To make a layout, the author recommends using cardboard, then the resulting layout elements are transferred to the material from which the belt protection will be made, the side parts are recommended to be made of thin metal, as it bends well and will allow you to bend desired shape, and the back wall is made of plywood with a thickness of 0.8 mm, and if desired, put tin on top. The part has a simple design, so the author posted a photo of the finished part.

This photo shows inner part details, the cut in the corner turned out to be erroneous, and was later corrected with a triangular brass insert.

In the process of measuring the part at the installation site, the author came to the conclusion that it was necessary to make a cutout for the generator pulley in place; for this, a circle with a diameter of 65 mm was cut out of cardboard, which must be applied to the marked place, draw a contour and cut it out with a grinder.

Then a bracket was modeled from cardboard, which was made of metal 2.5 mm thick. In order for the gaps between the casing and the generator belt to be the same, you need to lay a wooden block 10 millimeters thick. By the same principle, the second bracket should be made.

After everything is ready, the outer part of the part must be painted, and the brackets should be polished or also painted. The paint should be applied in two or three layers, and after the paint has completely dried, using M3 bolts and self-locking nuts, the brackets are screwed to the casing body.

Important: The thread must be on the outside, and cut flush with the nuts.
It is desirable to stick on the ends rubber compressor, and then install the finished part on the car, as you can see in the photo, the made protection not only prevents the belt from spreading dirt around the engine compartment, but also prevents moisture from getting to the spraying point.

I'm tired of when it's raining, the space under the hood is always dirty because water from under the right front wheel gets on the crankshaft and alternator belt, and from there it flies in all directions. For a couple of days I was brainstorming how to stop it. On Priora, this is easier - they have a ready-made duster that you can buy. But I don't need an easy way 🙂

Impressions during manufacturing - it seemed to me that the protection, despite the simplicity of the design, was more difficult to make (compared to the cabin filter adapter) due to the fact that there were no drawings and I had to reinvent the wheel, repeatedly trying on parts as they were made. What I did, see below.

To preempt some questions, I explain the following:

Everything works quietly, does not hang out and does not make noise;
- you can check the belt tension by sticking your hand next to the right wheel, it does not require much work;
- you don't need to remove the protection to adjust the belt;
- homemade is very easy to install;
- To install it, you need to remove the timing cover.
- Design to weigh a little.

This design is an experiment, so it can and should be modified by anyone who wants to.

It happens even worse.

I have engine protection, to the right are aluminum sheet shields for protection. They worked poorly, I did not notice much of a difference.

Taking advantage of the moment, I washed the engine with a high-pressure washer, especially since it had not been washed for 7 years. It’s more pleasant to poke around in a clean engine. By the way, there is nothing wrong with that, after washing I left it with the hood open in the sun for 2-2.5 hours. Then everything started up, and most importantly, it went))).

... and we start to get smarter. For the layout, I took cardboard.

I transferred the cardboard casing to the metal, cut it out and bent it. I made the protection wall without a layout, the detail is simple, so the finished result is shown right away. Mounts - M3 bolts.

And this is the inside view. The cut in the corner is a jamb in progress. Subsequently, a triangular brass insert was inserted into the cut and properly soldered.

In the process of measurements, I came to the conclusion that it is necessary to make a cutout in place for the generator pulley. I took a circle of cardboard with a diameter of 65 mm, attached it, outlined it and sawed it out with a grinder with an almost ground off circle - it turned out to be very convenient.

Then I modeled a bracket from a strip of cardboard, and made a 2.5 mm strip from a strip. When fitting the brackets on the alternator belt, I put a flat wooden lath approximately 10 mm thick in order to maintain the same gap between the casing and the belt itself. Then, using a strip of cardboard, I estimated the shape and length of the second bracket.

Then I took it apart and applied the first coat of paint. The surface of the brackets was polished, on the other hand painted.

Painted again, and assembled on the M3 bolts. Outside, the threads of the bolts are ground off flush with the nuts, and the whole thing is polished.

I glued the E-shaped seal left from the cabin filter adapter.
