Fashion trends of the 2000s and what has become of them now. Fashion trends of the 2000s and what happened to them now The history of the 2000s fashion and now

Fashion zero ruthless and merciless. Everything that seemed stylish to us some ten or fifteen years ago is now terrifying. Fashion is cyclical, but we really hope that this does not apply to the trends in this list and they will perish forever in the annals of history.

Bolero

Then: a cropped jacket, which for some reason was wildly popular.
Now: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A tan

Now: darkening of the skin, which is achieved by sitting in the sun.
Then: more self-tanning. It is desirable so much that the skin approaches color scheme to an orange.

Belt

Now: An accessory that keeps pants in place.
Then: just a huge accessory that the ladies wore over a sweater just below the chest and which did not carry any semantic load.

Now: a type of clothing designed for the upper body, designed to cover the torso.
Then: nipples are not visible? You can go.

Brows

Now: two sharply defined curving lines of hair above the eyes.
Then: two strings of nine hairs.

Tie

Now: a piece of colored cloth that men wear around their necks.
Then: for some reason a belt.

highlighting

Now: A coloring technique to achieve the effect of slightly sun-bleached hair.
Then: something like this will look like a zebra, which will turn into a man.

Sports suit

Now: Comfortable workout clothes.
Then: something plush and pink. In it it was possible both to a feast and to the world, as they say.

Pomade

Now: A cosmetic product that is applied to the lips.
Then: just cover your lips with foundation so that they merge with the skin of the face.

Jeans

Now: just denim pants.
Then: completely insane pants, preferably with a very low rise. The most chic - if you can also see the thong.

Shadows

Now: A natural shade cosmetic that highlights the eyes.
Then: purple, blue, and so to the very eyebrows.

The fashion of the beginning of the new century, the fashion of the zero, the fashion of the millennium can be briefly and succinctly described as ruthless glamour.
This is the time that we have already considered - the 80s, 90s and further to zero - a time of rapid change, a time of mixes, a time of constant change in fashionable images, a time when fashion ceased to be something developing slowly and logically, when one and the same style could last for decades, and the styles themselves ceased to smoothly flow from one to another. These thirty conditional years are like an explosion of a new star in the fashion world, a period after which fashion ceased to exist in the form in which it existed before for not only ten, but also centuries.

The beginning of the new millennium gave rise to a very interesting trend - girls stopped trying to keep up with fashion. Otherwise, the contents of the cabinets would have to be changed every year. Styles began to be mixed, dressing one on one like magazine or television models became uncomme il faut, fashionistas realized that they could endlessly experiment and be loose - and all this came out of the zero, about which we can say that they have a style as such and not was.

The fashionable zeros picked up the banner of protest against frames and traditions from the nineties, only glamor turned out to be the standard bearer here.
Remember, in our conversation about the fashion of the 80s, we even managed to identify four main directions in which fashion was developing back in those years. Later, the boundaries of styles and trends were erased, and now we can only talk about the most striking fashion signs of that time, and we will only talk about them like this - “Never wear this again!” And yet, why did glamor pick up the fashion banner in the millennium? Perhaps a significant role was played by the fact that pop music became a trendsetter.

The style of a playful schoolgirl, demonstrated by pop divas, was adopted by both real schoolgirls and those who graduated from school recently, a long time ago. The passion for sports that stretches from the 80s and 90s was not in vain. It has become fashionable to demonstrate flat tummies and slender legs. The bellies were shown with the help of short ... short everything - tops, vests, blouses, jackets and even fur coats. The tummy was emphasized (already regardless of its plane or bulge) with a piercing in the navel area. Everyone got naked and fast.

Slender legs and a flat tummy were designed to emphasize such memorable elements of the zero fashion as wide belts with huge buckles, heavy chains, which were also worn around the waist - either as a belt or attached to the belt of a skirt or trousers.
The skirts weren't much wider than the waist, and the trousers… Oh, they weren't just trousers. These were completely epic versions of jeans - cargo and breeches. Cargo - wide trousers with many patch pockets on the legs. They could be not only denim, but also camouflage colors. Which, by the way, also became popular in the noughties.

