Judaism. Within Tel Aviv, this is the only such place. The beach operates throughout the swimming season, and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only men spend their leisure time here, and on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays - exclusively women. Saturdays in Judaism are set aside only for prayers and spiritual enlightenment; it is not customary for believers to swim on this day.

Everything else is present on this beach, as usual: a buffet, a lot of entertainment for children, sports equipment, chairs and sunbeds (for rent) and other amenities.

There are more than a dozen beaches on the Tel Aviv Mediterranean coast, all of which provide their visitors with good conditions for rest and at least a temporary distraction from the everyday, sometimes difficult, even exhausting, work schedule.

Israel attracts not only lovers of antiquity and religious adherents. The country has a developed beach holiday industry, and, of course, the economic capital of the state cannot stay away from this. Therefore, we will go to the beaches of Tel Aviv.

Gordon Beach

Gordon Beach is located in the very center of the city's beach area - one of the most popular sports places on the entire coast. Located in front of the Sheraton Hotel, the beach is very recognizable, as it is the view most often decorated with guidebooks. It is also famous for the fact that you can find various sports equipment directly by the water. Among them there are playgrounds for playing beach volleyball and beach tennis.

Hilton Beach

Hilton Beach is located near the hotel of the same name. It has long been chosen by surfers. It is one of the best sandy beaches in Tel Aviv.

Hof Yerushalaim beach

This beach is famous for the fact that it has a special place for kitesurfing. The beach is loved by young people, as here you can work out on sports equipment. On weekend evenings, Latin American musicians give concerts here.

Unusual Nordow Beach

This beach is considered religious. There is a separate bathing regime on different days of the week. On some days, men gather here, on others, women. On Saturdays, the beach is visited by everyone.

Hof a Metzitzim Beach

Near the port is perhaps the most iconic beach in Tel Aviv - Hof ha-Metzitzim. The port itself is likewise a cultural center. All sorts of fairs work here, you can visit cafes and bars with a unique design. There is a unique atmosphere. In addition, it is also the shopping center of the city. Many shops sell branded products of well-known brands. Numerous tourists tend to the covered market a la Barcelona to buy the freshest products. Here you can try exclusive dishes from these products prepared by chefs of local eateries. At the choice of visitors - different cuisines: Oriental, Italian, French.

Alma beach

Tel Aviv's southernmost beach is Alma Beach. It's pretty quiet there as it's far from the center. The beach is located next to Jaffa - the oldest port city not only of Israel itself, but of the whole world. It was through the port in Jaffa that wood for the Temple of Solomon was delivered.

Banana Beach

The name of the beach comes from a pretty cafe built right on the shore. In the summer, 30-40-year-old residents of the city spend their weekends here with their children. There are practically no ubiquitous teenagers here, therefore it is not noisy here even on the most crowded days.