The most epic of all were jeans, remembering which even atheists raise their hands, wanting to overshadow themselves with a cross and say “holy, holy, holy, perish, evil spirit.” These are low waisted jeans. With a super low waist, so there is nowhere lower, only the plinth. And thongs were definitely sticking out from under him.

The glamor of the 2000s also showed itself in bright colors of clothes in the most incredible combination of them. Which is not surprising, because pop musicians and singers dress brightly and flashy, which means that the public needs it too. At the same time, a bright T-shirt with sequins could well be found in the same bow with trumpet jeans or sports trousers, and a short fur jacket could be worn on an airy summer dress. Borders were erased desperately and mercilessly.

Let us recall some more characteristic images of those years.
Velor or plush tracksuits in gouge-eye colors, which could be worn quite calmly both in a feast, and in the world, and in good people.
Denim total bow. Denim from head to toe, and nothing but denim.
Self-tanning. The maximum naked body had to be as tanned as possible.
Linen style. In those years, nightgowns were worn exclusively on red carpets.
Uggs. Shapeless sheepskin boots, so helping out Australian shepherds in cold winters, suddenly became the object of desire for fashionistas around the world. Having got what they wanted, they no longer parted with them at any time of the year and day. Another shoe fetish of the 2000s was shoes and boots with long, narrow toes.
Skinny long scarves, leopard print, fishnet tights and small dogs worn as fashion accessory.
Jeans and velor were not only pants. But also caps. And the caps are for women. They could also be suede.

Hairstyle and makeup. What do we see here? The shadows became bright and pearlescent, but the lips began to merge in color with the skin of the face. The eyebrows arched in a thin arc, making their owners eternally surprised, and the hair was highlighted not in order to give the hair a shade, but so that even a zebra would envy such a striped hairstyle.
Now you can giggle and make fun of it, and think - oh my God, how could we be like that?
But this explosion of bad taste was needed in order for us to stop feeling the power of fashion over ourselves and to understand that now we own it. The fashionable zeros were again replaced by the ability to dress beautifully, and with it elegance, soft outrageousness, self-irony and restrained permissiveness.

WE FOLLOW for new trends, but many of them raise a lot of questions: how livable is this? How and with what to wear crop tops, hairy sneakers, plush jackets and transparent everything? This fall, designers returned to the 2000s and brought models to the catwalk in tracksuits, ultra-low-rise trousers and fancy denim. We tell you how to apply these trends to office and everyday wardrobe.

Luxurious tracksuit

Tracksuits were worn in the 90s and 2000s, but it was in the last decade that the pages of fashion magazines were flooded with sweatpants and hoodies made of velor and velvet - the sport has never been as close to luxury as in 2005. It's easy to recreate a typical Juicy Couture look without going overboard: opt for calm colors and replace stilettos with comfortable sneakers. Elastic bands with rhinestones, bright earrings and bandanas are welcome.

Golden total bow

The 2000s became an era of flashy luxury and kitsch, when it was hardly possible to embarrass anyone with a golden total bow. Today, neat silhouettes and accessories in the spirit of the times, such as massive earrings and a velvet turban, will help to reduce the degree of pomposity - be luxurious.

Corset lacing
and a strip

You only need to think back to the early clips of Fergie or the “Lady Marmalade” video for the film “Moulin Rouge!” to imagine what a classic party outfit of that time looked like. Things with corset lacing on patent or matte leather, and today many people decide to wear them only in the evening. However, together with a striped top, over the knee boots with a small heel and an asymmetrical jacket, you will get a great option for walking or meeting with friends.

Leopard print
and fuchsia

Fuchsia flashed in all summer collections, and we suggest not to forget about it in the cold season: few colors are so refreshing and uplifting. A common technique from the late 2000s is a leopard coat, a tight-fitting electric pink dress and high-heeled shoes.

Faux fur in 2017 looks no worse than the real one, and a suitable dress can be found in any mass market. Corset slimming models are not in use today, so it is better to find a replacement for them with a free cut with an emphasis on the shoulders - colored over the knee boots and narrow sunglasses will fit perfectly into this look.

Animal print

It seems designers have never been as obsessed with animal print as they were in the 2000s. A leopard dress combined with a leopard coat and over the knee boots to match in those years would not embarrass anyone.

In 2017, we suggest abandoning verbatim quotes, but we don’t recommend forgetting about the pattern either. A delicate solution was found at Comme des Garçons - the "leopard" has never looked so modest. Neat print accessories also look great: scarves, mini bags or faux fur mittens.

Denim total bow

Denim, denim and more denim - this is the main motto of the 2000s. Seventeen years later, Marques'Almeida and Topshop are famous for everything denim, which manages to sew tops, bustiers, dresses and even underwear from this material. To replicate a total denim look, start with a triple combo of denim, top, and light-colored flares. This look is best complemented by ankle boots made of suede or with neat embroidery, as well as a sandy trench coat or a laconic woolen coat.

Black mini

Minimalism in the zero eclipsed bright colors and torn denim, but the combination of a black miniskirt, a fitted jacket and noticeable accessories like hoop earrings or logo belts flashed regularly in fashion shoots. As a top, you can choose a regular bra - a typical technique from the 2000s - which, in combination with a tightly buttoned jacket, leaves almost no hint of eroticism. Today, this image still looks fresh.

Sweater with lurex
and fancy denim

Mom will surely support this image - she definitely has your teenage photos in similar outfits. Fashion moves in waves, and by 2017, fantasy denim, through the efforts of Marques'Almeida and Gucci, has regained popularity. Add some lurex and fur to it, and a cozy look for home winter parties is ready.

The Russian fashion of the "zero" in many respects continued the traditions of the previous decade. Everything foreign was in the trend, the conditions and rules of the “fashion game” were dictated by pop culture. Keeping up with the changing trends was simply unrealistic. However, some general rules nevertheless they were.

The trendsetters of that period of time were such young American stars as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez. From their light hand the image of a young nymphet girl came into fashion. A craze began for short “school” skirts, low-rise trousers and jeans, crop tops. Opening the legs, stomach, chest has become a must. Even voluminous knitted sweaters have become unrealistically small in length and turned into something similar to a crop top. Also, fur items appeared in the wardrobes of fashionistas, which were combined with light summer dresses. The neon colors of the outfits continued this "ball" of bad taste and anti-style.

Besides the fact that the clothes were short and bright colors, they were also completely tight. Sexy skirts and tank tops let you see all the curves female body. Real propaganda of "pornism".

In the same period of time, sports and androgynous styles began to be popularized. Russia is no exception to the rule. Girls and boys began to wear oversized jeans, shirts, stretched sweaters, leather jackets, heavy boots. Men's and women's fashion leveled out, merged into something in common called "unisex".

Capri pants were incredibly popular. They came into fashion around 2003, and at first their purpose was purely sporty, but then designers began to create these things with a touch of romanticism.

Romanticism came into fashion in 2006 and was marked by the mass love of all Russian women for tunics. Which perfectly hid the flaws of the figure. The younger and more advanced paired them with jeans, cowboy boots and hats. Also, at the peak of romanticism, high-waisted dresses, which are still popular today, and floral print outerwear began to appear on the shelves.

I must say that the Russian fashion of the 2000s has grown together with European and American fashion thanks to the mass media. TV and the Internet actively promoted Western style. The Russian people had only to imitate, although this imitation was limited by the financial capabilities of many millions of citizens.

Style icons, so to speak, at that time were such “socialites” as Ksenia Sobchak, Masha Malinovskaya, Oksana Robsky, Masha Tsigal and others. Their style, or rather the lack of it, was replicated in the press and perceived by many ordinary people as a kind of norm that should be copied.

It can be stated with certainty that fashion in Russia during this period did not exist at all. There was a shocking mixture of styles in the face of a lack of quality products and, first of all, fabrics, as well as in the absence of domestic, original designers. During this period, a mass exodus of young people began to go abroad. They brought from there what they could afford to buy with the relatively little money they had. So the first Valentino, Lagerfeld, Mustang, Fendi, Emanuel, Ungaro appeared on the Russian streets. The youth experimented and gave birth to new trends, such as crosses with feminine long maxi skirts. Also during this period, second-hand stores were in trend, where you could find a very cheap, but designer item from old collections.

A little later, mass-market stores appeared in Russia, such as Topshop, Zara, Primark. There was an opportunity to dress stylishly, fashionably and relatively inexpensively.

This is a period of design and stylistic experimentation that has led to a modern, very restrained style.

The only successful trend of this period can be considered flared jeans, which are still popular in Russia today. They sat perfectly on good female figures (and not very good ones also looked good). Although by the end of the decade one could already observe the predominance of minimalism and constructivism, white, gray and black colors in clothes. At the same time, they began to pay attention again to the quality of the fabric and cut.

With all the above criticism, the fashion for the "zero" returns and this is noticeable throughout. By the way stars and young girls dress, by what fashion houses and designers offer. This "comeback" is connected, first of all, with the fact that the fashion of the 2000s was not imposed by someone, it came "from the people", strengthened and became popular. And let nouveau-rish-chic, porno-chic, grunge, R'n'B style not return completely, but some of their elements will survive a rebirth and adapt to new realities. And this applies not only to clothes. Now long, often false nails, corrugated curls, small pigtails, bright makeup, jewelry are in fashion again. Look at how Adele, Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Bianca or Nyusha dress up. Leopard is back in fashion, and fishnet tights. Fashion is cyclical, it comes and goes, giving rise to trends that, unlike fashion, remain forever.

Talking about the fashion of the 2000s is not at all as easy as talking about the fashion of the decades of the last century. If earlier one fashionable style could hold on for many years, then at the beginning of this millennium, girls gave up trying to keep up with fashion. To do this, it was necessary to change the entire contents of the cabinets literally every year.

Fashion has really become a very changeable young lady, whose mood has changed dramatically. But there were still general trends, let's try to remember them.

The millennium began with the fashion that pop singers brought to the masses. Both young girls and adult ladies tried to repeat the style of a playful schoolgirl. Short pieces that showed off a flat tummy and perfect legs were in favor.

The beginning of the 2000s was remembered for the abundance of naked bodies - everyone was naked and did it quickly. Even knitted sweaters were normal to create and wear in the most extreme short version.

After that, bright colors came into fashion, which became logical - and very tasteless! - a continuation of the trend for short things. Mandatory presence of fur items in the wardrobe, which were combined with light, short dresses.

And then came the sporty style. Wide jeans, voluminous T-shirts and sweatshirts, sports dresses and overalls. Sweatpants were mixed with sequined crop tops, creating an unimaginable cocktail that was not always pleasant to see. But the 2000s were a time of discovery, the years when fashionistas realized that it was possible to be free in terms of style - and experiment endlessly.

These experiments were not always successful. The only trend of the beginning of the millennium that has survived to this day was flared jeans, which saved many disproportionate figures. Until now, many fashion houses offer their fans trousers and jeans of this type.

As such, there was no style of the 2000s. But experiments with poor fabrics, bright and flashy tones and a mixture of incompatible styles only led to what we have now - to the tenth years, which will be remembered for elegance, permissiveness, which, at the same time, leaves fashionistas restrained, soft outrageous and ... the ability to dress beautifully . As in the tenth years of the last century, fashionistas are beginning to appreciate the fabric and texture, and not the ability to surprise. And the 2000s were an excellent springboard for such a takeoff ...
